• Merge only a one remote branch into a local branch with Mercurial

  I wan to manage some profiles as XML files in Mercurial repos. The setup I'm thinking of: Each user has a repo with a branch where he manages his own profile, and a number of branches where he can pull and merge other profiles from that branch of another user. So for example I have my own profile branch and a branch labeled friends, in which I want to pull the profile branches of a few remote repos, to collect like a collection of profiles. I figured out that since the repos are unrelated I need to use -f, but I can't figure out how to pull and merge only a single branch into another. So I want like me friend someone profile ---> friends <--- profile \-> family friends <--- profile Is this even possible? Should I use separate repos instead? Is there a better solution?

• Can Mac KeyNote presentations exported for Windows be shown in good quality and be edited?

  A friend asked me this: ...I stopped using KeyNote for one simple reason – contrary to the Mac marketing blurb, the final presentations do NOT work fine on Windows PCs – they look distorted and have formatting quirks which cannot be corrected because the Windows/Powerpoint file it has supposedly been saved as is in fact a non-editable file, kind of like a pdf. Is there a way to create Mac KeyNote presentation files so they look nice on Windows and can be edited?

• How to access Guest (Linux) Filesystem from Host (Windows) in VirtualBox

  I am trying to synchronize my music between my desktop (Ubuntu 9.10) and my laptop (VirtualBox: Windows 7 host & Ubuntu 9.10 guest) I use Unison to perform the actual sync, which itself is not the problem. I am ultimately trying to get my Windows 7 host to be able to access the music files so I can sync my iPod Touch. What I need to figure out is how I can that to work. I would prefer to actually perform the sync to my Ubuntu Guest, mostly because of the filename allowed character differences between Windows and Linux. Is there a way to access the files on my Linux Guest from the Windows Host? Can I mount the VDI in Windows when VirtualBox is off? Can I have Windows Host access the Linux Guest filesystem while VirtualBox is running?

• Apache w/out internet connection

  I have a Vista laptop that I have been running Apache / MySql / Php / PhpMyAdmin on for quite some time without fail. I just use it to test bits of code here and there etc. No problems, until recently when I needed to test something and I happened to be in a place that I could not get an internet connection. Why am I unable to access localhost from the same machine without an internet connection? I am type http://localhost..etc into the browser's address bar and I get the message that I am unable to access without an internet connection. I checked my windows/system32/etc/hosts file and the first two lines are 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost What am I missing here?

• Streaming Netflix through Wifi kills all other devices

  I have a "Belkin N150" Router. My current setup is wired connection to my personal tv and xbox with wireless going to the Wii and Bedroom laptop. Anytime I try streaming Netflix Instant Queue on the Wii, every other device has problems. The Wii works fine but everything else's connection is destroyed. Streaming through the Xbox doesn't create any issues for other devices. What kind of issue is occurring and how can I fix it?

• Securing smtp with login

  I have a ispconfig server, and it seems that someone is using it to send spam. I got about 130 "Mail Delivery System" email about declined send email. This spammer uses my email address as sent from adress, so I get all these email adresses to my mail. I am using Postfix and Courier. I installed my server according to this guide: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-debian-lenny-ispconfig3-p3 I did this a few months ago. My question: Can I secure my server to require login to be able to send email, and if so... how? Thanks! • Extract segments from FLV file?

  Hello I'm no expert with editing videos, and I need to rip a few segments from an FLV file, and then upload some of them to YouTube. I don't know if I need to convert FLV to AVI for YouTube to accept them. I've taken a look at VirtualDub + the FLV plug-in but the video isn't displayed correctly. I also tried AviDemux, but I couldn't find how to extract a segment after setting the A/Start and B/End points. Does someone know of a good solution to do this on Windows? Thank you.

• GIMP Slow Startup

  Is there any way to speed up GIMP's startup time on Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit 1.6 [Dual] Intel Processors? On XP [different computer], it loads in less than 3 seconds. On Vista, it takes 20 seconds: 2 Seconds (other - fonts, brushes, etc) 18 Seconds (extension-script-fu) It just freezes at extension-script-fu. Looking at ProcessExplorer (or Task Manager, whatever), I see that it's not taking any CPU. EDIT: it does seem to be taking 50% of the CPU. It gets stuck for about 18 seconds, then starts working again, and the actual GIMP program pops up [...finally]. I have the latest stable version running (I think). I tried it with XP SP2 Compatibiliy mode and/or Run As Administrator, but that didn't help. EDIT: One way would be to disable script-fu. Does anyone know how to disable it at startup? (NOTE: Just wanted to point out that the title and the tags are the same. :D )

• Is it possible to use XP visual styles (*.msstyles) or Windows Blinds in a thinapp portable applicat

  It's been a while since I made a portable (Office 2007) Thinapp application, and since then I've uninstalled VMWare from my machine to free up space, so I'd like to know if someone already knows the answer to this before I set up everything again to try it. I'm thinking of installing a visual style (*.msstyles, for XP) along with the application to thinapp before post-setup capture. Failing that, maybe I'll try with visual mods such as Windows Blinds. The purpose is to be able to run a portable application with a specific visual style. So my question is: Is it possible? (I believe it somehow is, since VirtualBox does something similar to XP Mode) If it is, will it work on a computer with the "classic" Windows style? If it's not, will it work with another virtualization software? (Xenocode?) If it's not possible with *.msstyles, will it work with visual mods such as Windows Blinds? Thanks for any input! • Excel: Edit the XML inside an XLSX file

  An Excel XLSX file is a zip archive containing several XML files. I tried to extract all the XML files, and edit xl\connections.xml using an XML editor. That's because I have to change 20+ connections to point to a different server. When I open the edited archive in Excel, it refuses the changes and repairs the file. Is there a way to edit the XML files inside an XML archive?

  I've recently read the following paragraph, and wondered: how you would organise the data (possibly Column A = country, Column B = salary, Column C = tax paid) but what formulas/calculations are used to work out these types of % figures: In country Y the top 0.5% of taxpayers pay 17% of total income tax. In country X the top 0.1% of taxpayers pay 8% of total income tax and in country Z, the top 1% pay about 40% of total federal income tax. • Neophyte question about using Subtotal and CountIf in Excel

  Hi, I'm using Excel and having some problems with Countif and I don't understand how it works differently from SubTotal. I used the GUI to subtotal stuff and all the subtotals are right. Then I attempted to use the Countif to see how many requirements passed. That worked for the first subtotal only. It's easy to see why. When I look at the box for the subtotal, it says: =SUBTOTAL(3,C286:C292) When I look at my formula for passed requirements, I have: =IF(ISTEXT(A285),COUNTIF(C286:C338,"=Passed"),"") Notice that the last column is wrong. How did the Subtotal manage to keep this correct? I typed in the formula for passed requirements and dragged it down the page. Everything behaved as expected (even the bit about ISTEXT dutifully figured out which row was which), but it got the last row wrong. Any ideas?   I have an Asus USB-N13 which I use for wireless internet on my desktop. The download speed I get on Windows 7 (dual-boot) is 15.22 Mbps. On Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) I can only get 1.09 Mbps. I asked a question about this on the Ubuntu forums as well, but I did not get an answer. Here are my steps: Download the source code tar xjvf linux-source-3.0.0.tar.bz2 cd linux-source-3.0.0 make menuconfig, changed nothing but used the default config and save to .config make Actually I think it should be 3.0.4 because from the Makefile I could see VERSION = 3 PATCHLEVEL = 0 SUBLEVEL = 4 EXTRAVERSION = Then at stage 2 which is to make modules, an error happened: ERROR: "__modver_version_show" [drivers/staging/rts5139/rts5139.ko] undefined! make[1]: *** [__modpost] Error 1 make: *** [modules] Error 2 Perhaps because 3.0.4 is a new release so that I can not find any same problem asked nor any solution to it.

• PDF has garbled text when copy pasting

  I'm trying to copy and paste text from a PDF file. However, whenever I paste the original text it is a huge mess of garbled characters. I did a 'Save as text' in Adobe Reader and the resultant text file is the same garbled text. Any ideas how I can get this text out non-garbled? • Is that possible to route all mails sent to a mailbox to another server's mailbox

  I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only. For example, I may # mail user1 to send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status. I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.
