  • CSS3PIE issues in IE6 and 8

    - by Gordon
I'm using CSS3PIE to apply some rounded corners to elements in Internet Explorer that will get them by stylesheet in other browsers. I've run into some issues with it though. In IE8, I discovered that any element that had the PIE behaviour would behave strangely. The container would jump a few pixels to the right, but the content would stay in its original position, giving the appearance that the content had all shifted left relative to its container. This would be especially problematic on elements with no or small amounts of padding. I was able to hack my way around the problem in IE8 by using X-UA-Compatible, but I'd rather avoid this solution if at all possible. I don't have access to IE9 for testing but my understanding hacks like PIE aren't necessary and it would be wasteful to force a compatibility mode in a browser that doesn't need it. I have worse issues in IE6, with the PIE layout breaking down completely on a list that is set up to use display:inline; zoom:1; list items (to simulate inline-block, which works in IE8 and the other browsers). Here the borders of the list items get rendered in completely the wrong place. So ideally, I'd like to have PIE work properly in IE6, and in IE8 without having to resort to compatibility mode. As far as IE6 goes, a graceful fallback where PIE is just not applied will do. IE7 is the only browser where the page displays as intended. I can't provide an example page just at the moment unfortunately, I can add one later though. Follow up: Here are some screen grabs made with IE Tester. I'm hoping they will make things a little more clear for everybody. As you can see, IE7 is fine. However, in IE8, the containers are offset to the left relative to their content, and in IE6 the list elements (with the rounded 1 pixel border) are a complete mess! Full size versions for IE8, IE7 and IE6 are also available

  • Problems re-populating select options in Rails when form returned with errors

    - by Rick
I have a form with 2 select options in it -- frequency and duration. When there are errors with the form, and it is returned to the browser, the select options are not re-populated with the selections the user made even though the returned values for those fields match the values of options in the selects. Also, when the form is returned, these fields are not marked as having errors even though their values are blank. Here's the frequency and duration fields in Rails <%= frequency_select c, :frequency %> <%= duration_select c, :duration %> The method for frequency_select is def frequency_select(f, method) options = [["day", 1.day], ["other day", 2.days], ["week", 1.week]] f.select method, options, :include_blank => true end And the method for duration_select is def duration_select(f, method, unit="day" ) values, units = *case unit when "day" : [[[5, 5], [15, 15], [30, 29]], "days"] when "other day" : [[[15, 15], [30, 29], [45,45]], "days"] when "week" : [[[4, 29], [6, 43], [8, 57]], "weeks"] end f.select method, values.map {|(label, i)| ["#{label} #{units}", i.days]}, :include_blank => true end If you enter a value into one or both of these fields and submit the form without completing part of it (any part of it), the form is returned to the user (as would be expected), but the duration and frequency fields are not re-populated with the user's selection. If I add this bit of code to the form <p><%= @challenge.attributes.inspect %></p> I see that this for duration and frequency when the form is returned to the browser: "duration"=>3888000, "frequency"=>172800 These values match values on the options in the select fields. Is there anything special in Rails that needs to be done so that the select fields are re-populated with the user's selections? Any thoughts on what the problem could be or what I should try next? Help is greatly appreciated! -Rick PS If you look at some of the other questions, you'll notice I've asked about this in the past. At one point, I thought the form was returning values for frequency and duration in days rather than seconds, but that's not the case. PPS Here's one other bit of information that might matter, but my tests indicate that it probably does not. (Though, I'm a bit of a newbie to this, so don't take my word for it.) These two fields are chained together using the cascade jquery plugin. The javascript is included on the page (not in a separate file) and some of the js is being created by Rails. First, here are the scripts as they appear in the browser. The first is the script to generate the options for the duration select and the second is the script required by the Cascade plugin to trigger the field chaining. <script type="text/javascript"> var list1 = [ {'When':'86400','Value':' ','Text':' '}, {'When':'172800','Value':' ','Text':' '}, {'When':'604800','Value':' ','Text':' '}, {'When':'86400','Value':'432000','Text':'5 days'}, {'When':'86400','Value':'1296000','Text':'15 days'}, {'When':'86400','Value':'2505600','Text':'30 days'}, {'When':'172800','Value':'1296000','Text':'15 days'}, {'When':'172800','Value':'2505600','Text':'30 days'}, {'When':'172800','Value':'3888000','Text':'45 days'}, {'When':'604800','Value':'2505600','Text':'4 weeks'}, {'When':'604800','Value':'3715200','Text':'6 weeks'}, {'When':'604800','Value':'4924800','Text':'8 weeks'} ]; function commonTemplate(item) { return "<option value='" + item.Value + "'>" + item.Text + "</option>"; }; function commonMatch(selectedValue) { return this. When == selectedValue; }; </script> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery("#challenge_duration, #user_challenge_duration").cascade("#challenge_frequency, #user_challenge_frequency",{ list: list1, template: commonTemplate, match: commonMatch }) }); </script> And here's a bit of the the first script as it is in the erb file -- you see that some of the script is being generated by Rails <%= [ [1.day, [[5, 5], [15,15], [30, 29]], "days"], [2.days, [[15, 15], [30, 29], [45, 45]], "days"], [1.week, [[4, 29], [6, 43], [8, 57]], "weeks"]].map do |(frequency, durations, unit)| durations.map do |(label, value)| "{'When':'#{frequency}','Value':'#{value.days}','Text':'#{label} #{unit}'}" end end.join(",\n") -%> Now, the reason I don't think that it matters whether the duration is being generated with JS is the problem still exists if I remove all the JS the problem also affects the frequency field, whose options are not being generated by the JS

  • How to access a website's url programmatically from within the page

    - by Jeff
For work, I am working on a site that has a feature that lets users make custom instances of the site depending on who they want to show it to. So if they want to show their potential employer a little bit about themselves, they can send them a custom url, that has a uid on the end of it that tells the database what to show and what not to when the site is loaded up. Now, I need to be able to take the value that is on the end of the url, this unique uid that corresponds with their preferences in the db, accessable on run time. Meaning that when someone types in this custom url, I need to be able to show the name of the person whose portfolio is being viewed BEFORE password authentication takes place... If I could get the URL, I suppose I could parse through it to find the necessary UID...but how do I get the url? Maybe I am just missing something here, but if anyone has any thoughts or ideas, it would be appreciated!! Thanks

  • How can I merge CSS definitions in files into inline style attributes, using Perl?

    - by mintywalker
Many email clients don't like linked CSS stylesheets, or even the embedded <style> tag, but rather want the CSS to appear inline as style attributes on all your markup. BAD: <link rel=stylesheet type="text/css" href="/style.css"> BAD: <style type="text/css">...</style> WORKS: <h1 style="margin: 0">...</h1> However this inline style attribute approach is a right pain to manage. I've found tools for Ruby and PHP that will take a CSS file and some separate markup as input and return you the merged result - a single file of markup with all the CSS converted to style attributes. I'm looking for a Perl solution to this problem, but I've not found one on CPAN or by searching Google. Any pointers? Alternatively, are there CPAN modules one could combine to achieve the same result? Ruby http://code.dunae.ca/premailer.web/ PHP http://www.pelagodesign.com/sidecar/emogrifier/ Perl ?

  • .Net in HTML tp return true if reader object not null, otherwise return false

    - by Phill Healey
I'm using a DataList to show some data from the database and populating the fields on the html side. I now have a requirement to change the visibility of a panel based on whether or not a db field has data or not. I need to be able to show the panel if the relevant data field has content, and hide it if it doesn't. Eg: <asp:Panel ID="pnlNew" runat="server" Style="margin:0; padding:0; width:42px; height:18px; bottom:5px; right:10px; float:right; position:relative; background:url(../_imgVideoBadge.png) no-repeat;" Visible='<%# Eval("cheese") != null %>' ToolTip="available"></asp:Panel> Obviously this doesn't work in terms of the visible property. But hopefully it gives an idea of what I'm trying to achieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've seen examples previously of doing something along the lines of: a ?? b:c How could this be applied to the above requirement?? Thanks in advance.

  • What to do with a big image that's slowing website loading down significantly

    - by Dave
Hi I'm working on a website that's already been designed by someone else. The designer has used a big image (900x700 100KB) which contains a big logo right across the top, then the background for two columns. This image loads every time a page is loaded as it forms the basis for the website. What should I do with it to improve loading time? I'm considering splitting it up into two or more images, especially the logo on the top. Does splitting up images like that decrease loading time in any significant way? Thanks -edit: Also, all the images are .jpg, would changing this to .gif or .png help anything?

  • Giving the script tag an ID

    - by The Code Pimp
Hi guys, i came across a scenario where giving a <script> element an "ID" would solve a problem easily. However, after reading about the script tag at w3schools and quirksmode, it seems doing so could have some unforeseen consequences. Has anyone come across any of these issues with modern browsers such as Chrome, Safari, FF3 up and IE 7 up? Thanks

  • Rotating png images using css in IE

    - by Ernest Shulikovski
Here is a mockup for something called "Diversity Disc": http://diversity.iest.pl/ It is just three disks that you can rotate and read "results". I am using there just four png images, and rotate using jQuery f.i: $.fn.rleft = function() { return this.animate({ rotate: '-=45deg' }); }; It works not so bad in most new browser. But in all versions of IE things go terribly wrong. There is problem with rotation, and with png: after rotation, there is happening something very ugly with alpha transparency of those images. So my question is, is this possible to make it work in IE 8 and 7 (and, more or less IE 6?). If no I will be forced to order it in Flash. But I would like first to try to do it using just css and javascript (svg?). So what I am doing wrong? Do you have any tips, for using different technology, or js library? Thank you in advance for any answers.

  • php smarty not passing to browser unless logged in.

    - by Kyle Sevenoaks
I'm not the best at understanding these things with php and smarty, but this is really annoying. On: http://www.euroworker.no/order, there is meant to be a display of the amount of tax included in the price like: Tax (25%): 772,- Totalt: 3861,- But unless the user has logged in or created a new account, the tax doesn't display. Here is the Smarty code: <tr id="taxtr"> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>&nbsp;</td> {foreach $cart.taxes.$currency as $tax} <td>&nbsp;</td> <td colspan="4" class="subTotalCaption2">{$tax.name_lang}:&nbsp;</td> <td class="amount taxAmount2">{$tax.formattedAmount}&nbsp;</td> {$cart.formattedTotal.$currency {$GLOBALS.cartUpdate|@array_shift} {/foreach} </tr> I don't know about all the inner workings of this system (Livecart), but is there anything I can do or look through to make it force the calculation/display. Thanks..
