    - by HotTester
Since the launch of .net 4.0 a new term that has got into lime light is parallel computing. Does parallel computing provide us some benefits or its just another concept or feature. Further is .net really going to utilize it in applications ? Further is parallel computing different from parallel programming ? Kindly throw some light on the issue in perspective of .net and some examples would be helpful. Thanks...

  • Advice and resources for Apple iOS 4 development

    - by mlambie
I'm looking for resources, screencasts, books, courses, sites and the like to assist with learning Objective-C with the intention of developing applications for Apple's iOS 4. My development team has access to Apple's development program, and is largely coming from a similar background: they're Comp Sci graduates that have experience with Ruby and web languages, but haven't written any C since university. Considering Apple's announcement regarding limited programming language support for developers, what's the current best avenue for learning Objective-C with the desire for developing iPad and iPhone applications?

  • Worst technobabble you've ever heard

    - by pookleblinky
Following the Egregious pop culture perversion of programming, what is the most outlandishly insane technobabble you have ever heard, either in fiction or real life? Extra points to those unfortunates whose real life stories beat Hollywood. Note: feel free to sketch out what would be necessary for such gibberish to actually work.

  • C# OOP File Structure?

    - by Soo
Hey SO, I just started programming with objects recently and am trying to learn good habits early on. The way I plan to structure my application is to have two files: 1: Program.cs - This file will contain the main logic for the application 2: Class.cs - This file will contain all of the class definitions Pretty simple. What I'm wondering if I should have any more files for ... well, you tell me. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is there a tool out there that lets you print a colour chart / palette of colours used on a web page

    - by undefined
I want to print a table of the colours used in a web page that my graphic designer has produced - I have .png files at present and use Fireworks to view them. It would be great if there was a tool that lets you print a table with the colour and hex value so I can easily reference when programming. Anyone come across such a thing? Sounds to me like there should be a firefox extension or similar?

  • Where can one find free software icons / images?

    - by mmattax
This may not be directly related to programming, but I always find it hard to get quality icons that can be used for software. I currently have the need for some type of "green checkmark image", and I always seem to be looking for print, save, delete types of icons... Anybody have good resources? Note: I rather not be stealing someone's intellectual property.

    - by David Hodgson
Hi, I'm working on how my company does documentation (especially programming documentation). I'd like to be able to synchronize sections of different Word documents, such that if a section in one document changes, the change is reflected in the other document, and vice versa. Is there a way to do this with Word, and if not, is there some word processing program that is good at this?

  • Do you think it's a good idea to create a login box as a user control?

    - by Sergio Tapia
Hi there guys! I'm starting out learning some ASP.Net programming and I'm going to be making a little community website for my friends and myself. I'm trying to pick up some good habits along the way. I was thinking of having a usercontrol and have that 'loginBox' shows the appropriate textboxes and login button, but also show his username when he is logged in. Do you think I should handle this as a user control or am I missing something as an ASP.Net newbie?

  • Drawing lattices online

    - by lavabo
This isn't really a programming question but... Is there any way to draw online a lattice for a material, like a compound? i.e. a 3D gridlike pattern? I know there are some applications for drawing mathematical lattices, but the notation to me is unfamiliar - are there simply programs or applets or something for drawing lattices like in a compound?

  • Is Odersky serious with "bills !*&^%~ code!" ?

    - by stacker
In his book programming in scala (Chapter 5 Section 5.9 Pg 93) Odersky mentioned this expression "bills !*&^%~ code! In the footnote on same page: "By now you should be able to figure out that given this code, the Scala compiler would invoke (bills.!*&^%~(code)).!()." That's a bit to cryptic for me, could someone explain what's going on here?
