• iPhone plist data, large amounts of text and return key?

  Basicly iv built my app using a plist. But with the data there is a few times when I need to press return and start a new line. The return key doesn't work in the plist. If I did it the older way it would be \n\n but that doesn't work either. Is there a obvious way I'm overlooking? Or will it be a case off just pressing the space bar allot? Thanks

• Google Chrome sync: limit for bookmarks & extensions?

  Actually, Chrome is my favorite web-browser, and one of its most powerful features is synchronizing the actual data into a Google account. For the last years I gained a lot of bookmarks and from time to time browse the extensions gallery to find new valuable ones. Really, synchronizing between my work and home PC's freed me from manual sync. And for the recent months I experience strange glitches. I guess it may be caused by a lot of stored bookmarks (potentially about 3K [in estimate], but please don't ask why :)) and extensions (about 130 installed but only 10-15 daily used). I can mention the following strange things: Recently added bookmarks sometimes are not synchronized (e.g. I put a bookmark at work, but it's not guaranteed I can see it that evening), despite about:sync indicates a good sync process. Sometimes recently modified bookmarks appear in either (let's call) last at home or last at work bookmark folders. Sometimes bookmarks are not synced at all. (Moreover, Chromium versions may even crash) Extensions are not synced now at all. Perhaps, there's another reason, but Google Mail Checker and Google Reader Notifier do not show indicators of incoming e-mails and news. ... I'm not sure but it looks like I might exceed Chrome internal sync limits... Is it right? Are there any workarounds, or should I make a massive bookmarks/extensions cleanup (I really don't want it :()? I mostly use Google Chrome Canary builds, and the my current one is 12.0.732.0. Thanks in advance. Update #1 (2001-04-19): I removed about 50 extensions that I'm not interested in (or that I consider as trash), and gained pretty some results: The extensions count is below 100 (exactly 97); The chrome://extensions page does not get slow (or even frozen) any more on enabling/disabling/uninstalling extensions; The extensions are seem to be synchronized now again.

• Nokogiri Doc Element Not Returning Correctly

  I am trying to scrape a wiktionary entry: uri = URI.parse("http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/" + CGI.escape('abjure')) doc = Nokogiri::HTML(open(uri, 'User-Agent' => 'ruby')) but the doc shows no elements for this word. The other words work fine and this word used to work. I have no idea what changed. Anyone see anything wrong with this?

• Bash script, read values from stdin pipe

  I'm trying to get bash to process data from stdin that gets piped it, but no luck, what I mean is none of the following work: echo "hello world" | test=($(< /dev/stdin)); echo test=$test test= echo "hello world" | read test; echo test=$test test= echo "hello world" | test=`cat`; echo test=$test test= where I want the output to be test=hello world. Note I've tried putting "" quotes around "$test" that doesn't work either.

• Problem with upper-case and lower-case xpath functions in selenium IDE

  Hi, I am trying to get a xpath query using the xpath function lower-case or uppper-case, but they seem to not work in selenium (where I test my xpath before I apply it). Example that does NOT work: //*[.=upper-case('some text')] I have no problem locating the nodes I need in complex path and even using aggregated functions, as long as I don't use the upper and lower case. Has anyone encountered this before? Does it make sense? Thanks.

• Chrome browser completely messing with network?

  I have a bizare problem with Google Chrome on a intel core i5 running windows 7 32bit. Whenever chrome is installed, access to other computers in the home group becomes really slow - such as opening shares. Its becomes really slow to resolve windows names. Something goes hay-wire with the local network - pining local machines which is usually 0mS pings I get random timeouts and random successes. Whenever I try to load a local address inside of chrome (including localhost, 192.168.0.1 etc) - it always says something in the status bar about resolving proxy and times out after about 5 seconds, then seems to work fine. If I go to settings inside of chrome, it just brings up the internet explorer connection settings, where I have not set any proxy settings. One I uninstall chrome, all these problems go away. Network shares and name resolvings work instantly, pings to any machines never have a problem. Localhost and other network IP address work fine in all other browsers. Anyone heard of this problem before and know what it might be? I even tried re-installing winodws 7 and the problem came straight back when chrome was loaded on again.

• How to use different scaling for every monitor?

  One of the new features in Windows 8.1 is the new "Desktop display scaling", which allows user to configure scaling per monitor. I've been trying to get this working in preview but with no success. If I configure the scaling, it always affects all of my monitors. I have two monitors, the main one with a higher resolution and the secondary with "normal" resolution. The secondary monitor is used in portrait mode. I would like to configure the main monitor's scaling as the text is currently too small. Here's how things look at the configuration screen by default: Now if I adjust the scaling, click apply and do relogin, everything is bigger. On both of my monitors. I haven't clicked the "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays", but still the slider seems to affect both of them. If I check the "Let me choose one scaling level", the UI changes to look similar to what we have in Windows 8: Still the problem persists. The scaling is applied to both of my monitors. So, it doesn't matter if I check the box or not, the scaling is always applied to all the displays. Any idea how I could get this to work in preview? I've read some comments which seem to indicate that this should work in preview, though Paul Thurrott mentioned at his Winsupersite article that he either didn't get this to work.

• Verify client certificate CN in Tomcat(APR)

  I'm running a tomcat installation with the APR libraries installed (with the OpenSSL HTTPS stack that comes with it). What I'm trying to do is to lock a specific HTTPS connector down to users of a specific certificate. Adding client certificate verification is no issue, but I can't get it to validate against a specific Common name only. I was perhaps a bit naïve and thought the mod_ssl attribute SSLRequire typically used in Apache Httpd would work, but that property is not recognized by the Tomcat implementation. (http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/config/http.html#SSL%20Support points to some mod_ssl docs, but the Tomcat implementation does not seem to cover all aspects of mod_ssl). I can get this to work by using the Java version of the connector instead of APR (losing some performance) and just add a trust store with that one certificate in it. Since they are a somewhat distributed team, though, all of the issue management / work management must be done via an electronic tool (we currently use Trac). • getting sound on .asf video on Mac OS X

  When I try to open the following video: http://streaming1.hss-win.rpi.edu/ondemand/cogsci/issues_in_cs/issues_in_cogsci_02_04_2009.asf I can get it but without any sound... I tried it both inside the browser (Firefox) and in QuickTime Media player but still it does not work. Any idea how to get this to work on Mac OS X? Using version 10.6. thank you.

No message etc. I've used the following in my .bashrc if [ -f ~/.bash_completion ]; then . ~/.bash_completion fi I also tried to use .bash_profile instead, but with the same result. • What should I be doing while I wait for a progress bar?

  So I am sitting here waiting for a progress bar to run (20 mins or so), and was wondering how best to use my time as a SysAdmin. I debated not posting this question briefly, as this could get flagged as subjective, but I think it's an important question, and a question that can be legitimately answered (per the FAQ) I know this something a lot of sys admins deal with, especially if they are client-based I would venture to guess. There is a lot of material out there about how to multi task, but SysAdmin work is unique in this area as well. I could switch over to another project, but I could get wrapped up in that, and forget about the original project I was working on, and that's hard if you are billing a client for your time, both for tracking your time, as well as being fair to that client. I could check ServerFault, but that isn't directly work related, I could sort my email, so on and so forth. What do you do, or what should I do when I have time waiting for a progress bar? Thanks!   I was wondering if anyone was familiar with any attempts at algorithmic sentence negation. For example, given a sentence like "This book is good" provide any number of alternative sentences meaning the opposite like "This book is not good" or even "This book is bad". Obviously, accomplishing this with a high degree of accuracy would probably be beyond the scope of current NLP, but I'm sure there has been some work on the subject. • IIS URl Rewrite working inconsistently?

  I'm having some oddness with the URL rewriting in IIS 7. Here's my Web.config (below). You'll see "imported rule 3," which grabs attempts to access /sitemap.xml and redirects them to /sitemap/index. That rule works great. Right below it is imported rule 4, which grabs attempts to access /wlwmanifest.xml and redirects them to /mwapi/wlwmanifest. That rule does NOT work. (BTW, I do know it's "rewriting" not "redirecting" - that's what I want). So... why would two identically-configured rules not work the same way? Order makes no different; Imported Rule 4 doesn't work even if it's in the first position. Thanks for any advice! It has made me all but forget about textmate (which imho still beats netbeans for the little things) What do you think is the one awesome netbeans feature I should know about, and more importantly why and how do I use it?
