  Hello, Currently, I have a build chain, completly manage by automake, like: .vala > .c > .o > .exe I would like add a new step for preprocess a XML file .ui into a vala source: .ui > .vala > .c > .o > .exe I did this, in makefile.am gtkbuilder2vala_SOURCES = \ abstract-window.ui \ main.vala \ $(NULL) And: XSLTPROC = xsltproc .ui.vala: $(XSLTPROC) ... But make don't understand: make: *** No rule to make target `abstract-window.c', needed by `gtkbuilder2vala-abstract-window.o'. Stop. This seems to be a limitation of make: http://www.ensta.fr/~diam/dev/online/autoconf/autobook/autobook_180.html if the translation takes three steps--from .m' to.x', then from .x' to.c', and finally to `.o'---then Automake's simplistic approach will break.   I have two plugins, say com.site.plugin.core and com.site.plugin.ui. I'd like to separate core part from UI part, so at plugin com.site.plugin.ui I created Preferences page where I defined some preferences, which should be used by com.site.plugin.core. I check article at Eclipse site, but it is quite outdated, and linked bug also do not provide much info. So is it possible to do this using standard Eclipse mechanism, or I need use direct low-level API via package org.eclipse.core.runtime.preferences?

  Trying to organize all my code into classes, and I can't get the database queries to work inside a class. I tested it without the class wrapper, and it worked fine. Inside the class = no dice. Is there a way for me to check to see if a specific one of those elevated out of browser Silverlight apps are currently running and if not programmatically start that app for the user? preferably without automation. • How to implement two way binding between an ActiveX control and a WPF MVVM View Model

  I have a WPF application implemented using the MVVM framework that uses an ActiveX control and I need to keep the WPF and ActiveX UI synchronised. So far I can update the ActiveX UI when I change the WPF UI using the code at the bottom of the question that I got from the article Hosting an ActiveX Control in WPF and this question. But I cannot update the WPF UI when I make a change in the ActiveX UI. I suspect that I need to fire the PropertyChanged event from my ActiveX control but I have no idea how to do this or if it is even possible. The ActiveX controls I have written are in VB6 and MFC as I am just prototying at this time for the eventual integration of VB6 ActiveX controls in a WPF contaner application.   Dear Stack Overflow gurus, I am looking for some practical/theoretical information regarding best practices for validation in asp.net mvc n-tier applications. I am working on a .Net application divided into the following layers: UI - Mvc3 BLL layer - all business rules. Decoupled from data access and UI layers through interfaces DAL layer - Data access with the repository pattern, EF4 and pocos Now, I am looking for a nice, clean and transparent way to specify my validation rules. Here are some thoughts on the matter so far: UI validation should only be responsible for user input and its validity. BLL validation should be handling the validity of the data regarding the application business rules. My main concern is how to bind the BLL and UI validation in the most efficient way. One think I am would like to avoid is having the UI check in a collection of validation and adding manually errors to the ModelState. Furthermore, I do not want to pass the ModelState to the BLL to be populated in there. I will appreciate any thoughts on the matter. P.S. Should this question be marked as a discussion ?

It looks like entlib is always using the selectedSource as it configuration.   Introduction I've always been searching for a way to make Visual Studio draw a line after a certain amount of characters: Below is a guide to enable these so called guidelines for various versions of Visual Studio. Visual Studio 2010 Install Paul Harrington's Editor Guidelines extension. Open the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Text Editor and add a new string called Guides with the value RGB(100,100,100), 80. The first part specifies the color, while the other one (80) is the column the line will be displayed. Or install the Guidelines UI extension, which will add entries to the editor's context menu for adding/removing the entries without needing to edit the registry directly. The current disadvantage of this method is that you can't specify the column directly. Visual Studio 2008 and Other Versions If you are using Visual Studio 2008 open the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\Text Editor and add a new string called Guides with the value RGB(100,100,100), 80. The first part specifies the color, while the other one (80) is the column the line will be displayed. The vertical line will appear, when you restart Visual Studio. • Unit Testing in the real world

  I manage a rather large application (50k+ lines of code) by myself, and it manages some rather critical business actions. To describe the program simple, I would say it's a fancy UI with the ability to display and change data from the database, and it's managing around 1,000 rental units, and about 3k tenants and all the finances. When I make changes, because it's so large of a code base, I sometimes break something somewhere else. I typically test it by going though the stuff I changed at the functional level (i.e. I run the program and work through the UI), but I can't test for every situation. That is why I want to get started with unit testing. However, this isn't a true, three tier program with a database tier, a business tier, and a UI tier. A lot of the business logic is performed in the UI classes, and many things are done on events. To complicate things, everything is database driven, and I've not seen (so far) good suggestions on how to unit test database interactions. How would be a good way to get started with unit testing for this application. Keep in mind. I've never done unit testing or TDD before. Should I rewrite it to remove the business logic from the UI classes (a lot of work)? Or is there a better way?

• Bootstrapper (setup.exe) says ".NET 3.5 not found" but launching .msi directly installs application

  Our installer generates a bootstrapper (setup.exe) and a MSI file - a pretty common scenario. One of the production machines reports a strange problem during install: If the user launches the bootstrapper (setup.exe), it reports that .NET 3.5 is not installed. This happens with account under administator group. No matter if they launch it as administrator or not, same behavior. the application installs fine when application.msi or OurInstallLauncher.exe (see below for explanation) is started directly no matter if run as administrator is applied. We have checked that .NET is installed on the machine (both 64bit and 32bit "versions" = under both C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64 and C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework there is a folder named v3.5. This happens on a 64 bit Windows 7. I can not reproduce it on my development 64 bit Windows 7. On Windows XP and Vista, it has worked without any problem for a long time so far.   With the jQuery datepicker, how does one change the year range that is displayed? On the jQuery UI site it says the default is "10 years before and after the current year are shown". I want to use this for a birthday selection and 10 years before today is no good. [author's comment] protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) // <-- This line { // This method draws the web part // TODO: add custom rendering code here. // Label label = new Label(); // writer.Write("Output HTML"); } } } The real reason for my concern is that in this chapter of the book the author frequently mentions the distinction between "old style" web parts, and "new style" web parts, as noted in his comment on the Render method. What's happened? Why has my default Web Part got a different signature to the authors?
