  I'm currently in the middle of researching on the various types of AI techniques used in tower defense type games. If someone could be help me in understanding the different types of techniques and their associated advantages. Using Google I already found several techniques. Random Map traversal Path finding e.g. Cost based Traversing Algorithms i.e. A* I have already found a great answer to this type of question with the below link, but I feel that this answer is tailored to FPS. If anyone could add to this and make it specific to tower defense games then I would be truly great-full. How is AI most commonly implemented in popular games? Example of such games would be: Radiant Defense Plant Vs Zombies - Not truly Intelligent, but there must be an AI system used right? • Can third party content on sub-domains harm the main site's search rankings?

  I have a site that is a "portal" or "directory" for service providers. We opened every service provider's own page on our site, but now we get a lot of applications from those providers that want sites from their own. We want to make a full site for every service provider, but rather put them on sub domain URLs. (They don’t mind, it's OK for them.) So, my site is www.exaple.com Their site will be: provider.example.com Now I have two questions: Can the content on the provider sites harm my site in SEO? If one from those sub domains is punished by Google because the owner does "black hat SEO", how it will affect the rood domain? Can it make the root domain get punished?

• Why is there no generic implementation of OrderedDictionary in .net?

  Why did Microsoft not provide generic implementation of OrderedDictionary? There are a few custom implementations I've seen, including: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/recipes/GenericOrderedDictionary.aspx But why did Microsoft not include it in the base .net library? Surely they had a reason for not building a generic.... but what is it? • problem using pydoc in python

  I'm using pydoc in python 2.7.3 to generate documentation for a file called PreProcessingAPI.py which contains a class called PreProcessingAPI In PreProcessingAPI.py, I have the following import in the beginning of the file: from __future__ import division from re import * from nltk.stem import porter The problem is, in the documentation generated by pydoc, nltk.stem.porter is shown as a Module. There is also a DATA heading with all sorts of variables I do not know about. Is there a way to avoid these variables and avoid showing nltk.stem.porter in the modules? I'm running the following command to generate documentation python pydoc.py -w PreProcessingAPI.py I've put the file pydoc.py in the directory containing my file.   When a human task is opened in BPM Workspace, it will try by default to connect to either localhost or the server's alias. So if you try to access the BPM Workspace remotely (from a computer other than where Oracle SOA is running) you will get an http error (unable to connect). You can fix this issue at run-time using the Enterprise Manager (EM). Login to EM and from the farm navigator select your composite by expanding the "SOA", "soa-infra" and your partition node. • Facebook and Gmail stop working after 10 minutes

  I have problem with facebook and gmail only: It works fine and lets me log in, view photos and videos, read new messages, etc. But after 5-10 minuets it doesn't load at all This webpage is not available. The webpage at http://www.facebook.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. More information on this error Below is the original error message Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error After deleting cookies this problem disappears for 5-10 minuets, then I get the same error. It happens with Google Chrome and Firefox. Ping works fine. I have checked System-Preferences-Network Proxy it sets on Default - "Direct Internet Connection". Then I have run test (chrome://net-internals/#tests) and got some FAIL results Use system proxy settings Disable IPv6 host resolving Probe for IPv6 host resolving IPv6 is disabled.

• Farseer: How can I crush Mario? [on hold]

  I want that Mario dies if the box is crushing him. My game has a similar level like this level from New Super Mario Bros. Wii: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYyu6tFAa2M At the beginning of the level, you see some boxes falling to the ground. If a box crushes Mario, he dies. I want to do exactly the same in my game, but I don't know how to do that in Farseer. How can I do that in Farseer 3.3.1? Do you have any suggestions? I don't know how to do the collision detection. I use rectangles for the boxes and ground in Farseer. Mario is a polygon.

• Audio 2 dj soundcard configuration

  I have an http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/audio-2-dj/ The problem in settings it only sees one outpout, when there should be two(I need that for mixxx etc.) Also I want to be able set the sample rate to one of these 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz or at least check which one is set. Additionally if possible setting the latency would be an advantage. • Group arrival steering

  I've got group movement implemented pretty much like this: http://www.red3d.com/cwr/steer/CrowdPath.html Basically, that's combining path following and separation. It works nicely as long as units are in transit, but arrival does not work very well at all. Right now, units just cease to use the path following component once the "exit" the path, i.e. when their closest point on the path is on or past the end. This leads to those units bumping into each other and also overshooting the point the player clicked. Ideally, I'd have the units arrive scattered around the finish point (and reasonable close to each other), not all clumped up past the finish line. I'd imagine that some kind of arrival steering might work here, but based on other units and a "fuzzy" classification of the end of the path. Is there any proven way to do this?

• Should my blog be directly on my website?

  I have my newly launched website at www.slicify.com (redirects to a secure subdomain). I currently have a separate blog on WordPress: slicify.wordpress.com for a couple of reasons: I don't really want to mix my site code (it's a complex ecommerce site written in ASP.Net) with blog code, for ease of maintenance etc. WordPress is already great at blogs - seems silly to reinvent the wheel by trying to integrate blog functionality into my site However is keeping my blog on a separate domain going to hurt me in terms of PageRank or traffic? FWIW: while it's early days, I can see from Google Analytics that a good deal of referral traffic is already coming from my WordPress site to my main site, so at least that seems to be drawing potential users in.

• Checker AI in visual basic not working [on hold]

  I am trying to a make checkers in visual basic with ai. I am using the minimax algorithm (or at least what I understand of it) and it works, except the ai is retarded and plays like it is trying to loose and I tried to switch around the min and the max but the results are IDENTICAL. I am pissed of and have been trying to fix it for over a week now, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. I have 3 years experience of programming (in Java, only about of month of VB experience) and I always am able to solve all my errors on my own so I don't know why I can't get this to work. • Which token from a long User-Agent should I use in robots.txt?

I want to block certain bots via robots.txt and I am confused as to which part of the User-Agent string to use, especially for more obscure bots. • How can I recursively change the permissions of files and directories?

  I have ubuntu installed on my local computer with apache / php / mysql. I now have a directory at /var/www - inside which I have several of my ongoing projects. I also work with opensource ( drupal, magento, sugarcrm ). The problem I am facing is changing file permission with terminal. Sometime I need to change the permission of entire folder and its subsequent sub-folders and files. I have to individually change using sudo chmod 777 foldername How can I do this recursively. Also why do I have to always do it 777, I tried 755 for folders and 644 for files, but that won't work.

• Preventing RSI (Repetitive Strain Injuries)

  I am 16 years old and I love to program and playing the piano. It's not uncommon that I'm bashing away on my mouse and keyboard all day long. I do not feel any pains doing so. Yet I am still worried, because I often hear from people that they can never type for longer then 10 minutes again without getting severe pains. Given my two hobbies, programming and playing the piano that worries me a lot.
