  • Windows 7 Desktop as Bluetooth Mixer

    I would like to stream all the audio from my Droid X2 to my desktop running Windows 7 via bluetooth. When I pair the two devices I can make this work but the audio plays through the internal speakers. I am actually wanting to listen to everything through a pair of bluetooth headphones. The end result would be that I could listen to music from my phone but easily pause it to listen to audio from the desktop instead. So far I have not had any luck. I thought about connecting the line out to the line in so I could monitor the line in from my headphones. My current setup is wiring the phone to the line in and then monitoring the line in through the headphones. I'm just wanting to eliminate the wire and go wireless the whole way. Is there something in Windows that prevents it from taking an inbound audio stream and sending it out another device?

  • Incremental search for un/accented characters

    Does emacs have an incremental search mode, where searching for a character will search for itself and for any other versions of the character with accent marks, similar to how Google Chrome (at least v27) will do when searching in a page? Alternatively, is there an additional library or piece of elisp code that can put incremental search in such a mode? For example, incremental search for: 'manana', would find 'manana' or 'mañana' 'motley crue', would also find 'Mötley Crüe' (with case-sensitivity off). Even a solution that only covers a subset of these characters would be helpful.

  • Why can I no longer pin tabs in Google Chrome?

    I am using the latest dev channel version of Chrome in Ubuntu 9.10. Before Chrome automatically updated a few days ago, I had the option to pin tabs. This option no longer appears when I right-click on a tab. Is anyone else having these problems? If not, any idea what I can do to fix this? Thanks.

  • VGA passthrough and desktop virtualization

    In short, my dream is to have one machine with multiple paravirtualized desktop and server guests, one of which has to be a Windows desktop with powerful graphics. As Windows can't be paravirtualized in the normal sense of the word, I was quite happy when I heard about VGA passthrough, but then I read on. As I understand it, such a setup would mean that the Graphics will be dedicated to one particular guest, thus you wouldn't be able to switch between guests. If this is in fact so, would someone please explain to me what the purpose/use of VGA passthrough is? I can think of no real use for it. Yes it's a cool technology, but to me it seems pointless. It's true that it's possible to passthrough individual VMs to separate GPUs, which is also cool, but in the end I should think that two seperate computers would make life a whole lot simpler. Again it seems rather pointless.

  • Windows 7 Desktop background picture in Group Policy displaying black - XP working correctly

    We want everyone on the Windows Domain to have the same desktop background. This is set up in a Group Policy. This works great in Windows XP but the Windows 7 machines display a black background. I have re-created the Group Policy, done various tests with different types and sizes of files Enabling and Disabling Active Desktop. I have researched and tried some options and patches from Microsoft as well. Any idea what I can try or even how to determine the problem?

  • How do I skip the Keep/Cancel dialog for downloads in Google Chrome?

    This question is specifically for PDF files, because I work with them all day and have to download 20+ at a time. I use an extension called Linkclump which selects all links at one time. Since I disabled the Chrome PDF Viewer, these now automatically download (which I intended). The only problem is I get 20+ dialogs across the bottom of my screen that ask me if I want to Keep or Cancel my downloads. Seriously? I have to click Keep on every single one of them. This did not happen before in Chrome, the change was added a few versions ago I believe. Oh, and I'm using Chrome Dev v14.0.803.0.

  • Missing Desktop Icon Labels in Windows 7

    Hey guys. Big problem that has been bothering me to no end. My desktop icons have been stripped of their icon labels, and nothing seems to be recovering them. To be clear, when I attempt to rename, the text shows up, and when I view my desktop in an explorer window, all text is preserved. System restore to a stock state will not recover. No changes have been done to the computer-- no installs or downloads for two weeks prior to this error. Rebuilt the icon cache, still no response. Anybody know what can be causing this problem?   • Migrating from Desktop PC to real Server

    i am a student, working as a part-time Administrator at a startup. I never ever used a real Server ( only a Desktop Pc with apache ) The Company i am working for is growing and they want to switch to a real Server. My idea would be to use the Ubuntu build-in Backup function and use this Backup file as Base for the Rack-Server, but i don't know, which problems i would run into. Is it a good idea ? So basically my question is : *What is the easiest way to migrate from a Desktop PC to a real Rack-Server? ( on an Ubuntu Server) *

  • cygwin ssh shortcut on windows desktop

    I have multiple servers that I need to remote into. I prefer Cygwin over Putty to do so. Anyhows - the process of opening my cool Mintty window and then typing the following commands takes too long. PS - I am using a "key" authentication to these servers. First, I double Click Cygwin Terminal shortcut from my windows desktop. Then once the terminal session has booted up, from the command prompt I type the following - $ eval `ssh-agent` $ ssh-add $ ssh <username>@<servername> Please keep in mind that my 'servername' is variable. In fact I have about 10 different server names that could potentially be inserted there - Hence my need for 10 different shortcuts. I would prefer to double click on something from my desktop that will fire up my Mintty and automatically execute the above bash shell commands. Does anyone have or can recommend a nice/elegant solution to do this?

  • Sync laptop and desktop solution/ideas?

    I have a laptop and a desktop I want to keep files up-to-date on both of them. I was thinking of creating a hard drive on 'server' and then changing "my documents" to that server path. It should work all right when there are two computers but what if a laptop uses wireless access at my house and more importantly, when it's connected wirelessly on a different IP range when I'm at college? For the second case, I guess, creating a VPN/remote server connection to the desktop will work, but if I want to make it automatic (my documents mapping), is there way to do that?

  • Efficient method of finding database rows that have *one or more* qualities from a list of seven qualities

    Hello! For this question, I'm looking to see if anyone has a better idea of how to implement what I'm currently planning on implementing (below): I'm keeping track of a set of images, using a database. Each image is represented by one row. I want to be able to search for images, using a number of different search parameters. One of these parameters involves a search-by-color option. (The rest of the search stuff is currently working fine.) Images in this database can contain up to seven colors: -Red -Orange -Yellow -Green -Blue -Indigo -Violet Here are some example user queries: "I want an image that contains red." "I want an image that contains red and blue." "I want an image that contains yellow and violet." "I want an image that contains red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet." And so on. Users make this selection through the use of checkboxes in an html form. They can check zero checkboxes, all seven, and anything in between. I'm curious to hear what people think would be the most efficient way to perform this database search. I have two possible options right now, but I feel like there must be something better that I'm not thinking of. (Option 1) -For each row, simply have seven additional fields in the database, one for each color. Each field holds a 1 or 0 (true/false) value, and I SELECT based on whatever the user has checked off. (I didn't like this solution so much, because it seemed kind of wasteful to add seven additional fields...especially since most pictures in this table will only have 3-4 colors max, though some could have up to 7. So that means I'm storing a lot of zeros.) Also, if I added more searchable colors later on (which I don't think I will, but it's always possible), I'd have to add more fields. (Option 2) -For each image row, I could have a "colors" text field that stores space-separated color names (or numbers for the sake of compactness). Then I could do a fulltext match against search through the fields, selecting rows that contain "red yellow green" (or "1 3 4"). But I kind of didn't want to do fulltext searching because I already allow a keyword search, and I didn't really want to do two fulltext searches per image search. Plus, if the database gets big, fulltext stuff might slow down. Any better options that I didn't think of? Thanks! Side Note: I'm using PHP to work with a MySQL database.

    Are you tired of making simple writing mistakes that get past your browser’s spell-check?  Here’s how you can get advanced grammar check and more in Firefox and Chrome with After the Deadline. Microsoft Word has spoiled us with grammar, syntax, and spell checking, but the default spell check in Firefox and Chrome still only does basic checks.  Even webapps like Google Docs don’t check more than basic spelling errors.  However, WordPress.com is an exception; it offers advanced spelling, grammar, and syntax checking with its After the Deadline proofing system.  This helps you keep from making embarrassing mistakes on your blog posts, and now, thanks to a couple free browser plugins, it can help you keep from making these mistakes in any website or webapp. After the Deadline in Google Chrome Add the After the Deadline extension (link below) to Chrome as usual. As soon as it’s installed, you’re ready to start improving your online writing.  To check spelling, grammar, and more, click the ABC button that you’ll now see at the bottom of most text boxes online. After a quick scan, grammar mistakes are highlighted in green, complex expressions and other syntax problems are highlighted in blue, and spelling mistakes are highlighted in red as would be expected.  Click on an underlined word to choose one of its recommended changes or ignore the suggestion. Or, if you want more explanation about what was wrong with that word or phrase, click Explain for more info. And, if you forget to run an After the Deadline scan before submitting a text entry, it will automatically check to make sure you still want to submit it.  Click Cancel to go back and check your writing first.   To change the After the Deadline settings, click its icon in the toolbar and select View Options.  Additionally, if you want to disable it on the site you’re on, you can click Disable on this site directly from the popup. From the settings page, you can choose extra things to check for such as double negatives and redundant phrases, as well as add sites and words to ignore. After the Deadline in Firefox Add the After the Deadline add-on to Firefox (link below) as normal. After the Deadline basically the same in Firefox as it does in Chrome.  Select the ABC icon in the lower right corner of textboxes to check them for problems, and After the Deadline will underline the problems as it did in Chrome.  To view a suggested change in Firefox, right-click on the underlined word and select the recommended change or ignore the suggestion. And, if you forget to check, you’ll see a friendly reminder asking if you’re sure you want to submit your text like it is. You can access the After the Deadline settings in Firefox from the menu bar.  Click Tools, then select AtD Preferences.  In Firefox, the settings are in a options dialog with three tabs, but it includes the same options as the Chrome settings page.  Here you can make After the Deadline as correction-happy as you like.   Conclusion The web has increasingly become an interactive place, and seldom does a day go by that we aren’t entering text in forms and comments that may stay online forever.  Even our insignificant tweets are being archived in the Library of Congress.  After the Deadline can help you make sure that your permanent internet record is as grammatically correct as possible.  Even though it doesn’t catch every problem, and even misses some spelling mistakes, it’s still a great help.   • What is the performance hit of enabling sessions on Google App Engine?

    What is the performance hit of enabling sessions on the Google App Engine? I just turned on <sessions-enabled>true</sessions-enabled> in my Google App Engine app and now my requests are consistently using 100 more ms of CPU time than before I enabled it. It also makes the user wait an additional 100ms for the server to respond on each request. This seems to be quite a significant cost, I'm not even calling getSession or using it in any way yet and it still adds this extra latency. Is there something I can do to speed this up?

  • JQuery Ajax returns status 0 in Google Chrome, works fine with other browsers.

    Hello, I am using jQuery ajax, and it worked very well until I tried the site in Google Chrome. I am directed to the success handler. However, when I printed the status of the XMLHttpRequest, I got a 0. The responseText is empty as well. This only happens in Google Chrome. I tried the same code on Safari, Firefox, and Opera, they are worked correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Which SEO practises are likely to be responsible for SO questions appearing so quickly in Google sea

    Does anyone have some idea as to how come questions posted here on SO are showing up so quickly on Google?. Sometimes questions submitted are appearing as the first 10 entries or so - on the first page within 30 minutes of submitting a question. Pray tell, what sort of magic is being wielded here? Anybody have some ideas, suggestions?. My first thought is that they have info in their sitemap that tells google robots to trawl every N minutes or so - is that whats going on? BTW, I am aware that simply instructing Googlebots to scan your site every N minutes will not work if you dont have quality information (that is constantly being updated on your site). I'd just like to know if there is something else that SO may be doing right (apart from the marvelous content of course)

  • Why does the ID of Google's OpenID implementation change?

    I'm trying to implement OpenId login for a web application. Whenever new user who logs in via OpenId I create a new user on the sustem, and among the data I store their openid URL, so that next time they login with that user. I'm testing this with my Gmail OpenID, and the problem is that everytime I do this, Google sends a different openid URL, that is, https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=SomethingThatChangesFromTimeToTime Of course I'm then not able to tell wheter this is or not a new user. I'm a bit puzzled: shouldn't the openid identifier always remain the same?

  • how to create an excel file in google app engine (java)?

    A question that seems to have quite a few options for Python, but none for Java after googling for two days. Really really could use some help all I have found so far is a recommendation to use gaeVFS to build an excel file from the xml components and then zip it all together which sounds like a slap in the face. Oh yes and if you were wondering I am questioning my use of Java rather than python but at 5,000 lines of code it would be insane to turn back now... Other things you might find useful Client: GWT Server: Servlets running on google app engine storing data into the google data store Excel file: mandatory, CSV isn't good enough, no need to save the file just to be able to "serve" it to the client i.e. open a "Save As" box.
