  Do you like the challenge of fast-paced games? Then get ready to put yourself to the test with the Air Hockey extension for Google Chrome during company time. Air Hockey in Action There are two ways that you can play Air Hockey…either using the drop-down window or opening the game in a new tab. For our example we chose to play in a new tab. • The lifecycle of "cool"

  I've been thinking lately about how some programming projects/products become "cool," and in particular, how that trend can later reverse. Here are two examples that might better explain my context: Textmate Whenever someone asks about text editors on OS X, the answer on the SE sites is an automatic "Textmate!" But looked at objectively: Textmate 1.0 shipped October 2004 Textmate 1.5 shipped January 2006 Textmate 2 was announced February 2006 As of September 2010, the currently shipping version is 1.5.9 In all of 2010, there have been a total of three posts on the Textmate blog At what point (if ever) do Textmate fans start thinking about switching to another text editor? When it breaks after some future Apple update? When alpha geeks they respect start recommending something else? Or? jQuery Whenever a JavaScript-related question is asked on the SE sites, the knee-jerk response is "jQuery!" I've seen it happen even when the question itself only required a single line of JavaScript. Or when the question could be better answered by using CSS. Do the answerers understand they're suggesting a blowtorch to light a candle? That they're recommending adding 70K or so of code to do something trivial? Or is it a symptom of "When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail"—that is, jQuery is all they know how to do, so that's their recommendation? And do they understand that while they may know jQuery well, that doesn't necessarily mean that they know JavaScript? Is there a way to explain that learning JavaScript would make them better jQuery programmers? My bigger-picture questions: Is this niche focus primarily a trait of programmers? How do you get programmers to not immediately jump to recommending their personal favorites? What can motivate programmers to review their initial selection criteria and possibly modify their choice? Your thoughts?

  Hello, At moment my main layout consists of vertically oriented stack panel and it looks like this: Root StackPanel StackPanel - fixed Height 150 (horizontal orientation) StackPanel - relative Height must be behalf of free space left on screen (but at least 150 px). Used by Telerik GridView Control, if I don't specify Height or MaxHeight Telerik GridView Height becomes very large and does not fit my window. StackPanel - fixed Height 100 (horizontal orientation) StackPanel - relative Height must be half of free space left on screen (but at least 150 px). Used by Telerik GridView Control, if I don't specify Height or MaxHeight Telerik GridView Height becomes very large and does not fit my window. StackPanel - fixed Height 100 (horizontal orientation) The view must totally fit available screen size. The problem is that I don't understand how to make certain areas of my view resize depending on available screen size. Is there is easy way to solve it, or should I be binding to Window height property and doing math? Thank You very much!

For each claim they are assign a unique ID. like contractcompany/category/serialno Ex: take a contracted company names as xxx, sss, zzz. xxx/Engineering/001 sss/Engineering/001 . . . xxx/Enginnering/002 sss/Engineering/002 . . . xxx/Fire/001 sss/Fire/001 . . . xxx/Fire/002 . . . xxx/Fire/002 . . . and so on..... by this way they issue the unique ID for each claim. Finally what i want is developing the interface with PHP mysql and ajax auto generating the unique id for each claim. store full details of the claims with reference to unique id. show all claims in one page, and they can view by branch wise and category wise. send monthly Report (All claims they have given and status of claims) to contract companies. give access to contracted companies, but they can view only their respective claims. Each claim has its own documents. So they can be uploaded by own company users or administrator. these files are associated with unique ID. contracted companies can view files. Give access to branches to enter new claims and update old claims. Administrator can create, update and delete all the claims and their details. Only administrator can grant new users (own company branches / contracted companies) Finally the the panel is completely database driven. Could any body can help.   I want to insert some script that is required for my JavaScript library in all view pages. I know that Asp.net MVC is built on Asp.net Framework. Therefore, I can override many methods in “System.Web.UI.Page” class that is a parent of “System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage” class. Nevertheless, I can do it by override Render method but it makes all view pages be invalid for XHTML 1.0 strict. • help with rails render action vs routing

  I was using some image cropping example that I found online and now I got confused. There is actually no "crop" method in my controller. Instead (following the guide) I put a render :action => 'cropping', :layout=> "admin" In my create method. That renders a page the view called cropping.html.erb . It works fine but I have no idea how to link or render that page otherwise, like if I wanted to hit a URL directly or press a button to recrop an image. Should I actually create a crop method in my controller and hook it up via routing if I want to be able to do this, or is there a way within my view to link to the same place that renders the cropping action? Sorry about the confusion :) It doesn't help that the first version of the tutorial did have a cropping method and he removed it!! Any explanation on why one method is better over the other would be great. Thanks!!

• Script stops working on HSQLDB 1.9.0-rc6

  DROP VIEW V1 IF EXISTS; DROP TABLE T1 IF EXISTS; CREATE TABLE T1 (id INT, name VARCHAR(32), age int); CREATE VIEW V1 AS (SELECT * FROM T1 WHERE age < 21); I have no problem to execute the SQL statement above in one JDBC statement or on the SWING Manager from HSQLDB. Now it stops working on 1.9.0-rc6. This is error message I got - "user lacks privilege or object not found: T1 / Error Code: -5501 / State: 42501" Does anyone know what have changed in 1.9.0-XX which made it not working? Thanks

  I have a View in which the user is able to upload a file to the server. In this view I also have 2 buttons: one to Upload a file and other to Download the last file imported. In my Controller I created 2 action methods: Import and Export. How could I manage to redirect each button click to the proper action method in my Controller? I have tried Html.ActionLink: <%= Html.ActionLink("Upload", "Import", "OracleFile")%> <%= Html.ActionLink("Download", "Export", "OracleFile")%> Html.ActionLink didn't do the trick. The action links were taking me to the right Action methods but they were generating a GET request. This way Request.Files.Count = 0. I need a POST request.

  Hi, I have a screen with a webView in my navigation controller stack and when I navigate from this view back to a previous before the page completely loaded I get a EXCEPTION_BAD_ACCESS. Seems, that the view with a webView being released before it comes to webViewDidFinishLoad function. My question is how to overcome this problem? I don't expect from the user to wait till the page loads... • touchesBegan / Ended incorrectly identifying second, third, etc. touch

  I have an issue where touchesBegan and touchesEnded are incorrectly identifying my second, third, etc touch if I continue to hold down my first touch. If I lift my finger up off the first touch, then it will recognize the next touch just fine. It's only when I hold my first touch down continuously and then try and touch a different area with a different finger at the same time. It will then incorrectly register that second touch as being from the first touch again.   Is there a good way to adjust the size of a UITextView to conform to it's content? Say for instance I have a UITextView that contains one line of text: "Hello world" I then add another line of text: "Goodbye world" Is there a good way in Cocoa Touch to get the rect that will hold all of the lines in the text view so that I can adjust the parent view accordingly? As another example, look at the Notes field for events in the Calendar application--note how the cell (and the UITextView it contains) expands to hold all lines of text in the notes string.

  The title for this question pretty much sums up what I'm asking. I've got a list of taxonomy terms, and I'm using a view to display the latest post to each one. I'd like to also display a custom field set up in CCK just under this. Currently, I'm just using "date updated" of the taxonomy term itself which was easy to set up in views. I'd like to drill a little deeper and get the custom "event date" field I've added to the content type last posted to the taxonomy term I'm "viewing". I've got a feeling I'm going to have to write my own database query for this. If (I can avoid that){ How do I set up such a view? } Else{ What's the best practice for including lower level database queries alongside views? }

• AS3 Font embedding problem in ComboBox on a loaded movie clip

  Hi all, I have three movie clips, say, LoaderMC, ChildMC1, and ChildMC2. ChildMC1 has TLFTextfields in it with embedded fonts. ChildMC2 has both TLFTextfields as well as combo boxes.(with embedded fonts) When I compile those movieclips separately, I can view the combo box texts without any problem. If I load the ChildMC1 and ChildMC2 into the LoaderMC, the texts doesn't appear at all on both TLFtextfields and Combo Boxes. I tried embedding the fonts in the LoaderMC, then, TLFTextfields was able to show the texts but still the ComboBoxes couldn't display the text. If I don't embed the fonts in the combo box, I can able to view the texts. What could be the problem? I read an article which says, "No one has completely understood the font embedding in flash AS3, we just have to do trial and error, to get it done" I don't know how far it is true, but in my case it seems, I should agree! Please help me...

• ASP.NET ASPX Designer question. Bug?

  Check out this Screenshot. Shouldn't a hierarchy list of tags appear here? Usually it appears. Sometimes, the tag "appears" there but without text (but the tag object is there as evident when you hover over it.) Other times, like this, nothing appears. It's a usual feature to see the hierarchy or tags which gives me easily access to the tags from design view for easy altering in the properties window. I think too many developers love to do things the hard way and sludge thru tags in HTML view and hardly use this, but it frustrates me when it doesn't work all the time. Is it me? Nah....
