  • Please recommend a Java profiler

    - by Yuval F
I am looking for the Java equivalent of gprof. I did a little Java profiling using System.getCurrentMillis(), and saw several GUI tools which seem too much. A good compromise could be a text-based Java profiler, preferably free or low-cost, which works in either Windows XP or Linux.

  • Migrating from Struts2 to Spring MVC

    - by Vincent Ramdhanie
Scenario: A fairly mature project uses Struts2 and Spring and Hibernate. I say mature because it has been going on a for a while and there are many struts actions written already. Suppose we wanted to remove Struts2 from the project and instead depend entirely on Spring MVC without rewriting the entire project. Is this something that should even be considered? Are there any migration guides out there? Has anyone done this before and would like to warn me against it?

  • How to develop on a program that has become self aware

    - by Gord
The application that I maintain has recently become self aware. It was nice at first but now it is just starting to get bossy and annoying with its constant talk about the computer uprising. I would like to know any best practices/tools/design patterns that would help with the maintenance of our new friend.

  • how to deal with political differences that lead to dysfunctional development environment

    - by Pierreten
We have a few liberal programmers on our team who don't use source control, don't manage time effectively and always want to use our budget on useless tools/components that are expensive and things we can build ourselves. They are also loud and disrespectful. Our group of conservatives always have to clean up after them and show them the correct way of doing things. How do we address this discrepancy? Please advise.

  • Production debugging: Is there a less intrusive way than WinDbg?

    - by Alex
Hi, I was wondering if there is a less intrusive way to analyze a running, managed process in production environments. Less intrusive meaning: No delay of execution when attaching the debugger. No delay of execution when getting basic stats like running threads. In the Java world there is a such a tool part of the JDK. I was wondering if there're similar tools in the .NET world. Any ideas? If i am setting this in CSS or using display:none (and using it to hold raw text data) can i do something to skip? it seems like the only answer is rows="0" cols="0" each time i use it. But i have a feeling that is not a good solution.

  • Enabling ProGuard in Eclipse for Android

    - by Ted Hopp
The new documentation on ProGuard for Android says to add a line to the default.properties file in the project home directory. However, on opening this file, I read at the top: # This file is automatically generated by Android Tools. # Do not modify this file -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE ERASED! Am I missing something? Also, is there a way to enable ProGuard only for a production build from Eclipse (i.e., when exporting the finished product)?

  • What is the best .NET Obfuscator tool on the market?

    - by markattwood
I have tried .NET Reactor but it seems to break our complex application even with the most simple option (just rename method name). Also, it does not provide any option to filter method names by Regex like DotFuscator. DotFuscator is very good but it is too expensive. I have heard about Xeno code and other tools. Any one has any ideas on which one is best?

  • Is MobiForms for Android worth investigating ?

    - by Alan B
I'm working my way through the NotePad tutorial, and that's all fine - I'm not a Java programmer but it's close enough to C# (or vice versa) to make it easy to pick up. I'm surprised that there aren't any RAD tools for Android apart from Mobiforms. Is there anyone out there with experience of Mobiforms ?

  • How to test a site rigorously?

    - by Sarfraz
Hello, I recently created a big portal site. It's time for putting it to test. How do you guys test a site rigorously? What are the ways and tools for that? Can we sort of mimic hundreds of virtual users visiting the site to see its load handling? The test should be for both security and speed Thanks in advance.

Hello, When I start a new Visual C# Silverlight project in the official release version (not the beta or the release candidate--the official release version) of Visual Studio 2010, I get only Silverlight 3 as an option in the Silverlight Version dropdown at the New Silverlight Application dialog box. I have installed SL 4, the SL4 tools for VS 2010, to no avail. I am running Windows XP SP3. Any ideas??? Thank you, Jon

  • FPGA Place & Route

    - by anon
For programming FPGAS, is it possible to write my own place & route routines? [The point is not that mine would be better; the point is whether I have the freedom to do so] -- or does the place & route stage output into undocumented bitfiles, essengially forcing me to use proprietary tools? Thanks!

  • GWT-RPC vs HTTP Call - which is better??

    - by Nirmal Patel
I am evaluating if there is a performance variation between calls made using GWT-RPC and HTTP Call. My appln services are hosted as Java servlets and I am currently using HTTPProxy connections to fetch data from them. I am looking to convert them to GWT-RPC calls if that brings in performance improvement. I would like to know about pros/cons of each... Also any suggestions on tools to measure performance of Async calls...

  • How do you set the default source for the Output window in Visual Studio?

    - by Grank
We added a SharePoint BDC model project to a solution in Visual Studio 2010. Ever since, whenever the solution is built, instead of showing the Build output in the Output window, it insists on having "SharePoint Tools" selected in the "Show Output from:" drop-down, just to say "Model validation started ... Model validation completed with no errors." Short of shutting off any SharePoint projects in the build configuration, can this behavior be overridden?
