• setlocale to fr-FR in PHP and number formatting

  Hi, I am trying to create a French version of one of my sites. I have set setlocale(LC_ALL, 'fr_FR'); at the top of my page, and using strftime I am displaying dates correctly in the French style. However I am having some problems with a number. Part of the page uses data I am getting from a Web Service. I am assigning a returned value to a var like this: $overallRating = $returnArray['Overall']; I am then using the following code later to format it to 1 decimal place number_format($overallRating,1) In the English version the overallRating value might be 7.5 and returns a value such as 7.5 (the reason for running it through the number_format is if it returns 7 I want it to display 7.0) However in the French version if I print out the raw $overallRating value I get 7,5 which looks like it has translated it into french. This would be fine but if I run it through number_format I get the error: Notice: A non well formed numeric value encountered in /sites/index.php on line 250 Line 250 is the number_format line I presume the translation to 7,5 is messing it up, but not sure how to solve this... • Email not sent until application closes

  I have an application that uses SmtpClient to send E-Mail, but the E-Mails are not sent until the application closes. I have searched and searched to find a solution to the problem, but I am not able to find one. The system does have Symantec anti-virus installed, which could possibly be the problem. Does anybody have a solution to this problem?   I'm currently trying to wrap my head around regex, I have a validation snippet that tests an input box against a regex-expression: $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); That works well, but when I try to add a space and some special danish characters, it doesn't filter the danish characters, only the space. $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z æøåÆØÅ]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); Any ideas to what could be wrong?

While generating code for the SQL Server 2008 I came to the point where I want to define some default values for some fields. how to define in the designer for a Created DateTime Field the DateTime.Now default value? - Error 54: Default value (DateTime.Now) is not valid for DateTime. The value must be in the form 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.fffZ' how to make for code generation a string Field unique. Like E-Mail or Username can exists only once in the table. I've search alot in the internet and also checked my books Pro Entity Framework 4.0 and Programming Entity Framework. But none of them seems to come up with the default value issue, or using sql commands as default values for database generation. Another thing is, how to prevent on database generation always from droping tables? Instead i want to append non existing fields and keep the data. Thanks for any suggestions.

• NSSortDescriptor for NSFetchRequest sorting unexpectedly

  My entity has a property (sortOrder) that is of the type Decimal(NSDecimalNumber) but when I execute a fetch request using that property as a key, I get back results in a seemingly random order. If I output the value of the property I get really strange values until I get it's intValue. Example: The first run produces this result. The first value is the raw value of the property. • PHP next MySQL row - how to move pointer until function checks true?

  I have a PHP script which takes a value from a row in my MySQL database, runs it through a function, and if it determines it's true returns one value, and if it's false, it needs to go to the next value in the database and check that one until eventually one returns true. I think I need to use mysql_fetch_assoc, but I'm not really sure in what way to use it... I wish I could post my code to be more specific, but it's a lot of code and most of it has no bearing on this issue...

• Having problem with decimal points in MS Excel 2007

  I want to generate a graph with a large decimal number like -106.63633167743683 or 52.132235169410706. But whenever I'm entering the value in Excel sheet it is giving me value like -106.63633167743600 (as I have formatted cell with 15 decimal places). It is replacing the value of last two digits by 0. Can anyone help regarding this please?

  I'm not even sure if this is possible, but I've exhausted all of my ideas trying to figure this out, so I figured I'd send this out to the community and see what you thought. I would plan to eventually release this as an open-source project once I have it in a place that I feel it's releasable.

  hello, I want to bind an input field to the jquery-ui slider handle. So whenever one value changes I want the other value to also change. Ex: if someone types 1000 into the minimum value input field I want the lower slider handle to move to the 1000 mark. Also if the user drags the lower slider handle to 1000 the input field should reflect that.   I'm debugging part of a large project in Visual Studio 2005, and stepping through the code line by line. int speed = this->values.speed; int ref = this->values.ref_speed; After stepping past the first line, values.speed has a value of 61, but for some reason, speed is getting assigned the value 58. After the second line, values.ref_speed has a value of 58, but ref gets assigned the value 30. When paused, you can see that the original values are in fact 61 and 58 respectively, but the values getting stored are different. What is causing this behaviour?

The problem is the whitespace is contracted so that the columsn don't line up. SAme results in FF, IE6 and Chrome. What am I missing?

• WPF validation red border doesn't show If UserControl collapsed first

  There seems to be a bug with WPF in 3.5, and I was hoping someone may have found a workaround. Basically if you have a custom UserControl that contains a TextBox and it is in a Window but initialized to be Collapsed by default in the xaml or code behind if it fails validation when you make the control visible it will not show the red border until it fails while visible. However, this works correctly when visibility is set to Hidden, just no when Collapsed. I am already overriding the ErrorTemplate with a style to workaround the Adornment issue with the red border staying visibile when you collapse the control. Below is my full style for the TextBox.   Hello, I am trying to replace some text in a string with different text while retaining some of the text and I am having trouble doing it. My code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fDialog.FileName.ToString()); string content = reader.ReadToEnd(); reader.Close(); /Replace M2 with M3 (this works fine) content = Regex.Replace(content, "M2", "M3"); I want to replace a string that contains this: Z0.1G0H1E1 and turn it into: G54G43Z.1H1M08 (Note the Z value and the H value contain the same numeric value before the text change) The trouble I am having is that when I replace the values, I need to retain the H value and the Z value from the first set of text. For example, Z0.5G0H5E1 I need to add the new text, but also add the H5 and Z0.5 back into the text such as: G54G43Z0.5H5M08 But the Z values and H values will be different every time, so I need to capture those values and reinsert them back into the string when add the new G54G43 values. Can someone please show me how to do this using Regex.Replace? Thanks so much, Shawn

  Hey there! I'm setting public fields of the Object 'this' via reflection. Both the field name and the value are given as String. I use several various field types: Boolean, Integer, Float, Double, an own enum, and a String. It works with all of them except with a String. The exception that gets thrown is that no method with the Signature String.valueOf(String) exists... Now I use a dirty instanceof workaround to detect if each field is a String and in that case just copy the value to the field. private void setField(String field, String value) throws Exception { Field wField = this.getClass().getField(field); if(wField.get(this) instanceof String){ //TODO dirrrrty hack //stupid workaround as java.lang.String.valueOf(java.lang.String) fails... wField.set(this, value); }else{ Method parseMethod = wField.getType().getMethod("valueOf", new Class[]{String.class}); wField.set(this, parseMethod.invoke(wField, value)); } } Any ideas how to avoid that workaround?   Getting attributes using minidom in Python, one uses the "attributes" property. e.g. node.attributes["id"].value So if I have <a id="foo"></a>, that should give me "foo". node.attributes["id"] does not return the value of the named attribute, but an xml.dom.minidom.Attr instance. But looking at the help for Attr, by doing help('xml.dom.minidom.Attr'), nowhere is this magic "value" property mentioned. I like to learn APIs by looking at the type hierarchy, instance methods etc. Where did this "value" property come from?? Why is it not listed in the Attr class' page? The only data descriptors mentioned are isId, localName and schemaType. Its also not inherited from any superclasses. Since I'm new to Python, would some of the Python gurus enlighten?

In what instance will it give a problem if the return value is not declared a reference, let's say return by value?

  I've a file with xml data. And I want to generate a report out of it. I tried to integrate xsl with java script, but can I get a handle of individual data elements in xsl and pass it on to a java script function. Lets say <value>true</value> is in the xml and I want to pass it on to a javascript function while doing something like this in xsl. <xsl:for-each select="/valgroup"> <xsl:value-of select="value"/> </xsl:for-each> The alternative is to parse the xml in java script and get the values, I've got little idea of how to integrate it with xsl. Are there any java script libraries. I've seen my libraries that run on servers(AJAXSLT), but I need something that runs locally. I'm a new to xslt, so consider this a worthy question.

  I'm planning to refresh my laptop. I've been using a thinkpad T42 for a long time and run Ubuntu on it. I'm planning to move to using a desktop for all my heavy work and getting a very light netbook style machine for mobile use. I need a decent keyboard, good battery life and a display that's bright and responsive. I'm evaluating a couple of laptops including a mac but have never come across information about a Sony Vaio. Do any of the people have experience with the laptop? What are your opinions? Does it work fine with Linux? Is it tinkerable (a big problem with the macbooks). How's the build quality, how's the service?

Also, in my exception, is it proper to say "cannot be null", or would it be better to say "cannot be Nothing"? I sort of like the way I have it, but since this is VB, maybe I should use Nothing. But since the exception itself is called ArgumentNullException, it feels weird to make the message say "cannot be Nothing". Anyway, I guess it's pretty nitkpicky, just wondered what you folks thought.
