    Hi I am getting ready to create my first web aplication.I have some knowledge of databases but I have never used databases with relationship created beetween them and also I am not sure how to acces the data in the relationship.My experience is limited to basic CRUD applications and working on simple tables with no realtionship using PHP and MySql. For example I will be creating a login system and for each user I would like to create a profile page that store different data(name , address , profile image etc.).Some of the info will be the same in both tables so there is no point in creating the same table twice. What I would like is if anyone can tell of some tutorials so I can better understand the concept?

    Hi! I have people, companies, employees, events and event kinds. I'm making a report/followup sheet where people, companies and employees are the rows, and the columns are event kinds. Event kinds are simple values describing: "Promised Donation", "Received Donation", "Phoned", "Followed up" and such. Event kinds are ordered: CREATE TABLE event_kinds ( id, name, position); Events hold the actual reference to the event: CREATE TABLE events ( id, person_id, company_id, referrer_id, event_kind_id, created_at); referrer_id is another reference to people. It is the person which sent the information/tip along, and is an optional field, although I sometimes want to filter on an event_kind that has a specific referrer, while I don't for other event kinds. Notice I don't have an employee ID reference. The reference exists, but is implied. I have application code to validate that person_id and company_id really reference an employee record. The other tables are pretty basic: CREATE TABLE people ( id, name); CREATE TABLE companies ( id, name); CREATE TABLE employees ( id, person_id, company_id); I'm trying to achieve the following report: Referrer Phoned Promised Donated Francois Feb 16th Feb 20th Mar 1st Apple (Steve Jobs) Steve Ballmer Mar 3rd IBM Bill Gates Mar 7th The first row is a people record, the 2nd is an employee, and the 3rd is a company. If I asked for referrer Bill Gates for Phoned event kinds, I'd only see the 3rd row, while asking for Steve and Phoned would return no rows. Right now, I do 3 queries, one for companies, one for people and a last one for employees. I want the event kind columns to be ordered, but I do that in application code and show it properly there. There should be an "easier" way to do it. One other filter criteria would be to filter on people/company names: WHERE LOWER(companies.name) LIKE '%apple%'. Note that I'm ordering by the dates of event_kind_9 here, and a secondary sort is by person/company name. To summarize: I want to paginate the result set, find the latest event for each cell, order the result set by the date of the latest event, and by company/person name, filter by referrer in some event kinds, but not others. For reference, I'm using PostgreSQL, from Ruby, ActiveRecord/Rails. The solution is pure SQL though.

I have tried returning a Json array Controller: return Json(new { Success = true, Html= this.RenderViewToString("PersonSubform",person) }); Javascript: var json_data = response.get_response().get_object(); with a pass/fail flag and the partial rendered as a string using the solition below but that doesnt render the mvc validation controls when the form fails. SO RenderPartialToString So, is there any way I can hand my javascript the out of the box PartialView("PersonForm") as its returned from my ajax.form? Can I pass some addition info as a Json array so I can tell if its pass or fail and maybe add a message? UPDATE I can now pass the HTML of a PartialView to my javascript but I need to pass some additional data pairs like ServerValidation : true/false and ActionMessage : "you have just created a Person Bill".     Hello I am in the process of doing a school project, where we have a robot driving on the ground in between Flamingo plates. We need to create an algorithm that can identify the locations of these plates, so we can create paths around them (We are using A Star for that). So far have we worked with AForged Library and we have created the following class, the only problem with this is that when it create the rectangles dose it not take in account that the plates are not always parallel with the camera border, and it that case will it just create a rectangle that cover the whole plate. So we need to some way find the rotation on the object, or another way to identify this.   • Passing integer lists in a sql query, best practices

    I'm currently looking at ways to pass lists of integers in a SQL query, and try to decide which of them is best in which situation, what are the benefots of each, and what are the pitfalls, what should be avoided :) Right now I know of 3 ways that we currently use in our application. 1) Table valued parameter: Create a new Table Valued Parameter in sql server: CREATE TYPE [dbo].[TVP_INT] AS TABLE( [ID] [int] NOT NULL ) Then run the query against it: using (var conn = new SqlConnection(DataContext.GetDefaultConnectionString)) { var comm = conn.CreateCommand(); comm.CommandType = CommandType.Text; comm.CommandText = @" UPDATE DA SET [tsLastImportAttempt] = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP FROM [Account] DA JOIN @values IDs ON DA.ID = IDs.ID"; comm.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("values", downloadResults.Select(d => d.ID).ToDataTable()) { TypeName = "TVP_INT" }); conn.Open(); comm.ExecuteScalar(); } The major disadvantages of this method is the fact that Linq doesn't support table valued params (if you create an SP with a TVP param, linq won't be able to run it) :( 2) Convert the list to Binary and use it in Linq! This is a bit better.. Create an SP, and you can run it within linq :) To do this, the SP will have an IMAGE parameter, and we'll be using a user defined function (udf) to convert this to a table.. We currently have implementations of this function written in C++ and in assembly, both have pretty much the same performance :) Basically, each integer is represented by 4 bytes, and passed to the SP. In .NET we have an extension method that convers an IEnumerable to a byte array The extension method: public static Byte[] ToBinary(this IEnumerable intList) { return ToBinaryEnum(intList).ToArray(); } private static IEnumerable<Byte> ToBinaryEnum(IEnumerable<Int32> intList) { IEnumerator<Int32> marker = intList.GetEnumerator(); while (marker.MoveNext()) { Byte[] result = BitConverter.GetBytes(marker.Current); Array.Reverse(result); foreach (byte b in result) yield return b; } } The SP: CREATE PROCEDURE [Accounts-UpdateImportAttempts] @values IMAGE AS BEGIN UPDATE DA SET [tsLastImportAttempt] = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP FROM [Account] DA JOIN dbo.udfIntegerArray(@values, 4) IDs ON DA.ID = IDs.Value4 END And we can use it by running the SP directly, or in any linq query we need using (var db = new DataContext()) { db.Accounts_UpdateImportAttempts(downloadResults.Select(d => d.ID).ToBinary()); // or var accounts = db.Accounts .Where(a => db.udfIntegerArray(downloadResults.Select(d => d.ID).ToBinary(), 4) .Select(i => i.Value4) .Contains(a.ID)); } This method has the benefit of using compiled queries in linq (which will have the same sql definition, and query plan, so will also be cached), and can be used in SPs as well. Both these methods are theoretically unlimited, so you can pass millions of ints at a time :) 3) The simple linq .Contains() It's a more simple approach, and is perfect in simple scenarios. But is of course limited by this. using (var db = new DataContext()) { var accounts = db.Accounts .Where(a => downloadResults.Select(d => d.ID).Contains(a.ID)); } The biggest drawback of this method is that each integer in the downloadResults variable will be passed as a separate int.. In this case, the query is limited by sql (max allowed parameters in a sql query, which is a couple of thousand, if I remember right). So I'd like to ask.. What do you think is the best of these, and what other methods and approaches have I missed?

The template runs a number of Macros which creates pivot tables and charts. When a colleague tries to run the same xlt on excel 2003 they get a Runtime error 428 (Object does not support this property or method).   • How can I read the verbose output from a Cmdlet in C# using Exchange Powershell

    Environment: Exchange 2007 sp3 (2003 sp2 mixed mode) Visual Studio 2008, .Net 3.5 Hello, I'm working with an Exchange powershell move-mailbox cmdlet and have noted when I do so from the Exchange Management shell (using the Verbose switch) there is a ton of real-time information provided. To provide a little context, I'm attempting to create a UI application that moves mailboxes similarly to the Exchange Management Console but desire to support an input file and specific server/database destinations for each entry (and threading). Here's roughly what I have at present but I'm not sure if there is an event I need to register for or what... And to be clear, I desire to get this information in real-time so I may update my UI to reflect what's occurring in the move sequence for the appropriate user (pretty much like the native functionality offered in the Management Console). And in case you are wondering, the reason why I'm not content with the Management Console functionality is, I have an algorithm which I'm using to balance users depending on storage limit, Blackberry use, journaling, exception mailbox size etc which demands user be mapped to specific locations... and I do not desire to create many/several move groups for each common destination or to hunt for lists of users individually through the management console UI. I can not seem to find any good documentation or examples of how to tie into reading the verbose messages that are provided within the console using C# (I see value in being able to read this kind of information in many different scenarios). I've explored the Invoke and InvokeAsync methods and the StateChanged & DataReady events but none of these seem to provide the information (verbose comments) that I'm after. Any direction or examples that can be provided will be very appreciated!   • How to directly rotate CVImageBuffer image in IOS 4 without converting to UIImage?

    I am using OpenCV 2.2 on the iPhone to detect faces. I'm using the IOS 4's AVCaptureSession to get access to the camera stream, as seen in the code that follows. My challenge is that the video frames come in as CVBufferRef (pointers to CVImageBuffer) objects, and they come in oriented as a landscape, 480px wide by 300px high. This is fine if you are holding the phone sideways, but when the phone is held in the upright position I want to rotate these frames 90 degrees clockwise so that OpenCV can find the faces correctly. I could convert the CVBufferRef to a CGImage, then to a UIImage, and then rotate, as this person is doing: Rotate CGImage taken from video frame However that wastes a lot of CPU. I'm looking for a faster way to rotate the images coming in, ideally using the GPU to do this processing if possible. Any ideas? I want to be able to mix expressions of the same calculus but not be allowed to mix expressions of different ones. So far, so good. I can create my calculus instances, but problem is that I can not write functions in other classes that manipulate them. For example, I am trying to create a parser to read expressions from a file and return them; I also was trying to write an random expression generator to use in my tests with ScalaCheck. Turns out that every time a function generates an Expr object I can't use it outside the function. Even if I create the Calculus instance and pass it as an argument to the function that will in turn generate the Expr objects, the return of the function is not recognized as being of the same type of the objects created outside the function. The proposed solution was to change the signature of the function to: def genRndExpr[E, C <: Calculus[E]](c: C, level: Int): C#Expr I changed the signature for all the functions involved: getRndExpr, getRndVal and getRndVar. And I got the same error message everywhere I call these functions and got the following error message: error: inferred type arguments [Nothing,C] do not conform to method genRndVar's type parameter bounds [E,C genRndVar(c) Since the compiler seemed to be unable to figure out the right types I changed all function call to be like below: case 0 => new c.Neg(genRndExpr[E,C](c, level+1)) After this, on the first 2 function calls (genRndVal and genRndVar) there were no compiling error, but on the following 3 calls (recursive calls to genRndExpr), where the return of the function is used to build a new Expr object I got the following error: error: type mismatch; found : C#Expr required: c.Expr case 0 = new c.Neg(genRndExpr[E,C](c, level+1)) So, again, I'm stuck.   • Large number of soft page faults when assigning a TJpegImage to a TBitmap

    I have a Delphi 6 Pro application that processes incoming jpeg frames from a streaming video server. The code works but I recently noticed that it generates a huge number of soft page faults over time. After doing some investigation, the page faults appear to be coming from one particular graphics operation. Note, the uncompressed bitmaps in question are 320 x 240 or about 300 KB in size so it's not due to the handling of large images. The number of page faults being generated isn't tolerable. Over an hour it can easily top 1000000 page faults. I created a stripped down test case that executes the code I have included below on a timer, 10 times a second. The page faults appear to happen when I try to assign the TJpegImage to a TBitmap in the GetBitmap() method. I know this because I commented out that line and the page faults do not occur. The assign() triggers a decompression operation on the part of TJpegImage as it pushes the decompressed bits into a newly created bitmap that GetBitmap() returns. When I run Microsoft's pfmon utility (page fault monitor), I get a huge number of soft page fault error lines concerning RtlFillMemoryUlong, so it appears to happen during a memory buffer fill operation. One puzzling note. The summary part of pfmon's report where it shows which DLL caused what page fault does not show any DLL names in the far left column. I tried this on another system and it happens there too. Can anyone suggest a fix or a workaround? Here's the code.     I'm struggling to come up with the proper way to design a form that will allow me to input data for two different models. The form is for an 'Incident', which has the following relationships: belongs_to :customer belongs_to :user has_one :incident_status has_many :incident_notes accepts_nested_attributes_for :incident_notes, :allow_destroy => false So an incident is assigned to a 'Customer' and a 'User', and the user is able to add 'Notes' to the incident. I'm having trouble with the notes part of the form.     I have built a blog using Ruby on Rails. New to both. I am implementing AJAX pretty effectively until I get to the error handling portion. I allow for comments on posts and do this by rendering a comment partial and remote form in the /views/posts/show.html.erb page. Upon successful save of a comment the show page is updated using views/comments/create.js.rjs and displays a flash notice. I am simply trying to flash a notice when it doesn't save. Searched around and worked this a bit on my own. Can't get it to fly.     I have read about 10 different posts here about this problem, and I have tried every single one and the error will not go away. So here goes: I am trying to have a nested form on my users/new page, where it accepts user-attributes and also company-attributes.
