• Java type for date/time when using Oracle Date with Hibernate

  We have a Oracle Date column. At first in our Java/Hibernate class we were using java.sql.Date. This worked but it didn't seem to store any time information in the database when we save so I changed the Java data type to Timestamp. Now we get this error: springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'org.springframework.dao.an notation.PersistenceExceptionTranslationPostProcessor#0' defined in class path resource [margin-service-domain -config.xml]: Initialization of bean failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreatio nException: Error creating bean with name 'sessionFactory' defined in class path resource [m-service-doma in-config.xml]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is org.hibernate.HibernateException: Wrong column type: CREATE_TS, expected: timestamp Any ideas on how to map an Oracle Date while retaining the time portion? Update: I can get it to work if I use the Oracle Timestamp data type but I don't want that level of precision ideally. Just want the basic Oracle Date.

• Can't get Logback Eclipse plugin to display output

  I followed these instructions here: http://logback.qos.ch/consolePlugin.html I have the correct and found logback.xml, it is set up correctly, and the port is listening. Nothing shows up with logger.error("Test"); It logs to sysout fine when I remove logback.xml, which shows to me that the logback is working fine. I installed the plugin on linux by moving it to /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins ...The window shows up, but no logging events are showing up. I also added a catch all ACCEPT filter like on that link. Perhaps this is a linux permission issue?

  Hi everyone! I am trying to load external SWFs in my Adobe AIR App. The loaded SWF is trying to access an URL to retrieve some informations via XML. When starting the SWF by itself it works fine. When loading the SWF from the File.applicationStorageDirectory i will get an Security-Error because the loaded App is executed in a local-with-filesystem Sandbox appareantly. First Question: Is there a way to change this? That the loaded SWF is running in a network Sandbox? Since that first attempt didn't worked i've moved the SWF to the app:// directory. Now i'll get a Security-Error because there is no policy file on the Server available where the XML data should be retrieved. Second Question: Why is the policy file not necessary when running the SWF by itself, but is necessary when trying to load the data from the application Sandbox? What am i doing wrong? Using these urls can I make image url by appending any data values getting from the parser. http://musicbrainz.org/ws/1/artist/f27ec8db-af05-4f36-916e-3d57f91ecf5e?type=xml&inc=url-rels+artist-rels using these url i get data and set of urls.They are not providing image url or thumbnail. • Android: SlidingDrawer disappears under SurfaceView

  Hi, I'm trying to create a SlidingDrawer with LinearLayout content over a FrameLayout. At first it all seems fine, I get my SlidingDrawer's handle at the bottom of the screen. But then, if I start dragging the handle up and the content starts showing, it gets clipped by the border rectangle of the handle. If I drag the handle all the way up the entire content eventually gets shown, however if I now drag the handle down, it will be clipped by the border rectangle of the content. Also, if the handle is all the way up, as soon as I start dragging it the whole content disappears. I can still click on where the handle should be on the screen, drag it and the content would show, but I need to guess where the handle is. What seems to be causing this is the fact that I have a SurfaceView in the xml file just before SlidingDrawer. Removing the view from the xml solves this problem, however I need this view. • Dynamically populate an InfoPath DropownList with managed code

  I have an InfoPath form with custom C# code, and a Sharepoint list. I have a dropdownlist in the InfoPath form that I want to populate with a certain field from the Sharepoint list (I want the InfoPath dropdownlist to contain this field's value from every item in the Sharepoint list. I can successfully get the list of values I need from Sharepoint in my managed code, but I do not see how I can get these values into the dropdownlist (either bind to the list, or add each item in the list one by one). I thought I could modify the XML of the dropdownlist to insert my items, but the XML only contains the first item in the dropdownlist: <my:RelatedRiskID xmlns:my="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/myXSD/2009-07-20T18:12:59">Option 1</my:RelatedRiskID> I feel like this should be possible, but I can't find any resources on how to do it.   I've got a fairly simple, but potentially large structure to serialize. Basically the structure of the XML will be: <simple_wrapper> <main_object_type> <sub_objects> </main_object_type> ... main_object_type repeats up to 5,000 times </simple_wrapper> The main_object_type can have a significant amount of data. On my first 3,500 record extract, I had to give the JVM way more memory than it should need. So, I'd like to write out to disk after each (or a bunch of) main_object_type. I know that setting Marshaller.JAXB_FRAGMENT would allow it fragments, but I loose the outer xml document tags and the <simple_wrapper>. Any suggestions?

• Copied Netbeans IDE Maven Web project failes to compile

  If I am going to make serious changes to my project I like to make a copy (right click project and select copy). I have created copies of my projects many times (maven web applications included) without issue. Now all I do is copy the project making no changes, leaving the copy settings on default (project name etc) and then try to run it and spring decides to take issue with it. Again I try running the original and it works. I deleted the faulty copy, restarted and tried again and still it does not work. • Why is android:FLAG_BLUR_BEHIND creating a gradient background in my new activity instead of bluring

  Hi, I've got two activities. One is supposed to be a blur in front of the other. The background activity has several ImageViews which are set up as thin gradients extending across most of the screen and 10dip high. When I start the second activity it sets the background as a gradient occupying the entire window space, that is it appears to be fill_parent'd for both height and width. If I comment out the ImageViews then it blurs and looks as expected. Any thoughts?   Hi all. I am trying to build a Hudson plugin I've modified and it requires jdk1.6. This is fine, but I don't see how I can tell maven where the different jdk is. I've found few mentions on the internet but they don't seem to apply to me. Some suggest adding some config to .m2/settings.xml but I don't have a settings.xml. Plus, I don't want to use 1.6 for all maven builds. One kink is I am using mvn in cygwin, if that matters at all. It appears I should be able to make the specification in the project pom file, but the existing pom is pretty bare. So bottom line is, is there a way to specify a jdk for a single invocation of maven?

  Hey Guys, This question seems ridiculously easy, but I seem to be stuck. Lets say we have a table "Books" Each Book, has a name, description, and a status. Lets say I want to create link in the show view, that when clicked, solely changes the status (to "read") for example. So far, I've tried adding a block in the controller, that says: def read @book = Book.find(params[:id]) @book.status = "Read" @book.update_attributes(params[:book]) respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to :back} format.xml { render :xml => @book } end end Then I've added a link to the view that is like: <%= link_to "Read", read_book_path(@book), :method = :put % This isn't working at all. • XSLT Document function returns empty result on Maven POM

  Greetings! I want to extract some properties from different Maven POMs in a XSLT via the document function. The script itself works fine but the document function returns an empty result for the POM as long as I have the xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" in the project tag. If I remove it, everything works fine. Any idea how the make this work while leaving the xmlns attribute where it belongs or why this doesn't work with the attribute in place?   I'm trying to get basic http authentication working on my Rails app. I'm offering a simple REST interface served by a Rails server, only xml/json output. • Disable debug output in libxml2 and xmlsec

  Hi, In my software, I use libxml2 and xmlsec to manipulate (obviously) XML data structures. I mainly use XSD schema validation and so far, it works well. When the data structure input by the client doesn't match the XSD schema, libxml2 (or xmlsec) output some debug strings to the console. Here is an example: Entity: line 1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found DUMMY<?xml ^ While those strings are useful for debugging purposes, I don't want them to appear and polute the console output in the released software. So far, I couldn't find an official way of doing this. Do you know how to suppress the debug output or (even better) to redirect it to a custom function ? Many thanks.

• Which language/framework to use for this desktop internet application?

  I'd like to experiment with a new language/framework to work on some desktop tools for myself, which will do tasks related to internet services. I.e. i'd like to to monitor some of my servers for http or icmp response, also parse xml responses. I have experience with php, lua, mysql, and basic knowledge of java and c++. I'm also interested in exploring multithreading for this, background tasks and a responsive gui do need that as i have read. Being a private project, i certainly want to learn something new, but i don't have that much free time. The question for you would be which language and what framework to choose that could help me with this tasks: lightweight + fast gui (windows only would be ok, platform-independent even better) network/socket support, html module would be appreciated htmlview support xml "parsing" support (xpath or something like the phpish DOMDocument class) threading support Free software would be nice, but paying some bucks won't hurt me if it really helps the case.

• what special issues are at play when loading a config file from the comand prompt with DTExec

  If I run a package from the Management Studio, and specify a configuration file, everything works as expected. However if I try and run the package from the command prompt with DTExec I get the error: Cannot load the XML configuration file. The XML configuration file may be malformed or not valid. The command I'm using to execute the package is: dtexec /conf ConfigurationDemo.dtsConfig /f Package.dtsx I am running the dtexec from the folder where these two files reside. Is there an addtional switch or something that must used to get dtexec to behave the same was at the management Stduio in launching a package?

• What am I missing about WCF?

  I've been developing in MS technologies for longer than I care to remember at this stage. When .NET arrived on the scene I thought they hit the nail on the head and with each iteration and version I thought their technologies were getting stronger and stronger and looked forward to each release. However, having had to work with WCF for the last year I must say I found the technology very difficult to work with and understand. Initially it's quite appealing but when you start getting into the guts of it, configuration is a nightmare, having to override behaviours for message sizes, number of objects contained in a messages, the complexity of the security model, disposing of proxies when faulted and finally moving back to defining interfaces in code rather than in XML. It just does not work out of the box and I think it should. We found all of the above issues while either testing ourselves or else when our products were out on site. I do understand the rationale behind it all, but surely they could have come up with simpler implementation mechanism. I suppose what I'm asking is, Am I looking at WCF the wrong way? What strengths does it have over the alternatives? Under what circumstances should I choose to use WCF? OK Folks, Sorry about the delay in responding, work does have a nasty habbit of get in the way somethimes :) Some clarifications My main paint point with WCF I suppose falls down into the following areas While it does work out of the box, your left with some major surprises under the hood. As pointed out above basic things are restricted until they are overridden Size of string than can be passed can't be over 8K Number of objects that can be passed in a single message is restricted Proxies not automatically recovering from failures The amount of configuration while it's there is a good thing, but understanding it all and what to use what and under which circumstances can be difficult to understand. Especially when deploying software on site with different security requirements etc. When talking about configuration, we've had to hide lots of ours in a back-end database because security and network people on-site were trying to change things in configuration files without understanding it. Keeping the configuration of the interfaces in code rather than moving to explicitly defined interfaces in XML, which can be published and consumed by almost anything. I know we can export the XML from the assembley, but it's full of rubbish and certain code generators choke on it. I know the world moves on, I've moved on a number of times over the last (ahem 22 years I've been developing) and am actively using WCF, so don't get me wrong, I do understand what it's for and where it's heading. I just think there should be simplier configuration/deployment options available, easier set-up and better management for configuration (SQL config provider maybe, rahter than just the web.config/app.config files).
