  hey i have problem with JDialogForm. I have created it using netbeans 6.8. • Bring another processes Window to foreground when it has ShowInTaskbar = false

  We only want one instance of our app running at any one time. So on start up it looks to see if the app is running and if it is, it calls SetForegroundWindow on the Main Window. This is all good and well ... for the most part.. When our app starts up it will show a Splash screen and a Logon form. Both of these forms have ShowInTaskBar = false. Because of this, if you try to start up another copy of the app when the Logon form is showing, that Logon form is not brought to the front! Especially as the user cant see anything in the taskbar as well, all they figure is that the app is duff and cannot start. There is no indication that there is another instance running. Is there any way around this problem?

• How to install the program depending on libstdc++ library

  My program is written in C++, using GCC on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit. If depends on /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 which actually points to /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6.0.13. Now I copy this program to virgin Ubuntu 7.04 system and try to run it. It doesn't run, as expected. Then I add to the program directory the following files: libstdc++.so.6.0.13 libstdc++.so.6 (links to libstdc++.so.6.0.13) and execute command: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./myprogram Now everything is OK. The question: how can I write installation script for such program? myprogram file itself should be placed to /usr/local/bin. What can I do with dependencies? For example, on destination computer, /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 link points to /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6.0.8. What can I do with this? Note: the program is closed-source, I cannot provide source code and makefile.

• Hashbytes comparison in stored proceduring not matching record

  The password field in my user table (SQL Server 2008) is encrypted using HASHBYTES on insertion. I have a stored procedure with parameters for the username and plain-text password which does a SELECT using that username and the password sent through HASHBYTES, then returns the user record if it finds a match. The SP is always returning an empty recordset, but if I copy and paste just the SELECT from the SP to a new query window, it returns the matched record. There're no other statements in the SP. I'm missing something here; what is it?

• C++ - Access array (in main) from methods outside main

  I have an array in my main class that holds objects that I need to print out for a menu listing. The array is declared and initialized in main. I need to, however, access the same array in a sub-menu function. If I copy the code (for loop that prints out the values) to the sub-menu, nothing is printed (presumably because it can't access the original array and has made a new, blank one). Is there any way (without making the array a global variable) that I can access the array in this sub-menu? Both the main and the sub-menu function are in the same file and the sub-menu is called from main. Maybe to put it more simply, can I use scope resolution to bring me up one 'level' in scope?

• Git - will the file moves be detected?

  I performed some modifications on a branch (A). I then decided to create a brand new branch (B) based on the state of my existing working copy and commit and push to that. There were a number of files that had been moved during my earlier refactoring, and hence were now not included in version control having been moved directly in the filesystem. By accident I did not add these files to git before committing and pushing to the new branch (B). If I now add these files and commit and push, will Git be able to detect the file move operations?

• scrolling a readonly cell in NSTableview?

  I have a table that the user should not be able to edit directly (although user actions may cause changes). One column may contain a string too long for any reasonable size cell, so to see everything there, the user needs to scroll the cell (using arrow keys, for example). If I make either the column or cell not editible, I loose the ability to scroll the cell. If I make it editable, of course, I loose the ability to keep the user from changeing it. (I'm using NSArray controller and a couple of NSObject controllers to get from the model to the table view using bindings. Binding compliance via @property(copy) and @synthesize. • sharpziplib - can you add a file without it copying the entire zip first?

  Im trying to add an existing file to a .zip file using sharpziplib - problem is, the zip file is 1GB in size. When i try to add 1 small file (400k) sharpziplib creates a copy/temp of the orig zip file before adding the new file - this poses a problem when the amount of free disk space is less than 2x the zip file you are trying to update. for example: 1GB zip myfile.zip 1GB zip myfile.zip.tmp.293 ZipFile zf = new ZipFile(path); zf.BeginUpdate(); zf.Add(file); // Adding a 400k file here causes a 1GB temp file to be created zf.EndUpdate(); zf.Close(); Is there a more efficient way to do this? • Are there any good books on writing commercial quality software?

  Hey, My background has been generally new technology demonstrators, which, well... demonstrate the latest technology and how it can be of use to a clients company. They use it for internal demos etc. Now my career has shiffed course a bit more into actual products, in particular software which runs in locations like museums as interactive pieces. Clearly, although the technology demonstrators had to be well coded etc, there wasn't as much emphasis as there is on my current work, which has to work, be highly configurable, probably multi-ligual and run constantly, without restarts. So my question is, now that I'm trying to up my coding quality and write more commercial applications, are there any books which discuss issues surrounding high quality commercial software? I currently have a copy of Code Complete 2nd Edition, which is excellent, but just wondering if there's any better, possibly more focused titles out there? Thanks a lot! Andy.

  Hi all, Consider this dot language code: digraph graphname { subgraph clusterA { node [shape=plaintext,style=filled]; 1 -> 2 [arrowhead=normal,arrowtail=dot]; 2 -> 3 -> X2 -> 5; 6; 7; label = "A"; color=blue } } In the above example, only the 1 -> 2 connection will have the arrowhead=normal,arrowtail=dot style applied; all the other arrows will be of the "default" style. My question is - how do I set the arrow style (for the entire subgraph - or for the entire graph), without having to copy paste "[arrowhead=normal,arrowtail=dot];" next to each edge connection? • Tomcat startup fails with not a valid identifier

  I have tomcat 6.0.18 running on one server without a problem. With the exact same settings it fails to launch on my colleague's machine. He's even running from the same folder as me (I've stopped my copy while he tries to make it work) All we get when we fire off tomcat using bin/startup.sh is this: CATALINA_OPTS=-server -Xms768m -XX:+UseParallelGC -Xmx768m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:PermSize=128m -Djava.awt.headless=true: is not an identifier I had that definition in setenv.sh and moved it into startup.sh - same problem. Any suggestions? My brief look on google seem to indicate multiple IP address issues, but my server has two ethernet cards, and two IP addresses. Thanks.

I get this error and it's not making much sense. The type arguments for method 'System.Linq.Queryable.Contains(System.Linq.IQueryable, TSource)' cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly.

• Maven best practice for generating artifacts for multiple environments [prod, test, dev] with CI/Hud

  I have a project that need to be deployed into multiple environments (prod, test, dev). The main differences mainly consist in configuration properties/files. My idea was to use profiles and overlays to copy/configure the specialized output. But I'm stuck into if I have to generate multiple artifacts with specialized classifiers (ex: "my-app-1.0-prod.zip/jar", "my-app-1.0-dev.zip/jar") or should I create multiple projects, one project for every environment ?! Should I use maven-assembly-plugin to generate multiple artifacts for every environment ? Anyway, I'll need to generate all them at once so it seams that the profiles does not fit ... still puzzled :( Any hints/examples/links will be more than welcomed. As a side issue, I'm also wondering how to achieve this in a CI Hudson/Bamboo to generate and deploy these generated artifacts for all the environments, to their proper servers (ex: using SCP Hudson plugin) ?

• A peculiar problem

  I have an application on a pen drive, which executes some flash files on the same USB flash drive. when i run the application with in the drive, the application just keeps running in the back ground without running the flash files. When i copy the application on desktop, it runs the flash files in the USB. Also i programmed the app to write log file, when i run the application with in USB, the app is running but the log file is not getting written, when i remove the pen drive, the file gets written. What might be the problem, I am using VC++ , VS 2008 to build the application.

I want to copy 'Message' from 'Parent Category' to child categories. CategoryID Name Value Message ParentID DeptId 1 Books 9 Specials 1 2 Music 7 1 3 Paperback 25 1 1 4 PDFs 26 1 2 5 CDs 35 2 1 If that was sample data, Paperback should have Specials as it's Message after the query is run. I have gotten the child rows (the query runs very slow, don't know why), but how do I get the data and assign it to appropriate child rows? --@DeptId = 1 select * from Categories where ParentID in( select CategoryID from Categories where DeptID = @DeptId ) I would like to see a solution that would not use cursors. • Is it possible to set a parameterized build or pass an environment variable via a hudson build trigger?

  I'd like to use hudson to trigger a "promotion" of a build. The build would be a simple script that just copies a release candidate installer file from one location to another. (development dir to release/stable dir) Our build server is not on the public internet, but I want to be able to send an email or a text message or an IM with the build number to hudson, which will parse the build number and then do the copy/move. In looking at the jabber/IM plugin it does not look like this is possible (the parameter part) Has anyone solved this in some way? Should I use some other mechanism? I would prefer not to have to do the manual steps each time (SCP/FTP, etc) - I just want any QA team member to be able to trigger the build server to do the promotion.

• app.config - where should it go?

  This is a follow on from here: Storing database settings outside app.config So I know it's possible to have one app.config, with different sections externalised, all with different values. But are they like the web.config files in asp.net projects where you can just copy it into the same folder as the rest of the files and it will work, or do I need to compile it in somewhere. Also, won't it be overwritten by the .exe.config file? Edit Ok, so I worded this question a bit badly. I've updated it.

• Object pointer value as key into dictionary

  I want to use the object's reference value as a key into a dictionary, as opposed to a copy of value of the object. So, I essentially want to store an object associated with a particular instance of another object in a dictionary and retrieve that value later. Is this possible? Is it completely against the idea of NSDictionary? I can tell that I am probably approaching this the wrong way because the dictionary wants me to implement NSCopying on the object itself, which doesn't really make sense in terms of what I'm doing. I can see that what I should really be doing is wrapping the pointer value, but that seems a little mad. Advice would be appreciated.

• jQuery UI: moving items from one list to another

  While this should be relatively straightforward, I can't figure out how to move (rather than copy) LI elements between ULs. All I want is to drag any item from list foo to list bar (or vice versa) without duplicating the element. While connectToSortable does almost exactly what I want (though I'd prefer to avoid sortable), it clones the element - and manually removing the original element by reacting to the stop event turns out to be not so easy (e.g. ensuring that a valid drop actually happened). A simple "hello world" example would help me greatly.

• Portfolio problem on a flash template

  Hi guys! I have another question about the same template as before. in my website. (www.nikstudio.cl) I need to show in the webpage's portfolio (menu "trabajos") show a few pictures. If you click the thumbnail picture you can see the full size version of that thumbnail. My problem are two: First the picture one and two are the same as five a six ( and i can't change it cause i don't find the place to do this.) And the second is when I copy and paste (in a new layer) of the movieclip "sprite 656" i get in the swf a new picture on the portfolio but i can't click it. • Changing Clickonce source folder

  We copy our production build in a separate folder using post-build events, and replace the app.config file with our production app.config. However Clickonce reads the files in bin\Release folder. I have also tried copying all files from our custom build location to bin\Release folder in the post-build event, but app.config is still overridden (I guess clickonce re-builds the project into bin\Release). Is it possible to tell Clickonce to read from our custom folder? Or, if that's not the right way to go, how do you handle this kind of situation?

  I'm working on a thread-safe collection that uses Dictionary as a backing store. In C# you can do the following: private IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<K, V>> Enumerate() { if (_synchronize) { lock (_locker) { foreach (var entry in _dict) yield return entry; } } else { foreach (var entry in _dict) yield return entry; } } The only way I've found to do this in F# is using Monitor, e.g.: let enumerate() = if synchronize then seq { System.Threading.Monitor.Enter(locker) try for entry in dict -> entry finally System.Threading.Monitor.Exit(locker) } else seq { for entry in dict -> entry } Can this be done using the lock function? Or, is there a better way to do this in general? I don't think returning a copy of the collection for iteration will work because I need absolute synchronization.
