Please, recommend network bandwidth limiter for windows which can be controlled from command line. No need for fancy options, only limiting of overall up and down traffic of a host required.
I have somehow managed to half uninstall a windows service I was developing.
In no particular order
It won't delete if I use sc delete servicename
It gives an exception using installutil /u pathtoservice.exe
"specified service does not exist as an installed service"
And using the installer/uninstaller obviously doesn't work either
It's no longer in the Services listing
It's not shown if I use sc query
And I have rebooted
I don't know what else to do, but something still exists, because attempting to install fails because it already exists.
Please help.
I have a number of Windows 7 machines on an isolated development network. There is no internet access from this network.
Winodws 7 displays a yellow warning triangle on the network connection icon with a warning "No Internet Access".
Is there anyway to disable this warning - I know the internet is inaccessable and always will be.
My Windows Vista Desktop icon are all gone and I cant set them again! Is there any registry key to show them back? I used regsvr32 /u shell32.dll command but still nothing shows? what should I do?
It would be so useful, and not very difficult, because in fact I have Directory Opus installed (a very powerful windows explorer alternative) and it does exactly that, but only by double-clicking the desktop, not the taskbar.
Similar options with middle-click would also be nice, such as scrolling the taskbar (maybe cycling directly through the Alt-Tab window).
7 Task Tweaker is close to this, actually, but it doesn't do what I would like.
I've successfully installed Windows 8 x64 Release Preview on a 2010 Macbook Air (4GB/256GB). I was also able to install the Apple Boot Camp tools without incident, but the computer will intermittently freeze up completely (need a forced shutdown) for no apparent reason. As such, there is no logging information to help me troubleshoot this any further.
I have no other software installed at this point; only the latest updates from Microsoft. Any ideas?
hi, i have a few programs that check if file exist, and if its old version delete him and paste the new one. However under Windows 7 Professional i can't delete the file some System process is always restoring it (same with the dll files) and as you can imagine a lot of programs are crashing because of that behaviour. So WHAT SERVICE/PROCESS can lock/recreate/restore files? I have disabled System Recovery.
Anyone have any experience with Windows Defender? Is it a replacement for antivirus software or something else to run alongside?
We are looking for something that isnt as bloated as McAfee 8.5i.
Hello,
I've installed windows 7 home in portuguese and now I don't have the speech recognition.

I recall once stumbling on a program that could take multiple application windows and wrap them inside a large window with a tabbed interface. One use of this, for example, would be to wrap multiple instances of Excel into one window, and thus icon on the taskbar.
I couldn't find mention of this program via Google, because of the multiple meanings of the word "window". Does anyone remember, or know of, such a program?
I am using gprint as a shell call to print pdf files. I have to install the network printer first, but the program runs under a different account. Is there anyway to install a network printer under Windows XP so that it is available to all accounts on the machine?
Is there a way, using Windows GPO, to set up a list of "default" mapped drives that can be applied to a group of users?
I runs small network and would like to make sure that certain groups of users (like Sales or Support) have the same network shares mapped to the same drive letters irrespective of which PC they log onto.
This would make the setup of new users easier and allow the centralised administration of the network locations shared.
Any links to examples and/or step-by-step guides would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a method/utility to actively resize the partitions on a dual-boot macbook air, without destroying the contents? I made the Windows Partition too small initially, and all the places I've looked have stated that resizing now using bootcamp will destroy all data on the Win7 Partition.
I would prefer free, but I'm open to a reasonably priced utility that can grow the Win7 partition into the available space (I can use bootcamp to shrink the OSX partition without any problems).
Hi!
I accidentally deleted a volume in windows disk management. Is there an easy way to undo that action? Or do I have to use a file recovery tool?
Thanks a lot!
This seems like a simple task, but I need to copy files from my host machine to my virtual PC. I am running Windows 7 Virtual PC.
I usually use \tsclient, but that is not working.
How to enable a particular user the possibility to create symlinks in Windows 7?
I searched "Group Policy" and google, but haven't found it.
BTW: Is there a way to search through everything in Group Policy Editor? The filters only seem to work on particular subtrees. Actually I never found anything using the filters.
TIA
I'm downloading some files through a software (metatrader) and save it with the file dialog under a subdirectory of the software (in program files), but under explorer I can't see the files.
Where did Windows 7 store them ?
My Windows Vista Desktop icon are all gone and I cant set them again!! I do everything but nothing happen. Is there any registry key to show them back? I use regsvr32 /u shell32.dll command but still nothing show? what should I do?
my friend's company has a win2008 server, not R2, and it's really slow, it has 8G ram, has a SAP business one running on it, and it's also an AD, DHCP, DNS server, has Kaspersky 6 AV running as well. CPU usage is constantly 100%, physical memory is around 70%-90% even close everything, disable AV, if check processes, taskmgr.exe and windows explorer use like 40% each sometimes, do you have any suggestion what could be
I tried to install windows 7 on a laptop with XP.
On the Completing Installation stage the process stuck.
I restarted, tried to reinstall but got a same result.
What to do?
How can I have recovery partition at the HDD end? My aim is to have data partition installed on fastest sectors of my hard drive, as I don't really care if restoring operations are slow...
During Windows installation, when I create a partition, I get immediately created EFI and recovery ones just before the actual data partition. EFI position is good, I want my PC boot fast, but I want to move partitions I don't care about speed. I've also considered GParted, but I think I'm not able to use it :P
