• amCharts issue with Flex

  HI I am working with amCharts at the moment and was wondering if somebody could give me some sort of guidance on the matter. I am using Flex to call a server side php file which then returns some xml data. This works perfectly and efficiently. I then add this data to the chart will also works quite well. However as I try to use the scroll bar on the chart, it seems to zoom out and delete all my data. I cant figure this out at all. The same thing happens when i click the show all button.

• How to structure Python package that contains Cython code

  I'd like to make a Python package containing some Cython code. I've got the the Cython code working nicely. However, now I want to know how best to package it. For most people who just want to install the package, I'd like to include the .c file that Cython creates, and arrange for setup.py to compile that to produce the module. Then the user doesn't need Cython installed in order to install the package. But for people who may want to modify the package, I'd also like to provide the Cython .pyx files, and somehow also allow for setup.py to build them using Cython (so those users would need Cython installed). How should I structure the files in the package to cater for both these scenarios? The Cython documentation gives a little guidance. But it doesn't say how to make a single setup.py that handles both the with/without Cython cases.

• What add-in/workbench framework is the best .NET alternative to Eclipse RCP?

  I'm looking for a plugin-based application framework that is comparable to the Eclipse Plugin Framework, which to my simple mind consists of: a core plugin management framework (Equinox / OSGI), which provides the ability to declare extension endpoints and then discover and load plugins that service those endpoints. (this is different than Dependency Injection, but admittedly the difference is subtle - configuration is highly de-centralized, there are versioning concerns, it might involve an online plugin repository, and most importantly to me, it should be easy for the user to add plugins without needing to know anything about the underlying architecture / config files) many layers of plugins that provide a basic workbench shell with concurrency support, commands, preference sheets, menus, toolbars, key bindings, etc. That is just scratching the surface of the RCP, which itself is meant to serve as the foundation of your application, which you build by writing / assembling even more plugins. Here's what I've gleaned from the internet in the past couple of days... As far as I can tell, there is nothing in the .NET world that remotely approaches the robustness and maturity of the Eclipse RCP for Java but there are several contenders that do either #1 or #2 pretty well. (I should also mention that I have not made a final decision on WinForms vs WPF, so I'm also trying to understand the level of UI coupling in any candidate framework. I'm also wondering about platform coupling and source code licensing) I must say that the open-source stuff is generally less-documented but easier to understand, while the MS stuff typically has more documentation but is less accessible, so that with many of the MS technologies, I'm left wondering what they actually do, in a practical sense. These are the libraries I have found: SharpDevelop The first thing I looked at was SharpDevelop, which does both #1 and also #2 in a basic way (no insult to SharpDevelop, which is admirable - I just mean more basic than Eclipse RCP). However, SharpDevelop is an application more than a framework, and there are basic assumptions and limitations there (i.e. being somewhat coupled to WinForms). Still, there are some articles on CodeProject explaining how to use it as the foundation for an application. System.Addins It appears that System.Addins is meant to provide a robust add-in loading framework, with some sophisticated options for loading assemblies with varying levels of trusts and even running the out of process. It appears to be primarily code-based, and pretty code-heavy, with lots of assemblies that serve to insulate against versioning issues., using Guidance Automation to generate a good deal of code. So far I haven't found many System.AddIns articles that illustrate how it could be used to build something like an Eclipse RCP, and many people seem to be wringing their hands about its complexity. Mono.Addins It appears that Mono.Addins was influenced by System.Addins, SharpDevelop, and MonoDevelop. It seems to provide the basics from System.Addins, with less sophisticated options for plugin loading, but more simplicity, with attribute-based registration, XML manifests, and the infrastructure for online plugin repositories. It has a pretty good FAQ and documentation, as well as a fairly robust set of examples that really help paint a picture of how to develop an architecture like that of SharpDevelop or Eclipse. The examples use GTK for UI, but the framework itself is not coupled to GTK. So it appears to do #1 (add-in loading) pretty well and points the way to #2 (workbench framework). It appears that Mono.Addins was derived from MonoDevelop, but I haven't actually looked at whether MonoDevelop provides a good core workbench framework. Managed Extensibility Framework This is what everyone's talking about at the moment, and it's slowly getting clearer what it does, but I'm still pretty fuzzy, even after reading several posts on SO. The official word is that it "can live side-by-side" with System.Addins. However, it doesn't reference it and it appears to reproduce some of its functionality. It seems to me, then, that it is a simpler, more accessible alternative to System.Addins. It appears to be more like Mono.Addins in that it provides attribute-based wiring. It provides "catalogs" that can be attribute-based or directory-based. It does not seem to provide any XML or manifest-based wiring. So far I haven't found much documentation and the examples seem to be kind of "magical" and more reminiscent of attribute-based DI, despite the clarifications that MEF is not a DI container. Its license just got opened up, but it does reference WindowsBase -- not sure if that means it's coupled to Windows. Acropolis I'm not sure what this is. Is it MEF, or something that is still coming? Composite Application Blocks There are WPF and Winforms Composite Application blocks that seem to provide much more of a workbench framework. I have very little experience with these but they appear to rely on Guidance Automation quite a bit are obviously coupled with the UI layers. There are a few examples of combining MEF with these application blocks. I've done the best I could to answer my own question here, but I'm really only scratching the surface, and I don't have experience with any of these frameworks. Hopefully some of you can add more detail about the frameworks you have experience with. It would be great if we could end up with some sort of comparison matrix.

• Cross-Page communication in firefox extension

  I have two tabs that my extension uses and I wanted to pass events back and forth between them. I've already developed a Google Chrome extension that does this via the background page api, but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent in firefox. I thought message-manager in the firefox extension docs would do the trick, but the documentation on the object is quite poor. I'd be just as happy with using one of the tabs to control the other if I can't directly import the ideas of a background page from google chrome api. Any help/guidance would be great.

• Computer Vision application(+web interface) for face detection and recognition from database

  My project is a computer vision java application which should implement the following : A web interface through which the form entry+images(for example a student data) will be stored into a database(Mysql) & images into directory common to my java application. Then the data & images can be retrieved from my java Gui application and I can perform the following operations of image processing through OpenCV. Actually,I want to run the face detection on images retrieved and discard the false entries(no proper face). Also the application user/admin can search an image based on text search(By Id) or By another reference image using face recognition. I am well familiar with Java but the problem is that I need a guidance on how to organise it in a stepwise manner(links appreciated).OpenCv,Php and mySql are really messy.I know doing the openCV stuff within java is real overhead but i really want to do it.But If there is any suggestion to do it elseway please guide me.So any kind of help is a ray of hope for me. • Importing contacts into the GAL

  Hello stackoverflowers, Forgive me if this question has been asked and answered, I've searched and found a few that look similar but I'm too much of a novice with SQL to adapt them to my needs. Also forgive me if I don't use the correct terminology, I know it can be annoying when someone asks a question and they don't even know enough to be able to ask for what they need. I'm helping a friend gather some data, and need to perform a query that results in a single row per record, but instead I get multiple rows. Here is an example of what I'm querying right now (simplified, hopefully not too much): SELECT * FROM `table_one` AS t1 INNER JOIN `table_two` AS t2 ON t1.id = t2.id INNER JOIN `table_three` AS t3 ON t1.id = t3.id WHERE 1 The result is: id text number 5 Subtotal 17 5 Tax 3 5 Total 20 What I need is to create a query that results in something more like this: id text number text number text number 5 subtotal 17 Tax 3 Total 20 Any assistance/guidance would be much appreciated. • Adding Parameters to Zend_Navigation

  I have a problem with Zend_Navigation that I am hoping for a little guidance on. I'm in the process of adding a Zend_Navigation to a legacy app as described [here on SO].1 The thing that I am not sure of is how to add parameters to the navigation menu after the data is loaded from the xml file. What I want to do is get 2 identifying parameters from the url and add them to the Zend_Navigation so that they are included in things such as the breadcrumb bar, so that if a user selects the previous item in the breadcrumb they are returned with the correct params in the url. The parameters, I believe need to be set at the Action level rather than the controller. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

  Hey Guys Ive used the ObjectBindingDatasource to bind to a class Ive called "ReportViewModel" which contains properties such as List Companies {get; set;} List Managers {get; set;} in its constructor Im just calling a method to populate with dummy data Managers = new ReportDataRepository().GetManagers(); Companies = new ReportDataReposiroty().GetCompanies(); ... When i create the new Datasource , it shows the ReportViewModel class with the Lists under it. I expand the Companies object and attempt draging and dropping fields onto the report designer and it works. Though doesnt allow me to drag and drop for any other List. Any guidance would be really appreciated.

The string is available by simply saying myJsonString = object.getJson(); Below is an example of what the string can look like: {'title': 'Computing and Information systems','id':1,'children': 'true','groups': [{'title': 'Level one CIS','id':2,'children': 'true','groups':[{'title': 'Intro To Computing and Internet','id':3,'children': 'false','groups':[]}]}]} In this string every json object contains an array of other json objects. The intention is to extract a list of id's where any given object possessing a group property that contains other json objects. I looked at google's Gson as a potential json plugin. • Trying to build automatic audio-conferencing capability into a WebApp

  Hey all, I'm working with a team of relatively novice programmers, and we are trying to create a site that will have audio-conferencing capabilities such that whenever someone visits the page, they will immediately have audio-conferencing capabilities with everyone else on the page (5 people max). • Reviving a deleted file for use in my workspace

  Greetings We run perforce with several users. Each user has their own development website that shows files in their workspace. This is great for making and viewing changes to webpages before submitting them. Sometime ago, we deleted a few pages in Perforce. I would like to revive these pages, but not to make them visible on our live site. I want to view them in my workspace and on my dev site, but I do want to push them out to our live server. In the "depot" tab of my P4 client, I can see the deleted files. I cannot see them in the "Workspace" tab of my client. How can I revive them for use in my Workspace, but not make them live to the world? I'm not a P4 admin so I could use a little guidance. Thanks for any help,

• Unit testing "hybrid" WPF/Silverlight controls

  I'm starting a new WPF/Silverlight custom control project and wanted to do unit testing on this one. However I'm a little confused about how to approach this. This control would be based on the same codebase for both WPF and Silverlight with minor forking using #ifs and partial classes to tame the differences. I guess I could write unit tests for WPF part with NUnit, MSTest, xUnit, etc. and for the Silverlight part with Silverlight Unit Test Framework but this doesn't sound very elegant to me. I'd have to either ignore testing identical code on one of the platforms and test only differing parts (which is not very trustworthy) or rewrite tests for 2 frameworks (which is annoying). Is this the right way to go? I'm wondering if there's some guidance, articles, tutorials out there on how to approach this task. Any pointers?

  Hello, Is there any other free alternatives to PHPliveDocx? I would like to create a Word document based on templates and user inputted data. The template will resides on the server and the client(online or c# windows application) will be used to collect user input. Once data has been collected, server-side script(PHP) will be used to generate a Word document. So far I have only found phplivedocx. However I'm not very comfortable at consuming web services from a server that I have no control over with (am I worrying too much?). I have also thought about using client to do the work (c# windows application, Open Office XML). But I'm not sure that's the right way of doing things. Any guidance/help will be really appreciated!   Hi all, I recently installed TFS 2010 with the included sharepoint services on a single server. I am getting the following error multiple times on the project dashboard web page on the TFS2010 project protal after creating a brand new project in the default project collection. I am not an expert with WSS, so any guidance will be greatly appreciated. After reading a few articles I understand there are some DLL that are probably not declared as safe in a web config file. But I am not sure which DLL they are and where the web config file is. I looked at IIS to determine the directory structure in IIS is quiet different to the URL path ...Thanks very much.   I'm trying to write a test application for serial I/O (RS-232) with multiple units in C# and I'm running into an issue with my lack of threading experience so I'm soliciting feedback for a best known method. I've got a pool of COM ports COM1-16 each of which can read/write at any time and I need to be able to manage them simultaneously. Is this a situation for a thread pool? What is some guidance on structuring this applet? Edit: Upon review I was wondering is I really even need to do asynchronous threads here, I could just maintain states for each COM-port and do flow logic (i.e., statemachine) for each COM-port individually.

• How to develop a Google Gadget compatible server

  I am going to develop a Google Gadget container site, that will be able to host OpenSocial compatible widgets (that I believe are Google gadgets, too, right?). Do you have any guidance where to start? I know that the good start is the iGoogle Developer Home site and that framework what I would like exists - Shindig, but is little clumsy. Tutorial links do not work, for start. Do you think it would be wise to use Shindig? Maybe just for a start and then develop any customizations, if needed? Or would be wiser to start from scratch? So where to start? Do you have any advices, tips or other useful resources to get on faster with this topic? I guess I can start with Compliance - Gadget Server?
