• How to free up space on /boot? [closed]

• PHP PDO bindValue() weird problem

The code as it is above doesn't work, it doesn't return anything so the while loop isn't executed. If I replace $_GET['index'] with a number, like 10, it works just fine, it returns 10 rows. Echoing $_GET['index'] displays a number, so it should pass a number. I've also tried bindParam, but the result is same. Why isn't this working?

• Excel tables creation upon MySQL data import (new feature in MySQL for Excel 1.2.x)

  In this blog post we are going to talk about one of the features included since MySQL for Excel 1.2.0, you can install the latest GA or maintenance version using the MySQL Installer or optionally you can download directly any GA or non-GA version from the MySQL Developer Zone. Remember how easy is to dump data from a MySQL table, view or stored procedure to an Excel worksheet? (If you don't you can check out this other post: How To - Guide to Importing Data from a MySQL Database to Excel using MySQL for Excel). In version 1.2.0 we introduced some advanced options for the Import MySQL Data operation regarding Excel tables. The Advanced Options dialog shown above is accessible from any Import Data dialog. When the Create an Excel table for the imported MySQL table data option is checked (which is by default), MySQL for Excel will create an Excel table (also known in Excel jargon as a ListObject) from the Excel range containing the imported MySQL data. This "little feature" enables the right-away usage of the Excel table in data analysis, like including it for summarization on a PivotTable, including a summarization row at the end of the table's data, sorting or filtering the table's data by clicking the drop-down button next to each column's header, among other actions. The Excel tables that are created automatically from imported MySQL data will have a name like [UserPrefix].<SchemaName>.<DbObjectName> for tables and views, and <Prefix>.<SchemaName>.<ProcedureName>.<ResultSetName> for stored procedures.  Notice the first piece of the name is an optional [UserPrefix], the prefix is only used if the Prefix Excel tables with the following text option is checked, notice that the suggested prefix is "MySQL" but it can be changed to whatever text is suitable for you. Excel tables must have a table style so they are easily identified. There are a lot of predefined Excel table styles, by default the MySqlDefault style is applied, which is the style you have seen applied to imported data for Edit Sessions, and which adds simple and elegant formatting to the table. If you wish to change it to any of the predefined Excel table style you can do it through the drop-down list on the Use style [[styles drop-down]] for the new Excel table option. Excel tables are the basic construction blocks for building data analysis or self-service Business Intelligence using other more advanced Excel tools like Power Pivot, Power View or Power Map. This feature empowers imported MySQL data to use it in more advanced ways.  We hope you give this and the other new features in the 1.2.x version family a try! • autoLink for map not working

  I have the following TextView in my XML layout file:- <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/autolink_test" android:autoLink="all" /> The string autolink_test contains a phone number, an email address, a website address and a physical geographical address. While the first three are showing up correctly as clickable autolinks, the address does not. Only the zipcode part shows up as an autolink... and that too as a phone number! (When I click it, the phone dialer starts up with that number). Any help would be appreciated.

• R heatmaps - non-text labels?

  I am making a heatmap plot; currently the axes are labeled by index number. However, the index number corresponds to a series of 1/0s, which my group typically represents with a row of filled(1) or unfilled(0) boxes (think chessboard, though not strictly alternating colors). I'd like to use that representation instead of the index numbers. Any suggestions? I've considered simply making the labels as a plot, and positioning that adjacent to the heatmap, but I'm not finding a convenient way to do that either. I will also appreciate answers that are more generically applicable. edit - current code: map <- data.matrix(read.csv("./heatmap.out", header=F, sep=" ")) # ...some clean-up p<-heatmap(map, Rowv=NA, Colv=NA, col=grey(10:0 / 10)) this simply labels the heatmap rows/cols by index number. heatmap.out is raw numeric data.

(or of this number +1 i suppose). (also as a bit of an aside question, I've been told that the way i format my code is bad [indentation and such] what am i doing that isn't desirable?)

Edit: it occurs to me that perhaps a sorted hash table is an oxymoron. If so, what's the best way to get access to a sorted list of the things here?

I ran "sudo apt-get -f install" and found the problem to be: mysql-server-5.5 depends on mysql-server-core-5.5 (= 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1); however: Version of mysql-server-core-5.5 on system is 5.5.28-0ubuntu0.12.04.2. So, the question is, how do I install that version and resolve the dependency problem?

If you used auxiliary storage in your algorithm, can you find an algorithm that does not require it? what i am interested to know is the second part. i.e without using auxiliary storage . do you have any idea?

• Achieving Zero Downtime Deployment

  I am trying to achieve zero downtime deployments so I can deploy less during off hours and more during "slower" hours - or anytime, in theory. My current setup, somewhat simplified: Web Server A (.NET App) Web Server B (.NET App) Database Server (SQL Server) My current deployment process: "Stop" the sites on both Web Server A and B Upgrade the database schema for the version of the app being deployed Update Web Server A Update Web Server B Bring everything back online Current Problem This leads to a small amount of downtime each month - about 30 mins. I do this during off hours, so it isn't a huge problem - but it is something I'd like to get away from. Also - there is no way to really go 'back'. I don't generally make rollback DB scripts - only upgrade scripts. Leveraging The Load Balancer I'd love to be able to upgrade one Web Server at a time. Take Web Server A out of the load balancer, upgrade it, put it back online, then repeat for Web Server B. The problem is the database. Each version of my software will need to execute against a different version of the database - so I am sort of "stuck". Possible Solution A current solution I am considering is adopting the following rules: Never delete a database table. Never delete a database column. Never rename a database column. Never reorder a column. Every stored procedure must be versioned. Meaning - 'spFindAllThings' will become 'spFindAllThings_2' when it is edited. Then it becomes 'spFindAllThings_3' when edited again. Same rule applies to views. While, this seems a bit extreme - I think it solves the problem. Each version of the application will be hitting the DB in a non breaking way. The code expects certain results from the views/stored procedures - and this keeps that 'contract' valid. The problem is - it just seeps sloppy. I know I can clean up old stored procedures after the app is deployed for awhile, but it just feels dirty. Also - it depends on all of the developers following these rule, which will mostly happen, but I imagine someone will make a mistake. Finally - My Question Is this sloppy or hacky? Is anybody else doing it this way? How are other people solving this problem?

• A few questions about integrating AudioKinetic Wwise and Unity

  I'm new to Wwise and to using it with Unity, and though I have gotten the integration to work, I'm still dealing with some loose ends and have a few questions: (I'm on Unity 4.3 as of now but I think it shouldn't make any difference) The base path: The Wwise documentation implies you set this in the AkGlobalSoundEngineInitializer basePath public ivar, which is exposed to the editor. However, I found that this variable is not really used. Instead, the path is hardcoded to /Audio/GeneratedSoundBanks in AkBankPath. I had to modify both scripts to actually look in the path that I set in the editor property. What's the deal with this? Just sloppyness or am I missing something? Also about paths: since I'm on Mac, I'm using Unity natively under OS X and in tadem, the Wwise authoring tool via VMWare and I share the OS X Unity project folder so I can generate the soundbanks into the assets folder. However, the authoring tool (downloaded the latest one for Windows) doesn't automatically generate any "platform-specific" subfolders for my wwise files. That is, again, the Unity integration scripts assume the path to be /Audio/GeneratedSoundBanks/<my-platform>/ which in my case would be Mac (I set the authoring tool to generate for Mac). The documentation says wwise will automatically generate the platform-specific folders but it just dumps all the stuff in GeneratedSoundBanks. Am I missing some setting? cause right now I just manually create the /Mac folder. The C# methods AkSoundEngine.PostEvent and AkSoundEngine.LoadBank for instance, have a few overloads, including ones where I can refer to the soundbanks or events by their ID. However, if I try to use these, for instance: AkSoundEngine.LoadBank(, AkSoundEngine.AK_DEFAULT_POOL_ID) where the int I got from the .h header, I get Ak_Fail. If I use the overloads that reference the objects by string name then it works. What gives? Converting the ID header to C#: The integration comes with a C# script that seems to fork a process to call Python in turn to covert the C++ header into a C# script. This always fails unless I manually execute the Python script myself from outside Unity. Might be a permissions thing, but has anyone experienced this? The Profiler: I set up the Unity player to run in the background and am using the "Profile" version of the plugin. However, when I start the Unity OS X standalone app, the profiler in VMWare does not see it. This I'm thinking might just be that I'm trying to see a running instance of the sound engine inside an OS X binary from a Windows virtual machine. But I'm just wondering if anyone has gotten the Windows profiler to see an OS X Unity binary. Different versions of the integration plugin: It's not clear to me from the documentation whether I have to manually (or write a script to do it) remove the "Profile" version and install the "Release" version when I'm going to do a Release build or if I should install both version in Unity and it'll select the right one.   I need to store a set of numbers in a database which are imported from a spreadsheet. Sometimes a number is just a number. But in other times, a value can be "missing", "N/A", or blank and these all represent different things. What would be a good approach to store these numbers in the database? Originally I only had to account for N/A. So I made it -1 as I imported them (this only works if the number can never be negative obviously). I could use other negative numbers for other statuses. However, that seems clunky to me. Should I store the numbers as string then apply conversion at use time? Should I create a matching table that stores different statuses of each value?

  I was recently wondering how http://500px.com calculates their "Pulse" rating. The "Pulse" is a score from 1..100 based on the popularity of the photo. I think it might use some of the following criteria: Number of likes Number of "favorites" Number of comments Total views maybe the time since the photo has been uploaded maybe some other non-obvious criteria like the users follower count, user rank, camera model or similar How would I achieve some sort of algorithm like this? Any advice on how to implement an algorithm with this criteria (and maybe some code) would be appreciated too.

When the page loads I expected the value in the textbox to be (394)456-310_ But it displays (_39)445-6310 Why is this happening?

• "Mem Usage" higher than "VM Size" in WinXP Task Manager

  In my Windows XP Task Manager, some processes display a higher value in the Mem Usage column than the VMSize. My Firefox instance, for example shows 111544 K as mem usage and 100576 K as VMSize. According to the help file of Task Manager Mem Usage is the working set of the process and VMSize is the committed memory in the Virtual address space. My question is, if the number of committed pages for a process is A and the number of pages in physical memory for the same process is B, shouldn't it always be B = A? Isn't the number of pages in physical memory per process a subset of the committed pages? Or is this something to do with sharing of memory among processes? Please explain. (Perhaps my definition of 'Working Set' is off the mark). Thanks.
