• Windows AD DNS: Event ID 5504

  Two of my AD controllers (both running DNS service) appear to be having a similar issue. Both are throwing lots of events in the DNS events that look like this: Event Type: Information Event Source: DNS Event Category: None Event ID: 5504 Date: 5/24/2010 Time: 11:51:38 AM User: N/A Computer: ALPHA Description: The DNS server encountered an invalid domain name in a packet from 76.74.137.6. The packet will be rejected. The event data contains the DNS packet. That will come with the same event, same time, with a packet from 76.74.137.7 as well. I know this is "Information" not an error, but since it is new and different it bothers me (yes, I fear unexplained change!) Both machines are running Windows 2003 R2 SP2. The DNS servers are not exposed to the internet. Both DNS servers are configured to use OpenDNS for Forwarders. For both servers, this started about a week ago. Any thoughts on: 1) should I be concerned? 2) how can I stop/fix this? To keep it interesting, I have a 3rd AD / DNS box. Same domain, different Active Directory site. Same forwarders, yet doesn't have this issue.

• VMware Data Recovery error -3960 and Event ID 8193 on Windows Server 2003

  I've been trying to solve this problem since a few days now without any success. What I'm trying is to make a backup of a virtual machine running Windows Server 2003 SP 2 using VMware Data Recovery 2.0.0.1861. • NTDS Replication Warning (Event ID 2089)

  I have a simple little network with 3 AD servers in 2 sites. Site A has Win2k3 SP2 and Win2k SP4 servers, site B has a single Win2k3 SP2 server. All have been in place for at least 3 years now. Just last week I started getting Event 2089 "not backed up" warnings (example below) on both of the win2k3 servers. I understand what the message means, no need to send me links to the technet article explaining it. I'll improve my backups. What I'm more curious about is why did I just start getting this message now? Why haven't I been getting it for the past 3 years?!? Perhaps this is related: I recently decommissioned a few other sites and AD controllers (there used to be 3 more sites, each with their own controller). Don't worry, I did proper DCpromo exercises and made sure we didn't lose anything. But would shutting those down possibly be related to why I get this error now? This won't keep me awake at night but I am curious as to what changed... • Deploying Windows Service through group policy fails with Event ID 102

  I'm trying to deploy a custom Windows Service (written in C#; installed through a VS setup project) using a group policy. To help debug this, I also have two additional MSIs in the same policy. All three packages are deployed as a machine policy, not a user one. On one machine (runs Windows Server 2008; no UAC), all three deploy fine. The service is set to Automatic, as expected. On two machines (run Windows 7; UAC), the two other MSIs deploy fine, but my service fails to install. The event log gives an event ID of 102, which appears to be a permissions problem: The install of application "Package Name" from policy "Policy Name" failed. The error was The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. However, all three packages come from the same share linked through UNC, so this is unlikely. My guess is that UAC is the problem; that the service requires additional permissions. Do I need to alter the MSI somehow?

• Postfix message ID originating process?

None of the other virtual domains handled by postfix were affected. How can I find out what process was feeding postfix/sendmail or more info on where they originated? As far as I can tell php mail() wasn't used and I've run several open relay tests. I did a little tinkering(removed winbind from the server and ipv6 addresses from main.cf) after the attack and it seems to have subsided but I still have no idea how my server was suddenly sending out spam. Maybe I fixed it - maybe I didn't. Can anyone help figuring out how I was compromised? Anywhere else I should look? I've run Linux Malware Detect on recently changed files but nothing found.

• IIS7.5 - about app pool ID's and folder read/write access

  I did some searching and it looks like for each app pool, there should be an account created called IIS APPPOOL\AppPoolName - however i can see no such account when i try to modify the permissions on a folder to give that app write access. The closest I have found is the IIS_IUSRS group. Now, if i go into that group and look at the members, i see several IIS APPPOOL\PoolName members. But where are these members coming from? Why don't they show up under the users? And why can't i add a specific one to a folder? It doesn't make sense to me to add the IIS_IUSRS group to a folder since they gives every site access to the folder. To be more specific, I'm setting up wordpress and it unfortunately wants write access to the root folder. So i want to restrict it as much a possible. I was trying to figure out how to set it so that the WP root folder has write access only for the ID that the blog's app pool is running under. When i drill down into the IIS_IUSRS group, i do not see the app pool for the blog listed there. The settings for the blog's app pool are: No managed code, Classic, ApplicationPoolIdentity, and it's named 'blog' So any explanations regarding these users that are created for the app pools, and why the blog doesn't seem to belong to the iusrs group? thanks

• Entity with Guid ID is not inserted by NHibernate

  I am experimenting with NHibernate (version 2.1.0.4000) with Fluent NHibernate Automapping. My test set of entities persists fine with default integer IDs I am now trying to use Guid IDs with the entities. Unfortunately changing the Id property to a Guid seems to stop NHibernate inserting objects. • html button elemenents and onserverclick attribute in asp.net

  I have been experiencing some very strange behavior using html buttons with the onserverclick attribute. What I am trying to do is use jQuery to designate the default button on the page. By default button I mean the button that is "clicked" when a user hits enter. In testing, I would hit enter while in an input field and sometimes the intended "default" button was clicked and the server side method defined in the corresponding onserverclick attribute was hit. Other times a post back was made without hitting the server method. In Firefox 3.6 and IE 8 when only one input exists on the page, hitting enter does not trigger the onserverclick, it makes a post back without even being jQuery "clicked" or actually "clicked". You can test this by starting with two inputs and clicking "test2". This will output "server method2 was hit". Then just hit enter and the output will be "server method1 was hit. Now take away an input and run the same test. Click "test2" see the results, then hit enter and you will see that nothing will change because the "test1" method was never hit. • Unique element ID, even if element doesn't have one

  I'm writing a GreaseMonkey script where I'm iterating through a bunch of elements. For each element, I need a string ID that I can use to reference that element later. The element itself doesn't have an id attribute, and I can't modify the original document to give it one (although I can make DOM changes in my script). I can't store the references in my script because when I need them, the GreaseMonkey script itself will have gone out of scope. Is there some way to get at an "internal" ID that the browser uses, for example? A Firefox-only solution is fine; a cross-browser solution that could be applied in other scenarios would be awesome. Edit: If the GreaseMonkey script is out of scope, how are you referencing the elements later? They GreaseMonkey script is adding events to DOM objects. I can't store the references in an array or some other similar mechanism because when the event fires, the array will be gone because the GreaseMonkey script will have gone out of scope. So the event needs some way to know about the element reference that the script had when the event was attached. And the element in question is not the one to which it is attached. Can't you just use a custom property on the element? Yes, but the problem is on the lookup. I'd have to resort to iterating through all the elements looking for the one that has that custom property set to the desired id. That would work, sure, but in large documents it could be very time consuming. I'm looking for something where the browser can do the lookup grunt work. Wait, can you or can you not modify the document? I can't modify the source document, but I can make DOM changes in the script. I'll clarify in the question. Can you not use closures? Closuses did turn out to work, although I initially thought they wouldn't. See my later post. It sounds like the answer to the question: "Is there some internal browser ID I could use?" is "No."

  I have built a xl2tpd/ipsec server on my ubuntu 12.04.3, and I managed to make a l2tp vpn connection to the xl2tpd server from my android phone. • I'm trying to populate a MySQL table with some data, but, mysqli won't let me insert every 10th stat

  I want to initialise a 'ticket' table with some ticket IDs. To do this, I want to insert 120 ticket IDs into the table. However, at every 10th statement, MySQL tells me that the ID already exists and thus won't let me insert it.   Hi, It seems that the default ASP.NET MVC2 Html helper generates duplicate HTML IDs when using code like this (EditorTemplates/UserType.ascx): <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<UserType>" %> <%: Html.RadioButton("", UserType.Primary, Model == UserType.Primary) %> <%: Html.RadioButton("", UserType.Standard, Model == UserType.Standard) %> <%: Html.RadioButton("", UserType.ReadOnly, Model == UserType.ReadOnly) %> The HTML it produces is: <input checked="checked" id="UserType" name="UserType" type="radio" value="Primary" /> <input id="UserType" name="UserType" type="radio" value="Standard" /> <input id="UserType" name="UserType" type="radio" value="ReadOnly" /> That clearly shows a problem. So I must be misusing the Helper or something. I can manually specify the id as html attribute but then I cannot guarantee it will be unique. So the question is how to make sure that the IDs generated by RadioButton helper are unique for each value and still preserve the conventions for generating those IDs (so nested models are respected?   Hi there I've been working all day and I somehow can't get this probably easy task figured out - probably a lack of coffee... I have a synchronizedList where some Objects are being stored. Those objects have a field which is something like an ID. These objects carry information about a user and his current state (simplified). The point is, that I only want one object for each user. So when the state of this user changes, I'd like to remove the "old" entry and store a new one in the List. protected static class Objects{ ... long time; Object ID; ... } ... if (Objects.contains(ID)) { Objects.remove(ID); Objects.add(newObject); } else { Objects.add(newObject); } Obviously this is not the way to go but should illustrate what I'm looking for... • Manually start session with specific id / transitioning session cookie between domains

  My host requires me to use a different domain for SSL secured access (shared SSL), so I need to transition the user session between two domains. One part of the page lives at http://example.com, while the SSL'd part is at https://example.hosting.com. As such I can't set a domain-spanning cookie. What I'm trying to do is to transition the session id over and re-set the cookie like this: http://example.com/normal/page, user clicks link to secure area and goes to: http://example.com/secure/page, which causes a redirect to: https://example.hosting.com/secure/page?sess=ikub..., which resurrects the session and sets a new cookie valid for the domain, then redirects to: https://example.hosting.com/secure/page This works up to the point where the session should be resurrected. I'm doing: function beforeFilter() { ... $this->Session->id($_GET['sess']); $this->Session->activate(); ... } As far as I can tell this should start the session with the given ID. It actually generates a new session ID though and this session is empty, the data is not restored. This is on CakePHP 1.2.4. Do I need to do something else, or is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do?

  I am trying to use the MVVM pattern, and I am wondering where I place an ID value. Do I create a TextBlock that has its visibility property set to collapsed? Or is there a better place to store this kind of data? • Retrieving and displaying a contact name from a contact id while using a SimpleCursorAdapter

  I am storing information on the phone's contacts using a sqlite database. The fields I am storing are: _id, contact_id, body where _id is the row's id, contact_id is the phone contact's id and body is just a simple text which is the actual information I am storing. I'm using a SimpleCursorAdapter to map the data to the view, like so: Cursor cursor = database.fetchInformation(); // fetch info from DB String[] from = new String[] { CONTACT_ID, BODY }; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.contact, R.id.body }; SimpleCursorAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.row, cursor, from, to); getListView().setAdapter(adapter); What I would actually want is to get the contact name that is associated with this CONTACT_ID, and have that be shown in the view. I can't seem to find a simple solution. I've tried implementing my own SimpleCursorAdapter and rewriting setViewText(TextView, String) but it didn't work. Also, it just seems overly complicated for such a simple task. Any help? Thanks.

• MVC3 DropDownListFor selected value does not reset if I set the Id

  I've read a lot of posts on here regarding the dropdown selected value issues (not showing etc etc...) but mine is the opposite problem. I want the drop down to always reset after the view is returned after a button submits the page through the controller action. So how I've structured it all works but is it possible to reset the dropdown list each time? I can't find a way to do it and I've tried a lot of ways, believe me.   Can I use an external assembly's static method like [ThreadStatic] method? Here is my situation. The assembly class (which I do not have access to its source) has this structure public class RegistrationManager() { private RegistrationManager() {} public static void RegisterConfiguration(int ID) {} public static object DoWork() {} public static void UnregisterConfiguration(int ID) {} } Once registered, I cannot call the DoWork() with a different ID without unregistering the previously registered one. Actually I want to call the DoWork() method with different IDs simultaneously with multi-threading. If the RegisterConfiguration(int ID) method was [ThreadStatic], I could have call it in different threads without problems with calls, right? So, can I apply the [ThreadStatic] attribute to this method or is there any other way I can call the two static methods same time without waiting for other thread to unregister it?   I have successfully set up this plugin before so I am curious as to what I am doing wrong here. I have built the ability for users to add tags to questions. I am not using tagging plugin here but that shouldn't matter for this. With respect to the auto complete, I am trying to have the form located in the /views/questions/show.html.erb file access the Tags table and display entries in the tags.tags_name column. When I begin to type in the field I get the following error message: Processing QuestionsController#show (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-31 15:22:20) [GET] Parameters: {"tag"=>{"tag_name"=>"a"}, "id"=>"auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name"} Question Load (0.1ms) SELECT * FROM "questions" WHERE ("questions"."id" = 0) ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Question with ID=auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name): app/controllers/application_controller.rb:15:in `init_data' For some reason I am actually passing the field name as the Question.id. The plugin set up is fairly simple as you add the following line to your controller: auto_complete_for :tag, :tag_name and the following line in your routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have added the controller line to both my tags and questions controller and also mapped resources for both tags and questions in my routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } map.resources :questions, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have played around with removing either or of the above but can't seem to fix it. Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?
