  Einige Operationen im Datenbankumfeld können nicht nur offline sondern auch online durchgeführt werden. Ein wichtiges Kennzeichen einer Online Operation ist dabei, dass Abfragen und DML Operationen während des Ablaufs der Operation (beispielsweise einer Reorganisation) ohne Unterbrechung weiter laufen können. Je nach einplanbarer Maintenance Zeit ist es daher durchaus wünschenswert, gewisse Operationen online durchzuführen. Generell gibt es in jedem Datenbankrelease einige Erweiterungen im Umfeld von Online Operationen. • How can I change the icon in Thunderbird's "New Mail" popup?

  When I recieve new mails in Thunderbird a popup-message tells me about that. Does anyone know where this icon is stored and how it is named? I want to change it that it fits the Faenza-theme. I use Thunderbird 10.0.2 with following addons (all preinstalled): EDS Contact Integration 0.3.9 Global Menu Bar integration 2.0.2 Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher integration 0.8.3 Update: The Addons don't have any influence on the icon - I checked this by disabling them. I downloaded the source code and scanned it for the icon. I found it as comm-release/mail/themes/gnomestripe/mail/icons/new-mail-alert.png: Since I couldn't find this file (I searched for the name) on my PC I guess it is somehow built into Thunderbird and protected against changes. Or should there be an easy solution (not to built your own deb-file)? (In the same manner I'd like to change downloadIcon.png in Firefox: )

• How can I convince a project manager that there is no way to solve all the compatibility issues?

  I have been working on this project for more than a year now, and we are close to release, the project manager wants the product to be perfect and working in every single aspect. I like that and I love working under the perfection idea, but it seems he is delaying the launch too much because of compatibility issues, he wants the product to work in every single installation, every single configuration possible, and in most cases, the product just works without issues when it's on the hands of the client. UPDATE : yes the product doesn't work properly when there are conflicts, for example, other products that don't use guidelines nor standards to load libraries (causes double library load which leads to failure), cache is another example and so on..... but we warn the clients about the conflict before purchasing and help them fixing it after purchasing I've tried to explain it by giving some examples on major products, he understands the situation, but can not believe that it is near impossible (if it is not impossible) to do what he wants. Hope it is clarified enough for the community to answer.

I can give you two reasons, why your client will require IE6 to be supported: While IE6 continues to have above a certain of browsers in use The web application is for a controlled environment that has not been upgraded from IE6 to a later version I personally only use any current or previous version of IE to: To access the Windows Update site As required to test IE compatibility of applications that I write I agree that that the CSS fixes required to support IE6 are undesirable in that they require non-standards compliant CSS. I prefer that my HTML be both XHTML and CSS standards complaint according to the W3C tests. IE9 promises to be not only standards compliant but much better in performance. I am looking forward to its release.

• PCManFM problems: shuts down unexpectedly, would not always start [closed]

  In Lubuntu 12.04 beta (final release in a few days). I do not remember doing something outrageous to my PCManFM but now it has has a lot of problems: "extract here" menu action wouldn't work (this problem never disappears) the program shuts without obvious reason making the desktop empty (the program can be started in run (alt-f2) but this does not alway restore the desktop) would not start sometimes from its /usr/share/applications.desktop file (or the "Aplication Launch Bar") although it starts in run (alt-f2) (the last problem is temporarily solved if the program is closed in task manager and than restarted with alt-f2) I have reinstalled it to no avail. Any ideas?

• How to update all the installed software in Ubuntu without using any PPA?

  I've got many softwares installed. But when the new version is released I'm not getting notified from the application that an update is available. And I found that in most of Ubuntu applications the Update option is not available. I should wait for the next release for an updated version of the software. I've been updating Mozilla using the packages available from their PPA. In ubuntu is there any way to update the softwares without using any PPAs? Please don't recommend Build from source method since I don't like to do all those weird stuff like configuring the things manually etc.

• Black screen on Ubuntu 12.04

  I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and I'm experiencing some problems. The first thing I noticed is that when I click the Workspace switcher all I get is a black screen (I can guess where the different workspaces are located and clicked on them, not a practical solution though). In addition when I lock the screen or suspend the laptop (a Vaio VPCEB4M1E) I get a shifted screen (I see the right most vertical stripe on the left size of the monitor and nothing about all the rest, to put it clearly I can see the gear that allows me to turn the pc off, etc, but not much more..) when I go to the additional driver menu I see the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" are installed and the post-release update version is available. I don't know if the problem is driver related, so before doing anything I'd like to get some suggestions from you guys. Thanks you!

If you're in town and attending JavaOne, mark your calendars : Sunday 2nd, October 2011 - 12:30pm-4:30pm in the Moscone This will be an opportunity to discuss the community status (adoption of Java EE 6, GlassFish 3.1.x) and hear about future plans, mainly around Java EE 7 and the related GlassFish release(s). We'd also like to have several participants share their deployment stories as well as some time for an free-form unconference format and some team building activity. Of course, beyond all the content shared in slides, this should really also be a good excuse to meet folks from the community and from the core GlassFish team at Oracle. • Sortie de Joomla! 3.0.0, responsive design, installation simplifiée et nouveau module de statistiques

  Voilà qui est fait, six mois après la sortie de Joomla! 2.5 : la version 3. Tout d'abord, un mot sur le release cycle : la version 2.5 est une LTS (long term support), pas la 3.0. Cette dernière permet de casser pas mal de choses et ne sera donc pas supportée à long terme : il faudra attendre la 3.5 pour cela (au rythme d'une version mineure tous les six mois). La 2.5 sera supportée jusqu'à la sortie de la 3.5, au moins : il est toujours sûr de l'utiliser, elle sera toujours supportée? mais ne verra pas d'évolution technique. Avec la sortie de cette version 3.0, par contre, c'est le support de la vieillissante 1.5 qui est arrêté. • How to replace avconv with (the real) ffmpeg and have it work right?

  Anyone know how to install the real, current ffmpeg (not the older version by avconv that comes w/ Ubuntu) without having the problems mentioned here? Reasons: Everything works (or so many have written), Use the new syntax, and After some research -- and without getting into the controversy -- I simply believe the packagers made a mistake going with avconv. This is a fix. Apparently this isn't as easy as it should be due to versioning conflicts, and that avconv and ffmpeg can't coexist on the same machine (noted in the above post). Though at least one guide mentions installing ffmpeg locally (~) to achieve coexistence. My release is Precise 12.04.3 LTS, but it appears this would apply to newer ones also.

At the time of this writing (Nov. 2011), the latest stable release is GlassFish 3.1.1 (open source bits, supported Oracle GlassFish Server). The all-in-one Download page also contains links to the developer builds of both 3.1.2 (see plans here) as well as the promoted builds for the 4.0 version (plans) which was used to deliver the keynote "PaaS" demo at the recent JavaOne and Devoxx conferences.

• Facing quality issues

  A workforce management software has complex GUI (for example values in a page depends on the status (closed or open) of other pages). Only latest and near past development has test coverage. During our last release, we received lots of bugs from customer in-spite of 2 weeks of testing Sprint . We don't have dedicated test team. The developers does the unit test & User acceptance test. Every day triggers automated regression test. I am afraid the developers are not testing the entire workflow because its time consuming also not able to automate it because of its complexity. Any suggestions ?. The legacy code (15 yrs development) has less code coverage. How can I improve quality ? Note: Now not possible to hire testers to have independent test team!!
