• Does using magic_quotes() affect the use of mysql_real_escape_string()

  If I have magic_quotes switched on and I use mysql_real_escape_string, will the tring be double escaped? Will it cause problems? I assume so based on the get_magic_quotes() function but just seeking confirmation. (PS it's easier to ask this question than test it in my office with all the security we have in place - It takes me 10-15 to configure everything to get a useable envirnment)

  I'm working to create an HTML email which includes 2 images. Currently, I'm using tags to place the image in the email. Problem is when users get the email, it's asking the user to "click to download" for security reasons. Is there a way to embed the image in the email, to avoid this issue? • drag drop no longer working once application gets installed.

  I have an application that has drag and drop functionality to import images and video's. While developing, and testing through Visual Studio this has never given any problems. After installing through a set up project, everything in the application works fine, except the drag and drop, which seems to be doing nothing. Are there any security settings that need to be set through an installer, or something of that nature that could be preventing drag and drop after installation ?

  I love running as a standard user for its security pluses, my admin account is password protected. The problem appears when I need to run a program that requires admin rights, is there a way to include the password somehow so I won't have to type it every time ? Without changing my current setup: admin password protected account and I log on to a limited standard user account. I'm thinking of script or something like that ?

  hi the win mobile 6 code tries to write files on network shared folder, but always gets UnauthorizedAccessException. I have checked permission and security setting on the folder and the code can read the file but just cant write to it. The code runs under administrator account which has full control over the folder and files. It is in vs 2008 professional with device emulator.Any help please? thanks very much.

One of the servers work just fine, The other one is just dead, I have impression the the security configuration are different on those servers. What prevents an application X from connecting a web-service, given that another application y on the same server can connect to it. and X is a windows service. What I should check, what is chances? • Need advice - Developing a flexible documentation system, heavily focused on localization

  I've been charged with building a documentation system/platform. Here's a short list of the major requirements: Easily localized : This will need to support a dozen or so languages out of the gate. (the ability for non-technical personnel to add/update translations would be a big plus, though not 100% required) Flexibility in output formats : At the bare minimum, I need to output the documents (either as a whole or in selected chunks) as PDF and HTML. Bonus points for native formats like Windows Help Files. Managed and deployed via an intuitive user interface (web, ideally). I'm wondering if you folks know of any systems out there that support this type of thing already? I'm not averse to writing this from scratch, but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if I can help it. The two major candidates I've come across thus far are DocBook and reST. The former seems to have garnered a reputation for, well, sucking. I'm unfamiliar with either, but I'm told that reST would get me a good portion of the way there. Any other suggestions? Would I be better off building this from scratch?

  I'm looking at the possibility of using Android as a secure corporate mobile platform. One of the pre-requisites for this will be a way of managing multiple devices, security policies, software deployment, that sort of thing - essentially the things the BlackBerry Enterprise Server handles for BlackBerry or MDM (or something 3rd party like SOTI) handles for Windows Mobile. Does such a thing exist for Android? It's a platform we're interested in but without this right now (and we're not in a position to build it ourselves) it's a non-starter.

  While I can appreciate the point of the fine granularity in which you can enable security for every single little thing for each individual application in tomcat, in reality, it's an insane pain in the ass. Every single file, socket, everything for every single application. Sure if you're writing a "hello world" application, it's not too much to ask, but an enterprise sized application? That's insane. Does anybody actually use it, or does everybody just say "*" for everything?

  Does the original data type of the username string in a call to FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(...) make any difference with regards to security or code maintainability? As I understand it, the cookie is encrypted and used to identify a user on each request. I'm curious whether it should affect the design of the primary key on my Users table in my database, eg.   Let's assume the following: I have an IIS web site set up IIS is configured to use Digest authentication I'm running an ASP.NET page The page has a code-behing assembly that overrides Page_Load When a user navigates to that page, I get a security prompt for the username and password. If the username and password are invalid (i.e. incorrect password) is there a way for the called page, in Page_Load to know, or does IIS handle this and return the 401 before the ASP.NET engine ever gets around to resolving the actual Page class that will get executed?
