• I receive the error 'grub-install /dev/sda failed' while attempting to install Ubuntu as the computer's only OS.

  I am attempting to install Ubuntu on a box which was previously running Windows 7. I have also experienced the dreaded "Unable to install GRUB" error. I am not attempting to dual boot. I have previously run a Windows boot disk and removed all existing partitions. If I run the Ubuntu 12.04 install CD and click install after the config screens, I get the error Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error. (It is the same error as this question: Unable to install GRUB) All the questions I've read while looking for a solution are related to dual boot. I'm not interested in dual boot, I'm after a clean out the box Ubuntu install. How can I achieve this? (For my sanity, please use very simple instructions when responding. I don't claim to have any talent either for linux or as a sysadmin) Additional details copied from comments dated: 2012-05-29 ~15:19Z After booting from the CD, clicking Try Ubuntu, and then sudo fdisk /dev/sda I get fdisk: unable to seek on /dev/sda: Invalid argument sudo fdisk /dev/sdb gives Device contains neither a valid DOS partiion table, nor Sun, SGI or OSF disklabel. Building a new DOS disklabel with disk identifier 0x15228d1d. Changes will remain in memory only until you decide to write them. After that of course, the previous content won't be recoverable. Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partition table 4 will be corrected by w(rite). Command (m for help): I should add the Live CD desktop is graphically bad. I've got missing parts of programs and the terminal occasionally reflects to the bottom of the screen. But I can't imagine this is related.

  i have raring ringtail. I installed gnome a couple days ago. I try to install extensions but the site says I don't have the latest version. • Create and Share a File (Also a mysterious error)

  My goal is to create a XML file and then send it through the share Intent. I'm able to create a XML file using this code FileOutputStream outputStream = context.openFileOutput(fileName, Context.MODE_WORLD_READABLE); PrintStream printStream = new PrintStream(outputStream); String xml = this.writeXml(); // get XML here printStream.println(xml); printStream.close(); I'm stuck trying to retrieve a Uri to the output file in order to share it. I first tried to access the file by converting the file to a Uri File outFile = context.getFileStreamPath(fileName); return Uri.fromFile(outFile); This returns file:///data/data/com.my.package/files/myfile.xml but I cannot appear to attach this to an email, upload, etc. If I manually check the file length, it's proper and shows there is a reasonable file size. Next I created a content provider and tried to reference the file and it isn't a valid handle to the file. The ContentProvider doesn't ever seem to be called a any point. Uri uri = Uri.parse("content://" + CachedFileProvider.AUTHORITY + "/" + fileName); return uri; This returns content://com.my.package.provider/myfile.xml but I check the file and it's zero length. How do I access files properly? Do I need to create the file with the content provider? If so, how? Update Here is the code I'm using to share. Are you missing a call to unregisterReceiver()? I've researched this error and can't find anything obvious. Both of these links suggest that I need to unregister a receiver. • Multisystem Script won't work! "Syntax error:redirection unexpected" Worked 2 days ago?

  this is my first question. I use Multisystem all of the time and have installed it on both Kubuntu and Ubuntu and have used it with no issues. I wiped my hard drive to try some new OSs I'm now using the exact same OS (Ubuntu 12.05) I used to load my USB stick to begin with and now I'm getting this ridiculous syntax error. I know the script is correct, I'm following the exact same steps I used to get to this point and I'm getting different results ?!?! I'm very confused by this. I have no clue how to begin addressing this issue. I get the same syntax error on Kubuntu now too, which did have multisystem installed. I run "sh install-depot-multisystem.sh" and get "Syntax error:redirection unexpected", this worked literally 2 days ago. The only thing that has changed is my face has grown some more facial hair and my head hurts from bangin it against the wall over this issue. The OS is exactly the same, the script is the same; but now it won't install. I'm lost and really hoping someone can help. Append Just to append to this a bit https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ub...er/000264.html I needed to do a chmod 777 on the script, I'm still getting a syntax error on Kubuntu...but it did install successfully. I'll mark this as resovled! Thanks anyway, I'll try to spruse up on my Linux skills.

• C - Error with read() of a file, storage in an array, and printing output properly

  I am new to C, so I am not exactly sure where my error is. However, I do know that the great portion of the issue lies either in how I am storing the doubles in the d_buffer (double) array or the way I am printing it. Specifically, my output keeps printing extremely large numbers (with around 10-12 digits before the decimal point and a trail of zeros after it. Additionally, this is an adaptation of an older program to allow for double inputs, so I only really added the two if statements (in the "read" for loop and the "printf" for loop) and the d_buffer declaration. • LitJSON's JsonMapper.ToJson error: Max allowed object depth reached while trying to export from type

  I have an object that I would like to convert to json inside one of the object's methods. I'm using LitJson library. Like so: protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { ... writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Value, JsonMapper.ToJson(this)); .... } However JsonMapper.ToJson(this) produces a server error "Max allowed object depth reached while trying to export from type System.Drawing.Color". My guess is that because its trying to convert an object inside itself its going into some kind of infinite loop. Just curious what is actually happening.

  I've pasted the example from php.net for using memcached in php and I'm getting: Fatal error: Class 'Memcache' not found I have this in my php.ini: [memcache] memcache.hash_strategy = "consistent" memcache.max_failover_attemps = 100 memcache.allow_failover = 1 Here's info from php -i and php -m respectively: php -i | grep -i memcache memcached memcached support = enabled libmemcached version = 0.37 Registered save handlers = files user sqlite memcached php -m | grep -i memcache memcached So php seems to have loaded memcached as a module, and php info says that it is loaded and is using v .37. I have not tried yet via apache, I've only been using this through cli right now. Any thoughts?

• Visual Studio 2012 crashes everytime I try to debug with error CLR20r3

  Everytime I try to debug one of my apps I get the below error message. Anyone have any ideas? I tried running Visual Studio in safe mode but I get the same thing. I also tried to repair the install and completely reinstall it with no luck :(. • CFBundleVersion error even though new version is higher

  When trying to upload an upgrade binary to iTunes Connect, I am getting this error message even though I have updated CFBundleVersion in my info.plist file to a higher value (and checked the package contents after building it to be sure it copied over). I have already successfully submitted a different app upgrade by doing this same method, but for whatever reason it won't work this time. Any insights or is this an iTunes bug? The binary you uploaded was invalid. The key CFBundleVersion in the Info.plist file must contain a higher version than that of the previously uploaded version.

  I have a 2010 project that is targeting .NET v3.5. It was working fine until I started to mess with configurations a bit and now I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. The project doesn't have ANY references added.   Hey all, I'm building OpenCV2.1 from top of branch in 64 bit mode, when I link the libraries against my code (that works in 32 bit mode on XP), I get the dialog: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002) Click OK to close the application" When I start the application. The event viewer is pointing at one of the OpenCV dll's & says it's a Side-by-Side error, but I'm definitely building OpenCV & my code as a 64 bit compile, and there are no errors during that process. I've tried fiddling with the /MTd options & it doesn't help. Some (almost) related questions have suggested installing the VS2008 redistributable package, but I'm building using vs2008 pro, that seems like madness? Is it still necessary to install the package in my case? Any help, including the cause of these side-by-side errors, would be appreciated. James

  What I have? I have a ASP.NET page deployed in layouts folder of 12 hive in SharePoint. This page makes use of Accordion control in AjaxControlToolkit.dll V3.5.40412.2. I have placed the page code behind class assembly and AjaxControlToolkit.dll in Virtual Directory bin folder. What I want? I want to load this page when a link clicked from a web part for users of "Visitors" site group when the DLLs are placed in virtual directory bin folder. What problem am I facing? The page loads properly for administrator. But, for "Visitors", it shows "The website declined to show this webpage" error message. In these scenarios the page works fine for "Visitors": If I place both the assemblies in GAC If I give Everyone read permission to AjaxControlToolkit.dll (in bin) Am I missing something here?

  I'm implementing LiveID authentication on my website. I've done it before, but not on this particular platform, MojoPortal. The sign-in works properly, but when I attempt to sign-out, I get the error message quoted below. My browser is not blocking cookies. I get the same message when logging in to and out of, say, MSDN with a LiveID too now. I can't figure out if there's something about my site's programming that is interfering with the sign-out process of LiveID (since I believe that all (recent?) websites get sent a sign-out command) OR if live.com is just having issues lately and this is a coincidence.   Using C# .NET 2.0, I have a composite data class that does have the [Serializable] attribute on it. I am creating an XMLSerializer class and passing that into the constructor: XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(DataClass)); I am getting an exception saying: There was an error reflecting type. Inside the data class there is another composite object. Does this also need to have the [Serializable] attribute or by having it on the top object does it recursively apply it to all objects inside? Any thoughts?
