  Can you help me to find compatible modern server for QNX, please? This is quite rare OS, so most of the hardware vendors do not have compatibility information. • Mecer laptop gives me a white screen when I close the screen

  I'm having a very strange hardware issue with my Mecer m770u laptop with intel i7 quad core, etc... I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue with any other brand/model of laptop, and what I should fix/replace to solve it...? Basically when I close the screen of the laptop, the screen often goes completely white. If I open it slowly and smoothly again, the screen returns to normal. But if I close the screen when the computer is off, and then switch it on, it boots with a white screen, and opening it slowly/smoothly doesn't help. I have to then switch it on and off a few times before it returns to normal. Makes travelling with my laptop really difficult! Any suggestions?

We've got the model 3 ones, but can't find the driver disc and using the Windows Hardware Installation Wizard gets me no where! Can you help me to find the driver? When I've used it at my old school it had a piece of software called the Digital Movie Creator, which I've heard you can use to make stop-motion films, which is what I want to do! • Proper network configuration for a KVM guest to be on the same networks at the host

  I am running a Debian Linux server on Lenny. Within it, I am running another Lenny instance using KVM. Both servers are externally available, with public IPs, as well as a second interface with private IPs for the LAN. Everything works fine, except the VM sees all network traffic as originating from the host server. I suspect this might have something to do with the iptables-based firewall I'm running on the host. What I'd like to figure out is: how to I properly configure the host's networking such that all of these requirements are met? Both host and VMs have 2 network interfaces (public and private). Both host and VMs can be independently firewalled. Ideally, VM traffic does not have to traverse the host firewall. VMs see real remote IP addresses, not the host's. • Where is the actual content in a TCP segment

  When I email something or download a program, or do anything else over a network, where in the segment is the actual content? If I am emailing a 20KB word document, and the maximum data field size in a segment is 1500 bytes, does that mean it takes about 14 segments to mail my document wherever it is going? I get, I think, the OSI model and I have a decent grasp of the IP protocol. I think I understand the concept of header wrapping of each successive layer in the protocol stack. What I can't get a definitive answer to is where does the actual content go in a TCP segment? Is that the datagram? Maybe the fact I am asking proves I have no clue... Many thanks.

• How much processor speed and cores do I need for these tasks?

  I am planning to buy a new laptop as I find my current one very slow. My question here is specifically related to RAM size and CPU power. I will mostly be doing development (not much games). I would be dabbling in distributed computing, multithreaded and data intensive parallelizable tasks on multi-cores. For e.g. I would want to be able to Concurrent programming in Scala/Java/Clojure etc. and be able to see parallelization. Furthermore, I would want the RAM to be enough. But from a developer machine standpoint, do you think 4GB RAM and 2.53GHz Dual Core processor would be enough.   My IIS apppool user is trying to create a folder but fails. How do I find out which User it is? Let's say I don't know much about IIS7 but need to trace whatever is happening through tools. Place of crime is WinSrv2008 with IIS7. So I fire up Sysinternals/ProcessMonitor to find out what is happening. I find Access denied on a folder just as I suspected. But which user? I add the User column to the output and it says IIS Apppool\Defaultapppool in capitals. Well... that isn't a user is it? If I go to IIS and its Apppools and Advanced settings and Process model and Identity I can see clues about which user it is but that is only because I know IIS. What if it had been Apache or LightHttpd or whatever? How do I see the user to give the appropriate rights to?

• My Windows 8 computer does not come out of Standby

  My computer will not come out out of standby. It has had this issue ever since I bought it ~4 years ago. When I purchased it, It came with Vista, I have since upgraded it to 7 and now 8 Pro, each time hoping that it would fix the problem, each time finding that it did not. My computer is an HP Pavilion Model #: m9500y. The computer goes into standby, but does not come out of it properly. If Hybrid sleep in on, it does not respond at all. If Hybrid sleep is off, It comes out and I can see the desktop for a bit, but then the screen goes black again and I have to reboot. I have tried Running a sfc, and a chkdsk in case it's a corrupted file, but it hasn't helped. This isn't too serious an issue because I can just shutdown my computer and turn it on the old fashioned way, but it is annoying and I would appreciate some advice going forward as I'm currently stumped.

• Firefox 3.5.6 Uninstaller not working

  Hi all, I want to uninstall Firefox 3.5.6 in favor of Opera 10.10. However, I've went into Control Panel Add or Remove Programs and tried clicking Remove from there, but nothing happens. I go into the Program Files for FIrefox and find the Uninstaller folder and click the helper.exe found in there. Still, nothing happens. Is there some possible way to uninstall Firefox without screwing up the rest of my computer? • Can a Shadow Copy of SQL 2000 databases files be used as a restore?

  Howdy, I have a SQL 2000 instance (version 8.00.760) that is on a drive that gets regular shadow copies. Can a shadow copy be used to restore the database? It seems possible to stop the SQL service, restore the Data folder from the shadow copy (includes msdb, master, model, temp, and the user databases, then restart the service. Would the files be in a crash consistent case in the worst case? If so, when restarting the service wouldn't it recover as if the power were pulled from the server? Thank you, Keith

  I have just installed a SAS disk into a Debian server. It was detected correctly and everything was fine. Then I moved the SAS disk to a different Debian server, the same hardware model and running same version of Debian, but here the SAS disk is detected as /dev/sg7 and not /dev/sdb. smartctl -a /dev/sg7 works fine, but fdisk and cat hang. I tried putting the SAS disk in another slot: Same problem. How can I force the SAS disk to be detected as /dev/sdb? # uname -a Linux maxwell 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.41-2+deb7u2 x86_64 GNU/Linux

• Reverse Engineer a .pyo python file

  I have 2 .pyo python files that I can convert to .py source files, but they don't compile perfectly as hinted by decompyle's verify. Therefore looking at the source code, I can tell that config.pyo simply had variables in in an array: ADMIN_USERIDS = [116901, 141, 349244, 39, 1159488] I would like to take the original .pyo and disassembly or whatever I need to do inorder to change one of these IDs. Or.... in model.pyo the source indicates a if (productsDeveloperId != self.getUserId()): All I would want to do is hex edit the != to be a == .....Simple with a windows exe program but I can't find a good python disassembler anywhere. Any suggestions are welcomed...I am new to reading bytecode and new to python as well.

• Toshiba eStudio 281c turn off snmp in driver.

  I have a customer with an eStudio 281c colour copier/printer and I'm having an issue with terminal services. Basically, the driver has the ability to query the printer for its configuration over snmp. I've set it to manual rather than auto so it's effectively switched off. Trouble is, when logging into terminal services it's still trying to communicate with the printer. This is an issue because when it fails it then defaults to being a different printer model with a different tray configuration. Users can still print but the settings are wrong. Any ideas?

  We host many websites on one of our two virtual servers. We use tomcat 6 and Java 6. It is an MVC model with a hibernate like layer. The problem is, one of our biggest clients with the most number of members, keeps crashing the server every 6-8 hours(precisely in the mornings when most members login) We have been having this issue for 4 days now. Trying to figure out the problem but we suspect memory leaks. Any suggestions?

• No dual cpu support for VirtualBox with a CPU that doesn't support multicore?

  With VMWare it works fine and I can run multiple cores on a VMWare image. With Sun VirtualBox I can only run 1 cpu on a image. Its annoying. Why does Sun Virtualbox not work the same as VMWare in this respect?? When implementing an RBAC model using an LDAP store (I'm using Apache Directory 1.0.2 as a testbed), some of the actors are obviously mappable to specific objectClasses: Resources - I don't see a clear mapping for this one. applictionEntity seems only tangentially intended for this purpose Permissions - a Permission can be viewed as a single-purpose Role; obviously I'm not thinking of an LDAP permission, as they govern access to LDAP objects and attributes rather than an RBAC permission to a Resource Roles - maps fairly directly to groupOfNames or groupOfUniqueNames, right? Users - person In the past I've seen models where a Resource isn't dealt with in the directory in any fashion, and Permissions and Roles were mapped to Active Directory Groups. Is there a better way to represent these actors? How about a document discussing good mappings and intents of the schema?

• Partitions on Linux and their CHS dependance

  Hello. Recently I came into a problem with partitioning WD20EARS disk (with 4k sectors). I needed partitions to be aligned correctly so I just used parted in "unit s" mode and started all partitions at mod8 sector (drive itself reports, that sector is 512b) and ended all of them at mod8-1 sector. But then I thought, that may be I should take into account also the cylinder boundaries (I've seen some posts on the net where fdisk complains about partitions not to start/end on cylinder boundary). And then... I thought, that if drive lies about it's sector size, may be it's lying about the whole geometry? Should I care about partitions to be aligned against cylinder boundaries? If so, how do I find these boundaries? I guess each drive model can contain different sectors per track/cylinder... Or sector alignment is all I should take care of?

• Acer Aspire 3820TG video card driver issue for Windows 8 Pro

  The model for Acer laptop is ATI mobility Radeon 5650. I am using Windows 8 Pro from MSDN. It was working fine until two days ago when Microsoft pushes an update. After the update, my video card stops working and I only see black screen after loading splash screen. I can go in Safe Mode. I tried to install driver from AMD website but it failed with error message "load detection driver failed". Anyone else have the same issue? Any idea how to solve this? I need to go in Win8 for my latest development.

  Each time it's the same thing, I find one, then I forget the name of it the next time I want to "dive" into such things. I'm looking for a good fractal "visualizer". The kind in which you just select a well-known fractal model (or variations on it), and in which you can then "dive" into, just zooming in or out smoothly, for the cheer pleasure of losing yourself in it. • How to setup a simple self-hosted dynamic DNS server

  I have a small internal network of physical machines running hypervisors, which in turn run several KVM Ubuntu virtual machines. How would I setup an internal dynamic DNS server so that when I run a script to create a new virtual machine, that VM could automatically register itself in the DNS server? Bind seems to be the standard DNS server for Linux, but it seems designed for a much more "static" DNS model. Dynamically updating this would require a complicated script that would have to SSH into the DNS server, edit configuration files, and then restart the server. This doesn't seem like a very elegant solution. Are there better options? I saw a similar question, although they're asking for a solution for a public setting on Amazon. My servers are entirely private, and I don't want to rely on an external VM host or Dynamic DNS provider.

• Upgrading NAS hard drives

  I was thinking of buying a NAS for home-usage. I've never used a NAS or had HDDs set up in Raids. Before I commit myself to moving all my data to a NAS I need to find out how difficult it is to upgrade and replace the NAS' hard drives. Suppose I set up a Raid 1 NAS with two 1TB hdds. At some point in the future I will use up all the space and will have to install two new 2TB hdds. Now I'll need to migrate the data from the old disks to the new ones. Will I have to hook up one of the old disks in a computer and copy all the data back in the NAS? Or can the migration be done using only the NAS? I realize the answer to the question might depend on the NAS model. Being a simple for-home solution I was thinking of getting something along the lines of D-link's 323.

• Sound stopped working on Toshiba Satelite C855

  I have a Toshiba Satallite C855 running Windows 7 with a Realtek High Definition Audio card. Sound worked fine yesterday. Today, my two-year old did something to the machine, and I have no sound. I have adjusted sound through the icon in the lower right corner, and using the Fn keys. I have rebooted. I've verified that there are no external speakers plugged in to the laptop. It seems that this model does not have an external volume control. (If it does I can't find it.) Any ideas?

• Why did windows change the elevation requirements of my AutoHotKey script, and how can I prevent such in the future?

  I was working on an AutoHotKey (AHK) script to create prefab mouse movements for a very simple model viewer. I worked on it for a good hour. I zipped the script, posted it to a forum, and thought "oh hey, I should add bla bla bla to the script". When I returned to the program, the AHK script would not work. I could see the mouse movements working in other programs (notepad, chrome, etc), but not where I had been working the previous hour. After several hours of throwing darts at the troubleshooting wall, I discovered that the fix was to set the AHK.exe to Run as Administrator. The question here are multiple Why did Windows 7, in all it's wisdom, suddenly decide that elevation was necessary in the middle of usage? Can these permission requirements somehow be reverted by, say, removing a key from the registry or something? How can this kind of Windows behaviour be avoided in the future?
