• How do I control output files name and content of an Hadoop streaming job?

  Is there a way to control the output filenames of an Hadoop Streaming job? Specifically I would like my job's output files content and name to be organized by the ket the reducer outputs - each file would only contain values for one key and its name would be the key.   After looking I did come accross this post on the facebook forums: link They are feeding the facebook object a UIImage. That seems logical, but where is this documented? The API documentation is generalized to all platforms. Where are the iPhone specific requirements for arguments and their data types? Thanks **Update***** I still have not came across any API docs pertaining to Cocoa. I did, however, gather the information I needed by piecing together forum information, Facebook sample code, and some glue. Hopefully they'll issue something a little more concrete over the next few months.

For some reason, Urban Airship is making each character of the string into its own tag. I've tried to substitute the - for a string neg with the same results. What's wrong?

• Why does casting a NaN to a long yield a valid result?

  In the sample code below I am dividing by zero which when I step through it with the debugger the (dividend / divisor) yields an Infinity or NaN (if the divisor is zero). When I cast this result to a long I get a valid result, usually something like -9223372036854775808. Why is this cast valid? Why doesn't it stop executing (throw an exception for example) rather than assign an arbitrary value? double divisor = 0; double dividend = 7; long result = (long)(dividend / divisor);

  I have a requirement, wherein I have to join two unrelated objects using Hibernate HQL. Here is the sample POJO class class Product{ int product_id; String name; String description; } and Class Item{ int item_id; String name; String description; int quantity; int product_id; //Note that there is no composed product object. } Now I want to perform a query like select * from Product p left outer join Item i on p.product_id = i.item_id I want a multidimensional array as an output of this query so that I can have separate instances of Product and Item, instead of one composed in another. Is there any way to do this in Hibernate?

  I'm trying to implement an input method service that receives intents sent by a remote client, and in response to those sends an appropriate KeyEvent. I'm using in the input method service this method private void keyDownUp(int keyEventCode) { getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_DOWN, keyEventCode)); getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_UP, keyEventCode)); } to send KeyEvents as in the Simple Sofykeyboard Sample, and it works in the home, in Activities... but it doesn't works when a Dialog or the menu of a Spinner is in foreground. The events is sent to the parent activity behind the Dialog. Is there any way to send keys and control the device like using the hardware keys from an input method?

• How do I use a contact's photo in a table view cell?

  I've got an app that has a table view that displays contact information in each row. I'd like to use the contact's stored image (if there is one available) as the image on the left-hand side of the cell. I've found some sketchy sample code in Apple's documentation, but the address book references some kind of weird data type (CFDataRef) that doesn't appear to correspond to the data types referenced in the table view programming guide (mainly UIImage). This seems like a pretty basic task, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  Here's the sample code: var d = new Date("2010-06-09T19:20:30+01:00"); document.write(d); On FF3.6 this will give you: Wed Jun 09 2010 14:20:30 GMT-0400 (EST) Other browers tested; Chrome 5, Safari 4, IE7 give: Invalid Date I know there is limited to no support for ISO8601 dates, but does anyone know what and/or where the difference is in FF3.6 that allows this to work? My thought is that FF is just stripping out what it doesn't understand while the others are not. Has anyone else seen this and/or getting different results from the test script?

The source model has a property called 'position' with an integer value. Now I want to fetch an article with it's sources orderes by the position. My DQL looks like this: $q = Doctrine_Query::create() ->select('a.title, s.content') ->from('Article a') ->leftJoin('a.Source s') ->where('a.id = ?') ->orderBy('s.position'); The result doesn't change if I edit the position.   I have a table where a record looks like this varchar(255) Name varchar(255) Text varchar(255) Value Name is the DDL name, Text is what is displayed, and Value is returned upon selection. There are between one and twenty options for each Name. Without iterating though each option like a cursor, is there any way to pull out a list of objects, one for each unique DDL Name, using Linq and C#? A sample of the data: Beds '4 (10)' 4 Beds '5 (1)' 5 Beds '7 (1)' 7 Baths 'NA (13)' NULL Baths '0 (1)' 0 Baths '1 (13)' 1 I was thinking about doing an outer select to get the unique Names, then an inner select to get the list of options for it, then return the set as a List of a set of Lists.

  I want to move from Java SE to Java EE. I will be using some of the sample projects that come with the Java EE. I have uninstalled the JDK but I think this may have been a mistake? When I download the latest Java EE (6), upon installation it asks me for the location of the JDK (which is uninstalled). I was under the impression that the JDK was specific to each version of Java i.e. SE or EE. Am I wrong here? I would have thought that when I download Java EE 6 that it was actually the EE JDK? Can anybody please clarify this for me? GF

• Why have private fields in data contracts modified through public ones?

  When you make a new WCF project, sample service is generated for you. The default data contract is (I've just changed the string type field title): [DataContract] public class CompositeType { bool boolValue = true; string name = ""; [DataMember] public bool BoolValue { get { return boolValue; } set { boolValue = value; } } [DataMember] public string Name { get { return name; } set { name = value; } } } What is the point of having those private fields boolValue and name? Is it a good practice writing some data sanitizing or some other manipulations in contract, thus bloating it? It seems the only sane reason for me not writing to fields directly. So is it a bloatware or it has some reason behind it?

• Would Python's Twisted library be the best case for an observer type pattern?

  hi all, I'm developing a system where a queue will be filled with millions of items I need a process that reads items from the queue constantly and then sends those items out to registered clients. I'm thinking about using twisted for this, having the queue reader be a twisted server listening on a tcp port then clients can connect on that port and when an item is pulled from the queue the server writes it out to all the clients. Does that sound like something that twisted would be ideal for? Does anyone know of any sample code out there that may do something similar? thanks

• Preprocessor not skipping asm directives

  I'm programming to a microprocessor (Coldfire) and I don't have access every day to the microprocessor trainer so I want to be able to execute some of my code on the computer. So I'm trying to skip a part of my code when executing on the computer by defining _TEST_. It doesn't work. It tries to compile the asm code and dies whining about not knowing the registers names (they're defined alright compiling against the Coldfire, not my Intel Core Duo). Any ideas why it's not working? or maybe an alternative way to run the code on the pc without commenting it out?.
