• Active Directory Profile Slows down machine

  I have a strange issue with an Active Directory profile. When the user logs onto a machine with his profile, the whole machine becomes incredibly slow and unresponsive, with programs hanging and taking an age to load everything. If I log into the same machine with any other profile nothing happens. I took a look at his original profile, any start up programs, login scripts, etc and could not see what could be causing this. The machine is not running out of memory or CPU. Nothing strange is appearing in the event log and I can see nothing running under his profile which may cause this. So I created the user a new profile to test this on and exactly the same thing happens on the first login. The only thing which would of been carried across is the security groups the user is assigned to, yet I have other users with the same groups who do not experience these issues so I am now at a complete loss on where to go next!

  evaluating/investigating vmware, and how you create a "virtual machine" using the command line for rhel/centos. basically, i want to be able to create a test virtual machine and then be able to run the VM on another system using the virtual player. so, i'm looking for pointers/articles/instructions that detail what i need (in terms of tools/apps) and the steps needed to accomplish this. i've seen a few articles/sites that discuss creating virtual machines, but they all involve using the GUI. thanks update:: while vmware is the company. there are different tools/apps provided to create a Virtual Machine. Basically, I want to do a test, to ultimately have a Virtual Machine/Image that can be run on a separate server using the vmplayer app I've seen docs that discuss using the GUI to create the VM, but haven't found any (yet) that discuss how to accomplish this using the command line approach. thanks...

• Exim: Change sender address when sending mails out of local network

  We have a working exim setup at a site, where users can send and receive mails. We are trying to setup a server to send some warnings and errors using email to an address that is outside the local network. The problem is: The program that sends the mails sends them using the username it runs under and the local hostname of the server. This cause the mails to have a sender of format: [email protected]. Exim sends these mails to the ISP's SMTP server, which rejects the mails as they have an illegal or unverifiable sender (the internal address). I'm thinking I should configure exim to rewrite the sender when: - sender's domain is on the local network - receiver's domain is outside the local network I tried setting some kind of rewriting in the exim config, but did not manage to get it to work. I'd show what I have tried, but I ran out of time on the last visit to the site, and had to revert to the original version losing all the changes I tried.

• How to set local alias for a machine?

  I would like to set an alias on my local PC for a network machine. I know that it can be done by adding an entry in the hosts file as long as the IP address of the machine is also specified. However, the problem is that IPs are dynamically assigned by a DHCP server so I don't know for sure the IP address. Is there a way to define just an alias based on the machine's network name? P.S.: I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2.

  I want to restrict all traffic from my ubuntu-machine to come or go from the local network (eth0) or from or to my VPN (tun0). It should be possible to connect the router in the local network but not possible to leave the local network not using the VPN. Since i have no experience with iptables and i couldn't find some how-to i tried ufw but i did not succeed. Thank you for some hints or code snippets how to come closer!

  Is it possible to open inbound connections to a machine connected to a VPN server? The machine is running ubuntu 9.10 with two network devices(a wireless card and ethernet port), I can connect to my machine locally using a local ip but when I try port forward using my router I can't connect from my external ip. Is there a way around this? I figure with 2 network devices I can vpn over one and use the other for inbound connections but I can't figure out how to do this. Thanks

• Why can't service account such as Local Service, Network Service, or Local System be managed on a domain level?

  Hi security experts, I read from here that: On a local computer, an administrator can configure the application to run as Local Service, Network Service, or Local System. These service accounts are simple to configure and use but are typically shared among multiple applications and services and cannot be managed on a domain level. I just don't understand why these accounts cannot be managed on a domain level, since they all have well-known SIDs? Thanks for your time.

  Hello guys, I am setting up subversion using this link http://svn.spears.at/ It says that "As the Subversion book warns, make sure to create all repositories on your local disks [FiberChannel is treated as a local disk]. Failing to do so, may result in repository corruption. " This us a big problem for me. Isnt there a way I can set subversion on shared drives. Is there a work around because availability is a major concern with local drives.

  Hi, I am adding new column and action in the local admin app/code/local/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product/Grid.php which works fine, however. The local controller/app/code/local/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product.php is not being used or is not overloading the admin one /app/code/core/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product.php. This is almost fresh install of Magento 1.4.0.1. I am the only one working, so i know it is not overloaded by some custom controller. I have disabled all custom modules. I have rolled back most of my changes. I have checked /etc/Modules/Mage_Catalog.xml. Refreshed cache all possible ways, loged in and out. Nothing....still using the core contoller copy. why? How do you troubleshoot, meaning, at what moment magento decides using between core or local copies? ...its even more strange because it does not parse local Adminhtml config.xml but uses local Adminthml copy of Blocks. Any pointer would help. I would like to keep everything in local code. Thank You, Margots

  I'm having some problem with my centOS machine.I want to insert a line inside the rc.local to execute apache tomcat on startup. Below are the configuration for /etc/rc.local #!/bin/sh # # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts. # You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't # want to do the full Sys V style init stuff. touch /var/lock/subsys/local /opt/apache-jakarta/bin/startup.sh Unfortunately,the apache tomcat does not start on the boot time. I've already execute the script manually and it is working without any issues. Is there any specific syntax to put script inside the rc.local?Or did I forgetting something?Please Advice.Thanks. • Hyper-V VM guest can't ping any machine

  So I got Host: Hyper-v enabled machine with four NICs, only one enabled. Network type: External IP configuration are correct for both host and guest (getting it from the DHCP of the company network) The same configuration works on a machine with single NIC But With this other machine, with 4 NICs, there is no Internet in the guest, actually it can't ping any IP expect the host (pings host IP only, not the name) I searched the Internet and did every solution, more than once, with no success.

  I am retiring my old Windows Server 2003 Standard 32bit machine to a new machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. The two sticking points are migrating user accounts (and there are a lot of them) and IIS settings/websites (again, there are a lot). The new machine has not been provisioned yet. I'm at that point where I'm about install the OS on it. The old machibe is configured with a mirrored set for its OS and data partitions. I have broken the mirror set, replicated all of the data to an external drive, and then rebuilt the mirror set. In short, I have an image of the old machine to play with while safely leaving it up and running. Thanks!

One of the machines is with suse10 sp3 and the another - rhel4. machine1>file x.tcl x.tcl: ASCII English text machin2>file x.tcl x.tcl: data Even in vi editor same file look different from different machine. Any clue? One more thing - there's third machine suse10 sp3 works fine. Is this machine issue?

• Taskbar Disappears Over Remote Desktop Connection When Outside Local Network

  I've got a machine on my home network running Windows Server 2012 (Based on Win8) and rather than attach a monitor I remote desktop in and it works fine on my local network. The problem is, when I try to access it from outside my local network the taskbar disappears completely. When I minimize an application rather than minimize to the taskbar it simply closes the window as small as it can as if the taskbar never existed (see photos at ). I've messed with the connection properties (show/hide desktop background, etc.) with no luck. I've used the following methods to remote in and they all are fine when on the local network and taskbar-less from outside: Remote Desktop Connection on Mac Remote Desktop Connection on Windows Jump Desktop on iOS using RDP To access the computer from outside my local network I'm using a Linksys router and mapping to the server IP, port 3389.   Hi We are using a Dell desktop machine with 2 GB RRAM & Pentium D 3.00 GHz. The machine is very slow when using our Sales program and searching over the local network. We have this problem on 2 machine which are the same spec - This one and another. All of our other machine (10) run fast with no issues. Our server is SBS 2008 and AV is AVG. All of our client machines are WinXp Pro SP3 using the latest drivers. Any ideas?

  I have a virtual machine (made with vmware) with a linux ubuntu os installed on it (i have a series of them), with NAT network connection - i am running vmware on Windows XP (my host system); the virtual machine can't connect to the internet. All the vmware services seem to be working fine from windows point of view, but inside the machine i can't connect to the internet. What is strange is that the virtual machine was able to use the internet some time ago, but all of a sudden, i just can't use my internet on the virtual machine - i have made no changes to the settings, nor in windows, nor in the virtual machine - so i don't understand.

  I have a working installation of wordpress located in /var/www/html/wordpress It is accessible in my local network at [local-machine-ip]/wordpress/ There is also a test page located in /var/www/html/test.html It is also accessible in my local network at [local-machine-ip] I would like the wordpress website to be accessible from the outside world. I know that my ISP blocks incoming requests on port 80, so I set my router to redirect requests from port 8080 to 80.   I have a small script to install on my remote machine an update. I would like to reboot the machine remotely and if it is rebooted, continue with some more commands. What I currently do is: ssh root@myMachine << COMMANDS_ISSUED ###... Tasks init 6 COMMANDS_ISSUED sleep 180s ssh root@myMachine << POST_REBOOT_COMMANDS ###.... More stuff POST_REBOOT_COMMANDS Is there a more elegant way to do it? Like pinging the machine all 5 seconds up to a maximum of 4 minutes? I play with a few linux machines which have different boot up times and if my script would continue immediately after reboot, this could safe quite some time for me. (Note: I don't want to parallelize execution over all machines as I want to see for each machine if everything worked fine)

  I've been trying to determine different parameters used by Google in their search queries. In particular, the usg parameter is what is giving me troubles. Here is an example value given for it, which is from an actual Google query: usg=0_zDqudnCN52ATGjAl3tignXNtBo4%3D Does anyone know what it could be for / recognize it?
