  • Why does sound stop working after a while?

    I don't know how to reproduce this problem, because I don't regularly play music or sound. All I know is that, sometimes, I'll load a video (from youtube or from a local file) and there will be no sound.   • How do I control Front and Back volume independently with cloned stereo signal

    hello I have my 7.1 soundcard set to stereo and plugged in two stereo thingies (a. my desktop speakers b. my stereo) to the front respectively rear plug. Now I would like to an easy way to mute/volume control them independently - gui if possible. If I set my soundcard to 4.0, the pulse audio mixer gives me sliders for front and back but the problem is that's the input signal. so if i mute the front there and I'm listening to stereo everything remains silent. But what I'd have liked in that scenario would be the front to be silent and the back playing the full stereo signal. Is there a way to do that or something similar?

    I have two primary audio outputs on my machine: The speakers and a USB headset. Currently, in Windows 7 Professional x64, I type "sound" in the Start search menu to open up this dialog: I only care about the top two options for the purposes of this question. I would like to know if there's a way in AutoHotKey to switch from "Speakers (4- Sennheiser USB Headset)" to "Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio)" so I can avoid having to open this dialog every time I wish to switch.     Hello folks, I have reinstalled in my Windows XP machine. After it is re-isntalled the audio in my machine has failed. I have installed all the device drivers in my mother board. The Realtek Sound driver is also installed. Note: Sound is working when I test the surround settings test in my RealTek program, but unable to play any audio, tried playing both in my local machine and from the internet. Any clues to troubleshoot?

    Why isn't my audio service running? It's so random. Sometimes I am able to change my PC volumn, other times I am not. I've restarted the following services: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Multimedia Class Scheduler Windows Audio Endpoint Builder I think I started noticing this after I went mucking around in msconfig looking for ways to improve PC performance. I know I shut off some services, but that was over 6 months ago today and I am finally getting tired of it happening.

    I am in the very first stages of implementing a tool to compare 2 market data feed sources in order to prove the quality of new developed sources to my boss ( meaning there are no regressions, no missed updates, or wrong ), and to prove latencies improvement. So the tool I need must be able to check updates differences as well as to tell which source is the best (in term of latency). Concrectly, reference source could be Reuters while the other one is a Feed handler we develop internally. People warned me that updates might not arrive in the same order as Reuters implementation could differs totally from ours. Therefore a simple algorithm based on the fact that updates could arrive in the same order is likely not to work. My very first idea would be to use fingerprint to compare feed sources, as Shazaam application does to find the title of the tube you are submitting. Google told me it is based on FFT. And I was wondering if signal processing theory could behaves well with market access applications. I wanted to know your own experience in that field, is that possible to develop a quite accurate algorithm to meet the needs? What was your own idea? What do you think about fingerprint based comparison?

    I'm currenty trying to port Ubuntu Touch to the Galaxy s4 International LTE (GI9505/ jfltexx). I've come to the point where I need to create a UCM directory but I don't know where and how I should call it. By "looking at /usr/share/alsa/ucm/apq8064-tabla-snd-card/" is the local Ubuntu PC directory or a directory on the downloaded CM meant?     I am on 11.10 64bit and I have installed flash from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/. I had downloaded install_flash_player_11_linux.x86_64.tar.gz and moved libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla and ~/.mozilla/plugins I also have OSS installed because alsa does not work for me. I generally follow steps mentioned at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound and everything works fine. But for 11.10, flash has no sound. I am not sure if that is OSS problem.

When they are selected as the default audio output, the sound comes out of the speakers instead of the headphones. I have rebooted and tried using a different USB port. Then I change it to "Output: ALSA Audio output" and a Device menu appears. I select the headphones. When I then save the prefs, the audio switch to the headphones! But here's what's weird: I go back to prefs, change it to "Output: Default" and the headphones keep working. Maybe the ALSA option is actually what is being chosen as the "Default" option, but the Device menu (whose selection is still being used) is still set to the headphones. Anyway, now I need to figure out how to make it work as the default for the whole system.

  • Analog and digital audio output at the same time

    My speakers use a digital input, but my headphones use an analog input. I have them both plugged in, and when I want to use the headphones I just turn off the speakers and switch on the headphones. I know that simultaneous output on digital and analog is supported by the hardware, because it worked fine in Windows XP. But on Ubuntu, I seem to only get one at a time, depending on which setting is selected in the combo box located at System -> Preferences -> Sound -> Hardware. How can I get simultaneous analog and digital output without having to switch the profile every time? I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 and it's an HDA Intel chip.
