  • Wine not working ubuntu 12.10

    So I upgraded on a fresh install to ubuntu 12.10, not beta, and I've tried installing wine many mannnnyy times now many different ways but the jist of it is this "This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. The following packages have unmet dependencies: wine: " any ideas? it wont let me install the dependencies either it says it needs another set of dependencies to install them -_- im on asus kj50 64bit os dual boot with windows 7 sudo apt-get install wine1.5 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.     I don't have access to Office 2008, but require the information for a project I'm working on. I'm mainly interested in Word, Excel and Powerpoint. This is the information I have gathered so far... The preference file is: ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.plist The property keys take the form: 2008\File Aliases\{APP}{n} 2008\MRU Access Date\{APP}{n} where {APP} represents an Office application, and {n} represents a number starting from 0. The applications are represented by the following values: MSWD (Word) XCEL (Excel) What value represents PowerPoint? In the property list I've seen, the numbers represented by {n} range from 0-10 (11 items). Is 10 the limit? or is this unrestrained? Finally, I've noticed that Office 2011 does not add its Recent Items to the Apple System menu: Apple > Recent Items Is Office 2008 the same?

Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 13.10 Release: 13.10 Codename: saucy but when I do sudo apt-get update ubuntu still looks at the raring: Hit http://ppa.launchpad.net raring/main amd64 Packages Hit http://ppa.launchpad.net raring/main i386 Packages That's strange... I definetely don't have in /etc/apt/sources.list, but there's a lot of raring stuff in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/. How do I remove it? (I think it longers my updates)

    I am just starting up a small website development business and one of the issues I am having is remembering passwords and account information for clients hosting, cpanel, ftp accounts etc. I was wondering what is the most suitable system / industry standard for controlling such information? Pretty marginal on the close there... I read the FAQ and I felt list this could be a common issue for webmasters, its defiantly not a coding questions so stackoverflow is out of the question and its not a broad question its focused on one particular aspect of being a webmaster.

  • FTP Folder Permissions / IIS8

    I am having trouble copying information from one folder on an FTP site to another folder. Accessing the FTP site from a windows explorer. I have set Full Control over the parent folder, and I double checked...I have full control over the two folders that is trying to copy information from and to. It actually lets you right click and copy. Then when you try to go to another folder and right-click and paste, the paste option is grayed out. I was able to do it before and no one has changed the IIS permissions. I believe it's a Windows issue. Is it possible that even though the permissions are set to give full control over that directory, that something else is interfering? I did double check the IIS permissions. I am not on a domain, using anonymous access, made sure the access control is set to read/write.

  • At what point does caching become necessary for a web application?

    I'm considering the architecture for a web application. It's going to be a single page application that updates itself whenever the user selects different information on several forms that are available that are on the page. I was thinking that it shouldn't be good to rely on the user's browser to correctly interpret the information and update the view, so I'll send the user's choices to the server, and then get the data, send it back to the browser, and update the view. There's a table with 10,000 or so rows in a MySQL database that's going to be accessed pretty often, like once every 5-30 seconds for each user. I'm expecting 200-300 concurrent users at one time. I've read that a well designed relational database with simple queries are nothing for a RDBMS to handle, really, but I would still like to keep things quick for the client. Should this even be a concern for me at the moment? At what point would it be helpful to start using a separate caching service like Memcached or Redis, or would it even be necessary? I know that MySQL caches popular queries and the results, would this suffice?

    This is the first in a series of entries on developing applications for the embedded environment. Most of this information is relevant to any type of embedded development (and even for desktop and server too), not just Java. This information is based on a talk Hinkmond Wong and I gave at JavaOne 2012 entitled Reducing Dynamic Memory in Java Embedded Applications. One thing to remember when developing embeddded applications is that memory matters. Yes, memory matters in desktop and server environments as well, but there's just plain less of it in embedded devices. So I'm going to be talking about saving this precious resource as well as another precious resource, CPU cycles...and a bit about power too. CPU matters too, and again, in embedded devices, there's just plain less of it. What you'll find, no surprise, is that there's a trade-off between performance and memory. To get better performance, you need to use more memory, and to save more memory, you need to need to use more CPU cycles. I'll be discussing three Memory Reduction Categories: - Optionality, both build-time and runtime. Optionality is about providing options so you can get rid of the stuff you don't need and include the stuff you do need. - Tunability, which is about providing options so you can tune your application by trading performance for size, and vice-versa. - Efficiency, which is about balancing size savings with performance.

  • Is there a way to read the contents of the master boot record?

    Reading another question on here it made me curious if it's possible to actually read the contents of the mbr. As I understand it, there's a certain area at the very front of the partition that lists this information. I'm curious if it's sort of like an ini file or some sort of script that runs and tells the computer what it needs to know about where to boot from and other information like sectors, heads, cylinders that's important. I don't know much about what would be in it, but I thought it'd be interesting to learn more about the specifics.

  • How to create a Service Connection Point for Exchange (Manually)

    I'm being cautious here. Before I remove anything I want to be able to put it back. I'm having issues with a domain joined computer that is using SCP to get exchange autodiscovery information. It's getting information for the now unused internal Exchange through SCP even through the profile is using Office 365 on another domain. According to this conversation, I can simply remove the object from Active Directory Sites and Services. I want to know how to add back in should this create more problems, or if we reinstate the Exchange server. Right clicking on the parent "autodiscover" node doesn't allow me to create a Service Connection Point. Will simply running the cmdlet "Set-ClientAccessServer -identity servername -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri url" be enough to recreate the object? Thank you!

  • mac os x default editor for .dotsystemfiles

    This is a seemingly simple question but I can't find an answer so far despite search quite a bit. I'd like that when I open a .dotsystemfile in finder (i.e. .htaccess or .vimrc) it opens in a different editor than textedit. Doing the regular change-all in the info panel won't do the trick as it gives the following error: " An error occurred while changing the application that opens “.vimrc” because not enough information is available. Do you want to open “.vimrc” with “MacVim.app”? " This isn't a huge issue but it is like a small splinter that I've love removed. Thanks for any helpful information.
