• What is the benefit to wrapping every sql/stored proc invocation in a transaction?

  The following code executes one stored procedure. The stored procedure has only one command in it. Is there any benefit to wrapping everything in a transaction, even it only has one SQL statement in it (or one stored proc that has only one sql statement)? In the sample code below, if the delete fails, it fails. There is nothing else to be rolled back (it seems).   I am trying to write a WPF windows application that dynamically creates a 3 D object for an existing 3D Image. The senerio is as follows. Mark the points randomly on the existing 3D Image. Create a 3D object based on the points already marked. Check the below Sample Screenshots. Screenshot 1 and Screenshot 2 I am successfully able to load the 3D file to the WPF form. And was able to perform the rotation using TrackballDecorator 3D Tools library. I have just read this related post. however i didn't get it exactly :) So,can you suggest some efficient methods to achieve it.

  Under Vista, when in Basic theme, after calling IUIFramework::Destroy() the Vista theme is lost, and enlarging the window does not display outside of the initial area. You can repro it easily with the SimpleRibbon SDK sample. In simpleribbon.cpp, insert in the WndProc switch block: case WM_KEYUP: DestroyFramework(); InvalidateRect(hWnd, NULL, TRUE); break; Compile, run, hit a key and try to enlarge in Vista Basic Theme (no problem in Win7 or Vista aero or Windows classic). • text watermark on website? how to do it?

  I am a C++/C# developer and never spent time working on web pages. I would like to put text (randomly and diagonally perhaps) in large letters across the background of some pages. I want to be able to read the foreground text and also be able to read the "watermark". I understand that is probably more of a function of color selection. I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to do what I want. I would imagine this to be very simple for someone with the web design tools or html knowledge. Any links or sample code? Thanks

• Cannot add an icon to Resources

  Have been inputting and testing some sample code and everything seems to be ok. Just that suddenly I am running into this very frustrating problem of trying to add an icon to the project. Have downloaded an icon file (extension : icns) to my desktop and dragged it to the "Resources" group in xCode. Then a dialogue comes up from xCode where I checked the 2 options : "Copy items into destination group's folder (if needed)" and "Recursively create groups for any added folders". But when I press the "Add" button, an "Alert" message box would come up. It says "Could not copy the icon to ...". Hope that someone knowledgable in this area would give me some hints...

• Synchronous HTTP Client with .NET sockets

  Does anyone know of any open source C# projects or some sample code that implement a synchronous HTTP client using sockets? I'm working on a project where I need a HTTP client using sockets. It can't use WebRequest or WebClient, nor can it use Asynchronous sockets. Don't ask. Also it would ideally be on .NET 2.0, yeah very cutting edge here. I figured the web would have tons of samples for this but suprisingly I couldn't find any. Probably because everyone is fortunate enough to use the built in APIs. If I don't find something I'll have to write it myself, which I don't really want to have to reinvent that wheel.

• ASP.net MVC support for URL's with hyphens

  Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

• C# Elegant way to handle checking for an item in a collection.

  I've posted a code sample below. Firstly let me explain termStore.Groups in the code below is a collection of Group Objects (The exact class is irrelevant). Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection .   Hi! I am looking for a stand-alone, easy to use from C# code, template engine. What I want to do is create an html and xml files with placeholders for data, and fill them with data from my code. The engine needs to support loops (duplicating parts of the template form more that one object) and conditions (add parts of the template to the final html/xml only if some conditions are true). Can someone recommend a good option for me, and add a link to more-or-less such code sample, and some documentation about how to use the recommended component for my needs? • calling database driver in java app [basically a swing app]

  I have made a java application that allows a user to choose from certain standards and then allows him to customize those standards according to his needs. Now, the customization [via a swing application] that has been made needs to be persistent. For this we use a database [mysql/access] and hook it to the application so that with each customization made, a table [if non-existent] is created [thus making it runtime and we can not pre-determine the table names or the keys of table etc] and an appropriate entry in the table is made. I have written the driver for this connection. How do I call it in the java application and what approach should I take? I would much appreciate that if somebody can refer me some example that not only shows a sample connection being made via driver but its appropriate calls to the database as well so that i can use it as a guide.

• Design advices for quick navigation between view

  Usually, when a View requires a lot of bindings, or some UI Elements like a Bing Map, it takes a "while" to load (like between half a second and a second). I don't want a delay between a "tap" action (like tapping an element on a ListBox) and the navigation action (displaying a new page). I don't mind displaying the page progressively. For example, for a Bing Map, I don't mind displaying a black page with only a title, and a second later, having the Map appear. What are the best practices ? One processes is redirecting output of some unix command to a file on server side.the data is always appended to the file eg : find / > tmp.txt 2.)Another process is opening and reading the same file and storing it in a string and sending the entire string to the client Now, this things take simultaneously. • How to "flick" a UIImageView?

  I've got some UIViews that I'd like the user to be able to "flick" across the screen. They're not scroll views. They simply contain a raster image (png). Can anyone point me to some sample code, etc to help get me started? Something a little more heavyweight than "MoveMe" out there that helps detect a "flick" (vs a "nudge" or a drag and drop) and then carries the view off in the direction of the "flick"? OpenGL probably overkill. If possible I'd like to stay w/in the realm of Core Graphics/Animation.

  Hi everybody, I'm using the python logging module with the "native" configuration file support (config.fileconfig) as describe in the documentation here : http://docs.python.org/library/logging.html (see the logging.conf file) I was wondering if it's possible to supply a tabulated data format in the configuration file? The sample configuration file is the following: [formatter_simpleFormatter] format=%(asctime)s - %(name)s - %(levelname)s - %(message)s I though that using the \t in the format would be enough but it doesn't. format=%(asctime)s\t%(name)s\t%(levelname)s\t%(message)s\t If I do so it print \t in the result. I tried a couple of thing without success. I suppose it's really easy to do but I don't find it! How can I do that?

Release should be called since alloc was called, right? If #1 is right, then I would need to store a reference to each of these in an instance variable in order to release them in the dealloc? • Visual Studio IDE - how do you quickly find the implementation(s) of an interface's method?

  Is there a quick way to find all of the implementations of, not references to, an interface's method/property/etc? Here's some sample code: public class SomeClass : IBaseClass { public Int32 GetInt() { return 1; } } public interface IBaseClass { public Int32 GetInt(); } public class SomeOtherClass { ISomeClass _someClass; private TestMethod() { _someClass = new SomeClass(); _someClass.GetInt(); } } I want to quickly get to SomeClass.GetInt() while reviewing SomeOtherClass.TestMethod(). If I right click on _someClass.GetInt() and click 'Go To Definition', it takes me to the interface. If I click 'Find All References', I could potentially see a list of all uses ... not just the classes that implement the GetInt() method. Is there a faster way to find this? Any tips from other developers? We are using D.I. for most of our dependencies, which means that tracing through deeply nested code takes forever.
