How do I merge MP4 files without audio going out of sync?

Is there a tool I can use that can merge MP4 files without throwing the audio out of sync? I generated some MP4 files from a DVD using AVIDemux but whatever tool I try to use always ends up throwing the audio out of sync with the video. The further you get into the video the further off-sync the audio is. By themselves the MP4/AAC videos have perfect audio-video sync. later tonight i might try http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to examine the file before and after to see if anything changed in the media format.

My saved drafts become unread email in Windows Live Mail and Gmail IMAP

I have setup windows live mail with my gmail account in IMAP mode. When I draft an email and save it. It saves in the drafts automatically. Within a minute, my WLM sound alerts new mail and shows mail icon in the system tray. However, this is for the draft I have saved which appears unread. To make the mail notification icon go away in the system tray, I go off and mark the draft as read. This repetition is tedious and distracting. How can I avoid this annoyance? thanks

CentOS Live CD Creation issues

I am creating my customized CentOS 6.3 Live CD. I am following information given at https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/wiki/GetToolset My "livecd-creator" command completes successfully and an ISO image is created. But when I try to boot up my system with this ISO, it goes up to the CentOS blue screen and then the CAPS lock and Scroll Lock LEDs on the keyboard starts flashing. Then from here after, the system takes no input from keyboard and I have to power cycle it and it does the same thing. Could you get me any suggestion why this is causing and possible workaround. Thanks.

Fonts and encoding in windows live mail.

Sometimes I have non-english emails (arabic for example). When I try to open them with windows live mail, it doesn't show them correctly.. for example such this: &1588;&1603;&1585;&1575; &1610;&1575;&1605;&1575;&1606; (I changed it a bit to show here as I want) I had a look at options, there was encoding on arabic(windows) but I didn't find anything else. When I open this mail on yahoo however, there is no problem. What can I do?

Cutting up videos (excerpting) on Mac OS X -- iMovie produces super-large files

I need to cut out parts of a video (+ the associated audio, of course) to make a short clip. For example, take 2 minutes from one location, 3 minutes from another part of the video, 30 seconds from another location and join it all together to form one single clip. The format of the input video is mp4 (H.264 encoding, AFAICR). Don't need very sophisticated merges or transitions from one part to the next, or sophisticated banners (text) on-screen, but some ability to do so would be a plus point. I've done this with iMovie in the past, but where the original file was under 5MB/min of play time, the chopped-up version was over 11MB/min of play time, which to me seems really bad. Is there a better/different way of doing this on OS X? Looking for free (gratis) solutions. OS: OS X 10.9.3

Hello, I was searching for a long time a Linux Live USB that I can boot my macbook pro from. Is there such distro so I can install it on Snow Leopard or Windows 7? UPDATE I've found this: "isohybrid" CD images (..) are special in that as well as the normal CD-based ISO9660 filesystem they also contain a valid-looking DOS-style partition table. Thus, if you simply copy one of these images raw to a USB stick a normal PC BIOS will boot the image directly. (...) Finally: I'd like to add support into xorriso for creating the nasty HFS hybrid images that are needed for booting Macs. The code that does this in cdrkit is probably some of the worst that I've ever worked with, and I'd like to get away from it. Resizing video best practices (frame size)

I have read the following which is from Best Practices for Encoding Video with the VP6 Codec on the Adobe website here - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/encoding_video_print.html. It is talking about common video ratios (320x240, 640x480) Although these ratios are standard, and should be used to avoid distorting the video, the size of the encoded video is not set in stone. The original web video sizes used heights and widths that were evenly divisible by 16. This was mandatory for many early codecs. Although this is not necessary for modern codecs, you should stick to even heights and widths. What do they mean by 'even heights and widths'. I am thinking about encoding my video at 400x300 to make it slightly bigger, this is still 4x3 format but should I just stick at 320x240 and resize it on the screen? Clearly there are benefits to this in terms of storage size and delivery costs. In some places on my site I want to show the video at 400x300 but in others I want it to play full screen so this is why I am wondering if a larger original size (400x300) will give better results when blown up. Any thoughts?

DirectShow Filter I wrote dies after 10-24 seconds in Skype video call

I've written a DirectShow push filter for use with Skype using Delphi Pro 6 and the DSPACK DirectShow library. In preview mode, when you test a video input device in the Skype client Video Settings window, my filter works flawlessly. I can leave it up and running for many minutes without an error. However when I start a video call after 10 to 24 seconds, never longer, the video feed freezes. The call continues fine with the call duration counter clicking away the seconds, but the video feed is dead, stuck on whatever frame the freeze happened (although after a long while it turns black which I believe means Skype has given up on the filter). I tried attaching to the process from my debugger with a breakpoint literally set on every method call and none of them are hit once the freeze takes place. It's as if the thread that makes the DirectShow FillBuffer() call to my filter on behalf of Skype is dead or has been shutdown. I can't trace my filter in the debugger because during a Skype call I get weird int 1 and int 3 debugger hard interrupt calls when a Skype video call is in progress. This behavior happens even with my standard web cam input device selected and my DirectShow filter completely unregistered as a ActiveX server. I suspect it might be some "anti-debugging" code since it doesn't happen in video input preview mode. Either way, that is why I had to attach to the process after the fact to see if my FillBuffer() called was still being called and instead discovered that appears to be dead. Note, my plain vanilla USB web cam's DirectShow filter does not exhibit the freezing behavior and works fine for many minutes. There's something about my filter that Skype doesn't like. I've tried Sleep() statements of varying intervals, no Sleep statements, doing virtually nothing in the FillBuffer() call. Nothing helps. If anyone has any ideas on what might be the culprit here, I'd like to know. Thanks, Robert

HTML5 Video Element on iPad doesn't fire onclick?

I can see two "clicked" in the console. But on ipad there is nothing. First I tried with iOS versin 3.2, then I updated it to the latest one 4.2.1 without any success.I found a similar question HTML5 Video Element on iPad doesn't fire onclick or touchstart events? where it suggests not to use controls in video tag and I am not using it.

Hard-drive will randomly fail to load GRUB. Booting a live USB/CD fixes the issue temporarily

I am running 12.04 64-bit and am dual booting with Win7, for full disclosure, although I suspect that has nothing to do with my problem. Occasionally the boot-loader(GRUB) will fail to load and I will be presented with a black screen with a single blinking line. There is no apparent pattern although I suspect there is one and it is related to a program I am running. This has happened to me eight out of ten power cycles now and I can fix it consistently, however, I have no idea why it happens. My current fix is to boot a live CD (I've tried both KNOPPIX and Ubuntu with the same result) and that's it. Somehow booting with the live CD is enough to "wake-up" my hard drive. I then reboot and GRUB magically appears again. So what is going on? Is it possible that a program is corrupting my MBR and the live CD is restoring it? How can I narrow down the possibilities? Thanks. Additional: This is still a problem. I'm convinced now that it is not hardware related as I've spent the last month and several boot cycles on Windows without a hiccup. Recently when I started using Ubuntu again the problem started again. I am more interested in figuring out what is going on rather than actually fixing the problem. Are there any tools, logs, etc. I can use to unravel this mystery?

What is the best Video Conference integrated solution for Us? [closed]

we are trying to integrate a simple Video Conferencing (open source) solution into our existing application which is written in C++ and it runs on Linux. I am currently looking at using Ekiga (formely known as GnomeMeeting) or Homer Conferencing (short: Homer). My plan is to "integrate" an existing Video Conferencing client into our existing software. Please give me recommendation on which 3rd party application or library to use to add video conferencing feature to our application. PS: Please don't close this question. I asked it on StackOverflow and it got closed, so where am I supposed to ask this question? If not here, then whats the point of asking lol.

I am PHP MySQL developer and I am interested in the way television and radio are broadcasted over Internet live. I want to know how it works and and what are its requirements (which package of which programming language offers the best). And please clarify me: Websites are stored in servers. From my desktop, if I want to broadcast some video, then I need to connect to webserver (to upstream the video). Is there an application to do that (or do I have to code that or embed in my web application and which programming language would be suitable (does Python support that))? And I also need a script to handle the upstreamed video or audio (can I do that with PHP)?

Create Panoramic Photos with Windows Live Photo Gallery

Have you ever wanted to capture the view from a mountain or the full size of a building? Here’s how you can stitch multiple shots together into the perfect panoramic picture for free with Windows Live Photo Gallery. Getting Started First, make sure you have Windows Live Photo Gallery installed (link below). Live Photo Gallery is part of the Windows Live Essentials suite, you can select other programs to install along with it if you want. Make sure to uncheck setting your home page to MSN and setting your search provider as Bing if you don’t want them changed. Now, make sure you have pictures that will work good for a panorama. These need to be taken from the same spot, and the edges of the pictures need to overlap so the program can find where the pictures connect. Here we have taken pictures inside a building with a cell phone camera. Make your Panorama Open Live Photo Gallery, and find the pictures you want to use in your panorama. It will automatically index and display all of the photos in your Pictures folder or Library if you’re using Windows 7. If your pictures are saved elsewhere, add that folder to Photo Gallery. Click File, Include a folder in the gallery, and select the correct folder at the prompt. Now select all of the pictures that you will use in your panorama. You can easily do this by clicking the checkbox on each picture that appears when you hover over it. Once all of the pictures are selected, click Make in the menu bar and select Create panoramic photo… Alternately, right-click on any of the pictures you’ve selected, and click Create panoramic photo… Live Photo Gallery will analyze your photos and compost them together to create a panorama. The amount of time it takes will vary depending on the number of photos, size of the pictures, and computer speed. When it’s finished making the panorama, you’ll be prompted to enter a file name and save the picture. Your new panorama picture will open as soon as it’s saved. Depending on your shots, the picture may have quite a bit of black space around the edges where each picture didn’t cover the exact same amount of area. To correct this, click Fix on the menu bar, and then select Crop Photo in the sidebar that opens. Select the center of the picture with the crop tool, and click Apply when you’ve got the selection you want. Live Photo Gallery automatically saves your picture changes, and you can revert back to the original picture if you wish. Now you’ve got a nice panoramic shot, trimmed and ready to print, share, and more. Conclusion Panoramic shots are great ways to capture your whole surroundings, whether it’s a sports stadium, mall, or a scenic mountain view. They can also be a great way to capture more with low-resolution cameras. Hey everyone, I've been racking my brain (and fingers from typing) trying to solve this issue to no avail. I have a Lenovo computer and I install their system update tool to install all my missing drivers. However after this tool is installed Windows Live 2011 breaks, it will no longer sign in giving error number 8e5e0247 all the solutions online haven't helped. It appears that a language setting somewhere gets set to en_ms, and I'm en_ca. My computer is running Windows 7 x64. When i try to sign onto messenger it gives an error that (with some research) means your locale or language is not supported, I've searched my computer for any reference to en_ms but find none. Also a few other things seem to have broken, When a UAC box comes up it is no longer able to identify the publisher of anything, and also the indexing service does not work (I'm not sure if the indexing issue is related, but the UAC issue happened right after installation), I had this issue before but I don't remember how I fixed it, I believe it had something to do with environmental variables. When it goes to sign in it gets as far as the "Loading contacts" then stops and goes back to the sign in screen. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks

Live Messenger SimilarityTable2 file

I am trying to free up some space on my laptop's hard disk and am using a tool (SpaceMonger) that will show me a treemap of the whole disk. The problem I have comes from Live Messenger's SimilarityTable2 file. I have no idea what it is for, but I know that it is a sparse file, meaning that it shows as taking up 8GB of disk space, but actually only takes up 132KB of space on disk. The problem is that because SpaceMonger thinks this file is 8GB, it swamps the other files and takes up most of the treemap, making it hard to see the other files that really are large. Is this file safe to delete? If not, how do I make its actual size on disk match its reserved size? If that's not possible, how can I make SpaceMonger (or another treemap tool) use the real size of the file and not the reserved size? EDIT: I've just realised that I have some NTFS junctions set up, meaning that the same set of directories appear twice. Is there any way to stop this happening as well?

'Future-proof' Live Audio Capture & Broadcast [migrated]

I'm looking to implement some live audio broadcasting functionality within a Ruby on Rails site for a client and was hoping I could get some input from people who have tackled this type of thing before. Essentially what I need to do is capture and record a user's audio (via microhpone, line in, etc), then stream that to 1,000+ listeners with very little latency, like sub 2 second if possible. So it looks like we've got 3 parts: Web-based audio capture (likely with Flash or JS) Server to accept audio feed and stream to listeners (likely Icecast or Wowza) Actual audio player (maybe HTML5 w/ Flash as a fallback? Maybe this jPlayer fork) Does RTMP makes sense here? Or maybe HTTP? What's the most 'future-proof' way to make this happen? Building with mobile in mind, but still want to be able stream to anyone. I've found lots of potentially helpful threads and software but I'm struggling to get an idea of how it all fits together. I'm a front end guy and way out of my comfort zone so if anyone has insights to offer, I'd love to hear them.

When clicking on links in a main nav, the url is updated properly, but when links are loaded dynamically with ajax, the url address function breaks. I have made 'click' events live, allowing for content to be loaded via dynamically loaded links, but I can't seem to make the address event listener live, but this seems to be the only way to make this work. Is my syntax wrong if I change this : $.address.change(function(event) { to this: $.address.live('change', function(event) { or does the live method not work with this plugin?

jQuery, checking to see if video has height/width

I have a <video> element that is generated by js, and I need to get the height and width of it. var v = $('video'); v.height() returns null, because when it's run, the video hasn't yet been loaded, so no dimensions in the DOM. How do I check to see if the video has received a dimension, and if it hasn't, wait till it has to get the height and width. Thanks.
