  • Object of type "X" cannot be converted to object of type "X"

    (Can't believe this hasn't already been asked, but I can't find a dup) In Visual Studio with lots of projects, when I first open the solution, I sometimes get the warning Object of type "X" cannot be converted to object of type "X". Generally rebuilding seems to make it go away, but does anyone know what this is caused by, and how to avoid it? UPDATE I read somewhere that deleting all your resx files and rebuilding can help. I unthinkingly tried this. Not a good idea...

  • .NET / WPF Alternative

    I know the .NET framework and WPF pretty well, but I think the whole thing has gotten too blown up, especially for small apps as the whole .NET framework 3.5 weighs 197 MB by now. I am looking for a language/framework/library that provides functionality similar to that of WPF (animations, gradients, a.s.o.) and the .NET framework (of course not everything, but the basic features) and which is faster and more lightweight than the .NET framework and creates smaller and faster applications than the ones using .NET. Do you have any suggestions?

  • Iframe covers navigation bar, needs close, open to fix?

    I have a small webpage with a form, iframe-d in. When I put invalid input inside the form, the iframe covers up the navigation bar and I can't get the navigation bar back without closing and opening the page again. I've been succesfully prompting the user for permission using FB.Connect.showPermissionDialog("email,offline_access"); But what I really want to do is prompt the user with a require permission dialog, not request.     I was told IBM no-longer uses Dojo. Is this true? A small amount of web searching shows IBM is/was a member of the Dojo Foundation and is/was a code contributor... If it is true, approximately when did IBM stop using Dojo? If its not, to what extend is IBM still actively using and promoting the toolkit (use in their public web sites, product integration/bundling, etc)?

  • How to find the ocean using Google Maps API

    I am trying to figure out where the ocean is in an arbitrary Google Maps view. I actually have the lat lon (a range of points, when joined together form the coastline) of the coastline. But how do I tell which side of this line is the coastline? One possible solution would be to find the latlon of the nearest service or town or business or something, and then the ocean is obviously on the other side (given a small enough enclosing polygon). Is there a better way?

  • Is there a way to iterate over all open windows in Mac OS X?

    When you unplug an external monitor with a higher resolution that your macbook from your laptop, the windows mostly retain their width, but their size gets clipped to the (smaller) height of the macbook screen. When you plug the monitor back in, their size remains frustratingly small. My question is: is there any way that I can iterate over all open windows, save their size, and restore them once the monitor gets plugged in again?

    Visual Studio 2010 has official Extensions for SharePoint 2010, which also includes MSBUILD .targets. I'm setting up a Continuous Integration Server at the moment, and msbuild can't compile my SharePoint projects as these targets are missing. Before I start manually identifying and copying over the SP stuff, I wonder if there is a standalone version so that I don't have to install VS2010 on my CI Server?

    I am developing a Delphi documents management application, so somehow I am giving the user some functionality similar to windows explorer. I would like to know if there is a way to get the preview used by windows explorer. For example windows explorer creates a small thumbnail for a pdf document for example, and displays it when the user chooses to view "big icons". Is there a way to retrieve that preview?     Hi, sometimes after logging out and in again, my settings in Tools/Options/Projects and Solutions/VC++ Directories are lost. To investigate the problem I tried to find the file where Visual Studio (2008 Team) stores those settings on disk. (Or is it in the registry?) Can anybody point me to where it is? Thanks a lot!

  • Soften a colour border, maybe with a gradient, programmatically.

    I have a narrow header in corporate colour, bright red, with the content below on a just-off-white background. Ive tried softening the long line where these colours meet using border type divs with intermediate backgrounds, but I think I need the original type curved gradient 'area transitions'. I could copy the 1024px wide, and too narrow (vertically), header gif from their web site, and chop it up for eight border images, but that seems clumsy, and I'm looking for something I can apply anywhere, without needing images. I am able to do round borders in the x-y plane, but I'm curious as to how I can apply a gradient to any chosen colour transition. The extra divs I'm using as border elements above and below '#top-section' arose when I was toying with making many divs for one bordered element. I am struggling with the "D" my understanding on Dependency Inversion I sometimes confuse with Dependency Injection is that as long as you keep things depending on abstraction (IE:interfaces) you are done.
