• Can't Get Virtual Users Setup in VSFTPD -Tried Everything

  Have Ubuntu 11.10 with vsftpd installed and working. Can not get virtual users setup at all? Vsftpd will allow main Ubuntu owner account to login, but nothing else? I've followed several tutorials on adding virtual users, but nothing works? I just need to add 2 virtual users and have them be able to upload files to vsftpd Ubuntu computer from other computers on my Lan network. Everywhere I've looked, people just point toward tutorials on adding virtual users, but that just is NOT working. I've been struggling with this for over a week now! PLEASE Help. Thanks. I'll even give a donation if someone can figure this out. here is the vsftpd.conf file I am using. I copied the original, and make a new one, every time I try a tutorial. So far, none have worked. • Options for Linux OS executable archive files - self installers

  I am looking to create a web-project that is able to install with a program. The user should be able to download an archive file or tar file, run it (executable), and the setup script would ask for paths and configurable values and then unpack its 'payload' and sorting out the contents for deployment. This would be a Linux version of the MSI installer. Is there such a thing for Linux operating systems? This does not involve kernel level manipulations. All it needs to do is copy directories and files on the filesystem, which should cover about 80% if not more of all the *nix distributions.

• Elmah on MVC website with WordPress/php sub directory

  I have created a website using ASP.NET MVC and use ELMAH for error handling, this works perfectly. After setting up a virtual directory on my website under /blog and adding the necessary WordPress php files and mysql db, I get the below error come up. Could not load file or assembly 'Elmah' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I think this has something to do with the fact that ELMAH is applying itself to all sub-directories. Is there a way that I can tell ELMAH to ignore everything under /blog? Or is there a way to get around this? Thanks in advance.

• Double Free inside of a destructor upon adding to a vector

  Hey, I am working on a drum machine, and am having problems with vectors. Each Sequence has a list of samples, and the samples are ordered in a vector. However, when a sample is push_back on the vector, the sample's destructor is called, and results in a double free error. • autoconf libtool library linker path incorrect (need drive-letter) for MinGW ld.exe in Cygwin

  I use autoconf and when the target is mingw I was using the -mno-cygwin flag. This has been removed so I'm trying to using the mingw tool chain. The problem is the linker isn't finding my libraries /bin/sh ../../../libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link mingw32-g++ -g -Wall -pedantic -DNOMINMAX -D_REENTRANT -DWIN32 -I /usr/local/include/w32api -L/usr/local/lib/w32api -o testRandom.exe testRandom.o -L../../../lib/Random -lRandom libtool: link: mingw32-g++ -g -Wall -pedantic -DNOMINMAX -D_REENTRANT -DWIN32 -I /usr/local/include/w32api -o .libs/testRandom.exe testRandom.o -L/usr/local/lib/w32api -L/home/Tam/src/3DS_Games/lib/Random -lRandom D:\cygwin\opt\MinGW\bin\..\lib\gcc\mingw32\3.4.5\..\..\..\..\mingw32\bin\ld.exe: cannot find -lRandom To link this from the command line using the mingw linker the -L path needs the drive letter i.e mingw32-ld testRandom.o -LD:/home/Tam/src/3DS_Games/lib/Random -lRandom works. The -L path is generated from the makefile.am's which have LDADD = -L$(top_builddir)/lib/Random -lRandom However I can't find how to set top_builddir to a relative path or to start it with the drive letter (my autoconf skills are weak). As a tempoary "solution" I have removed the use of libtool. I could hack a $(DRIVE_LETTER) infront of every -L option, but I'd like to find something better.

• Seeking web-based FTP client for very large file upload

  I have looked around for these for some time... the limits imposed by the web server and/or the dynamic programming environment (e.g. PHP) are far too restrictive for the application I'm working on. We need to be able to move large graphics and video files to and from clients (ranging from tens of MB to a few GB in a single file). Plain FTP with a proper desktop client will do the trick, and we're hosting this in Amazon EC2 with EBS. User management will be done from the office via webmin. Users are chroot-jailed into their home dir by proftpd. net2ftp will work for many clients, but we often need to move single files that approach 1GB or exceed 2-3GB which is way out of the range of any http-based uploader. So we turn to Java or Flash - can they do it? From within the web browser establish an FTP connection and grab a huge file? There are licensed applets and such out there, but none seem convincing. Again, I'm looking for some code that can speak FTP and read (& write?) the local disk, that is delivered in a web browser, and can move single files of 2GB+. The reason for having a web-based interface to FTP is to skip the software installation step for our clients. I will consider proper desktop client software as long as it's "portable" and at least Win+Mac and can be easily configured by lay-man users in a hurry.

  My site has a library full of games, nations, game scenarios, etc. library.php is given a type=___ & id=___ for example library.php?type=scenario&id=ABCD001 library.php saves the id to a session variable and loads an include appropriate for the type This all works just dandy. Now, I wanted to give my users the option of pulling up a random scenario. To do that, I added a special id to the logic within lib-scenario.php (the include) such that if given library.php?type=scenario&id=random the include knows to run an alternate query for a random record rather than for the actual id This also works just dandy... unless someone hits the Random Scenario button two+ times in a row, and decides that the previous random scenario was way cooler, I want to go back to that. Because the http address is always directory/library.php?type=scenario&id=random no matter how many times you click Random Scenario, as soon as you click back you'll be taken to the last page with an alternate address you visited. So, if you start at the Home page, and hit Random Scenario 35 times, then decide the 34th one was what you wanted and click BACK, you'll be put back onto the Home page. I must admit this was not a problem I had anticipated. One of my testers was the first to have the urge to back-up in the random scenario stream and here we are. How can I add back-up functionality to my script?

• What is a good client for handling large amounts of mail ?

  Although the title sums it up nice, I'll repeat and explain. What would be a good email client for handling large amounts of mail ? Large portion of mails I receive come with attachments (zip, rar, pdf, dwg, etc.) and within a month I usually have another 1,5-2Gb of new mail. I've noticed that 'standard' Outlook Express (with whose interface I've been very happy) gets awfully slow after a while. Archiving helps but not much. Then I usually take the files, move them onto a dvd, delete all messages I can do without and start anew. The thing is, I would love to have them all in email client since I often go after some old mails (slow projects). So, what would be good alternatives ? If it is portable, that would also be nice, but I can also live without it. post scriptum: I love @gmail, but cannot use it for work. I know I could theoretically forward all of it there, and back, but that approach doesn't make my boss very happy (email handling policies and similar).

• Restricting dynamically loaded classes and jars based on a security policy

  Hi, I would like to dynamically load a set of jars or classes (i.e. plugins loaded at runtime). At the same time, I would like to restrict what these plugins are able to do in the JVM. For a test case, I would like to restrict them to pretty much everything (right now I'm just allowing one System.getProperty value to be read). I am currently using a security policy file, but I'm having difficulty specifying a policy for one folder or package in my codeBase, but not another. Here is how my policy looks now: grant codeBase "file:/home/max/programming/java/plugin/plugins/" { permission java.util.PropertyPermission "java.version", "read"; }; grant codeBase "file:/home/max/programming/java/plugin/api/" { permission java.security.AllPermission; }; Where (for testing purposes), all files in the plugins package and folder are restricted, but the classes in the api folder are not. Is this possible? Do I have to create a custom class loader? Is there a better way to go about doing this? Thanks.

• How to split a path platform independent?

  I'm using the following code to get an array with all sub directories from a given path. String[] subDirs = path.split(File.separator); I need the array to check if certain folders are at the right place in this path. This looked like a good solution until findBugs complains that File.separator is used as a regular expression. It seems that passing the windows file separator to a function that is building a regex from it is a bad idea because the backslash being an escape character. How can I split the path in a cross platform way without using File.separator? Or is code like this okay? String[] subDirs = path.split("/");

It is true that the log file does not exist (the folder structure does), but if I set the file directly to that path (<param name="File" value="C:/Apps/Apache/Tomcat7/logs/GEM.log" />) it works fine. Why can't I use the replacement string?

• Grails 1.2.0 not finding plugins in the default repository.

  I do not know what changed in my environment, but all of a sudden I can not pull any plugins from the default repository. I went through the _*.groovy scripts and nothing has changed in my grails home directory and it appears that the default repository url is set correctly (DEFAULT_PLUGIN_DIST = "http://plugins.grails.org"). I am assuming it is an environment setting that changed on me, because if I switch to an old version of grails that I have installed, 1.1.1 for example, list-plugins is returning a full list of plugins. • Reading Data from DDFS ValueError: No JSON object could be decoded

  I'm running dozens of map reduce jobs for a number of different purposes using disco. My data has grown enormous and I thought I would try using DDFS for a change rather than standard txt files. I've followed the DISCO map/reduce example Counting Words as a map/reduce job, without to much difficulty and with the help of others, Reading JSON specific data into DISCO I've gotten past one of my latest problems. I'm trying to read data in/out of ddfs to better chunk and distribute it but am having a bit of trouble. • IntelliJ: Adding resources to the class path, but still gives me "java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle.... locale en_US"

  I am quite new to intellij and i have loaded in a project that i wish to compile, everything seems to be going well, but when i compile it. I get the bundle cannot be found. java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name openfire_i18n, locale en_US at java.util.ResourceBundle.throwMissingResourceException(ResourceBundle.java:1499) After doing some investigation, it appears i have to include the resources in the class path, is this correct? I have done Project Settings, Modules, Dependencies, and i added a "Jars or directories" There is a checkbox that says Export, i have tried clicking it and unclicking it :-) My resources i can see are in i8n\ResourceBundle I tried adding the i8n and it asked me for a category for selected files, i put classes RUN - but still same error.. so i tried adding the i8n/ResourceBundle directory RUN - still same error. I notice under my ResourceBundle directory there are C:\Dev\Java\openfire_src_3_7_1\openfire_src\src\i18n\openfire_i18n_en.properties but there is no specific en_US but i thought it supposed to fallback to EN ?? SO i think everything is ok. Can anyone help I am really stuck Thanks

  I have a menu composed of a single image (e.g., sprites). In order to display the hover image, I simply move the background image down. I'd like this effect to be controlled by jQuery and animated.   hi guys i'm new to asp.net mvc.. so basically i just build up a two page app which takes the registration information of the user and post it to the database. i use a lot of jquery and ajax calls to retrieve data from the database using linq to sql stored proc object. and currently i'm stuck at one page where after the user submits the form it should redirect him to /Home/AddProduct. What i found was the error: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. what used on my form are basically a combination of html controls, asp.net controls and some asp.net mvc type controls. i submit the form using action="/Home/ProductAdded" and after doing some googling i found i was supposed to add in the machine key but after doing so, the index page becomes unviewable. because it couldn't find the index file now. removing the action helps, but now it just doesn't go anywhere. so what am i missing here? i feel i'm missing a lot of fundamentals understanding about asp.net mvc and i don't even know how to submit a form and go to a different page here!!

• Wordpress "Vote It Up" plugin help

  I'm creating a dig like site with wordpress, TDO Mini forms and Vote it up where people who live in the city can log on, post their ideas of how to improve the city and have others vote. on the home page there are 2 columns. right is the TDO submit form. left are the "Most Wanted" items. the posts with the highest rating. I've found an impressive lack of information on this plugin. im not great with php but i can make do most of the time. I want to output the post title, post author, links for yes and no votes as well as have the titles in the left column list in most popular order. preferably id like the home pages to have only the top 5 or so highest rated posts. I cant find any way to output that information as i need. I was really hoping there was a simple way to call the highest rated post titles in the loop for the main page but there doesnt seem to be a way. Bout the only thing i've found is the DisplayVotes tag which isnt incredibly helpful. does anybody know how i can accomplish this, or can provide some expert advise? help would be immensely appreciated.

  I found a very helpful post on here about cropping images in a circle. However, when I try to execute the imagemagick script using exec in PHP, I'm getting no results. I've checked to make sure the directories have the correct permissions and such. Is there a step I'm missing? Any insight would be much appreciated. • Backup software for incremental swapped-out drives?

  We're using Acronis Home 11 to backup our main Windows machine at the office. We have a set of portable hard drives that we swap out each week, for redundancy. We have incremental sets ( a new diff of the entire series each night) building on each drive. However, from time to time, Acronis gets confused and sometimes makes a new full backup. This eats up a lot of drive on the disks. Also, I have to trick the Acronis script each time I swap out a drive and point it to the new incremental backup set. Finally, if a drive gets full, there's no way to partition the backup set on a drive. I found this out the hard way, and now one drive is full with one backup set. So now on the other drive, I have three folders of backup sets. When one starts to get full, I delete the oldest one and start a new set. That way one single drive never gets filled up with one single backup set. I'm looking for a backup software that can backup Windows in incremental sets, and doesn't get tripped up with swapped out drives. Is there a better solution?

• Developer tool for configuring IIS6

  edit: IIS6; I'm not sure IIS7 is an option in the immediate future... From a developer angle, I am constantly changing my IIS settings, or need to merge settings from other teams into different VMs. The "Save Configuration to Disk" has never really worked well for me. Because we are making lots of small changes, web installation projects have never really worked either... Tools aimed for the web-admin aren't necessarily a good fit for the developer - we have different aims and needs. Does anyone have a script / tool / utility that would allow us to quickly configure IIS? In particular: remove everything (start clean) add a load of virtual directories, each mapped to application base paths set as an application set the app-pool (we'll assume the app pool already exists) set the ASP.NET version to 2.x if needed from some find of flat input list (any format would do).

• 8007064c(2011) and 80280007(2009) persistant after all known repairs

  I'm on Windows 7 Home x64, and have ran into a major issue with Live Messenger(which I use daily). I have full offline installers for both 2011 and the last Wave 3 2009(14.0.8117.0416) Suites. Both give the following errors: Live Essentials 2011 Offline installer(official): An unknown error occured. Error:0x8007064c Source WLXSuite WL 2009 offline installer(official): You already have a more recent version of Windows Live. Error: OnCatalogResult:0x80280007 Next steps: If you want to install this older version, first uninstall any later versions that are on your computer. Get help with this error The 2011 installer also says it is updating messenger, I don't select anything else. Then last 2009 installer says their is a newer version that needs uninstalled even after the following procedures. MS Help pages provided all basically lead to using uninstall from control panel. Which I've uninstalled all Live components including watcom safety scanner and portable SQL from. I've followed online instructions for manually deleting folders from Program Files(x86), Appdata, and some others under \User\All Users and the one for the one account on the machine. I've used CCcleaner 3.01, ASC 3.7.3 and Beta 4 with deep scan along with deleting folders, and checked their uninstallers for Live components too, and none were there. wlmuninstaller.exe tool reports nothing, but after a failed install it finds something, but failes to clean it under all user admin privilege. The same errors still occur after all of that. Google searching I see people on forums suggesting reinstalling the OS cause MS doesn't even know how to fix this, but I'm hoping someone here can help. NOTE: I don't have System Restore or any other state freeze utilities going, and I don't have any real time AV going(I sometime scan with defender, anti rootkits, and online scanners).
