• efficiently trimming postgresql tables

  I have about 10 tables with over 2 million records and one with 30 million. I would like to efficiently remove older data from each of these tables. My general algorithm is: create a temp table for each large table and populate it with newer data truncate the original tables copy tmp data back to original tables using: "insert into originaltable (select * from tmp_table)" However, the last step of copying the data back is taking longer than I'd like. I thought about deleting the original tables and making the temp tables "permanent", but I lose constraint/foreign key info. If I delete from the tables directly, it takes much longer. Given that I need to preserve all foreign keys and constraints, are there any faster ways of removing the older data? Thanks.

• Capistrano update causes C: to be placed in the current directory (cygwin)

  When I run cap deploy:update in a directory on my local machine (via cygwin), "C:" magically appears in the directory. Sure enough, I can cd to it and it's my windows C: drive. Now I'm afraid to delete it, but I definitely don't want it in this directory (a rails project under /home/username/blah/blah). • Click-Once deployment is leaving multiple versions (yes, more than 2)

  I've got a click once application that is leaving all old versions on my disk. It's an internal corporate application that gets frequent updates, so this is a disaster for rapidly inflating our backup size. According to the docs and other SO questions, it is supposed to only leave the current and previous versions on disk. However, each time I deploy the project and upgrade a client, I get another copy of all exe/dll/data files. I'm making no changes whatsoever to the application, just pushing deploy again in Visual Studio. Any ideas? Updates: The problem seems to happen on both Windows 7 and XP. 64 bit windows and 32. I've done a diff of the folders where the version is installed and the following files are different: MyApp.exe.manifest MyApp.exe.cdf-ms MyDll1.cdf-ms MyDll2.cdf-ms No actual executable files are different, nor the MyApp.manifest, MyDll1.manifest, etc.

  I have made a Java Swing Desktop application in Netbeans which can play media files I have put the videos in my workspace resources location and in my java program I am calling those media files using an URL which is something like this: C:/users/Dell/My Documents /NetBeansProjects/Media/src/resources/ MediaFiles/ddd.mpg This works well when I run in my IDE and also i have made Jar for this it works well on my computer but the problem is when i copy this jar file on my friends system the interface is coming but when I click a button to play a media file it says: C:/users/Dell/MyDocuments/NetBeansProjects/Media/src/resources/ MediaFiles/ddd.mpg does not exist So, please provide me a solution of how to set the default path so that when I run a jar file on other systems it should play the media file location I am passing as in my program. How to set the path for the location of media files in program? Update The videos are in the jar file.

  The short version: is there a way to to write an "and" clause in a batch file? The slightly longer version: I've inherited a Visual Studio project that creates a dll and then copies that dll to another location. As a post build step, VS runs the following script. if not '$(ConfigurationName)' == 'DebugNoSvc' goto end xcopy /Y $(TargetDir)*.config $(ProjectDir)..\myService\bin\Debug xcopy /Y $(TargetDir)*.config $(ProjectDir)..\myService\bin\DebugNoSvc :end It looks like there's a problem when the project is compiled as Debug, since it doesn't do the copy (I'm guessing that at some point the middle section got updated, but the if clause didn't.) Is there an easy way to an "and" clause in batch?

• Is it possible to optimize maven dependencies automatically?

  I am working on a big project that consists of about 40 sub-projects with very not optimized dependencies. There are declared dependencies that are not in use as well as used but undeclared dependencies. The second case is possible when dependency is added via other dependency. I want to remove redundant and add required dependencies. I ran mvn dependency:analyze and got a long list of warnings I have to fix now. I wonder whether there is maven plugin or any other utility that can update my pom.xml files automatically. I tried to do it manually but it takes a lot of time. It seems it will take a couple of days of copy/paste to complete the task. In worse case I can write such script myself but probably ready stuff exists? In c# WinForm I want to do drag and drop but I dont want the image of DragDropEffects Move, Copy or whatever. I want to display an image with half opaque. Just like Firefox when dragging an image, you would see the image folowing the mouse pointer like a ghost :) I already Implement DoDragDrop, DragEnter and DragDrop events.   I've got a table in a testing DB that someone apparently got a little too trigger-happy on when running INSERT scripts to set it up. The schema looks like this: ID UNIQUEIDENTIFIER TYPE_INT SMALLINT SYSTEM_VALUE SMALLINT NAME VARCHAR MAPPED_VALUE VARCHAR It's supposed to have a few dozen rows. It has about 200,000, most of which are duplicates in which TYPE_INT, SYSTEM_VALUE, NAME and MAPPED_VALUE are all identical and ID is not. Now, I could probably make a script to clean this up that creates a temporary table in memory, uses INSERT .. SELECT DISTINCT to grab all the unique values, TRUNCATE the original table and then copy everything back. But is there a simpler way to do it, like a DELETE query with something special in the WHERE clause?

• Open Folder within ClearCase Remote Client using Windows Explorer

  Is there a way to open the folder location of a file from within CCRC? While I know I can open/copy from directly within CCRC, it is often useful to work directly with the file from within Windows Explorer. I am looking for something like "open file location" or "open in windows explorer". The folder within CCRC does not appear to allow opening it directly as the double-mouse-click action just expands the tree listing. The path is listed/copyable within the "ClearCase Details" tab, but I am trying to take my laziness to a whole new level by being able to open the folder with a single click. • Best directory to store application data with read\write rights for all users?

  Hi guys. Until Windows Vista I was saving my application data into the directory where the program was located. The most common place was "C:\Program Files\MyApplication". As we know, under Vista and later the common user does't have rights to write under "Program Files" folder. So my first idea was to save the application data under "All Useres\Application Data" folder. But it seams that this folder has writing restrictions too! So to sum up, my requirements are: Folder should exist under Windows XP and above Microsoft's systems. All useres of the system should read\write\creation rights to this folder and it subfolders and files. I want to have only one copy of file\files for all useres. Thanks for your time.

  I've run into a problem setting up Selenium tests for an ASP.NET MVC project in cases where I need the settings provided in the web.config of the site under test. The problem is that I want to create a dummy user before running the test and this causes an error saying that the password-answer supplied is invalid. This is due to the test assembly not using the web.config, instead using default values for membership configuration. I've tried to copy the relevant section (membership configuration) into the app.config of the assembly without luck, but I admit I'm just grasping at straws here.

  Hi, I am writing a function that takes a string, string pointer and an int. The function splits the string based on a set of rules and puts each token into an array. I need to return the array out of the function with the number of elements in the int variable etc. I am stuck as to how I return the array as I can not use auto other wise it is destroyed and I am reluctant to use new as I feel this is patchy. I have other ideas on how to go about this but would like to see how other people go about this first. I could also be wrong and it could be possible to pass an auto out of an array. I can also not use vectors so there goes a copy constructor.

  Using Maven 2, is there a way I can list out the jar dependencies as just the file names? mvn dependency:build-classpath can list the jar files, but that will include the full path to their location in my local repository. What I need is essentially just a list of the file names (or the file names that the copy-dependencies goal copied). So the list I need would be something like activation-1.1.jar,antlr-2.7.6.jar,aopalliance-1.0.jar etc... ideally as a maven property, but I guess, a file such as build-classpath can generate will do. What I am trying to achieve is writing a Bundle-ClassPath to an otherwise manually maintained MANIFEST.MF file for a OSGi bundle. (You shouldn't need to understand this bit to answer the question.) To clarify: The question is not about how to write manifest headers into the MANIFEST.MF file in a jar (that is easily googleble). I am asking about how to get the data I want to write, namely the list shown above.

  Hi, I have two tables. they looks like as follows: Id (int) Tags char(128). the column Tags in table A does not have value. It is empty. The column Tags in table B has value. What I want to copy the Tags in table B to corresponding place of table A. the mapping is based on Id. My sql query is: update A INNER JOIN B set A.Tags = B.Tags where A.Id = B.Id There are about 2,000,000 rows in table A, and 50,000 rows in table B. The update seems very slow.... Could anyone tell me how to make it run faster?

  hi there, currently we have a table for regex format for phone and postal code for countries that we use to validate when the user register through our forms. but the problem remains on the maintenance on the correctness of these format, thus what's a good way to ensure that we always have the latest copy of this information? is there a web service/etc that i can use to get this? or does it even make sense to keep all these format but instead use a relaxed method to ensure that the user just keys in something which roughly matches the format? the information is used solely for shipping and billing address. we're using asp.net 2.0 btw. thanks ~steve

• What's the fastest way to compare two objects in PHP?

  Let's say I have an object - a User object in this case - and I'd like to be able to track changes to with a separate class. The User object should not have to change it's behavior in any way for this to happen. Therefore, my separate class creates a "clean" copy of it, stores it somewhere locally, and then later can compare the User object to the original version to see if anything changed during its lifespan. Is there a function, a pattern, or anything that can quickly compare the two versions of the User object? Option 1 Maybe I could serialize each version, and directly compare, or hash them and compare? Option 2 Maybe I should simply create a ReflectionClass, run through each of the properties of the class and see if the two versions have the same property values? Option 3 Maybe there is a simple native function like objects_are_equal($object1,$object2);? What's the fastest way to do this?

This script also adds the current date once it makes a copy and moves it this file into a backup folder, i am planning to have this bat file run by a windows scheduler task every day.
