  • eclipse + maven + tomcat debugging

    I'm developping a web application in Eclipse and I'm using maven, spring and tomcat. Now the problem I have is that debug as = debug on server doesn't work. I just get exceptions. (and yes I've created the server) If I use the mvn command to compile it, put the war in my tomcat webapps dir and start my tomcat the application works fine. But for the functionallity I'm now working on debugging would be usefull.

  • Tomcat SSL Configuration

    I received a SSL cert to use for a Tomcat 6.0 server, ready to use. I configured Tomcat to use it with the following in server.xml: <Connector port="8443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https" secure="true" SSLEnabled="true" keystoreFile="C:\Tomcat 6.0\ssl\cert" keystorePass="*****" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"/> I started Tomcat using the command prompt so I could see any error message as they happened. There were none. The results for accessing different URLS: http://localhost - normal page loads fine https://localhost - browser claims page cannot be found https://localhost:8443 - page cannot be found http://localhost:8443 - offers a certificate, after accepted redirects to https://localhost (I suspect the https:// urls initially offer the certificate which is automatically accepted by the browser, as it was issued by Verisign) How to fix? Edit: I've also tried port="443". Same result.

  • Iptables blocking mysql port 3306

    I got a Tomcat server running a web application that must access a mysql server via Hibernate on the same machine. So, I added a rule for port 3306 to my iptables script but tomcat cannot connect to the mysql server for some reason. I need to reset all iptables rules - Then tomcat can connect to the mysql server again. All the other iptables rules work perfectly though. What's wrong?   • Filesystems for webserver with SATA and Solid State disk,

    We have just ordered a new webserver with 120 Gb solid state disk and a SATA disk. I am trying to plan ahead what sort of filesystem to use. This system will be running Linux, Apache/Tomcat to host java services. The main service is a system where people can upload reasonably large files (in the order of 100 Mb, images, image stacks and video), which people will be able to annotate and which will be sent to a database server when annotation is complete. Thus far, I plan to put most of the utility programs of the operating system om the SSD and put the large media files there. The SATA disks will hold the less volitile data like apache, tomcat and the servlets. For filesystems I have considered going for the stable EXT3 because I hear that it is best supported. The downside seems to be that it not the ideal choice for large files. That is why I am leaning towards using XFS for the SSD and EXT3 for the SATA. My questions are: 1) Does this sound like a reasonable setup? 2) What filesystems would you recommend for the SSD and for the SATA? Thanks

  • Apache Virtual host not recognized

    I've been using one server, then I reinstalled everything on another server, and the mod_jk stopped working. Here is the situation: apache 2.0 sitting "in front" mod_jk used to connect to the apache to tomcat tomcat 6.0.26 used to server the actual requests I followed this tutorial. The result is: accessing http://mysite.com opens the index.html in /var/www/ accessing http://mysite.com:8080/ works OK the logs at /var/logs/apache2 show everything is OK: [Mon Mar 29 22:01:53.310 2010] [28349:3075389184] [info] init_jk::mod_jk.c (2830): mod_jk/1.2.26 initialized [Mon Mar 29 22:01:53 2010] [warn] No JkShmFile defined in httpd.conf. Using default /var/log/apache2/jk-runtime-status [Mon Mar 29 22:01:53 2010] [notice] Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) mod_jk/1.2.26 configured -- resuming normal operations I compared the server.xml, jk.conf, sites-enabled/mysite from the new server to those from the old one and they are identical. The domain name is the same (I updated the DNS record today, and it has refreshed successfully) So the question is, what can go wrong? Is there another place where problems would be logged, if such occur? Update What I can be almost certain of is that the virtual host is not recognized. It is always forwarded to the default virtual host. So, how to make sure the virtual host is recognized and working?

    I am trying to configure a startup script which will startup tomcat, monitor the catalina.out for the string "Server startup", and then run another process. I have been trying various combinations of tail -f with grep and awk, but haven't got anything working yet. The main issue I am having seems to be with forcing the tail to die after grep or awk have matched the string. I have simplified to the following test case. test.sh is listed below: #!/bin/sh rm -f child.out ./child.sh > child.out & tail -f child.out | grep -q B child.sh is listed below: #!/bin/sh echo A sleep 20 echo B echo C sleep 40 echo D The behavior I am seeing is that grep exits after 20 seconds , however the tail will take a further 40 seconds to die. I understand why this is happening - tail will only notice that the pipe is gone when it writes to it which only happens when data gets appended to the file. This is compounded by the fact that tail is to be buffering the data and outputting the B and C characters as a single write (I confirmed this by strace). I have attempted to fix that with solutions I found elsewhere, such as using unbuffer command, but that didn't help. Anybody got any ideas for how to get this working how I expect it? Or ideas for waiting for successful Tomcat start (thinking about waiting for a TCP port to know it has started, but suspect that will become more complex that what I am trying to do now). I have managed to get it working with awk doing a "killall tail" on match, but I am not happy with that solution. Note I am trying to get this to work on RHEL4.

  • SSL Returning Blank Page, No Catalina Errors

    This is my second, maybe third, time configuring SSL with Tomcat. Earlier I had created a self signed, which worked, and now using my signed is proving fruitless. I am using Tomcat, operating from the Amazon Linux API. When using the signed cert/keystore, my server is starting normally without errors. However, when trying to navigate to the domain it is giving me an "ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH" error. My server.xml file looks as follows: <Connector port="8443" maxHttpHeaderSize="8192" maxThreads="150" minSpareThreads="25" maxSpareThreads="75" enableLookups="false" disableUploadTimeout="true" acceptCount="100" scheme="https" secure="true" SSLEnabled="true" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS" keystoreFile="/home/ec2-user/.keystore/starchild.jks" keystorePass="d6b5385812252f180b961aa3630df504" /> It couldn't hurt to also mention that I'm using a wildcard certificate. Please let me know if anything looks amiss! EDIT: After looking more into this, I've determined there may be nothing is wrong with the Server.xml, or the listening ports. This is becoming more of an actual certificate error, as the curl request is giving me this error: curl: (35) Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to jira.mywebsite.com:-9824 Though, I can't seem to figure out what the "-9824" is. When comparing this curl to another similar setup (using the same Wildcard Certificate) it's turning up the full handshake, which is to be expected. I believe this is now between the protocol/cypher set default on JIRA servers.

  • Wildcard SSL and Apache configuration

    Hi all, I'm pulling my hard on this configuration, which probably is simply. I have a wildcard ssl certificate which is working. I have the website setup to run on domain.com under SSL. Now, I'm in need to run many subdomains (*.domain.com) on the same server with the same SSL certificate. Shouldn't be that hard, right? Well, I can't get it going. Point is, that the first config is another Tomcat server that serves another site and listens to domain.com and www.domain.com. The other config listens to *.domain.com and pulls the content from another Tomcat server. I already tried this whole setup with mod_rewrite, but simply don't see what I'm doing wrong.     I've got a weird situation occurring on my dev server. Randomly, and for no reason that I can see, files are being rolled back to an earlier version! This has happened twice now - the first time I assumed I'd done something wrong somewhere, restored the file I was after from a backup and gave it no further thought. The second time, just now, it happened to a folder containing just a few files that I was working on - suddenly all the changes I'd made over the last day or two were gone! (I know, commit more often, ay?). Thankfully I have a daily backup and so have recovered my files, but I'm very concerned about this and need to understand how and why it's happened. The only change made between file states is that I enabled sharing on a completely unrelated folder. I'm developing an app on Railo, which is running on Tomcat. The code was all fine and in c:\websites\appname. I shared the 'Railo' folder, which is c:\railo in order to allow my IDE access to the logs generated by the app (contained in c:\railo\tomcat\logs) and when I reloaded the app, the code was reverted to a few days ago! I'm at a complete loss here. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

  • Mac OS - Built SVN from source, now Apache2 not loading sites

    This relates to another question I asked earlier today. I built SVN 1.6.2 from source. In the process, it has completely screwed up my dev environment. After I built SVN, Apache wasn't loading. It was giving me this error: Syntax error on line 117 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec /apache2/mod_dav_svn.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_dav_svn.so, 10): no suitable image found. Did find:\n\t/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_dav_svn.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture It appears that SVN over-wrote the old mod_dav_svn.so and I am not able to get it to build as FAT, and I can't recover whatever was originally there. I resolved this(temporarily?) by commenting out the line that was loading the mod_dav_svn.so and got Apache to start at this point. However, even though Apache is running I am now getting this error when trying to access my dev sites: Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /usr/share/tomcat6/webapps/ROOT/ I have Apache2 sitting in front of Tomcat6. I access my local dev site using the internal name "http://localthesite". I have had virtual directories set up that have worked until this SVN debacle. Tomcat is installed at /usr/local/apache-tomcat, and webapps is /usr/local/apache-tomcat/webapps. Our production servers deploy tomcat to /usr/share/tomcat6, so I have symlinks setup on my system to replicate this as well. These point back to the actual installation path. This has all been working fine as well. None of our configurations for Apache2, Tomcat, or .htaccess have changed. Over the weekend, I performed a "Repair Disk Permissions" on the system. This was before I discovered the mod_dav_svn.so problem. I have been reading up on this all morning and the most common answer is that there is an Options -Indexes set. We have this in a config file, but it was there before and when I removed it during testing, I still got the same errors from Apache. At this point, I'm assuming I either totally borked the native Apache2 installation on this Mac, or that there is a permissions error somewhere that I'm missing. The permissions error could be from the SVN installation, or from my repair process. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I'm totally blocked right now and have no idea where to check next.

    I have one Tomcat and one Glassfish-Instance running on one server. Further i have two domains , for example www.abc.com and www.bcd.com. Now i should realise a configuration, that one application of tomcat will use www.abc.com and the second domain www.bcd.com. Is this possible with mod_proxy or mod_jk or something other? I didnt understand exactly how i must realise this. With two virtual-server-tags in apache2... or..? Maybe somewhere knows, how a situation like that is to implement.. Thanks a lot. Mikkman

  • Cannot access Tomcat application remotely, but can access Apache applications

    I am installing Atlassian's Confluence 4.2 on a clean Ubuntu 12.04 server. Confluence runs on Tomcat 6, and uses PostgreSQL 9.1 as its datastore. I've installed and configured phpPgAdmin to manage PostgreSQL, and Zentyal to manage the server generally. Both these applications use Apache. The problem that I am experiencing is that while I can access phpPgAdmin and Zentyal without problem from a remote PC, I can only access Confluence when running locally (either specified by localhost, IP address or host name). Instead I get an HTTP 502 Connection Failed error. By way of experimentation, I also installed Ajenti, which appears to use lighttpd rather than Apache or Tomcat, and it too works fine when connected to locally, but gives me the same HTTP 502 error when connected to remotely. So applications served from Apache work fine, but applications served from other services do not - does that ring a bell with anyone? It's been over 10 years since I last sysadmin'ed a Linux box, so I'm more than a little rusty!

    Hello, I'm looking for the proper way to share the Coldfusion engine for all my Virtual Hosts. This is how I have the virtual hosts configured on server.xml in the Tomcat conf: <Host name="localhost" appBase="webapps" unpackWARs="false" autoDeploy="true" xmlValidation="false" xmlNamespaceAware="false"> <Context path="" docBase="cfusion/" reloadable="true" privileged="true" antiResourceLocking="false" anitJARLocking="false" allowLinking="true"/> </Host> <Host name="mysite1" appBase="webapps" xmlValidation="false" xmlNamespaceAware="false"> <Context path="" docBase="/mnt/webroot/mysite1" /> </Host> This is not valid for me because I'm instantiating one Coldfusion process for every virtual host, and it requires me to copy the WEB-INF folder in every site. My question is, is there any way to share the same Coldfusion instance for every virtual host, mantaining the sites webroot outside of the cfusion folder? I'm using Apache Tomcat 6 and Coldfusion Enterprise edition 8. Many thanks.

  • Java Runtime.getRuntime().exec() alternatives

    I have a collection of webapps that are running under tomcat. Tomcat is configured to have as much as 2 GB of memory using the -Xmx argument. Many of the webapps need to perform a task that ends up making use of the following code: Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime(); Process process = runtime.exec(command); process.waitFor(); ... The issue we are having is related to the way that this "child-process" is getting created on Linux (Redhat 4.4 and Centos 5.4). It's my understanding that an amount of memory equal to the amount tomcat is using needs to be free in the pool of physical (non-swap) system memory initially for this child process to be created. When we don't have enough free physical memory, we are getting this: java.io.IOException: error=12, Cannot allocate memory at java.lang.UNIXProcess.<init>(UNIXProcess.java:148) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.start(ProcessImpl.java:65) at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(ProcessBuilder.java:452) ... 28 more My questions are: 1) Is it possible to remove the requirement for an amount of memory equal to the parent process being free in the physical memory? I'm looking for an answer that allows me to specify how much memory the child process gets or to allow java on linux to access swap memory. 2) What are the alternatives to Runtime.getRuntime().exec() if no solution to #1 exists? I could only think of two, neither of which is very desirable. JNI (very un-desirable) or rewriting the program we are calling in java and making it it's own process that the webapp communicates with somehow. There has to be others. 3) Is there another side to this problem that I'm not seeing that could potentially fix it? Lowering the amount of memory used by tomcat is not an option. Increasing the memory on the server is always an option, but seems like more a band-aid. Servers are running java 6.

  • Why does the the Java VM not recover after "Too many open files" errors?

    In certain well-understood circumstances, our application will open too many sockets (database connections) and reach the maximum open files that the OS allows. We understand this; we are fixing the issue and also bumping up the limit. What we can't explain is why parts of our application don't recover even after the number of connections abates and we're well within the limit. In this case, it's an application running under Tomcat. When this happens, we first start seeing "Too many open files" errors: SEVERE: Socket accept failed java.net.SocketException: Too many open files at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketAccept(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.accept(PlainSocketImpl.java:390) at java.net.ServerSocket.implAccept(ServerSocket.java:453) at java.net.ServerSocket.accept(ServerSocket.java:421) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.DefaultServerSocketFactory.acceptSocket(DefaultServerSocketFactory.java:61) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.JIoEndpoint$Acceptor.run(JIoEndpoint.java:310) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) Eventually, we start seeing NoClassDefFoundErrors inside an application thread that's trying to open HTTP connections: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/httpclient/protocol/ControllerThreadSocketFactory at org.apache.commons.httpclient.protocol.DefaultProtocolSocketFactory.createSocket(DefaultProtocolSocketFactory.java:128) at org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpConnection.open(HttpConnection.java:707) at org.apache.commons.httpclient.MultiThreadedHttpConnectionManager$HttpConnectionAdapter.open(MultiThreadedHttpConnectionManager.java:1349) [...] Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.commons.httpclient.protocol.ControllerThreadSocketFactory at org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1387) at org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1233) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:320) ... 8 more When the errant connections go away, the server starts accepting connections again, and everything seems ok, but we're left with the latter error constantly being spewed to stderr. Although the application typically logs unloaded classes to stdout, I don't see any such logs just before, during or after the "Too many open files" errors. My initial theory was that the Hotspot JVM would unload seemingly unused classes when it encounters "Too many open files," but if so, it doesn't log the fact. I'd also expect it to recover if that were the case.     in my previous question :-How to Setup RMI Server under(NAT/ISP) Now,i m able to start my RMI server by Installing apache Tomcat 6.0 server. i have also installed servlet programs into apache Tomcat server in order to enable HTTP tunneling. my servlet codes:- (1) [SimplifiedServletHandler.java][2] (2) [ServletForwardCommand.java][3] these servlets resides inside :- C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\ one more thing that i hv added to my CalcultorClient.java program:- try { RMISocketFactory. setSocketFactory(new sun.rmi.transport.proxy .RMIHttpToCGISocketFactory( )); }catch (IOException ignored) { System.out.println("Error :- ignored.getMessage()"); } But,when i try to make client connect with server(under ISP/NAT) i get the following Exception :- RemoteException java.rmi.UnmarshalException: Error unmarshaling return header; nested exception is: java.io.IOException: HTTP request failed i don't know the correct reason behind this Exception.. but,i think that i haven't installed or invoke my servlet programs properly on server side. so,can anybody tell me the correct reason behind this error/Exception????? and if u think that it is servlet problem then tell me the correct procedure to run my serlvet program inside tomcat server.
