  • MySQL - how to retrieve columns in same row as the values returned by min/mx

    - by Gala101
I couldn't frame the Question's title properly.. Suppose a table of weekly movie Earnings as below, MovieName MovieGross WeekofYear Year So how do I get the names of top grossers for each week of this year If I do select MovieName , Max(MovieGross) , WeekofYear from earnings where year = 2010 group by WeekofYear; Then obviously query wont run, select Max(MovieName) , Max(MovieGross) , WeekofYear from earnings where year = 2010 group by WeekofYear; would just give movies starting with lowest alphabet Is using group-concat and then substring-index the only option here? select substring_index(group_concat(MovieName order by MovieGross desc),',',1), Max(MovieGross) , WeekofYear from earnings where year = 2010 group by WeekofYear ; Seems clumsy.. Is there any better way of acieveing this?

  • Import Data from Excel Spreadsheet or CVS into MySQL

    - by Kelly Roper
I have a spreadsheet which really has only one complicated table. I basically convert the spreadsheet to a cvs and use a groovy script to generate the INSERT scripts. However, I cannot do this with a table that has 28 fields with data within some of the fields on the spreadsheet that make importing into the CVS even more complicated. So the fields in the new CVS are not differentiated properly or my script has not accounted for it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better approach to do this? Thanks.

  • many to many relationship mysql select

    - by zeina
Let's consider 2 tables "schools" and "students". Now a student may belong to different schools in his life, and a school have many students. So this is a many to many example. A third table "links" specify the relation between student and school. Now to query this I do the following: Select sc.sid , -- stands for school id st.uid, -- stands for student id sc.sname, -- stands for school name st.uname, -- stands for student name -- select more data about the student joining other tables for that from students s left join links l on l.uid=st.uid -- l.uid stands for the student id on the links table left join schools sc on sc.sid=l.sid -- l.sid is the id of the school in the links table where st.uid=3 -- 3 is an example this query will return duplicate data for the user id if he has more than one school, so to fix this I added group by st.uid, yet I also need the list of school name related to the same user. Is there a way to do it with fixing the query I wrote instead of having 2 queries? So as example I want to have Luci of schools ( X, Y, Z, R, ...) etc

  • mysql_close(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource

    - by Illes Peter
    Here's what I'm trying to do: I've got a db.php file that does all the db manipulation. It has 2 static methods, connect and deconnect. In my other file i simply use db::connect() and db::deconnect(). The mysql_close($con) in the deconnect method just doesn't know who $con is. Since I don't want to instantiate my class static is the only way to go. Declaring 'private $con' in class db doesn't seem to have an effect. Any ideas? class db { public static function connect() { $dbData = parse_ini_file($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/config.ini'); $con = mysql_connect($dbData['host'],$dbData['user'],$dbData['pass']); $db = mysql_select_db($dbData['db']); if ((!$con) || (!$db)) return 0; else return 1; } public static function deconnect() { mysql_close($con); } }

  • Add results from MySQL?

    - by NardCake
Not quite sure how descriptive that title was but this is what I want to do. I scripted a URL shortener today and it's working fine, I just want to add some stats on the bottom of it saying how many links there are and how many clicks there are. Now everytime a user clicks one of the links it +1 the column in the database then it redirects the user. I want to query that and add all of those numbers together from each row. I attempted a while loop which im not surprised didn't work: while($rows = mysql_fetch_assoc($check_count)){ $clicks = $rows['clicks']; $clicks = $clicks+$clicks; } If you don't understand please ask and if you do understand it means alot for any response!

  • MySQL Removing Some Foreign keys

    - by Drew
I have a table whose primary key is used in several other tables and has several foreign keys to other tables. CREATE TABLE location ( locationID INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY ... ) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE TABLE assignment ( assignmentID INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, locationID INT NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY locationIDX (locationID) REFERENCES location (locationID) ... ) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE TABLE assignmentStuff ( ... assignmentID INT NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY assignmentIDX (assignmentID) REFERENCES assignment (assignmentID) ) ENGINE = InnoDB; The problem is that when I'm trying to drop one of the foreign key columns (ie locationIDX) it gives me an "ERROR 1025 (HY000): Error on rename" error. How can I drop the column in the assignment table above without getting this error?

  • MySQL : incrementing text id in DB

    - by BarsMonster
I need to have text IDs in my application. For example, we have acceptable charset azAZ09, and allowed range of IDs [aaa] - [cZ9]. First generated id would be aaa, then aab, aac, aad e.t.c. How one can return ID & increment lower bound in transaction-fashion? (provided that there are hundreds of concurrent requests and all should have correct result) To lower the load I guess it's possible to define say 20 separate ranges, and return id from random range - this should reduce contention, but it's not clear how to do single operation in the first place. Also, please note that number of IDs in range might exceed 2^32. Another idea is having ranges of 64-bit integers, and converting integer-char id in software code, where it could be done asyncroniously. Any ideas?

  • MYSQL, Subquery Reference in Union

    - by christian
Is there any way to reference a subquery in a union? I am trying to do something like the following, and would like to avoid a temporary table, but the subquery will be drawn from a much larger dataset so it makes sense to only do it once.. SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM ads WHERE state='FL' AND city='Maitland' AND page='home' ORDER BY RAND()) AS sq WHERE spot = 'full-banner' LIMIT 1 UNION SELECT * FROM sq WHERE spot = 'leaderboard' LIMIT 1 UNION SELECT * FROM sq WHERE spot = 'rectangle1' LIMIT 1 UNION SELECT * FROM sq WHERE spot = 'rectangle2' LIMIT 1 .... etc,, It's a shame that DISTINCT can't be specified for a single column of a result set.

  • Input questions mysql php html

    - by Marcelo
(Q1)Hi I'm using textbox in my project and I can't receive the values that are typed <textarea rows="5" cols="60"> Type your suggestion </textarea> <br> <input type="submit" name="sugestao" value="Submit" /> Sorry I don't know how to 'kill' html code, that's why < is missing. All I'm getting in the column of the database from this text box is "Submit", I'd like to receive whatever is written in the text area. How can I make the value equal whaterever is typed? (Q2) How can I make sure that I'll only store the same type(int, varchar, text) that I setted, declared in the database. For example: age(int), but if someone types "abc" in the input it will be stored in my database as the value 0 . How can I forbid this, and only save the age when it's just int and all the other fields(like name, email) are filled ?. And if is still possible warn the user that he is typing something wrong, don't need to say where. Sorry for any mistake in English and Thanks for the attention.

    - by alex
I always have trouble with complicated SQL queries. This is what I have $query = ' SELECT id, name, info, date_time FROM acms_events WHERE date_time = DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 1 HOUR) AND active = 1 ORDER BY date_time ASC LIMIT 6 '; I want to get up to 6 rows that are upcoming within the hour. Is my query wrong? It does not seem to get events that are upcoming within the next hour when I test it. What is the correct syntax for this? Thanks

  • MySQL - Join as zero if record Not IN

    - by Zurahn
To explain by example, take two tables, A and B Table A id foo 1 x 2 y 3 z Table B id aid bar 1 3 50 2 1 100 An example join SELECT foo, bar FROM a, b WHERE a.id = b.aid; Garners a result of foo bar z 50 x 100 What I would like to do is get all values of foo and for any instances where there isn't a corresponding bar value, return 0 for that column. My best guess was something along the lines of SELECT foo, bar AS br FROM a, b WHERE a.id = b.aid OR a.id NOT IN (SELECT aid FROM b); But that returns duplicates and non-zero values for bar. Possible?

  • How to query multiple tables with multiple selects MySQL

    - by brybam
I'm trying to write a php function that gets all the basic food data(this part works fine in my code) Then grabs all the ingredients related to the ids of the selected items from the query before. Anyone have have any idea why my second array keeps coming back as false? I should be getting 1 array with the list of foods (this works) Then, the second one should be an array with all the ingredients for all the foods that were previously selected...then in my code im planning to work with the array and sort them with the proper foods based on the ids. function getFood($start, $limit) { $one = mysql_query("SELECT a.id, a.name, a.type, AVG(b.r) AS fra, COUNT(b.id) as tvotes FROM `foods` a LEFT JOIN `foods_ratings` b ON a.id = b.id GROUP BY a.id ORDER BY fra DESC, tvotes DESC LIMIT $start, $limit;"); $row = mysql_fetch_array($one); $qry = ""; foreach ($row as &$value) { $fid = $value['id']; $qry = $qry . • Conditional SELECT MySQL

    - by user188693
Don't know if this is possible, but I'd like to select records based on the field value of recur_type, where the 'm' is the day of the week. If it's a weekly recurring event, I need to make sure this is a day it recurs on, otherwise, I want to return all days. however, I'm getting an empty result set: SELECT * FROM wp_fun_bec_events WHERE start_date <= '2009-10-12' AND ( end_date >= '2009-10-12' OR (recur_end > '0' AND recur_end >= '2009-10-12' ) ) AND ('m' IN ( CASE WHEN 'recur_type' = 'weekly' THEN recur_days ELSE 's/m/t/w/r/f/a' END ) ) ORDER BY start_date, start_time Any ideas??

  • MySQL query against pseudo-key-value pair data in WordPress custom query

    - by andrevr
I'm writing a custom WordPress query to use some of the data which the Woothemes Diarise theme creates. Diarise is an event planner theme with calendar blah, blah... and uses custom fields to store the event start and end dates in WP custom fields in the *wp_postmeta* table, which implements a key-value store. So for each post in the "event" category, there are 2 records in *wp_postmeta*, named *event_start_date* and *event_end_date* that I'm interested in. The task is to compare a tourist's arrival and departure dates with the start and end dates of events, yielding a what's on list of events available. We thought we'd killed it with a grand flash of logic, that goes like this: Disregard any event that ends before the tourist arrives, and any that begin after the departure date. I wrote this query: SELECT wposts.* FROM wp_posts wposts LEFT JOIN wp_postmeta wpostmeta ON wposts.ID = wpostmeta.post_id LEFT JOIN wp_term_relationships ON (wposts.ID = wp_term_relationships.object_id) LEFT JOIN wp_term_taxonomy ON (wp_term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id = wp_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id) WHERE wp_term_taxonomy.taxonomy = 'category' AND wp_term_taxonomy.term_id IN(3,4) AND ( wpostmeta.meta_key = 'event_start_date' AND NOT ( concat(subst(wpostmeta.meta_value,7,4),'-',subst(wpostmeta.meta_value,4,2),'-',subst(wpostmeta.meta_value,1,2) > '2010-07-31' ) ) AND ( wpostmeta.meta_key = 'event_end_date' AND NOT ( concat(subst(wpostmeta.meta_value,7,4),'-',subst(wpostmeta.meta_value,4,2),'-',subst(wpostmeta.meta_value,1,2) < '2010-05-01' ) ) ) ORDER BY wpostmeta.meta_value ASC And, of course it returns no records. The problem I believe is in the dual reference to wpostmeta.meta_key, but how to get around that?

  • mysql data read returning 0 rows from class

    - by Neo
    I am implementing a database manager class within my app, mainly because there are 3 databases to connect to one being a local one. However the return function isn't working, I know the query brings back rows but when it is returned by the class it has 0. What am I missing? public MySqlDataReader localfetchrows(string query, List<MySqlParameter> dbparams = null) { using (var conn = connectLocal()) { Console.WriteLine("Connecting local : " + conn.ServerVersion); MySqlCommand sql = conn.CreateCommand(); sql.CommandText = query; if (dbparams != null) { if (dbparams.Count > 0) { sql.Parameters.AddRange(dbparams.ToArray()); } } MySqlDataReader reader = sql.ExecuteReader(); Console.WriteLine("Reading data : " + reader.HasRows + reader.FieldCount); return reader; /* using (MySqlCommand sql = conn.CreateCommand()) { sql.CommandText = query; if (dbparams != null) { if (dbparams.Count > 0) { sql.Parameters.AddRange(dbparams.ToArray()); } } MySqlDataReader reader = sql.ExecuteReader(); Console.WriteLine("Reading data : " + reader.HasRows + reader.FieldCount); sql.Parameters.Clear(); return reader; }*/ } } And the code to get the results query = @"SELECT jobtypeid, title FROM jobtypes WHERE active = 'Y' ORDER BY title ASC"; //parentfrm.jobtypes = db.localfetchrows(query); var rows = db.localfetchrows(query); Console.WriteLine("Reading data : " + rows.HasRows + rows.FieldCount); while (rows.Read()){ } These scripts return the following : Connecting local : 5.5.16 Reading data : True2 Reading data : False0

So when I execute 1st time this script, the auto increment primary keys begin to 1 to 15 (if 15 objects) and if I want to reload data, I reexecute the script. My issue is when I execute it again, pks numbers begin to 16 (for 2nd launch), I would like each time auto_increment begins to 1, is it possible whitout regenerating tables structure each time ? Thanks

But how?
