  • 3 monitors + a TV on a single card with Eyefinity?

    Greetings all, Right now I have a fairly standard video card with 2 DVI ports, one powering my single monitor and another powering my HDTV (with a DVI-to-HDMI cable), which are in separate rooms. I never need to have my monitor and TV active at the same time. I'm looking into a possible computer upgrade. I'd like to know if the following situation is possible. I want three monitors on my desk powered by a single card, which I hear these new Eyefinity cards are capable of. But, I also want my TV hooked up. At any given time, I would want either my three monitors active or my TV active, never both at once. So it seems to me it might be possible to do this all a single 3-port card with a splitter of some kind. Is this possible? What hardware would I need? Thanks!

  • Merging partitions and removing windows of one partition

    I have two partitions on my laptop, I created a new one when installing windows 8 pro because windows 7 wouldn't upgrade to it for some odd reason. The main partition, which has 631 GB ( has windows 7 installed on it, and the second partition is 49.9 GB and has windows 8 installed on it. What I need to do is remove windows 7 from the other one (Yeah its dual booting), make it so it boots straight into windows 8, without showing the dual boot screen, and also merge the two drives together. Only problem is, I have no idea how to do this. Please don't use complete lamens terms, I am a software developer so I know at least a bit about computers.   • AutoCAD 11 and network file shares

    Small network of perhaps half a dozen engineers, currently working on local copies of AutoCAD project files, which are then copied back up to file server (2008 Standard, 1-2 year old Dell server hardware, RAID 5 SAS disks (10k? not positive)) at end of day. To me, this sounds horribly inefficient and error-prone, however, I've been told that "AutoCAD and network files = bad idea" and this is gospel. The network is currently 10/100 (perhaps this is the reason for the "gospel") but all the workstations are within 2 years old and have GbE NICs so an upgrade of the core switch is long overdue. However, I know certain applications don't like network access, at all, and any sign of latency or disruption brings the whole thing crashing down. Anyone care to chime in?

  • Force initial Google Drive sync with a non-empty folder?

    I upgraded my iMac with an SSD last night and restored from a Time Capsule backup. Everything is now working substantially zippier and overall better, with the exception of one thing: Google Drive refuses to continue to sync with the Google Drive folder that it'd been using before the upgrade, and I ultimately ended up having to just delete the folder and let it resync from scratch to get past its stubborn error (alternatively, I suppose I could've simply moved the contents, set the path to the now-empty folder, then moved them back). Is there any way to get past this particular issue (for future reference), or is it something that Google put in place to ensure that a new user doesn't go and specify their root drive as the backup destination?

  • Silverlight RichTextBox Disable Mouse Selection

    I am writing a custom control based on RichTextBox that needs the ability to process MouseLeftButtonDown events but must not allow user-initiated selection (I'm doing everything programmatically). I tried setting a flag in MouseLeftButtonDown to track dragging and then continuously setting the RichTextBox.Selection to nothing in the MouseMove event but the move event isn't fired until after I release the mouse button. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks.

    Hi, Since I switched to CEDET as shipped with recent emacs release (23.2), CEDET does not work reliably anymore. For example I am no longer able to regenerate an EDE project. After looking aroud, it seems that all CEDET templates are missing from the tarball. Does anyone know how I can workaround this ? Regards

  • What is a usable throughput for a home media server

    I am looking to setup a home server that will act as a media server. This will include both video (possibly HD) and audio. The clients will be a fun mix of hardware but that is a different question. What I want to know is what is the minimum throughput for streaming video without hitches? Is there a "sweet" spot for throughput (price vs. throughput)? I am determining my budget for this "upgrade" and I need to evaluate wether or not upgrading to a 1 Gbps home LAN is required. Sure, it would be sweet and easily handle the traffic but I don't want to do it unless it is necesary.

  • Wi-Fi performance in Windows 8 RP on a MacBook Air (mid 2011)

    I was able to install the Boot Camp Windows software using the executable that it provided, and there are no unrecognized or unknown devices in Device Manager. Wi-Fi works but it seems to be limited to an extremely slow 1.5Mbits. Network Center reports an 802.11n connection (at 65Mbps usually) but transfers never reach above about 200kB/s. Being limited to 1/20th of the connection speed of my internet service is quite frustrating. Does anybody experience the same issue? I have been trying to identify the Broadcom Wi-Fi chipset and a driver that I could try to upgrade to but I have made very little progress on Google on this front.

  • How to correctly use ABPersonViewController with ABPeoplePickerNavigationController to view Contact

    I'm attempting to add a feature to my app that allows the user to select a contact from an ABPeoplePickerNavigationController, which then displays an ABPersonViewController corresponding to the contact they picked. At that point, I want the user to be able to click on a contact's phone number and have my app respond with custom behavior. I've got the ABPeoplePickerNavigationController working fine, but I'm running into a problem displaying the ABPersonViewController. I can get the ABPersonViewController to animate onto the screen just fine, but it only displays the contact's photo, name, and company name. None of the contact's other fields are displayed. I'm using the 'displayedProperties' element in the ABPersonViewController to tell the program to display phone numbers. This creates some strange behavior; when I select a contact that has no phone numbers assigned, the contact shows up with "No Phone Numbers" written in the background (as you'd expect), but when selecting a contact that does have a phone number, all I get is a blank contact page (without the "No Phone Numbers" text).   • Samba 3.3 or later on Slackware 12 - how do I make this happen?

    I'm trying to upgrade the Samba server on a Slackware 12 box to serve as PDC for Windows 7 32bit machines (it now has a 3.0.3 and does the job for Win XP machines, but 7 refuses to join the domain - I'm posting this after having tried a few dozen hacks on the windows registry). I'm a newbie on Slackware (I usually dwell in Ubuntu) so I may be going about this the wrong way but this is what I've done so far: The Samba wiki has a couple of hacks for the registry and also seems to suggest a version later than 3.3 (though not in so many words) http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7 Having scoured the net for later Samba binaries for Slackware 12 and gotten precisely nowhere, I decided that maybe I could compile the blessed thing. But I keep on getting compiler errors. I'm using this SlackBuild script http://ftp.twaren.net/Linux/slackware/slackware-current/source/n/samba/samba.SlackBuild Is there a better way to make this happen? (without upgrading the base system? it has so many finely tuned things running that I don't want to mess with the rest of the setup).

  • RHEL 4.8 / Sybase 12.5.4 64 bit install error - I have libaio i368 installed I need libaio x86_64 in

    I am trying to install Sybase ASE 12.5.4 64 bit. I know the machine has a 64 bit processor It is giving me an error during install saying: "error while loading shared libraries: libaio.s0.1" I run the command: rpm -q --qf '%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE} (%{ARCH})\n' libaio Which returns: libaio-0.3.105-2 (i386) I found a src rpm for libaio-0.3.102. I followed the steps to install which included using make. It appeared to install without error. But when I run the rpm -q command again I still only see the i386 version installed. Not really sure where to go from here. Ideally I would like to find a regular rpm of libaio x86_64 for RHEL 4.8. If I were to find one would I upgrade the package that is already there? Would I remove and install the new one. Or would I install and two separate version of the library?

I've checked Amazon.com (no book yet on MVC2), ScottGu's Blog (only 2 short posts), ASP.NET/MVC website (they've only posted what are alreadi in the ScottGu's blog).   • What are the benefits of full VDI over Remote Desktop Services?

    We're talking about piloting VDI here, but the more research I do, the more it seems like it would make more sense just to upgrade and expand our TS (RDS) environment. I feel like you can pull off more sessions per core on RDS than on any VDI solution I've looked at. Is this the case? Is there a decision matrix anywhere describing the benefits of using full virtualized desktops over using a remote desktop farm? We need good video performance for clinical imaging - will this work better on one infrastructure or the other? (Does this question have a specific enough answer for it to be on SF? Regardless, I feel like having this here will be helpful for someone in the future...)

  • Windows Server Backup 2012 error - "The version does not support this version of the file format."

    I'm trying out Windows Server 2012, specifically Windows Server Backup, as it would be a very useful way to see us through until we can upgrade our 'real' backup system. I'm backing up to a network share, and a Server 2008 WSB works fine. On the 2012 server however, I get an error: Backup of volume \?\Volume{298d1a7d-f80f-11e1-93e8-806e6f6e6963}\ has failed. The version does not support this version of the file format. It's a VHDX written by WSB, so I'm not sure what version it's complaining about. I can see a whole bunch of files in the destination, so I don't think it's a simple authentication issue, but I only get about 8Mb of VHDX written.

  • trouble backing up large mysql database

    I have a wordpress MU database with something like 10,000+ tables for various user's blogs. I need to upgrade wordpress MU to newest version, but want to backup the DB before hand. PHPMyAdmin fails to even load the page when i click export. Ive tried going into the server (windows) and using dos command line: mysqldump -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD> BACKUP.sql but it hangs for a minute and gives me the error: error 23: out of resources when opinging file '.\USERNAME\wp_1037_links.MYD' (Errorcode: 24) when using LOCK Tables What am i doing wrong, or should i be doing? Is PHPMyAdmin right for something this size? Is there a better way of doing this than the two methods i tried? **Note that this is not my site, so any suggestions as to the setup of the DB ill have to run by the owner. Im just here for WP related crap, this is kind of out of scope for what i was brought on to do.

  • Semi-random clicking sound from Macbook Pro

    There is an occasional click sound coming from my Macbook Pro (17", 2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo) I upgraded to Snow Leopard recently, but the computer was also in for service about week before that, so I can't be certain the OS upgrade is related. The sound has no set interval and frequency varies from rare to every few seconds. I can alleviate the sound by turning up the fan speed with smcFanControl. Turning the right fan up about half way seems to be sufficient. Unfortunately, turning up the left fan also causes the right to turn on, because the sound seems to be slightly more to the left. The cause seems to be either a fan or heat-related.

    When I try to inspect DataSet by standard DataSet visualizer I see this error "could not load this custom viewer". I wrote simple dataset visualizer, but error throws anyway too. On other computers with the same configuration visualizer show without any errors. OS: Windows 7 x86 (Release) VS: Visual Studio 2010 RC has somebody any ideas? I reinstall VS with no effect.

  • PowerDNS 3+ - Recursive queries for subdomains

    We are trying to find functionality in the PDNS 3.x that existed in PDNS < 2.9.2.5. Whereby if we have a domain in the database backend with records, if a query is unable to resolve a subdomain it would then query the recursor setup in the pdns.conf file. We have found that on Centos 6.x the rpm packages are the latest verison of pdns where by 5.x available was pdns-2.9.22-4.el5. The pdns-2.9.22-4.el5 package works as expected but when upgrading servers to Centos 6.x we loose this required functionality. pdns-backend-mysql-2.9.22-4.el5.rpm fails to install on Centos 6.x due to mysql libs that aren't availble, this is caused by an upgrade in the mysql version whereby the pdns backend mysql requires older mysql libs then what is available on centos 6.x .   • Drawing performance with CGImageCreateWithJPEGDataProvider?

    I've actually curious about this for the iPhone. I am getting an MJPEG stream from a server and trying to render it natively on the iphone (without the use of safari class). Reasons for this is because the safari class while CAN render MJPEG natively, does not do so at the framerate I would like. So I tried drawing it natively, but I've come up with performance issues, namely a syncing issue between what I'm getting from the server and what I am able to draw onto the screen of the phone. (There should be a little lag, but the drift gets really bad, which is what I want to avoid). So I have a connection set up to my server and I do get the JPEGS.
