  • WCF App using Peer Chat app as example does not work.

    I converted a VB .Net 3.5 app to use peer to peer WCF using the available Microsoft example of the Chat app. I made sure that I copied the app.config file for the sample(modified the names for my app), added the appropriate references. I followed all the tutorials and added the appropriate tags and structure in my app code. Everything runs without any errors, but the clients only get messages from themselves and not from the other clients. The sample chat application does run just fine with multiple clients. The only difference I could find is that the server on the sample is targeting the framework 2.0, but I assume that is wrong and it is building it in at least 3.0 or the System.ServiceModel reference would break. Is there something that has to be registered that the sample is doing behind the scenes or is the sample a special project type? I am confused. My next step is to copy all my classes and logic from my app to the sample app, but that is likely a lot of work.   • Where to intercept resolution of controller/view in ASP.Net MVC for customizations?

    I am trying to figure out where the appropriate place is to intercept the resolution of what view + controller is being called in ASP.Net MVC 2. I have a situation where I have a controller and a corresponding set of views. I also have the possibility of a customized version of both the controller and N of the views sitting in the project (or we may use something like Portable Views from the MvcContrib project). If the customized version of the controller or view(s) exists at run time, and the user satisfies certain criteria, I need to call the customized controller and use the appropriate customized view. At design/compile time we don't know what customizations may be in place. My first run at this was by using a custom controller factory that returns a custom controller if it exists. However, this controller is "wired up" to the standard view, and I cannot figure out how to return the customized view if it also exists. To complicate matters, there may be no customized controller but customized views, and visa-versa.

    In a comment to one of my answers, SO user sdcwc essentially pointed out that the following code: comb 0 = [[]] comb n = let rest = comb (n-1) in map ('0':) rest ++ map ('1':) rest could be replaced by: comb n = replicateM n "01" which had me completely stunned. Now I am looking for a tutorial, book or PDF that teaches these advanced concepts. I am not looking for a "what's a monad" tutorial aimed at beginners or online references explaining the type of replicateM. I want to learn how to think in monads and use them effectively, monadic "patterns" if you will.

Here is my code: #routes map.resources :customers, :has_many => [:addresses, :matchings] map.connect ":controller/:action/:id" #url path: http://127.0.0.1:3000/customers/index/3 #customers controller def index @customer = Customer.find(params[:id]) end #customers view/index.html.erb ... <%= @customer.name %> ... Error: undefined method `name' for nil:NilClass. Here's my reasoning. The parameter :id is coming from my url path (i.e. we're looking for customer #3 in the above path). @customer should find that array easily, then @customer.name should produce the name, but apparently @customer is blank. Why? I assume the problem is that I'm not producing an array in my controller?

  • How to presist the user authentication in SL3 + RIA

    I am developing SL3 + RIA services with custom authentication. I followed the example in http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/RiaServices/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2661 to implement custom authentication. Based on the implementation, you first do login request from client to service. This request is async process. Since login is async, the control will go back to GUI which then starts to do data bind in SL controls using RIA services, the services happens to requires the authentication to be successful (by adding [RequireAuthentication] attribute). The trouble is, since you requested login might not have completed before the data binding starts t this stage the authentication is false because of that data binding will fail. I would like to know if you require your web services to have 'RequireAuthentication' how would you wait for authentication to complete at the server side or client side. Appriciate the help.   • User Defined Class as a Template Parameter

    Hi, I' m implementing a custom STL map. I need to make sure that any data type (basic or user defined) key will work with it. I declared the Map class as a template which has two parameters for the key and the value. My question is if I need to use a string as the key type, how can I overload the < and operators for string type keys only?? In template specialization we have to specialize the whole class with the type we need as I understand it. Is there any way I can do this in a better way?? What if I add a separate Key class and use it as the template type for Key? Thank You!!

  • How do I detect a click event on a google maps PolyLine overlay?

    It seems to me that I should be able to do the following to detect a click event on a line on a google map: var line = new GPolyline( ... ); map.addOverlay(line); GEvent.addListener(line, "click", function(latlng){ alert("clicked"); }); The api reference says this is available in version 2.88, which was released in 2007(!?), so I'm assuming that's what I'm using, but I don't know how to confirm that. I also tried setting the {clickable:true} option explicitly (it's supposed to be the default.) I've tested in FireFox 3 and Opera 9.6 so doubt it's browser specific. I'm also using jQuery on the page. I have plenty of code detecting clicks on markers that works fine, clicking on lines would be really nice, can anyone enlighten me?

Users will have different custom metrics, businesses willl have seperate metrics, the admin section will have seperate, Advertises will have seperate, etc. So basically the goal is to have 1 framework in place for all Analytics, which will be custom user to user and even use that for the system analytic needs also. It will include data analytics as there will be user ratings/reviews to perfomr data mining on for businesses, USers will have basic reporting on their needs (like friend demographics, filter by different preferences, etc). System is being developed in cakePhp. Thanks.

  • Refactoring a long method that simply populates

    I am refactoring a method which is over 500 lines (don't ask me why) The method basically queries a list of maps from the database and for each map in the list does some computation and adds the value of that computation to the map. There are however too many computations and puts being done that the code has reached over 500 lines already!   • WiX - How do I prevent ComPlusAssembly being unregistered during uninstall?

    As part of my Installer, I am adding files to an existing COM+ package. I have defined a ComPlusApplication underneath my Product element, which has the name set to a property - I then have a custom action which looks up that property - all good so far. When the installer adds the files, within the same component I have added a ComPlusAssembly which adds the assembly to the ComPlusApplication I defined above - this is also working correctly. When uninstalled however, I am receiving an error related to being unable to find the COM+ application, this is because I am not running my custom action to look up the name of the COM+ package. Basically I do not want to remove my files or unregister the component package as part of the uninstallation process - How do I achieve this? I am using WiX 3.0 with VS2008. Thanks

  • How to infer the type of a derived class in base class?

    I want to create a method that allows me to change arbitrary properties of classes that derive from my base class, the result should look like this: SetPropertyValue("size.height", 50); – where size is a property of my derived class and height is a property of size. I'm almost done with my implementation but there's one final obstacle that I want to solve before moving on, to describe this I will first have to explain my implementation a bit: Properties that can be modified are decorated with an attribute There's a method in my base class that searches for all derived classes and their decorated properties For each property I generate a "property modifier", a class that contains 2 delegates: one to set and one to get the value of the property. Property Modifiers are stored in a dictionary, with the name of the property as key In my base class, there is another dictionary that contains all property-modifier-dictionaries, with the Type of the respective class as key. What the SetPropertyValue method does is this: Get the correct property-modifier-dictionary, using the concrete type of the derived class (<- yet to solve) Get the property modifier of the property to change (e.g. of the property size) Use the get or set delegate to modify the property's value Some example code to clarify further: private static Dictionary<RuntimeTypeHandle, object> EditableTypes; //property-modifier-dictionary protected void SetPropertyValue<T>(EditablePropertyMap<T> map, string property, object value) { var property = map[property]; // get the property modifier property.Set((T)this, value); // use the set delegate (encapsulated in a method) } In the above code, T is the Type of the actual (derived) class. I need this type for the get/set delegates. The problem is how to get the EditablePropertyMap<T> when I don't know what T is. My current (ugly) solution is to pass the map in an overriden virtual method in the derived class: public override void SetPropertyValue(string property, object value) { base.SetPropertyValue((EditablePropertyMap<ExampleType>)EditableTypes[typeof(ExampleType)], property, value); } What this does is: get the correct dictionary containing the property modifiers of this class using the class's type, cast it to the appropiate type and pass it to the SetPropertyValue method. I want to get rid of the SetPropertyValue method in my derived class (since there are a lot of derived classes), but don't know yet how to accomplish that. I cannot just make a virtual GetEditablePropertyMap<T> method because I cannot infer a concrete type for T then. I also cannot acces my dictionary directly with a type and retrieve an EditablePropertyMap<T> from it because I cannot cast to it from object in the base class, since again I do not know T. I found some neat tricks to infere types (e.g. by adding a dummy T parameter), but cannot apply them to my specific problem. I'd highly appreciate any suggestions you may have for me.

    I'm currently using a convention to (auto)map collection properties to backing fields in Fluent NHibernate. So, I map a property "Orders" to a field "_orders". The convention I'm using to do this is: public class HasManyAccessConvention : IHasManyConvention { public void Apply(IOneToManyCollectionInstance instance) { instance.Access.CamelCaseField(CamelCasePrefix.Underscore); } } Can I write a convention that maps a (collection) property to a field with a non-standard prefix (ignoring whether this is good coding practice for the present)? So, the property "Orders" would be mapped to "xyz_orders", for example. If so, how would I go about this?

    In the older version of the API, I'd have to insert the javascript into the page using something like this for just basic functionality to work: http://maps.google.com/maps?file=api&v=2&key=GoogleMapsAPIKey Where I had to configure the API key for each individual site. Looking at the documentation, it says to get a basic map working I just need this: http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=true/false Where does the API key fit in? Do I need to worry about it if I just plan on using a basic map and marker and none of the more advanced functions?

By example, for what I understand, adorners can add some controls to a UI element, but I think that the same behavior can be achieved through a custom control that contains the additional element. So, my question is: when should I prefer adorners to a more complex (but I think, more flexible) custom control? Please consider that I'm extensively using MVVM pattern and I would like to bind commands to the additional element.   • Grouped UITableView's cell separator missing when setting backgroundView with an image

    I have a grouped UITableView with a custom UITableViewCell class and I am adding a custom background image to each cell. However, when I do this, the cell's separator is not visible. If simply switch the table style to Plain instead of Grouped, the separator is showing up. I need the grouped table - how do I make the separator show up?   • WPF Binding not updating when binded object is updated

    I'm trying to bind to a custom control like so: <my:GanttChartTaskListView Name="ganttChartTaskListView1" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={x:Static local:TaskCollection.taskList}}" /> In my WPF Window constructor I add add an item to my taskList, when it loads I can see that item in my custom control, however, when I subsequently add items it does not update. I tried setting Mode=TwoWay, however, then it says the "Path" is required and I'm not familiar with binding like that (this is new to me). Here is my TaskCollection class: namespace ProjectManager { public static class TaskCollection { private static List<TaskItem> _taskList = new List<TaskItem>(); public static List<TaskItem> taskList { get {return _taskList; } set { _taskList = value; } } } } Any ideas?     I have a function that returns the indexes in seq s at which value v exists: (defn indexes-of [v s] (map first (filter #(= v (last %)) (zipmap (range) s)))) What I'd like to do is extend this to apply any arbitrary function for the existence test. My idea is to use a multimethod, but I'm not sure exactly how to detect a function. I want to do this: (defmulti indexes-of ???) (defmethod indexes-of ??? [v s] ;; v is a function (map first (filter v (zipmap (range) s)))) (defmethod indexes-of ??? [v s] ;; v is not a function (indexes-of #(= v %) s)) Is a multimethod the way to go here? If so, how can I accomplish what I'm trying to do?

  • Location accuracy of Google Analytics for Android

    When testing Google Analytics (version 2) for an Android project, I noticed that the Real Time map shows my location to be about 200 miles from my actual location. I'm running my project on a physical device, which leads me to believe that Google Analytics doesn't actually send any location information, but rather gets it from the phones IP address when the data is sent to Googles server. Is there any way to alter this behavior and provide my own location data using getLastKnownLocation() for example? Sending it as an actual Label/Action string would of course work, but that means I can't use Google Analytics fancy map feature to view where my users are coming from.

    I want to add a Custom field to the ContactsContract content provider. I'm trying to build a Voip application and would like to add a SIP address(name@domain) field to it. What MIME type will I need to associate with it? Also I want to add a group address field which will have a list of group addresses in it (name@domain, name@domain,...). Wich MIME type will I have to associate with this type of field. I also want to add custom fields to the Call History like a session ID and SIP address(name@domain) field. How can I customize the call history? It'll be great if someone can give me an example.
