• VirtualHost problem with passenger (mod_rails)

  Hi all, I'm at my wit's end here with virtual hosting. I'm trying to install redmine and it works with the webrick test server, but when I tried to use passenger (mod_rails) to host and go to the address I specified when in the virtualhost part of my apache config file nothing happens. Here is the relavent section of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf where I try to set up the virtual host: <VirtualHost *:80> SetEnv RAILS_ENV production ServerName redmine.MYSITE.com:80 DocumentRoot /opt/redmine-1.0.5/public/ <Directory /opt/redmine-1.0.5/public/> Options -MultiViews Allow from all AllowOverride none </Directory> However, when I got to redmine.MYSITE.com:80 nothing happens, I just get our normal home page. I have no idea what the problem is, any help our guidance would be greatly appreciated. If you need any other information, please tell me and I'll provide it.

• Detecting if a browser's cache is full

  We've identified that full browser caches are the cause of a problem on our extranet. It only affects a small number of our users, but we'd like to alert them to the problem and give them some guidance on how to fix the problem for themselves. We'd like to use a similar system to the one which GMail uses. When it detects that your browser's cache is full, it shows a warning message telling users that their cache is full and that it may cause problems with GMail, along with a link to a Gmail Help page on clearing your browser's cache. Does anyone know if there any resources out there, or examples of how to use JavaScript to detect that the browser's cache is full? Thanks.

• Screen capture during testing

  This is an application for reviewing performance tests. Simple in concept, tricky to describe. Picture: 1) Recording interactions with a WPF program so the inputs can be played back. 2) Playing the inputs back while doing a continuous screen capture. 3) Capturing wall time as well as continuous CPU percentages during playback. 4) Repeating steps (2) and (3) lots of times. 5) Writing the relevant stuff out to files/db. 6) Reading it and putting it all in a fancy UI for easy review/analysis. The killer for me is (2). I could use some guidance on a good, possibly commercial, screen capture SDK. I would also welcome the news that my whole problem already has a solution. And of course any thoughts on the overall idea would also be great. Thanks. Ed

• C++ String manipulation isn't making sense to me...

  I am trying some of the Stanford SEE courses online to learn some new languages; this particular assignment has to do with removing substrings from strings. What I've got so far is below, but if text = "hello hello" and remove ="el", it gets stuck in a loop, but if i change text to text = "hello hllo", it works, making me think I'm doing something obviously stupid. There is a stipulation in the assignment not to modify the incoming strings, and instead to return a new string. string CensorString1(string text, string remove){ string returned; size_t found=0, lastfound=0; found = (text.substr(lastfound,text.size())).find(remove); while (string::npos != found ){ returned += text.substr(lastfound,found); lastfound = found + remove.size(); found = (text.substr(lastfound,text.size())).find(remove); } returned += text.substr(lastfound,found); return returned; } Guidance would be appreciated :-) Thanks

• Anyone who actually got Tycho to work?

  I'm trying to get Tycho working with m2eclipse. Problem is that all I find are outdated sites and old versions to download. I've found my way to hxxp://github.com/sonatype/sonatype-tycho and downloaded the source. Problem is that the guide at https://docs.sonatype.org/display/TYCHO/BuildingTycho isn't of much help. When trying to build I run into an error message saying I'm using invalid syntax..... And there seems to be nowhere to ask for further guidance. So are there anyone out there who actually got this working? Or got a better alternative for continuous integration / automatic build solution for eclipse plug-ins?

  my partner and i are launching a social learning platform - the requirements have been mapped out and are quite basic/intuitive. we are familiar with html/css, and have some very basic understanding of php, but we would love some feedback on whether we should tackle this ourselves or not. we've built websites, but in the past relied mostly on pre-fab code, i.e. wordpress, ning, etc. we've been looking specifically at ruby for developing the network, but i haven't delved into it fully yet. we're looking for some guidance and feedback - e.g. thoughts on ruby on rails? what's the learning curve? are we getting in over our heads? thanks in advance!

  I need to write a windows service which executes an application after a certain amount of time. I have checked out the code in MSDN and found an example in which the System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase class is sub-classed. I did the following. created a new C# console application copied the code from the MSDN example Run I get the following error The type or namespace name 'ServiceProcess' does not exist in the namespace 'System'(are you missing an assembly reference?) As i had copied the example from MSDN, i have no idea why the code still does not work. This is my first experience writing services and i`d love some guidance. thnkx!

  Is a software engineering degree sufficient for being able to design efficient code in enterprise architecture ? I mean that's what I want to do, some people go to game schools (Vancouver Film School) to make games or work in that industry. are there such similar programs for enterprise software design/development ? Are there special courses in Java EE space and .NET ? is it suitable to just focus on java or both ? My ultimate goal would be consulting and developing enterprise software independently....but right now, I am starting school and just keep learning on the side. any guidance to resources on this industry would be appreciated or your insights.   Hello, i've been running some experiments of my own with Spring Roo and it seems to be pretty cool, but i noticed that this tool makes heavy use of AOP on the model layer. I'm thinking about creating a real project using Roo and what i would like to know is: Why AOP is everywhere? Is That ok? What are advantages and disadvantages of this approach? • iCalcreator 2.6 event creation sent in an email w/o attachment

  G'day everyone, I am currently trying to send meeting invitations to Outlook recipients. After reading several blogs and various literature iCalcreator seems to be the most complete iCalendar PHP class available. And the documentation is just...crazily complete. If creating a iCal .ics file is OK, I can't find a nice way to send it by email to the attendees without having them to double click on an attachment. Just like Google Calendar and Outlook do, I would like to send emails that will automatically show the buttons Accept | Tentative | Decline upon reception without any other user action involved. If anyone ever had to realize that, I would be more than happy to get your feedback/help or even just relevant guidance. Thanks

• Solution to combine two submit buttons.. doing two different things from the same input

  I am trying to figure out how to combine two different forms, both require the same input but they do two different things. One form sends a request to the ecommerce platform to get the order status, and another form takes the same order number and returns a tracking code from USP or USPS. I am looking for some guidance on how I could combine these two actions.. one is currently using the POST method and the other GET. Here is an example .. so one is This one runs a validation script to confirm the order number is valid and then returns the order info if it is the second form is sending a get request to an asp file that is generating the proper tracking numbers. Can someone please point me to how I could begin to tackle this?

• Seam app with JBoss 'minimal' Config?

  I'd like to improve the performance of my Seam apps and JBoss appserver, particularly by removing things that aren't necessary in the standard configuration. Ideally, I'd like to be able to run it using the "minimal" profile. Can anyone give me any guidance as to what is needed to run a Seam app using "minimal"? Here are the kind of things my app requires: JPA, using Hibernate with a PostgreSQL backend EJB3 JSF (RichFaces/Facelets) E-mail, eventually, although not required at this particular moment I'll be developing my app using JBoss Tools on Eclipse, so I would also need anything that is required by the tools for development and deployment. I've found that the default configuration just has too many additional components and features installed by default, and that greatly affects performance when I'm trying to develop.   I am a bit confusing in selecting the target version in Windows phone7 Application development. In my Windows phone7 app I need to use a light weight relational DB Which didn't introduce with version 7.0 but SQL CE with 7.1 version. The problem is if I select the target version as 7.1, then the devices which came up with windows phone7 OS 7.0 will not be able to install this. But I heard that all the devices that came with windows phone7 OS version 7.0 is upgradable for windows OS version 7.1 for free. If this is the case then if I select the development SDK version as 7.1, then will all the windows phone7 devices be able to install this? Like to know which will be the best Target version in this case to select, before I start developing. Any guidance/ Idea is highly appreciated. Thanks...

I do not know Ruby on Rails, and am designing front-end using XHTML, CSS, jQuery, 960.gs CSS Framework. My developer is supposed to take my design and connect the elements of back-end to it, with Ajax too. What are the things that I should know while designing the template/view so that I won't kick my developers' asses with my design? How to help the connecting of elements painless? • mod rewrite, title slugs and htaccess

  I have been taken in to provide some seo guidance on a website which has been running since 2005. My problem is i want to use clean urls. The code that handles the url is hidden away in some class file.. and with over a few thousand lines of code its a struggle to rewrite it. So I'm think, I have gone through all the products and created a slug for them as a field in the product table. Is it possible to do something like an intermediate file for htaccess. Some thing like 1./clean-slug-comes-in/ 2.htaccess catches this and uses slug.php to find the relevant product id for the slug. 3.Then product.php?id=(ID.found.from.2) is loaded?

  Hi everyone, I'm designing a set of web services to allow our clients to connect from their apps to one of our systems. Our clients have their apps developed in all varieties of frameworks (.NET, Java, PHP, Python and even the occasional all JS app), so obviously WS is the way to go. Investigating a little about truly interop WS I've found that the way to go is to design first the WSDL and XSD and derive the implementations from there. What i'm really looking for is guidance if this is really the way to go. I've read that WCF creates interoperable WS but i'm not a fan of MS creating something standard. Should i use WCF or there is a good set of tools for designing WSDL and XSD without the pain i'm expecting. Thanks in advance
