  • Desigining problem in asp.net?

    - by Surya sasidhar
hi, in my application i am displaying a image (image size is 90px width,90px height) and below that i displaying title of the image in data list control (horizontal display). i used table (tags) in source code. the image and title will display dynamically from database. my problem is when title is too long it is disturbing my design, when title is too long it should come down, the title should same size as the picture if it is too long it come down in second line. for example the below is a image and below that image title -------------- | | | | | | | | | | |_____________| surya sasidhar rao the above image title is too long. the letters "rao" should come in second line. -------------- | | | | | | | | | | |_____________| surya sasidhar rao this is the desing i want. how can i get it. this is my source code ' CommandName="Play" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("VideoName")+"|"+Eval("videoid")+","+Eval("username")%' Width ="90px" Height ="90px" / ' CommandName="title" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("VideoName")+"|"+Eval("videoid")+","+Eval("username")%' ' '

  • ASP.NET MVC2 Data Access Layer

    - by Paul
For a small/medium sized project I'm trying to figure out what is the 'ideal' way to have a domain layer and data access layer. My opinions on coupling tend to be more towards the view that the domain models should not be tightly coupled with the database layer, in other words the data access layer shouldn't actually know anything about the domain objects. I've been looking at Linq-to-sql and it wants to use its own models that it creates, and so it ends up VERY tightly coupled. Whilst I love the way you use linq-to-sql in code I really don't like the way it wants to make its own domain objects. What are some alternatives that I should consider? I tried use NHibernate but I did not like the way I had to use to query and get different objects. I honestly love the syntax and way you use linq, I just don't want it to be so tightly coupled to domain objects.

  • Import Excel 2007 into SQL 2000 using Classic ASP and ADO

    - by jeff
I have the following code from a legacy app which currently reads from an excel 2003 spreadsheet on a server, but I need this to run from my machine which uses excel 2007. When I debug on my machine ADO does not seem to be reading the spreadsheet. I have checked all file paths etc. and location of spreadsheet that is all fine. I've heard that you cannot use the jet db engine for excel 2007 anymore? Can someone confirm this? What do I need to do to get this to work? Please help! set obj_conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") obj_conn.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _ "Data Source=" & Application("str_folder") & "CNS43.xls;" & _ "Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;""" set obj_rs_cns43 = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet") obj_rs_cns43.ActiveConnection = obj_conn obj_rs_cns43.CursorType = 3 obj_rs_cns43.LockType = 2 obj_rs_cns43.Source = "SELECT * FROM [CNS43$]" obj_rs_cns43.Open

  • ASP.Net UpdatePanel, want to have html-tag as a parameter

    - by Nordis
This is my problem, I have one textbox, one button and one label. Everything is inside an updatepanel. Let's say I want to test if a valid html-tag is entered in the textbox when I press the button. In the code-behind I have a method for that. Everythings works just fine, except when I actually enter a html-tag in my textbox. If I test < html, it works. But not if I test . So my question is, doesn't the updatepanel accept html-tags as parameters? Because my breakpoint for the button_click doesn't triggers. Sorry for my bad english.. :)

  • ASP.NET Timer Event

    - by K Ratnajyothi
protected void SubmitButtonClicked(object sender, EventArgs e) { System.Timers.Timer timer = new System.Timers.Timer(); --- --- //line 1 get_datasource(); String message = "submitted."; ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this.Page, this.GetType(), "popupAlert", "popupAlert(' " + message + " ');", true); timer.Interval = 30000; timer.Elapsed += new ElapsedEventHandler(timer_tick); // Only raise the event the first time Interval elapses. timer.AutoReset = false; timer.Enabled = true; } } protected void timer_tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { //line 2 get_datasource(); GridView2.DataBind(); } The problem is with the data in the grid view that is being displayed... since when get_datasource which is after line 1 is called the updated data is displayed in the grid view since it is a postback event but when the timer event handler is calling the timer_tick event the get_datasource function is called but after that the updated data is not visible in the grid view. It is nnot getting updated since the timer_tick is not a post back event

  • ASP.NET HTTPHandler

    - by josephj1989
    I have an HttpHandler class (implements IHttphandler) where the path defined for the handler in web.config is *.jpg. I am requesting a Jpg image in my page. Within the HTTP Handler I am writing to a file in the filesystem. By mistake I was trying to write to a non existant directory. This should have thrown an exception but the execution simply proceeds.Ofcourse no file is writte. But if I give a proper directory the file is written correctly.Is there anything special about HttpHandler Exceptions. See part of the code public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context){ File.WriteAllLines(context.Request.ApplicationPath+@"\"+"resul.log",new string[]{"Entered JPG Handler"});

  • Asp.net Response.Redirect Error

    - by andrewWinn
My team and I are working on a portal applicaiton. When a user requests a page, we get a page object (contianing permissions, actual file to use and what not). We then do a Response.Redirect to "~/Default.aspx". The crazy thing is that when the code to validate access and what not is called from a button click event from within an ajax update panel, response.redirect is pasting a "&f2" or a "/" into the url. So rather than http://localhost/Default.aspx, the webbrowser is being redirected to http://localhost/%f2Default.aspx, and is subsequently returning a 404 error. HttpContext.Current.Response.Redirect("~/Default.aspx", false); Anyone have an idea of why this would occur? And it only happens when the click event fires inside an update panel.

  • Seperation of notification confirmation+storage and handling notification asp.net mvc

    - by bastijn
After a payment from my web application to a 3rd party the 3rd party sends, next to the direct confirmation message, a notification message. This notification message is stored in my database for future use and I have to send a notification confirmed back. For this purpose I currently use a: return Content("received") Which is standard protocol for the service. Currently, I process the incoming notification by first storing it, than handling it (updating account credits etc in my application) and in the end sending a response. This all works well. But I want to seperate handling the notification and storing+responding to the webservice. The problem is that the "return Content()" is ending my controller method and therefore I cannot simply first send the confirmation message back to the webservice and than call my handle_Notification() method. So the solution would be to replace the return Content() part with something equal which doesn't involve a "return", is this possible, as I do not now the complete URL calling I cannot easily create a simple HTTP POST web request (I tried, might have made an error but did not work). Another solution would be to have some kind of timer or listener which either periodically checks for new notifications in the Database which have to be handled or a listener listening to DB new notifications or something. What is the standard procedure on this, if any?

  • Asp.Net MVC does automatic model validation for DateTime but no others

    - by MattSlay
I'm using MVC 2 with some Models from a LinqToSql project that I built. I see that when I post back to a Controller Action after editing a form that has a DateTime field from the Model, the MVC Html.ValidationMessageFor() helper will nicely display an error beside the Date text box. This seems to happen automatically when the you test ModelState.IsValid() in the Controller Action, as if the MVC model binding automatically knows that the DateTime field cannot be empty. My question is... I have some other string fields in these LinqToSql generated classes that are Not-Nullable (marked as Not Nullable in Sql Server which passes thourgh to the LinqToSql generated classes), so why doesn't Mr. MVC pick up on those as well and display a "Required" message in the ValidationMessageFor() placeholders I have added for those fields? Sure, I have successfully added the MetadataType(typeof) buddy classes to cover these Non-nullable string fields, but it sure does seem redundant to add all this metadata in buddy classes when the LinqToSql generated classes already contain enough info that MVC could sniff out. It MVC validation works with DateTime automatically, why not these Not-nullable fields too?

  • Simple list based output instead of style and javascript ridden ASP.net webforms menu

    - by Mike
Hi All, Is there a way (or component i could use) to output a simple menu. I just need it output as a list, like you would use for a simple superfish menu. I've looked at the menu control and cssadapters (css friendly) which kind of works, except there is a lot of styles and javascript output with the menu which is destroying the look. If I can't find something that outputs a clean list, my next option is to craft some jquery to delete these styles. This is not my preferred option. If you have a better idea, please let me know. Just something that looks like this: <ul> Main Menu <li> hi </li> <li> second menu <ul> <li> <a href="hi.aspx"> in second menu </a></li> <li> <a href="rabbits.aspx"> hi there </a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> Thanks.

  • ASP.NET MVC ajax chat

    - by nccsbim071
I built an ajax chat in one of my mvc website. everything is working fine. I am using polling. At certain interval i am using $.post to get the messages from the db. But there is a problem. The message retrieved using $.post keeps on repeating. here is my javascript code and controller method. var t; function GetMessages() { var LastMsgRec = $("#hdnLastMsgRec").val(); var RoomId = $("#hdnRoomId").val(); //Get all the messages associated with this roomId $.post("/Chat/GetMessages", { roomId: RoomId, lastRecMsg: LastMsgRec }, function(Data) { if (Data.Messages.length != 0) { $("#messagesCont").append(Data.Messages); if (Data.newUser.length != 0) $("#usersUl").append(Data.newUser); $("#messagesCont").attr({ scrollTop: $("#messagesCont").attr("scrollHeight") - $('#messagesCont').height() }); $("#userListCont").attr({ scrollTop: $("#userListCont").attr("scrollHeight") - $('#userListCont').height() }); } else { } $("#hdnLastMsgRec").val(Data.LastMsgRec); }, "json"); t = setTimeout("GetMessages()", 3000); } and here is my controller method to get the data: public JsonResult GetMessages(int roomId,DateTime lastRecMsg) { StringBuilder messagesSb = new StringBuilder(); StringBuilder newUserSb = new StringBuilder(); List<Message> msgs = (dc.Messages).Where(m => m.RoomID == roomId && m.TimeStamp > lastRecMsg).ToList(); if (msgs.Count == 0) { return Json(new { Messages = "", LastMsgRec = System.DateTime.Now.ToString() }); } foreach (Message item in msgs) { messagesSb.Append(string.Format(messageTemplate,item.User.Username,item.Text)); if (item.Text == "Just logged in!") newUserSb.Append(string.Format(newUserTemplate,item.User.Username)); } return Json(new {Messages = messagesSb.ToString(),LastMsgRec = System.DateTime.Now.ToString(),newUser = newUserSb.ToString().Length == 0 ?"":newUserSb.ToString()}); } Everything is working absloutely perfect. But i some messages getting repeated. The first time page loads i am retrieving the data and call GetMessages() function. I am loading the value of field hdnLastMsgRec the first time page loads and after the value for this field are set by the javascript. I think the message keeps on repeating because of asynchronous calls. I don't know, may be you guys can help me solve this. or you can suggest better way to implement this.

  • ASP.Net MVC 2: How to keep values in the model between posts

    - by Andreas
I have an edit view that is displaying some model properties as plain text and other model properties as input fields. My problem is that the model properties displayed as plain text are null when the model is returned to the view after a validation error. How do I retain the model values when I don't have input fields for all properties? What is best practice? My first thought is to keep the values of these properties in hidden input elements. <%= Html.HiddenFor(model => model.CustomerName) %> Is this considered a correct solution? Thanks Andreas

  • How do I use custom member properties for people on my .NET website

    - by Jordan S
I am trying to make an asp.net website using Visual web dev and C# that accesses data in an SQL database. For my site, I need to be able to save and access additional user properties such as age and gender. I have been playing around with the built in .NET Login tools but I don't understand how to keep track of the additional properties (age, gender...) I could store all the users information in my own database but how do I correlate the users data in my DB to the usernames in the member database that is automatically created?

  • ASP.net 2.0 Gridview with Expanding Panel Rows -- How to build Panel "on the fly"

    - by jlrolin
I'm currently building a Gridview that has expandable rows. Each row contains a dynamically created Panel of Form elements. Right now, I have a javascript function that expands (or in my case, makes visible) the panel when an Image is clicked on the Gridview row. My question is... is there a more efficient way of doing this. Instead of pulling all my data to begin with and building each new row as I Databind, is there a way to simple create the row with the Panel full of textboxes and dropdownlists on the fly when the user clicks the Expand button?" I'd like to limit the server calls by doing it that way instead of how I'm currently doing it, looping through every row and creating a new panel with form elements and inserting that into a row that is hidden.

  • Best practices in ASP.Net code behind pages.

    - by patricks418
Hi, I am an experienced developer but I am new to web application development. Now I am in charge of developing a new web application and I could really use some input from experienced web developers out there. I'd like to understand exactly what experienced web developers do in the code-behind pages. At first I thought it was best to have a rule that all the database access and business logic should be performed in classes external to the code-behind pages. My thought was that only logic necessary for the web form would be performed in the code-behind. I still think that all the business logic should be performed in other classes but I'm beginning to think it would be alright if the code-behind had access to the database to query it directly rather than having to call other classes to receive a dataset or collection back. Any input would be appreciated.

  • Help with route rewrite in asp.net mvc

    - by NachoF
Im having a really hard time understanding routing. Please help me with this problem. Each of my controllers have these three actions right now Users have Index, Create and Edit Locations have Index, Create and Edit Companies have Index, Create and Edit The thing is, it all gets done through ajax. I have jquery ui tabs with two tabs for each, Create and Edit So the Index method is always the one that gets called for action links. and inside this main view is that you can call(by clicking on the tab icon) the other methods that return an ajax view that gets output into the jqeury tab (I hope thats clear) I have a sidebar with links to the controllers. and to specific methods of these controllers. The wanted behavior is that it should actually go into the Index Method and then with some logic autoload the wanted tab. It all works just fine right now. But my urls are horrible. To get to the create method for Users I have to go this url http://localhost/Users/Index/1 http://localhost/Users/Index/2 I want the behavior of these links to be remapped to these links http://localhost/Users/Create http://localhost/Users/Edit So even though it seems as if you are calling the Create method of the controller you are actualling always calling the Index Method.... (I know how to transform Create into "1" and Edit into two, so dont worry about that part Hope thats clear. Thanks in advance Edit: Just realized that this might not be possible cause then when I actually need to call the methods (with ajax) it wont know what to do.... am I correct?
