    I would like to do the following two things: 1) I would like to play an audio file qhen a nib is loaded 2) After that i would like to switch views when the audio file has finished playing. This will be easy as i just need to call the event that initiates the change of view by using the delegate method -(void) audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying{ //code to change view } I dont know how to to play the audio file when a nib is loaded. Using the AVFoundation framework, I tried doing the following after setting up the audio player and the variables associated with it in the appropriate places i wrote the following: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *soundFilePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource: @"sound" ofType: @"mp3"]; NSURL *fileURL = [[NSURL alloc] initFileURLWithPath: soundFilePath]; AVAudioPlayer *newPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL: fileURL error:nil]; [fileURL release]; self.player = newPlayer; [newPlayer release]; [player prepareToPlay]; [player setDelegate: self]; [player play]; } Although this does not play the file as the viewdidload method gets called before the nib is shown so the audio is never played or heard.     I'm trying to record analogue stereo sound with my MacBookAir. The external mic is plugged to the headphones jack, but it is not being shown in the System Preferences. I did a little bit of research, and there is some rumor, that the headphone jack only supports digital-in for mics. Is there a built-in way to use the analogue stereo sound without purchasing an external converter or a new mic? With my old MacBook 2,1 it was usual for me to do this, but with my new MacBook Air 4,1 it seems to be a tough task.

  • Xaudio2 XAPO Effects

    I've been working with XAudio2. After looking at the samples, example code, and sparse documentation available from Microsoft and the MSDN, I've found that there aren't any easy-to-find resources on creating and using XAPO effects, nor any XAPO effects produced by third parties that I can download and/or buy. What it looks like is that if I create an app that uses XAPO effects, I'll have to create them all myself because there's no community of existing applications like there is with technologies like Apple's AU or Steinberg's VST. Is this true, or are there others using XAudio2 and XAPO and I just haven't found them? Is there a place to ask programmer-support-related questions about XAudio2 and related technologies (or is this the best destination)? The best I've found so far are the XNA forums, which are game-specific and sparsely populated in the audio area.

    Our current podcast page has show notes and a link to download an mp3 of our podcast. We were advised to add an audio player to stream the file live from our website. The thought being this would improve time spent on our site and allow for greater advertising dollars. Is it better to have a page with show notes, an mp3 for download AND also stream the podcast live OR just stick to the show notes & mp3 download? Does anyone see any affect on advertising revenue, either way?

    Just wondering if anyone else's experiencing the "Aw, Snap!" bug in Google Chrome. I'm developing a brand new engine which occasionaly triggers this bug and as far as I know, there's nothing one can do to find out what actually triggered the issue. I've also tested my engine with Firefox, which runs just fine. Anyway, just wanted to know if someone else is facing this while developing games for Google Chrome and has a clue about what can be done to avoid it. I'm using plain JavaScript and the audio and canvas elements from HTML5. Thanks!

  • What makes game sound effects "good"?

    I'm making a small game, and I've found some free sound effects that I'd like to use. The issue is that I can't get the sound effects to sound like they "belong" in my game. I don't know what to look for that can make sound effects match the rest of my game style. I have some ideas on what affects the meshing of audio with graphics. For example, I have a feeling that the current SFX I may be too "realistic" for my graphical style, which is pretty cartoon-like. Also, is there a golden standard for what volume various SFX should be at? (for example, I am thinking that footsteps or other common sounds should be at barely audible volumes, while enemy deaths or something that is a "big deal" should be louder). I found a similar question about graphics, I'm looking for a similar response with sound effects.

    I don't know how to reproduce this problem, because I don't regularly play music or sound. All I know is that, sometimes, I'll load a video (from youtube or from a local file) and there will be no sound.   • How do I control Front and Back volume independently with cloned stereo signal

    hello I have my 7.1 soundcard set to stereo and plugged in two stereo thingies (a. my desktop speakers b. my stereo) to the front respectively rear plug. Now I would like to an easy way to mute/volume control them independently - gui if possible. If I set my soundcard to 4.0, the pulse audio mixer gives me sliders for front and back but the problem is that's the input signal. so if i mute the front there and I'm listening to stereo everything remains silent. But what I'd have liked in that scenario would be the front to be silent and the back playing the full stereo signal. Is there a way to do that or something similar?

    I have two primary audio outputs on my machine: The speakers and a USB headset. Currently, in Windows 7 Professional x64, I type "sound" in the Start search menu to open up this dialog: I only care about the top two options for the purposes of this question. I would like to know if there's a way in AutoHotKey to switch from "Speakers (4- Sennheiser USB Headset)" to "Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio)" so I can avoid having to open this dialog every time I wish to switch.     Hello folks, I have reinstalled in my Windows XP machine. After it is re-isntalled the audio in my machine has failed. I have installed all the device drivers in my mother board. The Realtek Sound driver is also installed. Note: Sound is working when I test the surround settings test in my RealTek program, but unable to play any audio, tried playing both in my local machine and from the internet. Any clues to troubleshoot?

    Why isn't my audio service running? It's so random. Sometimes I am able to change my PC volumn, other times I am not. I've restarted the following services: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Multimedia Class Scheduler Windows Audio Endpoint Builder I think I started noticing this after I went mucking around in msconfig looking for ways to improve PC performance. I know I shut off some services, but that was over 6 months ago today and I am finally getting tired of it happening.

    I'm currenty trying to port Ubuntu Touch to the Galaxy s4 International LTE (GI9505/ jfltexx). I've come to the point where I need to create a UCM directory but I don't know where and how I should call it. By "looking at /usr/share/alsa/ucm/apq8064-tabla-snd-card/" is the local Ubuntu PC directory or a directory on the downloaded CM meant?   • No audio in Adobe Flash

    I am on 11.10 64bit and I have installed flash from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/. I had downloaded install_flash_player_11_linux.x86_64.tar.gz and moved libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla and ~/.mozilla/plugins I also have OSS installed because alsa does not work for me. I generally follow steps mentioned at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound and everything works fine. But for 11.10, flash has no sound. I am not sure if that is OSS problem.
