• jQuery/Javascript framework efficiency

  My latest project is using a javascript framework (jQuery), along with some plugins (validation, jquery-ui, datepicker, facebox, ...) to help make a modern web application. I am now finding pages loading slower than I am used to. After some js profiling (thanks VS2010!), it seems a lot of the time is taken procesing inside the framework. Now I understand the more complex the ui tools, the more processing needs to be done. The project is not yet at a large stage and I think would be average functions. At this stage I can see it is not going to scale well. I noticed things like the 'each' command in jQuery takes quite a lot of processing time. Have others experienced some extra latency using JS frameworks? How do I minimise their effect on page performance? Are there best practices on implementation using JS frameworks? Thanks

  Hey guys, Iv'e just started a new Wordpress blog and i have started to build the JavaScript base! the issue im having is funnction a fucntion that loops several variables and includes the required JS libraries, what i need to do is execute the callback when the loop is finished! • jCarousel, IE6 and Fixed Width

  We are using jCarousel on our websites to display images. Simple enough. We have fairly flexible layouts so the carousels are not always the same width. FF, IE7+, Chrome, Safari etc work perfectly well taking up the space available. However IE6 ends up sending the jCarousel script into a loop and warns that a script is stopping the page from loading correctly. To stop IE6 from failing we are having to specify a fixed width in CSS for the carousel container. Is this a problem that others have had with IE6 and jCarousel?

  This question may sounds silly to you. Today I was following some instructions to install a software in Linux. There was a script that needs to be run first. It set some environment variables. The instruction told me to execute . ./setup.sh, but I made a mistake by executing ./setup.sh. So the env was not set. Finally I noticed this and proceeded. I want to know what exactly is the difference between both? I am completely new to Linux so please be as elaborate as possible.

  I need to load a custom cell in a UITableView. I created a custom subclass of UITableViewCell named "CustomTableViewCell". I have added a UITabelViewCell to the tableview (using drag and drop) as shown in figure. Then in file inspector I set the class of that UITabelViewCell to be "CustomTableViewCell". • Django syncdb not making tables for my app

  It used to work, and now it doesn't. python manage.py syncdb no longer makes tables for my app. From settings.py: INSTALLED_APPS = ( 'django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', 'django.contrib.sites', 'mysite.myapp', 'django.contrib.admin', ) What could I be doing wrong? The break appeared to coincide with editing this model in models.py, but that could be total coincidence.   I'm a perl scripter working in python and need to know a way to do the following perl in python. $Hash{$key1}[$index_value]{$key2} = $value; I have seen the stackoverflow question here: List of dictionaries, in a dictionary - in Python I still don't understand what self.rules is doing or if it works for my solution. My data will be coming from files, and will I will be using regexes to capture to temporary variables until ready to store in the data structure. If you need to ask, the order related to the $index_value is important and would like to be maintained as an integer. Any suggestions are appreciated or if you think I need to rethink data structures with Python that would be helpful.

  Hi, It is mentioned in the Apple's documentation that if we use UISPlitViewController in our app, then that should be the root view controller. In our iPone app we are showing splash screen for some seconds till the loading of the app finishes. Once it is loaded the home screen needs to be displayed in a SplitViewController. If we use SplitViewController as the root view. How will we show the splash screen which is displayed in a single view where as SplitVieController displays two ViewControllers. Please explain me the how this can be done.

  I am trying to generate all the solutions for the following equations for a given H. With H=4 : 1) ALL solutions for x_1 + x_2 + x_3 + x_4 =4 2) ALL solutions for x_1 + x_2 + x_3 = 4 3) ALL solutions for x_1 + x_2 = 4 4) ALL solutions for x_1 =4 For my problem, there are always 4 equations to solve (independently from the others). There are a total of 2^(H-1) solutions. • JBoss Seam: components injected into POJOs, but not Session Beans

  I have a Seam component that handles login, with the name "authenticator": @Name("authenticator") public class AuthenticatorAction implements Authenticator { @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; @In(required=false) @Out(required=false, scope = SESSION) private User user; public boolean authenticate(){ ... } } This works just fine, Seam injects the EntityManager instance. However, as soon as I add the @Stateless annotation, none of the injection happens! In this case, the EntityManager instance is null upon entry to the authenticate() method. Another interesting note is that with a separate stateful session bean I have, the Logger instance in that class is only injected if I make it static. If i have it non-static, it is not injected. Thats fine for the logger, but for stateless session beans like that, I obviously can't have static member variables for these components. I'm confused because this authenticator is exactly how it is in the Seam booking example: a stateless session bean with a private member variable being injected. Any ideas?

  I'm trying to use the bar_geom function of ggplot2, but I can't understand how to use it. I realize that I don't understand how ggplot2 functions as this small example does not work, yet my other example is generating a plot but I cannot specify a y-range as it considers the variables to be categorical.

  Hi, I am trying to use DataSet and DataAdapter to "filter" and "navigate" DataRows in DataTables. THE SITUATION: I have multiple logical objects, e.g. Car, Door and Hinge. I am loading a Form which will display complete Car information including each Door and their respective Hinges. In this senario, The form should display info for 1 car, 4 doors and 2 hinges for each door. Is it possible to use a SINGLE DataSet to navigate this Data? i.e. 1 DataRow in car_table, 4 DataRow in door_table and 8 DataRow in hinge_table, and still be able to navigate correctly between the different object and their relations? AND, able to DataAdapter.Update() easily? I have read about DataRelation but don't really understand how to use it. Not sure if it is the correct direction for my problem. Appreciate any advise.   Im trying to define a LinearLayout which contains another LinearLayout which should always be desplayed in the horizontal and vertical center. The LinearLayout (A) and the ImageView (B) is on the left side.... But i set gravity to center and right?? Why?

The global dispatcher function contains many variable initialization routines and these variables are then used in viewXX functions. So I feed that this is bad view design but I don't know how I can rewrite it?

• UIWebView finishes too fast

  I'm loading a biggish (and javascript-heavy) page into a UIWebView, and I want to add a UIActivityView to spin while it thinks. Problem is, my - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)webView method gets called quite a while before the rendering actually happens. Enough so that my spinner (which set to hide when stopped) never actually shows up. By the time the UI is even assembled, the spinner has already been stopped and hidden, even though there's enough time to wonder if it's broken before the UIWebView actually gets the goods to the screen. I wish there was a "webViewDidFinishRendering", but that would imply that WebKit is something other than lickedy-split fast... ;-) Thoughts? Perhaps I should toss the thing up and set a timer to come stop it, and unhook that from anything that's actually happening in the WebView?

  I'm creating thumbnails cycling through a lot of images, when I find a large image I get: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 13056 bytes) Now I already know how to circumvent this with: ini_set('memory_limit', '-1'); What I want to know is why it exhaust the memory! Is there some debug tools that will show me exactly when memory is exhausting? And specifically that will show me if there are variables/arrays that are killing my memory? OR, are there better way to resize images other then: $thumb=imagecreatetruecolor($newwidth,$newheight); $source=imagecreatefromjpeg($imgfile); imagecopyresampled($thumb,$source,0,0,0,0,$newwidth,$newheight,$width,$height); imagejpeg($thumb,$destinationfile,85); ? While the html() method properly evaluates the inline JS code, it doesn't download and evaluate the external JS file "myfile.js". Any tip for this issue?

• VB.net Net after load event?

  I need some way of knowing when a form has finished loading. My reasoning is I have a 2nd form that is loaded when this form loads. The code for this is called from form1.load. Form2 is currently being displayed behind form1 as I am guessing form1 calls an activate or similar at the end of the load so any Activate, BringToFront etc calls on from2 are over ridden. If you look at the code below I have tried adding frmAllocationSearch.Activate, frmAllocationSearch.BringToFront and Me.SendToBack after the call to ShowAlloactionSearchDialog() but these are all wasted as something is happening after the load event is fired to bring Me to the front. • What's the best way to view/analyse/filter huge traces/logfiles?

  this seems to be a reoccurring issue: we receive a bug report for our software and with it tons of traces or logfiles. since finding errors is much easier when having a visualization of the log messages/events over time it is convenient to use a tool that can display the progression of events in a graph etc. (e.g. wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org) for analyzing network traffic) what tool do you use for such a purpose? the problem with most tools i used so far is that they mercilessly break down when you feed them huge data traces ( 1GB) so some criteria for such a tool would be: can deal with huge input files ( 1 GB) is really fast (so you don't have to get coffee while a file is loading) has some sort of filtering mechanism

  Hello, What is the best way to use the custom UI graphics on the iPhone? I've come across CGContextDrawPDFPage and Panic's Shrinkit. Should I be using storing my vector ui graphics as PDF's and loading them using CGContextDrawPDFPage to draw them. I did previously asked what way Apple store their UI graphics and was answered crushed png. The options as I see it, but I would really want to know what technique other people use. This question is for vector graphics only. Looking for what is standard / most effective / most efficient.   In silverlight application I have MyTexts.resx (for english) and MyTexts.ja-JP.resx (for japanese) resource files. Before loading a page I can set current culture to japanese as following: Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = new CultureInfo("ja-JP"); Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("ja-JP"); But sometimes I need to reset culture to default. • Difference between normal and magic setters and getters

  I am using a magic getter/setter class for my session variables, but I don't see any difference between normal setters and getters. The code: class session { public function __set($name, $value) { $_SESSION[$name] = $value; } public function __unset($name) { unset($_SESSION[$name]); } public function __get($name) { if(isset($_SESSION[$name])) { return $_SESSION[$name]; } } } Now the first thing I noticed is that I have to call $session->_unset('var_name') to remove the variable, nothing 'magical' about that. Secondly when I try to use $session->some_var this does not work. I can only get the session variable using $_SESSION['some_var']. I have looked at the PHP manual but the functions look the same as mine. Am I doing something wrong, or is there not really anything magic about these functions.

• PHP / jQuery page change transition

  Hey all Basically I want to replicate the page changing effect found here, at http://timvandamme.com/ But instead of using #values I want to use PHP includes, mainly because I want the site to be as uber-seo-friendly as possible... but still have this nice effect. So is there a way of doing this? I have a main index file which includes other php files in the centre using the usual 'GET' method, so my pages look like: "index.php?page=about" In my jQuery code I want to have a declaration where if I click the navigation, the content scrolls up, then once the relevant PHP file has loaded, have the content scroll back down and show the new page content (whilst also of navigated to the new page in the address bar, so if the user clicks the back button in their browser, they return to the previous page). I know how to code the scrolling bits, it's just literally the ajax loading includes / page navigation parts I'm struggling to work out :\ Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.
