• Administrator's shortcut to batch file with double quoted parameters

  Take an excruciatingly simple batch file: echo hi pause Save that as test.bat. Now, make a shortcut to test.bat. The shortcut runs the batch file, which prints "hi" and then waits for a keypress as expected. Now, add some argument to the target of the shortcut. Now you have a shortcut to: %path%\test.bat some args The shortcut runs the batch file as before. Now, run the shortcut as administrator. (This is on Windows 7 by the way.) You can use either right-click - Run as Administrator, or go to the shortcut's properties and check the box in the advanced section. Tell UAC that it's okay and once again the shortcut runs the batch file as expected. Now, change the arguments in the target of the shortcut to add double quotes: %path%\test.bat "some args" Now try the shortcut as administrator. It doesn't work this time! A command window pops up and and disappears too fast to see any error. I tried adding test.log 2&1 to the shortcut, but no log is created in this case. Try running the same shortcut (with the double quotes) but not as Administrator. It runs the batch file fine. So, it seems the behavior is not because of the double quoted parameters, and it's not because it's run as Administrator. It's some weird combination of the two. I also tried running the same command from an administrator's command window. This ran the batch file as expected without error. Running the shortcut from the command window spawned a new command window which flashed and went away. So apparently the issue is caused by a combination of administrator, the shortcut, and the double quotes. I'm totally stumped, does anyone have any idea what's going on?

  I'm using Apache commons HTTPClient with Apache Axis 1.5 and I'm trying to log the messages exchanged when making Web Service calls by enabling org.apache.commons.httpclient to DEBUG and httpclient.wire to DEBUG. However, this doesn't work. Mentioned below is my log4j.xml - can someone help me? • PyQt WebKit CSS background image not showing

  I'm making a Twitter client with PyQt, which uses WebKit to draw the tweet list. Now I'm trying to use CSS to set a background image in the WebKit widget - but the image won't show up. This is the relevant part of the CSS: body { background-image: url("gradient2.jpg"); } The file name is correctly spelled, and it is located in the same directory as the Python program, which is also where I start the program from (so the image file should be in PWD). To check if WebKit somehow looks for the image in the wrong directory anyway, I ran my program through strace, which creates a log of all system calls made by the program. And surprisingly, the name of the image does not appear in the log - so it seems as if WebKit doesn't even try to find it. To verify that my CSS is used at all by WebKit, I tried changing it to a solid background color instead of an image: body { background: #CCFFCC; } And that works. So I know that the CSS is used, that's not the problem. Could it be that WebKit refuses to use "ordinary" files in the filesystem, and that I somehow have to create some sort of "resource" file containing my image in Qt Designer?

  Hi, I am working on an ASP.NET web app using Visual Studio 2008 and a third-party library. Things are fine in my development environment. Things are also good if the web app is deployed in Debug configuration. However, when it is deployed in Release mode, SerializationExceptions appear intermittently, breaking other functionality. • Using inotify-tools and ruby to push uploads to Cloud Files

  Hi Guys, I wrote a few scripts to monitor an uploads directory for changes, then capture the file uploaded/changed and push it to cloud files using a ruby script. This all works well 95% of the time, the only exception is that occasionally, ruby fails with a 'file does not exist' exception. I am assuming that the ruby 'push' script is being called before the file is 100% in its new location, so the script is being called a little prematurely. I tried adding a little function to my script to check if the file exists, if it doesn't, sleep 5 then try again, but this seems to snowball and eventually dies.   Hi, I am trying to use ActiveMerchant to make a Paypal Recurring transaction call. I used the patch here: http://blog.vuzit.com/2008/08/01/paypal-website-payments-pro-us-with-recurring-billing-and-activemerchant/ and I'm stuck on this here: ActiveMerchant::Billing::PaypalGateway.pem_file = File.read('paypal_cert.pem') I am fairly sure the pem file is correctly downloaded from paypal. The error I receive is: /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/activemerchant-1.5.1/lib/active_merchant/lib/connection.rb:129:in initialize': Neither PUB key nor PRIV key:: nested asn1 error (OpenSSL::PKey::RSAError) from /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/activemerchant-1.5.1/lib/active_merchant/lib/connection.rb:129:innew' from calling the commit method from line 49 of paypal_pro_recurring. I simply have 2 files - paypal_pro_recurring.rb from the tutorial and paypalTest.rb which I wrote and simply requires all files and calls the function. I hope the error isn't something stupid like I must require from an environment file or something. Thanks all!

• Heroku Rails Internal Server Error

  Hello. I got a 500 Internal Sever error when I try to deploy my rails app on heroku. It works fine on my local machine, so i'm not sure what's wrong here. • Lock Question - 'U' lock vs. 'X' lock

  I have a couple questions concerning Update (U) locks and Exclusive (X) locks. 1) Am I correct that an 'X' lock is put on a resource when the resource is about to get updated? 2) I'm a little fuzzy on U locks. Am I correct that a U lock is applied when a resource is read and SQL Server thinks it might need to update the resource later? If this is correct, would a 'U' lock only get applied when a read is being done within the context of a transaction? I guess I'm trying to understand under what circumstances SQL Server thinks it might need to update later a row it just read now. Thanks - Randy

• Linq to SQL not inserting data onto the DB

  Hello! I have a little / weird behaviour here and Im looking over internet and SO and I didn't find a response. I have to admit that this is my first time using databases, I know how to use them with SQL but never used it actually. Anyway, I have a problem with my app inserting data, I just created a very simple project for testing that and no solution yet. I have an example database with Sql Server Id - int (identity primary key) Name - nchar(10) (not null) The table is called "Person", simple as pie. I have this: static void Main(string[] args) { var db = new ExampleDBDataContext {Log = Console.Out}; var jesus = new Person {Name = "Jesus"}; db.Persons.InsertOnSubmit(jesus); db.SubmitChanges(); var query = from person in db.Persons select person; foreach (var p in query) { Console.WriteLine(p.Name); } } As you can see, nothing extrange. It show Jesus in the console. But if you see the table data, there is no data, just empty. I comment the object creation and insertion and the foreach doesn't print a thing (normal, there is no data in the database) The weird thing is that I created a row in the database manually and the Id was 2 and no 1 (Was the linq really playing with the database but it didn't create the row?) • Need assistance with Kohana 3 and catch all route turning into a 404 error

  Based on this documentation, I've implemented a catch all route which routes to an error page.   hi all, i want to format date to string in hql select, for example i have purchasing data with transaction date in it: class Purchase { private Date datePurchase } and i want to select date in a certain format, for example yyyyMMdd, can i do that in hql? actually i can iterate through all purchase data returned by query, and start to format the date using SimpleDateFormat, but i don't want do that, i want to do it in hql, is it posible? fyi, i just want to return the id and date string only, not all Purchase field. thak you all for any help.

• Filtering log4net on method name - can't quite get it

  I'm using log4net to log my web app's progress, using Log4PostSharp to AOP-injectify all methods. This has the desired effect of logging (almost) everything and is fine. I now have a requirement to log JUST Page_Load methods to a file / console. I can obviously hamstring the log4postsharp class to do that, but then I'd be losing all the other logging. I've been looking at filters in log4net, starting with the StringMatch filter, but that only looks at the message being logged, and I'm after the method name. This put me onto the PropertyFilter, but still with no joy. My log4net.config snippet is thus: <appender name="RollingLogFileAppender" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender"> <filter type="log4net.Filter.PropertyFilter"> <key value="LocationInfo.MethodName"/> <stringToMatch value="Page_Load"/> </filter> <file value="d:\\xxxx\\yyyyy\\zzzzLog"/> As you can see, I'm trying to key into the MethodName of the logging event via LocationInfo, but I'm still getting everything logged. • Strange rare out-of-order data received using Indy

  We're having a bizarre problem with Indy10 where two large strings (a few hundred characters each) that we send out one after the other are appearing at the other end intertwined oddly. This happens extremely infrequently. Each string is a complete XML message terminated with a LF and in general the READ process reads an entire XML message, returning when it sees the LF. The call to actually send the message is protected by a critical section around the call to the IOHandler's writeln method and so it is not possible for two threads to send at the same time. (We're certain the critical section is implemented/working properly). This problem happens very rarely. The symptoms are odd...when we send string A followed by string B what we received at the other end (on the rare occasions where we have failure) is the trailing section of string A by itself (i.e., there's a LF at the end of it) followed by the leading section of string A and then the entire string B followed by a single LF. We've verified that the "timed out" property is not true after the partial read - we log that property after every read that returns content. Also, we know there are no embedded LF characters in the string, as we explicitly replace all non-alphanumeric characters in the string with spaces before appending the LF and sending it. We have log mechanisms inside the critical sections on both the transmission and receiving ends and so we can see this behavior at the "wire". We're completely baffled and wondering (although always the lowest possibility) whether there could be some low-level Indy issues that might cause this issue, e.g., buffers being sent in the wrong order....very hard to believe this could be the issue but we're grasping at straws. • Android: Determine when an app is being finalized vs destroyed for screen orientation change

  Hi all, I am relatively new to the Android world and am having some difficultly understanding how the whole screen orientation cycle works. I understand that when the orientation changes from portrait to landscape or vice versa the activity is destroyed and then re-created. Thus all the code in the onCreate function will run again. So here's my situation: I have an app that I am working on where it logs into a website, retrieves data, and displays it to the user. While this is all done in background threads, the code that starts these threads is in the onCreate function. Now, the problem lies in that whenever the user changes the screen orientation, the app will log in, retrieve the data, and display it to the user again. What I would like to do is set a boolean that tells the app if it is logged in or not so it knows whether or not it must log in when the onCreate function is called. So long as the app is in memory the HttpClient will exist and contain the cookies from logging the user in but when the app is killed by the system those will go away. So I would assume that I need to do something like setting the logged in boolean to false when the app is killed but since onDestroy is called when the screen is rotated how is this possible? I also looked into the finalize function and isFinishing() but those seem to not be working. Shorter version: How can I distinguish between when an app is being killed from memory from when an activity is being rotated and different code for each event? Any help or a point in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  Rolling comments inside a log4net file Is it possible to roll the data inside the log file? Is that possible (I do not see it in the documentation)?

  i hope i'm just doing something wrong here. Ideally i'm trying to open the connection, open a transaction execute a ton of prebuilt sqlstatements (with parameters) against this connection then close the connection. ideally all in the same batch. It's easy enough to wrap this all in a for loop, however i'd like to use the forEach function of the list generic to set the connection as it'll probably be faster than my implementation of calling List.Item(i) in the loop but i get some strange errors. • How do I subscribe to a MSMQ queue but only "peek" the message in .Net?

  We have a MSMQ Queue setup that receives messages and is processed by an application. We'd like to have another process subscribe to the Queue and just read the message and log it's contents. I have this in place already, the problem is it's constantly peeking the queue. CPU on the server when this is running is around 40%. The mqsvc.exe runs at 30% and this app runs at 10%. I'd rather have something that just waits for a message to come in, get's notified of it, and then logs it without constantly pooling the server. • How to get the stacktrace in a mobile device?

  I'm getting a NullPointerException in a Nokia S40. I want to know what is causing this exception. The device shows: NullPointerException java/lang/NullPointerException This error only occurs in the device, running in the emulator the application works fine. I use microlog to debug my application. But the application works fine if the log is enabled. Is there a way to get the stack trace when I get this NullPointerException? I don't need all details like the line number just which method cause this exception. UPDATE: I installed the same application in another Nokia S40 and the same error didn't occur. • configure batch to sent minute info instead of entire stdout

  Hi all, I am working on a RedHat server along with several other users. We use the batch utility to set a job queue. Some of the programs that I use write stuff to stdout during the run, with info on who much data has been processed to far and estimated time until completion etc. batch -q z at> myScript -i somefile -o someotherfile By default, the batch util send an email to me (since I configured it using .forward) with the entire output from stdout. Since the scripts writes something to stdout a few times each second, the amount of log-stuff I get from a two-day script can be ˜20 Mbs. Clearly not what I want. I can of course pipe stdout to a file like so batch -q z at> myScript -i somefile -o someotherfile > myscript.stdout.log but then I get a blank e-mail from the util. So to my question: Is it possible to configure batch so that it sends time the job started and ended, or run time or some oth valuable information to me, instead of a 20 Mb mail or a blank mail? Note that the scripts that I use are binaries and I cannot customize the code to output less info in the first place (which would be the optimal solution I guess). Thanks /Daniel

  Whenever I try to import my Eclipse project to Android Studio I get the following error : You are using an old, unsupported version of Gradle. Please use version 1.8 or greater. Please point to a supported Gradle version in the project's Gradle settings or in the project's Gradle wrapper (if applicable.) Consult IDE log for more details (Help | Show Log) Im using Android Studio 0.3 and Ubuntu, I also tried it on a Windows 8 box with fresh install but getting the same error. I'm using default gradle wrapper and I tried checking and unchecking auto import option. Is this a bug? How can I get around it. How do I update gradle to 1.8 or check the current gradle version?
