  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - Black Screen at boot After changing Nvidia Driver

    2 days ego i updated my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to latest updates but i ignored Grub Updating because I thought it will clear my grub settings (I'm so noob!). After restart every things was right, the Ubuntu started normally and every things was working well except graphic which had problem before update. I had the experimental driver before but I changed it to the current-update version. After restart Ubuntu stock on black screen. I tried to reinstall Nvidia driver from recovery but it not worked. Then i used Update Grub in recovery, it not worked too but i see this line on screen at boot: at this time it stops and keyboard not working, but when I push the power button it shows these lines and it will shutdown. OK finally I made it start with older kernel (3.5.0-28-generic). Now how can I keep this kernel or fix Ubuntu to work with new kernel? Should I reinstall Nvidia driver? Which version should I use?

  • How to have similar sound quality in Banshee and Rhythmbox (or Totem) ?

    Hello, I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on an Acer Aspire 6390G. With its 5.1 embedded sound system, this laptop is good at playing music using in-built speakers. The soundcard is an HDA-Intel ALC888. When I use Rhythmbox (version 0.13.1) (or Totem) (and the in-built speakers), the sound is deep, warm, great. But with Banshee (version 1.8.0.), it is always crispy and basically of poor quality when the Banshee equalizer is disabled. I know that it is possible to fine tune Banshee sound using the equalizer, but after some time spent trying to properly adjust it without success, I decided to ask this question on askubuntu.com. Is there a way to get the same sound quality in Banshee as in Rhythmbox (or Totem) or keeping on adjusting Banshee equalizer is the only alternative to try to solve this problem ? (If the answer is the latter, is there anyone who would be kind enough to provide me his equalizer settings ?) Thanks all for your answers.

    I've tried to find a solution for this for hours now, and I'm getting the same results in the end, asking me to install a lot of Azure and other stuff, plus running some example project .sln that I can't open with my 2012 version of Visual Studio. So, I'm pretty much stuck, and have some pretty straight forward questions regarding this: Does TFS 2012 include the Odata service in any way, so that I don't have to install it? If not, how can I install a NATIVE 2012 version of the Odata service for TFS 2012? Is it possible that I'm aiming for the wrong target here? I'm looking for a solution to the following: I have a TFS 2012 Server that I need to be able to create Work Items on programatically, based on data from our Help Desk system. Then I need to query these Work Items for changed status since its creation, and update the Help Desk Database. Am I better off using the "regular" TFS API? I was kinda thinking that the Odata way was more "future proof", but I'm not sure...

    I'm working with the GD library for image manipulation, to which I need to create some transparent PNGs. Instead, I'm getting a black background. I've looked everywhere on how to generate a blank, transparent PNG canvas with it and all the answers just don't work for me. On further inspection, I'm working with an old GD version: The functions needed to create a transparent PNG requires 2.0.1 altough 2.0.28 or later is recommended. I installed php5-gd with apt-get, and aptitude haven't found new packages. Do I have to add a new PPA? Where can I find it? What about forcing a version? Thanks in advance!

  • How to get the Dash and HUD to appear. (and stop Unity spewing error messages.)

    I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my wifes Dell Inspiron 1501, which uses an R300 ATI graphics chip. Neither the Dash or HUD appear when pushing the appropriate key. When I try unity --reset & in the terminal, I see that over and over it's spitting out: r300: CS space validation failed. (not enough memory?) Skipping rendering. This is just after starting Ubuntu with no apps open, so I find it hard to believe that just rendering the Dash / HUD is completely blowing out the VRAM.   • Evoluent Vertical Mouse - Re-mapping Buttons?

    I have the Evoluent Vertical Mouse at work and at home. One is wired, the other wireless. Ubuntu maps their buttons differently and it makes me crazy when I switch locations. I use 12.10, but same has applied to every Ubuntu version since 9.10. The wired mouse is as desired: top finger button is left-click, scroll wheel is middle click and scroll, middle finger button is a right-click. On the wireless version, bottom finger button is mapped to right-click and the middle finger button is center-click.   • Color distortion with Intel HD4000 over HDMI output - VGA is fine

    I set up a new system with i5 3570k gigabyte z77 d3h using integrated graphics (HD4000) and I've installed the 64bit Desktop version of 12.04. Connected to my Acer Screen via HDMI, the colors are horribly distorted. I think the biggest issue is that black appears as greenish. Over VGA everything is fine. Interestingly, I once observed that connecting both, the VGA and the HDMI cable at the same time, solved the issue. Ubuntu thought 2 screens were connected, I mirrored the image, and over HDMI the colors looked fine. However, after a reboot I am now unable to reproduce this behavior. I read frequently, that Intel hardware should be supported out of the box by Ubuntu but it doesn't seem to be the case here. Should I upgrade my Kernel? If so, which version would you recommend?   • JCP.next.3: time to get to work

    As I've previously reported in this blog, we planned three JSRs to improve the JCP’s processes and to meet our members’ expectations for change. The first - JCP.next.1, or more formally JSR 348: Towards a new version of the Java Community Process - was completed in October 2011. This focused on a small number of simple but important changes to make our process more transparent and to enable broader participation. We're already seeing the benefits of these changes as new and existing JSRs adopt the new requirements. However, because we wanted to complete this JSR quickly we deliberately postponed a number of more complex items, including everything that would require modifying the JSPA (the legal agreement that members sign when they join the organization) to a follow-on JSR. The second JSR (JSR 355: JCP Executive Committee Merge) is in progress now and will complete later this year. This JSR is even simpler than the first, and is focused solely on merging the two Executive Committees into one for greater efficiency and to encourage synergies between the Java ME and Java SE platforms. Continuing the momentum to move Java and the JCP forward we have just filed the third JSR (JCP.next.3) as JSR 358: A major revision of the Java Community Process. This JSR will modify the JSPA as well as the Process Document, and will tackle a large number of complex issues, many of them postponed from JSR 348. For these reasons we expect to spend a considerable amount of time working on it - at least a year, and probably more. The current version of the JSPA was created back in 2002, although some minor changes were introduced in 2005. Since then the organization and the environment in which we operate have changed significantly, and it is now time to revise our processes to ensure that they meet our current needs. We have a long list of topics to be considered, including the role of independent implementations (those not derived from the Reference Implementation), licensing and open source, ensuring that our new transparency requirements are implemented correctly, compatibility policy and TCKs, the role of individual members, patent policy, and IP flow. The Expert Group for JSR 358, as with all process-change JSRs, consists of all members of the Executive Committees. Even though the JSR has just been filed we started discussions on the various topics several months ago (see the EC's meeting minutes for details) and our EC members - including the new members who joined within the last year or two - are actively engaged. Now it's your opportunity to get involved. As required by version 2.8 of our Process (introduced with JSR 348) we will conduct all our business in the open. We have a public java.net project where you can follow and participate in our work. All of our deliberations will be copied to a public Observer mailing list, we'll track our issues on a public Issue Tracker, and all our documents (meeting agendas and minutes, task lists, working drafts) will be published in our Document Archive.   • Oracle Applications Cloud Release 8 Customization: Your User Interface, Your Text

    Introducing the User Interface Text Editor In Oracle Applications Cloud Release 8, there’s an addition to the customization tool set, called the User Interface Text Editor  (UITE). When signed in with an application administrator role, users launch this new editing feature from the Navigator's Tools > Customization > User Interface Text menu option. See how the editor is in there with other customization tools? User Interface Text Editor is launched from the Navigator Customization menu Applications customers need a way to make changes to the text that appears in the UI, without having to initiate an IT project. Business users can now easily change labels on fields, for example. Using a composer and activated sandbox, these users can take advantage of the Oracle Metadata Services (MDS), add a key to a text resource bundle, and then type in their preferred label and its description (as a best practice for further work, I’d recommend always completing that description). Changing a simplified UI field label using Oracle Composer In Release 8, the UITE enables business users to easily change UI text on a much wider basis. As with composers, the UITE requires an activated sandbox where users can make their changes safely, before committing them for others to see. The UITE is used for editing UI text that comes from Oracle ADF resource bundles or from the Message Dictionary (or FND_MESSAGE_% tables, if you’re old enough to remember such things). Functionally, the Message Dictionary is used for the text that appears in business rule-type error, warning or information messages, or as a text source when ADF resource bundles cannot be used. In the UITE, these Message Dictionary texts are referred to as Multi-part Validation Messages.   If the text comes from ADF resource bundles, then it’s categorized as User Interface Text in the UITE. This category refers to the text that appears in embedded help in the UI or in simple error, warning, confirmation, or information messages. The embedded help types used in the application are explained in an Oracle Fusion Applications User Experience (UX) design pattern set. The message types have a UX design pattern set too. Using UITE  The UITE enables users to search and replace text in UI strings using case sensitive options, as well as by type. Users select singular and plural options for text changes, should they apply. Searching and replacing text in the UITE The UITE also provides users with a way to preview and manage changes on an exclusion basis, before committing to the final result. There might, for example, be situations where a phrase or word needs to remain different from how it’s generally used in the application, depending on the context. Previewing replacement text changes. Changes can be excluded where required. Multi-Part Messages The Message Dictionary table architecture has been inherited from Oracle E-Business Suite days. However, there are important differences in the Oracle Applications Cloud version, notably the additional message text components, as explained in the UX Design Patterns. Message Dictionary text has a broad range of uses as indicated, and it can also be reserved for internal application use, for use by PL/SQL and C programs, and so on. Message Dictionary text may even concatenate together at run time, where required. The UITE handles the flexibility of such text architecture by enabling users to drill down on each message and see how it’s constructed in total. That way, users can ensure that any text changes being made are consistent throughout the different message parts. Multi-part (Message Dictionary) message components in the UITE Message Dictionary messages may also use supportability-related numbers, the ones that appear appended to the message text in the application’s UI. However, should you have the requirement to remove these numbers from users' view, the UITE is not the tool for the job. Instead, see my blog about using the Manage Messages UI.

    Hello. I have organised my site by language using the following structure: www.domain.com #spanish language version www.domain.com/en #english language version The site is of Spanish subject matter hence Spanish language takes priority at root of domain. Although the site is new at this stage I would hope visiting from google.com and google.es would return English and Spanish versions respectively. Are there any particular steps I need take to separate the two. Should I add them both as individual sites in Google's webmaster tools and also should I submit individual site maps for each 'site' or as a whole? Thanks in advance.

    I am trying to install a program but I am getting a dependency error. The error clearly points out: Dependency is not satisfiable: libc6-amd64 (>= 2.14) I went on to investigate and I found out that I have 2.19 version installed, actually: alex@MaD-pc:~$ apt-cache policy libc6-amd64 libc6-amd64:i386: Installed: 2.19-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 2.19-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 2.19-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Why am I getting this error if I already have this package? I also should probably mention that the system is 100% up to date. I run the updates and upgrades, restarted the system and then tried to install the package again with the same error popping up. Edit 1: I am using amd64 but I have installed some 32-bit libraries required by some program installed via wine if I recall correctly.
