• Upgrading Visual Studio web service project says to "convert to web application."

  I have a Visual Studio 2003 web service project that I have to upgrade to Visual Studio 2008. After I have run the conversion wizard, I get this message: You have completed the first step in converting your Visual Studio .NET 2003 web project. To complete the conversion, please select your project in the Solution Explorer and choose the 'Convert to Web Application' context menu item. I got this message with another project, which was originally a "web site", rather than an ASP.NET "web application". It made sense to in that case (sort of). Why, however, would I not just want to have this project remain a web service project? Additionally, when I follow the instructions and select "Convert to Web Application" from the context menu, I don't get any feedback that anything has changed. Should it have? If so, what?

  I am creating a Web Application using JSP, Struts, EJB and Servlets. The Application is a combined CRM and Accounting Package so the Database size is very huge. So, in order to make Execution faster, I want prevent round trips to the Database. For that purpose, what I want to do is create some temporary XML files on the client Machine and use them whenever required. How can I do this, as Javascript do not permits me to do so. Is there any way of doing this? Or, is there any other solution which I can adopt in order to make my application Faster?

I've done lots of development in server-side environments with databases, and we all know that database schema additions and modifications are often necessary.   Hello, I am currently developing an free application (TaskOS ) that allow users to have multitasking and switch easily between applications on their mobile ( like alt+tab in Windows ) That work pretty well and user can launch my application by a long press on the "search" button" by adding this line in the manifest: <action android:name="android.intent.action.SEARCH_LONG_PRESS" /> I also succeed to allow to the users to Use the camera button ( they can of course disable that in application settings) and the way to do that is slighlty different: <receiver android:name=".CameraPressed"> <intent-filter android:priority="10000"> <action android:name="android.intent.action.CAMERA_BUTTON"/> </intent-filter> I am now wondering if there are other ways to launch easily my task switcher? ( long press on Home key, long press on trackball, or any other idea.) Reading the Google documentation does not help me a lot. Any other idea/suggestion would be warmly welcome. Christophe

  I want to create an application that gets all e-mails from an e-mail account using imap. When I first run the application I get all mails, than if I run it again I want to mark the messages that was read before so I can receive only new messages. I found that Message Object contains Flags(System Flags and User defined flags), but I can't manage to set one user defined flag. It is possible to mark the messages received by my application on the e-mail account, or I have to retain all message ids and every time when I get messages from imap I have to compare their id with retained ids and get only the messages that has different ids?

I looked into visual studio forms designer articles in msdn and also studied open-source SharpDevelop editor. Both the examples host visual studio's windows forms designer to provide form-design service in their respective applications. My question is - Does it imply any licensing issue with Microsoft for directly hosting their Visual Studio Forms designer in my own application ? I know Flash doesn't work on the iPhone OS, but is there a way to get this type of mp3 player to work on an iPhone? I'm thinking maybe a javascript mp3 player. What I would ultimately want is to replace my flash mp3 player with a different mp3 player and have it so the player is available on Windows and Mac computers as well as iPhone devices. I really want to increase my application memory so I recompiled my project under MSDVE 2008 with wow64 (OS Exp 64Bit). I tried to allocate more than 2Gbyte and the function VirtualAlloc return error. I even tried to set the flag LARGEADDRESSWARE to on, and the result was the same! How can I increase my application memory, till using the VirtualAlloc function, with the WOW64?

  How do i make my vb.net application (running on intranet) compatible with all the browsers. The problem is all the text boxes and drop downs size varies when I browse the application in different browsers. For example when I browse in Chrome all the drop downs size changes and textbox becomes small.In IE8 all the dropdowns , comboboxes and the size of the grids gets changed. The combobox in firefox and IE 7 or later gets small in size.Is there any solution for this. And also I would like to add , the application works perfectly with IE6 only.

  I have several servers to test new code on. I primarily push out asp.NET web applications. Last week, I had an issue where I installed a newly developed web application on three servers. The three servers all run in separate environments. The application worked fine on two of them, but consistently crashed on the third server with each web request. The problem was eventually traced to an in-house developed .dll file being out of date on the third server. I'm certain that this kind of thing happens all the time. However, there are numerous things that could go wrong to cause this kind of behavior. I spent quite a bit of time tracing this problem. I would like to make a list of things to be suspicious of next time this happens? What are the most likely reasons that a web application would crash on one of my servers while identical code runs fine on another server.

  hi i am comletly new to iis and asp.net i am trying to setup bugNET on a godaddy server. i created a virtual directory and once i tried to launch the site i get this error: Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. here is complete detail of what i did. hosting: godaddy created virtual directory (child folder of root) - named: devbunk with these settings (anonymous access, directory browsing) that is all i can do to with iis on godaddy. the error tells me that i need to turn the virtual directory as an application. godaddy doesnt let me do that... how do i do it? btw, i have iis7 setup.

  Hi All, Is there any RIM API available which will help to get the list of available network service or only Wi-Fi networks for a device and set selected network access point for any network communications? Is it possible programmatically to disable the Mobile networks like GPRS, WAP, etc? For Ex: When a application is started it should scan for WiFi connections (even if there are no previous WiFi network access points are set on device) and list the available WiFi connection. Then user will select the appropriate WiFi connection to connect for any network communication. Outside the application any internet communication (like browser or any other application) should done through same selected WiFi connection. The scanning for WiFi and setting the connection is almost similar to Blackberry WiFi Setup. If anyone know how to implement this using available RIM API and let me know its possible or not.   I'm building a Cocoa application that runs as an item in the status bar. This application has an About window and an item to activate that about window, using the standard Cocoa mechanism for doing so (-[NSApplication orderFrontStandardAboutPanel:]). Naturally this is all hooked up automagically. It works great except for one thing: unlike most About windows, it shows up underneath all other windows, rather than on top. I believe this is because the application does not have a UI, so all its windows are automatically beneath other windows. Is there a way I can hook into the NSApplication mechanism for displaying the About window so I can send it to the front? I've poked around in the docs for NSApplication, but there's no way to get a reference to the About window that I can see so that I can make it appear on top.

  Hi there I want to launch an application with admin rights after I have completed an installation using a WiX based MSI. I can launch the application just fine, on XP but with Windows 7, it's an issue. The application has a manifest embedded in it that says it should run as administrator and I've changed the impersonate attribute in the Custom Action to "no". I can't change the execute attribute to deferred, as this only works before the InstallFinalize action and I need it after the user has clicked Finish in the MSI.   I am spawning external console application and use async output redirect. as shown in this SO post My problem is it seems that the spawned process needs to produce certain amount of output before I get the OutputDataReceived event notification. I want to receive the OutputDataReceived event as soon as possible. I have a bare-bones redirecting application, and here are some observations: 1. When I call a simple 'while(true) print("X");' console application (C#) I receive output event immediately. 2. When I call a 3d party app I am trying to wrap from the command line I see the line-by-line output. 3. When I call that 3d party app from my bare-bone wrapper (see 1) - the output comes in chunks (about one page size). What happens inside that app? FYI: The app in question is a "USBee DX Data Exctarctor (Async bus) v1.0".

  I am developing an app right now which creates and stores a connection to a local XMPP server in the Application scope. The connection methods are stored in a cfc that makes sure the Application.XMPPConnection is connected and authorized each time it is used, and makes use of the connection to send live events to users. As far as I can tell, this is working fine. BUT it hasn't been tested under any kind of stress. My question is: Will this set up cause problems later on? I only ask because I can't find evidence of other people using Application variables in this way. If I weren't using railo I would be using CF's event gateway instead to accomplish the same task.

  Hi guys. Until Windows Vista I was saving my application data into the directory where the program was located. The most common place was "C:\Program Files\MyApplication". As we know, under Vista and later the common user does't have rights to write under "Program Files" folder. So my first idea was to save the application data under "All Useres\Application Data" folder. But it seams that this folder has writing restrictions too! So to sum up, my requirements are: Folder should exist under Windows XP and above Microsoft's systems. All useres of the system should read\write\creation rights to this folder and it subfolders and files. I want to have only one copy of file\files for all useres. Thanks for your time.
