  • Rewrite only URLs that don't exist

    I'm looking for a way to rewrite URLs only if the path doesn't exist. This isn't to handle 404s, but to redirect page URLs to a shared PHP file (ie: '/contact-us/' - '/show_page.php?page=contact-us'). The basic redirect is easy enough to achieve, however I want to be able to override the default page by adding '/contact-us/index.php' in the site root. Is this achievable with mod_rewrite or would I have to do something else?

    Does Doctrine 1.2 support importing indexes with Doctrine_Core::generateModelsFromDb() function? I need to make a migration between 2 database connections, one of them having unique index on 2 fields and one doesn't. And my migration is empty. It looks like Doctrine doesn't support indexes when importing from databae, other than those tied to relationship foreign keys. $changes = Doctrine_Core::generateMigrationsFromDiff($migrationsPath, array('doctrineOld'), array('doctrine'));

  • Methods and practices for managing a network that has no internet connection

    Originally asked in Super User but realized this belongs here. Long story short, I am setting up a network with 32 servers of varying specs that will be used for testing and development. We will be using RedHat Linux, we also do not have a router as of yet and were looking into making one of the servers act as our router/DHCP etc. The small cluster will be on an isolated network with no internet. I can use external harddrives and discs to transfer anything from external sources into machines on the network, so this isn't a locked down secure network, it just won't have a direct connection to the outside world. I've worked on such setups before, but always long after they were setup. So I'm reaching out to see what everyone knows as far as how groups have handled initial setup and maintenance of such a situation. What is the best way to get them all configured and up to date? What are the best ways to automate updates, network wide installs, etc. With the only given that I have large multi-terabyte external hard drives that would be used to drop whatever files are needed onto a central server, how do i then distribute those files and install their contents? I've done perl scripting, some teammates have played with puppet, so we aren't completely in the dark, I just wanted to avoid reinventing the wheel since this is a common challenge.

    I'm currently using regular expressions to search through RSS feeds to find if certain words and phrases are mentioned, and would then like to extract the text on either side of the match as well. For example: String = "This is an example sentence, it is for demonstration only" re.search("is", String) I'd like to know where the is was found so that I can extract and output something like this: 1 match found: "This is an example sentence" I know that it would be easy to do with splits, but I'd need to know what the index of first character of the match was in the string, which I don't know how to find

We have to build an app that correlates the 2 images (phase/2D correlation?) and then plot using Chaco and Mayavi (2 libraries in Python). I have tried checking major websites like ebay, stackoverflow and others also, all with around 400 errors. So my first thought is, what good is that validator when it always displays errors? Secondly, will the errors affect my SERP ranking? ie, will me fixing these errors as good as I can increase my Google search position? Thanks

    Hi All, I am struggeling finding an effectient way to find a distance between a Point that interetcts a polygon and the border of that polygon. I was able to use the STDistance comparing the point to every point that made up the polygon but that is taking a lot of time. Using SPatial indexed wasnt much helpful because the STDistance is not part of any constraint and even when I did put the constraint, the index didnt help much. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

  • Tungsten for MySQL: Online Schema Upgrade

    In a recent presentation the Continuent folks claim that they support "daylight maintenance" or online schema upgrades. See Clustering for the Masses: A Gentle Introduction to Tungsten for MySQL, especially pages 22-28. Is anyone using Tungsten for MySQL in this way? It sounds too good to be true. I also wonder if the Community Edition supports all of the features discussed in the presentation. They say elsewhere that it is not crippleware but in their own productization table "Zero downtime upgrade" appears to only be available in the more advanced versions. So I'm skeptical. Community support seems rather non-existent so a commercial license with support is probably warranted (they do not disclose pricing). I have not contacted them directly yet as I prefer community vetting but this solution, despite its value proposition and power to make an admin's life easier just doesn't seem to get the kind of attention it might warrant. If not Tungsten for MySQL, how do you handle online schema upgrades? MySQL Cluster (NDBENGINE) is not well-suited to web applications. Cheers

I'd like it to start as this, /News?favorites=True and end up something like this after the user enters in a search and clicks search. /News?query=test&favorites=True The controller action looks like this public ActionResult Index(string query,bool favorites) { //search code } This question is something close to what I'd like to do, but I'd like to use the query string and maintain the existing values in the query string.     Let's assume you have a big complex index page, that shows news articles and stuff. It's not going to change very often. Can you cache it somehow on the serverside, so requests don't force to server to dynamically generate the entire page every time someone visits it? Or does ASP.NET do this automatically? If so, how does it know if something has changed?

    I want to be able to edit and delete resources myself, but not allow users of the application to do so. Is there an easy way of doing this in Rails? An incomplete solution would be just to remove the "delete" and "edit" buttons from the index view, but that doesn't disable their ability to do so via direct HTTP requests.
