  • Core Data + Core Animation/CALayer together??

    - by ivanTheTerrible
I am making an Cocoa app with custom interfaces. So far I have implemented one version of the app using CALayer doing the rendering, which has been great given the hierarchical structure of CALayers, and its [hitTest:] function for handling mouse events. In this early version, the model of the app are my custom classes. However, as the program grows I feel the urge of using Core Data for the model, not just for the ease of binding/undo management, but also want to try out the new technology. My method so far: In Core Data: creating a Block entity, with attributes xPos, yPos, width, height...etc. Then, creating a BlockView : CALayer class for drawing, which uses methods such as self.position.x = [self valueForKey:@"xPos"] to fetch the values from the model. In this case, every BlockView object has to also keep a local copy of xPos, which is NOT good. Do any of you guys have better suggestions? Edit: This app is a information visualization tool. So the positions, dimensions of the blocks are important, and should be persisted for later analysis.

  • How do I change an attribute in an HTML table's cell if I know the row and column index of the cell?

    - by Mark
I know nothing about jQuery but am an experienced C++ programmer (not sure if that helps or hurts). I found jQuery code that gives me the row and column index of a cell in an HTML table when a user clicks on that cell. Using such row-column index numbers, I need to change an attribute's value in the previously selected cell and in the cell just clicked. The index numbers are produced and saved with this code: var $trCurrent = 0; // Index of cell selected when page opens var $tdCurrent = 0; // i.e., previously selected cell $(document).ready(function () { $("td").click(function () { // How toclear previously selected cell's attribute here? ('class', 'recent') var oTr = $(this).parents("tr"); $tdCurrent = oTr.children("td").index(this); }); $("tr").click(function () { $trCurrent = $(this)[0].rowIndex; // How to set new attributes here? ('class', 'current'); // and continue work using information from currently selected cell }); }); Any help or hints would be appreciated. I do not even know if this is the way I should get the index of the row and column. Thanks.

  • How can I get the Hibernate Configuration object from Spring?

    - by Wayne Russell
Hi, I am trying to obtain Spring-defined Hibernate Configuration and SessionFactory objects in my non-Spring code. The following is the definition in my applicationContext.xml file: Code: <bean id="sessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.LocalSessionFactoryBean"> <property name="hibernateProperties"> <props> <prop key="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQLDialect</prop> <prop key="hibernate.show_sql">true</prop> <prop key="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto">update</prop> <prop key="hibernate.cglib.use_reflection_optimizer">true</prop> <prop key="hibernate.cache.provider_class">org.hibernate.cache.HashtableCacheProvider</prop> </props> </property> <property name="dataSource"> <ref bean="dataSource"/> </property> </bean> If I now call getBean("sessionFactory"), I am returned a $Proxy0 object which appears to be a proxy for the Hibernate SessionFactory object. But that isn't what I want - I need the LocalSessionFactoryBean itself because I need access to the Configuration as well as the SessionFactory. The reason I need the Configuration object is that our framework is able to use Hibernate's dynamic model to automatically insert mappings at runtime; this requires that we change the Configuration and rebuild the SessionFactory. Really, all we're trying to do is obtain the Hibernate config that already exists in Spring so that those of our customers that already have that information in Spring don't need to duplicate it into a hibernate.cfg.xml file in order to use our Hibernate features.

  • What AOP tools exist for doing aspect-oriented programming at the assembly language level against x8

    - by JohnnySoftware
Looking for a tool I can use to do aspect-oriented programming at the assembly language level. For experimentation purposes, I would like the code weaver to operate native application level executable and dynamic link libraries. I have already done object-oriented AOP. I know assembly language for x86 and so forth. I would like to be able to do logging and other sorts of things using the familiar before/after/around constructs. I would like to be able to specify certain instructions or sequences/patterns of consecutive instructions as what to do a pointcut on since assembly/machine language is not exactly the most semantically rich computer language on the planet. If debugger and linker symbols are available, naturally, I would like to be able to use them to identify subroutines' entry points , branch/call/jump target addresses, symbolic data addresses, etc. I would like the ability to send notifications out to other diagnostic tools. Thus, support for sending data through connection-oriented sockets and datagrams is highly desirable. So is normal logging to files, UI, etc. This can be done using the action part of an aspect to make a function call, but then there are portability issues so the tool needs to support a flexible, well-abstracted logging/notifying mechanism with a clean, simple yet flexible. The goal is rapid-QA. The idea is to be able to share aspect source code braodly within communties as well as publicly. So, there needs to be a declarative security policy file that users can share. This insures that nothing untoward that is hidden directly or indirectly in an aspect source file slips by the execution manager. The policy file format needs to be simple to read, write, modify, understand, type-in, edit, and generate. Sort of like Java .policy files. Think the exact opposite of anything resembling XML Schema files and you get the idea. Is there such a tool in existence already?

  • A jscript variable in a Query

    - by lerac
    Maybe a very simple question. How can I put in this code <Query> <Where> <Eq> <FieldRef Name="Judge_x0020_1" /> <Value Type="Text">mr. R. Sanches</Value> </Eq> </Where> </script> </Query> A variable from jscript in the area of the code where mr. R. Sanches is written. So my jScript contains a dynamic text variable I want to replace mr. R. Sanches with. See where it says THE JAVESCRIPT VAR underneath here: <Query> <Where> <Eq> <FieldRef Name="Judge_x0020_1" /> <Value Type="Text">THE JAVASCRIPT VAR</Value> </Eq> </Where> </script> </Query>

  • ObjC: Alloc instance of Class and performing selectors on it leads to __CFRequireConcreteImplementat

    - by Arakyd
    Hi, I'm new to Objective-C and I'd like to abstract my database access using a model class like this: @interface LectureModel : NSMutableDictionary { } -(NSString*)title; -(NSDate*)begin; ... @end I use the dictionary methods setValue:forKey: to store attributes and return these in the getters. Now I want to read these models from a sqlite database by using the Class dynamically. + (NSArray*)findBySQL:(NSString*)sql intoModelClass:(Class)modelClass { NSMutableArray* models = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] autorelease]; sqlite3* db = sqlite3_open(...); sqlite3_stmt* result = NULL; sqlite3_prepare_v2(db, [sql UTF8String], -1, &result, NULL); while(sqlite3_step(result) == SQLITE_ROW) { id modelInstance = [[modelClass alloc] init]; for (int i = 0; i < sqlite3_column_count(result); ++i) { NSString* key = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:sqlite3_column_name(result, i)]; NSString* value = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(const char*)sqlite3_column_text(result, i)]; if([modelInstance respondsToSelector:@selector(setValue:forKey:)]) [modelInstance setValue:value forKey:key]; } [models addObject:modelInstance]; } sqlite3_finalize(result); sqlite3_close(db); return models; } Funny thing is, the respondsToSelector: works, but if I try (in the debugger) to step over [modelInstance setValue:value forKey:key], it will throw an exception, and the stacktrace looks like: #0 0x302ac924 in ___TERMINATING_DUE_TO_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION___ #1 0x991d9509 in objc_exception_throw #2 0x302d6e4d in __CFRequireConcreteImplementation #3 0x00024d92 in +[DBManager findBySQL:intoModelClass:] at DBManager.m:114 #4 0x0001ea86 in -[FavoritesViewController initializeTableData:] at FavoritesViewController.m:423 #5 0x0001ee41 in -[FavoritesViewController initializeTableData] at FavoritesViewController.m:540 #6 0x305359da in __NSFireDelayedPerform #7 0x302454a0 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific #8 0x30244628 in CFRunLoopRunInMode #9 0x32044c31 in GSEventRunModal #10 0x32044cf6 in GSEventRun #11 0x309021ee in UIApplicationMain #12 0x00002988 in main at main.m:14 So, what's wrong with this?   • How to stop MVC caching the results of invoking and action method?

    - by Trey Carroll
I am experiencing a problem with IE caching the results of an action method. Other articles I found were related to security and the [Authorize] attribute. This problem has nothing to do with security. This is a very simple "record a vote, grab the average, return the avg and the number of votes" method. The only slightly interesting thing about it is that it is invoked via Ajax and returns a Json object. I believe that it is the Json object that is getting catched. When I run it from FireFox and watch the XHR traffic with Firebug, everything works perfectly. However, under IE 8 the "throbber" graphic doesn't ever have time to show up and the page elements that display the "new" avg and count that are being injected into the page with jQuery are never different. I need a way to tell MVC to never cache this action method. This article seems to address the problem, but I cannot understand it: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1441467/prevent-caching-of-attributes-in-asp-net-mvc-force-attribute-execution-every-tim I need a bit more context for the solution to understand how to extend AuthorizationAttribute. Please address your answer as if you were speaking to someone who lacks a deep understanding of MVC even if that means replying with an article on some basics/prerequisites that are required. Thanks, Trey Carroll

  • How to use ASP.NET Routing in a Quote of the Day Website

    - by SidC
Good Afternoon, A client is interested in creating an ASP.NET 2.0 website whose purpose is to serve up a "quote of the day". He wants the quotes on static content pages all attached to the same master page. The quote pages must be viewed in a certain sequence, and site browsers cannot view any other pages than the starting page when browsing to the site. That is, everyone must go to page 001.aspx when entering the site. Two Questions: 1. The content pages are going to be created by the client using an excel data source and a merge process by which each quote page is created eg. 001.aspx, 002.aspx etc. This seems clunky to me at best. Would ASP.NET Dynamic Data be a better solution here? I'm new to ASP.NET Routing and URL Rewriting as a whole. How would I setup a route table to ensure that users always entered the site on the same entry page, and create a route table such that default.aspx resolves to 001.aspx? Thanks, Sid

  • Is it possible to implement an infinite IEnumerable without using yield with only C# code?

    - by sinelaw
Edit: Apparently off topic...moving to Programmers.StackExchange.com. This isn't a practical problem, it's more of a riddle. Problem I'm curious to know if there's a way to implement something equivalent to the following, but without using yield: IEnumerable<T> Infinite<T>() { while (true) { yield return default(T); } } Rules You can't use the yield keyword Use only C# itself directly - no IL code, no constructing dynamic assemblies etc. You can only use the basic .NET lib (only mscorlib.dll, System.Core.dll? not sure what else to include). However if you find a solution with some of the other .NET assemblies (WPF?!), I'm also interested. Don't implement IEnumerable or IEnumerator. Notes The closest I've come yet: IEnumerable<int> infinite = null; infinite = new int[1].SelectMany(x => new int[1].Concat(infinite)); This is "correct" but hits a StackOverflowException after 14399 iterations through the enumerable (not quite infinite). I'm thinking there might be no way to do this due to the CLR's lack of tail recursion optimization. A proof would be nice :)

  • Generating equals / hashcode / toString using annotation

    - by Bruno Bieth
I believe I read somewhere people generating equals / hashcode / toString methods during compile time (using APT) by identifying which fields should be part of the hash / equality test. I couldn't find anything like that on the web (I might have dreamed it ?) ... That could be done like that : public class Person { @Id @GeneratedValue private Integer id; @Identity private String firstName, lastName; @Identity private Date dateOfBirth; //... } For an entity (so we want to exlude some fields, like the id). Or like a scala case class i.e a value object : @ValueObject public class Color { private int red, green, blue; } Not only the file becomes more readable and easier to write, but it also helps ensuring that all the attributes are part of the equals / hashcode (in case you add another attribute later on, without updating the methods accordingly). I heard APT isn't very well supported in IDE but I wouldn't see that as a major issue. After all, tests are mainly run by continuous integration servers. Any idea if this has been done already and if not why ? Thanks

  • Shopify JSONP issue in ajaxAPI

I'm getting some odd response back from shopify ajaxapi for jsonp. If you cURL a Shopify ajax api location http://storename.domain.com/cart.json?callback=handler you will get a jsonp response. But something is breaking the same request in browsers. It appears to be related to compression? Here are some responses from each browser when attempting to call the jsonp as documented. • RegularExpression Validator doesn't display error message.

    - by Rudi Ramey
I have a regular expression validation control initialized to validate a textbox control. I want users to be able to enter U.S. Currency values ($12,115.85 or 1500.22 etc.). I found a regular expression off of regexlib website that does the trick. The validation control seems to be working except for one crucial thing. If invalid data is entered, the validation text dispalys (a red "*" next to the textbox), but the page will still submit and the error message won't pop up... I thought that the error message is supposed to display and the page won't submit if the validation control detects invalid data. Isn't this automatic with ASP .NET? I have searched extensively on how to create validation controls, but haven't found anything different than what I am already doing. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here? <asp:TextBox ID="txtActualCost" runat="server" Width="120px" CausesValidation="true"></asp:TextBox> <asp:RegularExpressionValidator ID="regExValActualCost" ControlToValidate="txtActualCost" Text="*" ValidationExpression="^\$?(\d{1,3}(\,\d{3})*|(\d+))(\.\d{2})?$" ErrorMessage="Please enter a valid currency value for 'Actual Cost'" Display="Dynamic" EnableClientScript="true" runat="server" />

  • Why is Swing Parser's handleText not handling nested tags?

    - by Jim P
I need to transform some HTML text that has nested tags to decorate 'matches' with a css attribute to highlight it (like firefox search). I can't just do a simple replace (think if user searched for "img" for example), so I'm trying to just do the replace within the body text (not on tag attributes). I have a pretty straightforward HTML parser that I think should do this: final Pattern pat = Pattern.compile(srch, Pattern.CASE_INSENSITIVE); Matcher m = pat.matcher(output); if (m.find()) { final StringBuffer ret = new StringBuffer(output.length()+100); lastPos=0; try { new ParserDelegator().parse(new StringReader(output.toString()), new HTMLEditorKit.ParserCallback () { public void handleText(char[] data, int pos) { ret.append(output.subSequence(lastPos, pos)); Matcher m = pat.matcher(new String(data)); ret.append(m.replaceAll("<span class=\"search\">$0</span>")); lastPos=pos+data.length; } }, false); ret.append(output.subSequence(lastPos, output.length())); return ret; } catch (Exception e) { return output; } } return output; My problem is, when I debug this, the handleText is getting called with text that includes tags! It's like it's only going one level deep. Anyone know why? Is there some simple thing I need to do to HTMLParser (haven't used it much) to enable 'proper' behavior of nested tags? PS - I figured it out myself - see answer below. Short answer is, it works fine if you pass it HTML, not pre-escaped HTML. Doh! Hope this helps someone else. <span>example with <a href="#">nested</a> <p>more nesting</p> </span> <!-- all this gets thrown together -->

  • In which order is model binding and validation done in ASP.NET MVC 2?

    - by Simon Bartlett
I am using ASP.NET MVC 2, and am using a view-model per view approach. I am also using Automapper to map properties from my domain-model to the view-model. Take this example view-model (with Required data annotation attributes for validation purposes): public class BlogPost_ViewModel { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] public string Title { get; set; } [Required] public string Text { get; set; } } In the post editor view I am using a rich text editor (CKeditor). Because CKeditor is a HTML editor, I ideally need CKeditor to HTMLencode the user's input when the form is submitted, so that ASP.NET's input validation does not complain. This is not a problem as CKeditor has this functionality built in, however I need CKeditor's output decoded before mapping back to the domain object (via Automapper). I am wanting to add a new property (to the view-model above) to solve this, as follows: public string HTMLEncodedText { get { return HTMLEncode(Text); } set { Text = HTMLDecode(value); } } I can then bind this property to CKeditor in the view, but still use Automapper to map the 'Text' property in the controller - all without having to turn input-validation off. My question is: do you know how the model binding and validation process in ASP.NET MVC 2 works? Are all model properties binded before validation is carried out? Or is each individual property get validated when it is being set. I think ideally for my idea to work, all properties need to be set before the model is validated.

  • Efficient alternative to merge() when building dataframe from json files with R?

    - by Bryan
I have written the following code which works, but is painfully slow once I start executing it over thousands of records: require("RJSONIO") people_data <- data.frame(person_id=numeric(0)) json_data <- fromJSON(json_file) n_people <- length(json_data) for(lender in 1:n_people) { person_dataframe <- as.data.frame(t(unlist(json_data[[person]]))) people_data <- merge(people_data, person_dataframe, all=TRUE) } output_file <- paste("people_data",".csv") write.csv(people_data, file=output_file) I am attempting to build a unified data table from a series of json-formated files. The fromJSON() function reads in the data as lists of lists. Each element of the list is a person, which then contains a list of the attributes for that person. For example: [[1]] person_id name gender hair_color [[2]] person_id name location gender height [[...]] structure(list(person_id = "Amy123", name = "Amy", gender = "F", hair_color = "brown"), .Names = c("person_id", "name", "gender", "hair_color")) structure(list(person_id = "matt53", name = "Matt", location = structure(c(47231, "IN"), .Names = c("zip_code", "state")), gender = "M", height = 172), .Names = c("person_id", "name", "location", "gender", "height")) The end result of the code above is matrix where the columns are every person-attribute that appears in the structure above, and the rows are the relevant values for each person. As you can see though, some data is missing for some of the people, so I need to ensure those show up as NA and make sure things end up in the right columns. Further, location itself is a vector with two components: state and zip_code, meaning it needs to be flattened to location.state and location.zip_code before it can be merged with another person record; this is what I use unlist() for. I then keep the running master table in people_data. The above code works, but do you know of a more efficient way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? It appears the merge() is slowing this to a crawl... I have hundreds of files with hundreds of people in each file. Thanks! Bryan

  • Manipulate score/rank on query results from NHibernate.Search

    - by Fernando Figueiredo
I've been working with NHibernate, NHibernate.Search and Lucene.Net to improve the search engine used on the website I develop. Basically, I use it to search contents of corporations specification documents. This is not to be confused with Lucene's notion of documents: in my case, a specification document (which I'll hereafter call a "specdoc") can contain many pages, and the content of these pages are the ones that are actually indexed (thus, the pages themselves are the ones that fall into Lucene's concept of documents). So, the pages belong to a specdoc, that in turn belong to a corporation (so, a corporation can have many specdocs). I'm using NHibernate.Search "IndexEmbedded" and "ContainedIn" attributes to associate the pages with their specdoc and the specdocs to their corporations, so I can query for terms in specdoc pages and have Lucene/NH.Search return either the pages themselves, the specdocs, or the corporations that match the query on the pages. I can query this way and get ranked results, thus presenting results (that is, corporations, specdocs or pages) by relevance, which is great. But now I need something more. Specifically in the case where I query terms and have NH.Search return the corporations that match, I need to manually/artificially tune the score of some of the results, because there are corporations that I want to show up on the top of the result set - think of "sponsored results". I'm thinking of doing it on my application, maybe creating an entity/database table that contain an association to the corporation entity, and a score boost value. But I don't know how to feed this to Lucene and have it boost the results accordingly at search time. Initially I thought about deriving a Similarity class to do this, but it doesn't look like Similarity can be used to modify result sets at search time. As per this page, it looks like what I need is to mess around with weight or scoring. But the docs are a little superficial in that there are no examples on how to implement a custom scoring, let alone integrate it with NH.Search. So, does anyone know how to do this, or point me to some documentation or working example on how to do something similar? Thanks!

  • Connecting repeatable and non-repeatble backgrounds without a seam

    - by Stiggler
I have a 700x300 background repeating seamlessly inside of the main content-div. Now I'd like to attach a div at the bottom of the content-div, containing a different background image that isn't repeatable, connecting seamlessly with the repeatable background above it. Essentially, the non-repeatable image will look like the end piece of the repeatable image. Due to the nature of the pattern, unless the full 300px height of the background image is visible in the last repeat of the content-div's backround, the background in the div below won't seamlessly connect. Basically, I need the content div's height to be a multiple of 300px under all circumstances. What's a good approach to this sort of problem? I've tried resizing the content-div on loading the page, but this only works as long as the content div doesn't contain any resizing, dynamic content, which is not my case: function adjustContentHeight() { // Setting content div's height to nearest upper multiple of column backgrounds height, // forcing it not to be cut-off when repeated. var contentBgHeight = 300; var contentHeight = $("#content").height(); var adjustedHeight = Math.ceil(contentHeight / contentBgHeight); $("#content").height(adjustedHeight * contentBgHeight); } $(document).ready(adjustContentHeight); What I'm looking for there is a way to respond to a div resizing event, but there doesn't seem to be such a thing. Also, please assume I have no access to the JS controlling the resizing of content in the content-div, though this is potentially a way of solving the problem. Another potential solution I was thinking off was to offset the background image in the bottom div by a certain amount depending on the height of the content-div. Again, the missing piece seems to be the ability to respond to a resize event.

  • A Django form for entering a 0 to n email addresses

    - by Erik
I have a Django application with some fairly common models in it: UserProfile and Organization. A UserProfile or an Organization can both have 0 to n emails, so I have an Email model that has a GenericForeignKey. UserProfile and Organization Models both have a GenericRelation called emails that points back to the Email model (summary code provided below). The question: what is the best way to provide an Organization form that allows a user to enter organization details including 0 to n email addresses? My Organization create view is a Django class-based view. I'm leading towards creating a dynamic form and an enabling it with Javascript to allow the user to add as many email addresses as necessary. I will render the form with django-crispy-forms. I've thought about doing this with a formset embedded within the form, but this seems like overkill for email addresses. Embedding a formset in a form delivered by a class-based view is cumbersome too. Note that the same issue occurs with the Organization fields phone_numbers and locations. emails.py: from django.db import models from parent_mixins import Parent_Mixin class Email(Parent_Mixin,models.Model): email_type = models.CharField(blank=True,max_length=100,null=True,default=None,verbose_name='Email Type') email = models.EmailField() class Meta: app_label = 'core' organizations.py: from emails import Email from locations import Location from phone_numbers import Phone_Number from django.contrib.contenttypes import generic from django.db import models class Organization(models.Model): active = models.BooleanField() duns_number = models.CharField(blank=True,default=None,null=True,max_length=9) # need to validate this emails = generic.GenericRelation(Email,content_type_field='parent_type',object_id_field='parent_id') legal_name = models.CharField(blank=True,default=None,null=True,max_length=200) locations = generic.GenericRelation(Location,content_type_field='parent_type',object_id_field='parent_id') name = models.CharField(blank=True,default=None,null=True,max_length=200) organization_group = models.CharField(blank=True,default=None,null=True,max_length=200) organization_type = models.CharField(blank=True,default=None,null=True,max_length=200) phone_numbers = generic.GenericRelation(Phone_Number,content_type_field='parent_type',object_id_field='parent_id') taxpayer_id_number = models.CharField(blank=True,default=None,null=True,max_length=9) # need to validate this class Meta: app_label = 'core' parent_mixins.py from django.contrib.contenttypes.models import ContentType from django.contrib.contenttypes import generic from django.db import models class Parent_Mixin(models.Model): parent_type = models.ForeignKey(ContentType, blank=True, null=True) parent_id = models.PositiveIntegerField(blank=True, null=True) parent = generic.GenericForeignKey('parent_type', 'parent_id') class Meta: abstract = True app_label = 'core'

  • Question about mixing MEF and Unity

    - by Dave
I'm finally diving into Unity head first, and have run into my first real problem. I've been gradually changing some things in my app from being MEF-resolved to Unity-resolved. Everything went fine on the application side, but then I realized that my plugins were not being loaded. I started to look into this issue, and I believe it's a case where MEF and Unity don't mix. Plugins are loaded by MEF, but each plugin needs to get access to the shared libraries in my application, like app preferences, logging, etc. Initially, my plugin constructor had the ImportingConstructor attribute. I then replaced it with InjectionConstructor so that Unity could resolve its shared library dependencies. But because I did that, MEF no longer loaded it! Then I used both attributes, which compiled, but then I got a composition error (MEF). I figured that this was because the constructor takes a parameter that was once resolved by a MEF Import, so I removed all parameters. As expected, now MEF was able to load my plugin, but because the constructor needs to call into the interface that was once passed in, construction fails. So now I'm at a point where I can get MEF to start to load my plugin, but can't do anything with it because the plugin relies on shared libraries that are registered with Unity. For those of you that have successfully mixed MEF and Unity, how do you go about resolving the references to the shared libraries with Unity? It seems like a catch-22, where in order to have Unity work with the plugin, I'd have to create the plugin via Resolve, but then it's impossible to use MEF. UPDATE I can work around this problem by using an ImportingConstructor for the plugin that takes an IUnityContainer, and then call Resolve for each interface that I need, but although it works, it is incredibly lame to do it this way, as this would require all plugin authors to remember to save a reference to the passed in IUnityContainer...

  • rails best practices where to place unobtrusive javascript

    - by nathanvda
Hi there, my rails applications (all 2.3.5) use a total mix of inline javascript, rjs, prototype and jquery. Let's call it learning or growing pains. Lately i have been more and more infatuated with unobtrusive javascript. It makes your html clean, in the same way css cleaned it up. But most examples i have seen are small examples, and they put all javascript(jquery) inside application.js Now i have a pretty big application, and i am thinking up ways to structure my js. I like somehow that my script is still close to the view, so i am thinking something like orders.html.erb orders.js where orders.js contains the unobtrusive javascript specific to that view. But maybe that's just me being too conservative :) I have read some posts by Yehuda Katz about this very problem here and here, where he tackles this problem. It will go through your js-files and only load those relevant to your view. But alas i can't find a current implementation. So my questions: how do you best structure your unobtrusive javascript; manage your code, how do you make sure that it is obvious from the html what something is supposed to do. I guess good class names go a long way :) how do you arrange your files, load them all in? just a few? do you use content_for :script or javascript_include_tag in your view to load the relevant scripts. Or ... ? do you write very generic functions (like a delete), with parameters (add extra attributes?), or do you write very specific functions (DRY?). I know in Rails 3 there is a standard set, and everything is unobtrusive there. But how to start in Rails 2.3.5? In short: what are the best practices for doing unobtrusive javascript in rails? :)

  • Inflated ImageView to put in GalleryView isn't the right size

    - by Richard
    I am trying to inflate an ImageView that scales a Drawable that I can display in a GalleryView. My code to inflate the view seems to work fine, except that the attributes of the ImageView are not applied. Specifically, the inflated ImageView does not have the width/height that I set for it via the android:layout params in XML. Can someone show me what I'm doing wrong? I want to set the width/height of the image in dp, so that it is the correct size across multiple screen dpis and support Android 1.5+. As a result I cannot use something like: i.setLayoutParams(new Gallery.LayoutParams(150, 116) My layout definition is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ImageView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="150dp" android:layout_height="116dp" android:background="@drawable/gallery_item_background" android:scaleType="fitXY" /> </ImageView> And the snippet I am using to inflate the ImageView is: public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater(); ImageView i = (ImageView) inflater.inflate(R.layout.gallery_item, null); i.setImageResource(mImageIds.get(position)); i.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.FIT_XY); return i; }

  • Flexible Decorator Pattern?

    - by Omar Kooheji
I was looking for a pattern to model something I'm thinking of doing in a personal project and I was wondering if a modified version of the decorator patter would work. Basicly I'm thinking of creating a game where the characters attributes are modified by what items they have equiped. The way that the decorator stacks it's modifications is perfect for this, however I've never seen a decorator that allows you to drop intermediate decorators, which is what would happen when items are unequiped. Does anyone have experience using the decorator pattern in this way? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Clarification To explain "Intermediate decorators" if for example my base class is coffe which is decorated with milk which is decorated with sugar (using the example in Head first design patterns) milk would be an intermediate decorator as it decorates the base coffee, and is decorated by the sugar. Yet More Clarification :) The idea is that items change stats, I'd agree that I am shoehorning the decorator into this. I'll look into the state bag. essentially I want a single point of call for the statistics and for them to go up/down when items are equiped/unequiped. I could just apply the modifiers to the characters stats on equiping and roll them back when unequiping. Or whenever a stat is asked for iterate through all the items and calculate the stat. I'm just looking for feedback here, I'm aware that I might be using a chainsaw where scissors would be more appropriate...
