• partial entity loading and management in silverlight / wcf ria

  I have a Silverlight 4 app which pulls entities down from a database using WCF RIA services. These data objects are fairly simple, just a few fields but one of those fields contains binary data of an arbitrarily size. The application needs access to this data basically asap after a user has logged in, to display in a list, enable selection etc. My problem is because of the size of this data, the load times are not acceptable and can approach the default timeout of the RIA service. I'd like to somehow partially load the objects into my local data context so that I have the IDs, names etc but not the binary data. I could then at a later point (ie when it's actually needed) populate the binary fields of those objects I need to display. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this would be welcome. Another approach which has occurred to me whilst writing this question (how often does that happen?!) is that I could move the binary data into a seperate database table joined to the original record 1:1 which would allow me to make use of RIA's lazy loading on that binary data. again.. comments welcome! • How to prevent popups when loading a keystore

  Hi as corollary to this question I wanted to ask if you know how to prevent the poping of dialogue either to ask for password or to ask to insert a certificate. We are currently building a system where we have to use the windows keystore to get certificates that are stored on USB token containing both reader and certificate. Unlike the original question we do not experience problems when loading the keystore but when we are accessing it. If there is only a single certificate in the keystore no problem, we get the appropriate password popup at the appropriate time and that's it. However if a second USB key gets inserted in the system and later removed the entry remains in the keystore and from then-on every time we try to access information in the keystore we get a popup to insert the key. This occurs for every certificates in the store for which the key is not currently connected to the computer. The system we are interfacing with that requires these certificates necessitates that we perform multiple cryptographic operations and to have these popups to come up every times is rather annoying to say the least.

  Hi everybody, I'm very new to jQuery, Ajax and things like these. I've found solutions on how to inject HTML fragments into my site: $(document).ready(function(){ $('a').click(openContent); //binding all anchors to this function }); function openContent(){ var path = $(this).attr('href'); $('#content').load(path); return false; //to prevent browser from loading the single HTML fragment } That works really fine! The problem is, these function won't be executed when clicking on anchors located in the new HTML fragment which were injected right before. So the fragment won't get injected into div, the browser will only load the fragment for itself. Hope there are solutions which aren't that tricky... thanks sam

  Hi I have a page which has a img holder with the html: - <img src="someimage.jpeg" alt="image" class="show_image"/> Now i m updating the image with jquery using the code... $('.show_image').attr('src', 'anotherimage.jpeg'); Now its working fine but i want to show the users the image is being loaded and may wait as the image size may be huge... Is there any method in jquery to get the information of percent loaded(bytes read/remaining) or if the image load is complete... Also how can i place a div over the image placeholder such that the div can fade the image(opacity:0.8) and add some text over the div as loading or something thanks

• Google map in user control not loading from aspx code behind

  I am using Google maps API for proximity search. I have all this in an ascx client side. I have a button in the aspx code behind. The initial load of the map is fine. But on the button click, the map is not being loaded though all the other controls are loading properly. The controls are in an Update Panel and I am new to using these. Would appreciate in any suggestions made.

  Hello, I have a question that is probably very simple, but I cannot find an answer here or on Google. I am loading a SWF in an HTML page the following way (using JavaScript): AC_FL_RunContent( "src", "${swf}", .... "type", "application/x-shockwave-flash", "pluginspage", "http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" ); I have tried to add the line: "style", "visibility: hidden" But it has not worked. I can later on make it visible or hidden using: document.getElementById("flash").style.visibility = "hidden"; But I would like to have the flash invisible and make it visible later on, but by adding a parameter in the AC_FL_RunContent. • Loading an OverlayView from XIB -vs- programmatically for use with UIImagePickerController

  I am currently making a camera app for iPhone and I have a strange phenomenon that I can't figure out. I would appreciate some help understanding. When recreating an overlay view for passing to UIImagePickerController, I have been successfully been able to create the view programmatically. What I haven't been able to do is create the view with/without controller in IB, load it and pass it to the overlay pointer successfully. If I do it via IB, the view is not opaque and obscures the view of the camera completely. I can not figure out why. I was thinking that the normal view pointer might be assigned when loading from XIB and therefore overwrite the camera's view, but I have an example programmatically where view and overlayView are set equal in the controller class. Perhaps the load order is overwriting a pointer? Help would be appreciated... kind regards.

• Problem Loading AS2 swf into AS3 swf

  I've been trying very hard to get an AS2 swf to load properly inside an AS3 swf - but to no avail ... The AS2 file (which is a rather big app referencing many external xml files etc.) works perfectly when launched in Flash Player. When trying to load the same file through an AS3 swf (using URLRequest and Loader classes), the file starts loading but stops abruptly during the preloading phase. (Same happens if I try to load it using AS2 "loadMovie".) What is there more to try? Security settings, custom loader classes - any advice is appreciated.

  Hi, My question is about XML loading. I need to avoid xml caching. On a web server, the technique is adding a random param to reload each time the XML file. But on local testing (in Flash CS4 IDE, CTRL + Enter), the following lines are not possible : var my_date : Date; path = "toto.xml?time="+my_date.getSeconds()+my_date.getMilliseconds(); Is there any trick to bypass this issue ? I've read on different forum about the "delete" method, we delete the xml object and then recreate one new. In my case, I put : myXML = null; myXML = new XML ( loadedData ); But it doesn't work at all. I spent many hours on that problem, if anyone has a good solution... Thank you.

  Consider an ASP.NET MVC application using the Salt parameter in the [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] directive. The scenario is such that the app will be used by many customers. It's not terribly desirable to have the Salt known at compile time. The current strategy is to locate the Salt value in the web.config. [ValidateAntiForgeryToken(Salt = Config.AppSalt)] //Config.AppSalt is a static property that reads the web.config. This leads to a compile-time exception suggesting that the Salt must be a const at compile time. • Loading all files in a directory in a Java applet

  How would one go about programatically loading all the resource files in a given directory in a JAR file for an applet? The resources will probably change several times over the lifetime of the program so I don't want to hardcode names in. Normally I would just traverse the directory structure using File.list(), but I get permission issues when trying to do that within an applet. I also looked at using an enumeration with something line ClassLoader.getResources() but it only finds files of the same name within the JAR file. Essentially what I want to do is (something like) this: ClassLoader imagesURL = this.getClass().getClassLoader(); MediaTracker tracker = new MediaTracker(this); Enumeration<URL> images = imagesURL.getResources("resources/images/image*.gif"); while (images.hasMoreElements()){ tracker.add(getImage(images.nextElement(), i); i++; } I know I'm probably missing some obvious function, but I've spent hours searching through tutorials and documentation for a simple way to do this within an unsigned applet.

  Hello, I've downloaded Eclipse Classic 3.5 Galileo, the last version of Android SDK, downloaded and installed Eclipse Android 1.6 platform. I've created first (and the only) AVD with Android 1.6 and the default skin. The log may show more: I've filtered only neccessary messages (warnings, errors). -http://www.clipboard.cz/63c As you can see, my new AVD has started in 16:17 and it was still loading in 17:35... • Safari's never-ending loading message when an iframe does not have a src

  I'm using @rem's jQuery :visited plugin to do something with visited links on a page. The plugin works by creating an invisible iframe, injecting the HTML source, and comparing the colour of links to see which have been visited. It works perfectly. The problem I have is that on Safari, the status bar message always hangs on "Loading (X-1) of X items" - i.e. it thinks there is still some resource still needing to be loaded. I've narrowed it down to this plugin, and the fact that it attaches the IFRAME element to the BODY before the src is set (or injected in this case). I've tried rearranging the code to set the src before the append happens, but that breaks the plugin's functionality. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue? It's not a major issue as the site still functions perfectly well, but it's an annoying glitch that could be confusing to users.

• Inconsistent Loading Times for GeoRSS Overlay Between Firefox and IE

  I have a very simple page built to display a map and overlay a line based on points in a GeoRSS XML file. Here is the publicly accessible file. http://68.178.230.189/georssimport.html Firefox is loading in about 5 secs, which is expected because there are a lot of points to map, but IE (6 & 7) is taking upwards of 45 secs to a minute. • Code in Global.asax prevents webpage from loading

  I've made a static class to hold a number of configuration values (and also swap these values out in unit tests). If I initialise it in the Global.asax, the code runs correctly but the page doesn't load at all, and trying to navigate to a specific page fails. I can't initialise the values in a constructor or inline on the field declarations, because I need to be able to swap the values out in unit tests before the web.config is interrogated. Basically, putting the one line "ConfigClass.SetValues()" in the Global.asax prevents the app from loading correctly (although, as I say, it runs the code fine) and removing it again makes the app load properly - but without the class values initialised. As an aside, I'm sure I had this working correctly and being initialised in the Global.asax yesterday. I'm positive I didn't take any action to change or break it... Does anyone have advice on how I might track down what's going on here? Was I mistaken that it worked before (always possible) and that I need to go back and redesign something?

  Host Configuration: HP EliteBook 8530w 4G Ram Win7 Ultimate 64Bit RC SQL Server 2005 64bit Developer Edition Virtual: Windows Virtual PC 1G Ram allocated Integration Services installed Windows XP 64bit Up to date service packs and .Net framework through 3.5 SP1 Sharing the Gigabit network adapter of the Host I have a simple .Net console application which loads a dataset of approximately 37K rows. Running the application on the host executes in approximately 4 seconds. Running inside the virtual takes 729 seconds. The size of the application grows to about 65Mb when the dataset is finished loading, no calculated columns or event handlers are attached. [edit] I changed the virtual to use a loopback adapter to communicate with the host and performance is now on par with running on hardware. Any ideas as to why it would going over the network adapter be almost 200x longer? TraceRt shows that the connection is only one hop. Thanks, Shane Holder

  Hi, I have a table in MySql DB which I want to load it to a dictionary in python. the table columns is as follows: id,url,tag,tagCount tagCount is the number of times that a tag has been repeated for a certain url. So in that case I need a nested dictionary, in other words a dictionary of dictionary, to load this table.   I think I've found the cause: Document Info window in IB has a warning: "'Selected Navigation Controller (Second)' has nib name property set to 'SecondView.nib', but this view controller is not intended to have its view set in this manner." Bummer. I've built nib in Interface Builder that has UITabBarController at top level and switches between UINavigationControllers. It works fine when everything is in a single nib file, but I'd like to use separate nib files for UINavigationControllers. Starting with Apple's TabBar template, if I just change class of SecondView to UINavigationController, it all breaks: and all I get is this: Is it possible to have separate file for UINavigationController without programmatically setting everything? I would like TabBarController to handle loading and unloading of nibs.

  I want to have an AS3 app load images from url supplied by the user. But I don't want a malicious user to be able to load an SWF file in place of the image, such as with an altered extension "maliciousSwf.png". Well, not sure how big a security threat that is above and beyond the ability of the hacker to decompile swf, but I think that ideally such behavior should not be allowed. So, is there any way to prevent this? When people allow users to load images in their Flash apps, do they somehow guard against loading of SWF? Or is this really absolutely no big deal?

  When loading up a solution in VS2008 I get this message: An error was encountered while opening associated documents the last time this solution was loaded. Document load is being skipped during this solution load in order to avoid that error. It shut down immediately the first time I opened it. The next time I opened it, VS popped up a message box but did not shut down at first; however, it did shut down when I clicked a usercontrol or ASPX page.
