The main requirement is to get a very clear and customizable HTML template, which should be hosted by the customer on his own webserver. I'm not very sure if XSLT meets this requirements, as it generates a lot of xsl-related code. It is not easy to understand for people with little HTML skills. I have some experience with the PHP templating engine Smarty. The syntax is much better, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to parse the XML data with PHP, as it is very complex. Which language should I choose for a web application with high complexity? XSLT or PHP?

Let me explain: I do have the basic blueprint of the card in png file format. The script needs to drop in a member's name and birth day along with a serial. So far, no problem - there are plenty of good working PHP librarys out there. My problem is to ensure that the resulting pdf (the generated image of the card, to be precise) meets a certain resolution (preferably 300dpi), so that printing it would look right. Any ideas?   Hi, I am creating a lightweight, single-file database administration tool and I would like to bundle some small icons with it. What is the best way to embed images in a HTML/PHP file? I know a method using PHP where I would call the same file with a GET parameter that would output hardcoded binary data with the correct header, but that seems a bit complicated. Can I use something to pass the image directly in a CSS background-image declaration? This would allow me to utilize the CSS sprite technique. Browser support isn't an issue here, so more exotic methods are welcome also. EDIT Does someone have a link/example to how to generate Data URL's properly with PHP? I'd figure echo 'data:image/png;base64,'.base64_encode(file_get_contents('image.png')) would suffice but I could be wrong.

I want to make sure the property names requested (i.e. $myObj->FakeProperty) are valid according to PHP property name rules before accessing them. My current RegEx isn't doing the trick; with my test values, _12 always falls through the cracks. I'm not actually sure that my test values even represent a realistic representation of what is and isn't allowed for PHP class property names, but I'm not really too concerned about it, just that I have some sort of rudimentary check in place. However, if I browse for an image using the <input type="file"/> element of the form, it will only be successful in uploading an image if the image file is found in the same directory as the page.php file that the form is found in (shown below).   After I have validated the receipt against the App Store from my PHP server, the App Store sends me back a JSON response with "status" : 0 "receipt" : ( .... ) One of the receipt items is "purchase_date" which contains the following string (example) "2010-02-09 19:17:04 Etc/GMT" I'm trying to establish a subscription service and would like to add 3 months to this date and then write that expiry date into a MySQL table. Is there a string-to-date type function in PHP that can allow me to achieve the adding of 3 months? I have found this example which looks like it adds 1 month to a date: $date = date("Y-m-d");// current date $date = strtotime(date("Y-m-d", strtotime($date)) . " +1 month"); But I'm not sure how I can turn the string passed by the App Store into a PHP recognised date.

  Hi all, on my search for a fast but comfortable web server I dropped into the homepage of EmbedThis(TM) AppWeb(TM) HTTP server. This one has 2 licencse models, GPLv2 and a commercial one with support. On the first view it looks good: the footprint is not too big, it is fast and it has a lot of configuration otions. The most important thing would be a fast PHP execution using a built-in PHP library. Unfortunately this PHP library doesn't include every option, especially "gettext" which one I need for I18N.   Hello, I have recently given up on using Visual Studio for Windows editing. See, PHP isn't really important as I have hardly any pages that use it, but in VS, if it smells PHP then it won't treat it as HTML and thus will all be plainly formatted.. so.. I'm looking for some sorta HTML/CSS/PHP editor that is free and multi-platform(so I can also use it at my home OpenBSD computer) And please don't suggest emacs or vi. I'm learning more and more of nvi, but I'm looking for a graphical editor right now. Can anyone suggest a good editor for my needs?

• PHP or Javascript or other - Draw simple shapes onto images?

  I basically have an image of a world map and i would like to place a pin image at a specified pixel co-ordinate ontop of this world map image. It's for a website, so ideally the solution should be in PHP or Javascript (i'm avoiding Java and Flash as i want it to be as simple as possible). I had a look at the processing.js library but it is way to big and bloated for just performing this simple task. Is there a pre-existing Javascript function which will allow me to do this? Or a more simple javascript library that i can use? (processing.js was a bit too advanced for me, i couldnt get it working lol) In terms of a PHP solution, i would prefer taking the load off the server and onto the client for this task, but i would still like to hear methods for doing it in PHP if they are suitable. • Letting a new PHP page know a new POST value is an Array?

  I have a page that creates an associative array, then passes it as a hidden value to a new PHP page. I have a foreach loop waiting to iterate through it but it coughs up an "invalid argument" error, as if the page doesn't know the value it's working with is an array (Despite "print" showing simply "Array"). This is essentially what I have: //Hidden input to be passed to the next page print "<input type=\"hidden\" name=\"price_list\" value=\"$item_list\"> //Code on the second page for the foreach loop extract($_POST); foreach($price_list as $name=>$price) { ... } But I am simply given "Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/cut/mg299/public_html/PHP/invoice.php on line 17". The array works fine, as I can iterate on the previous page, and other values are parsed fine to this second page. Do I need to 'reinitialise' this array value?

  I am working on a small function to take in a url and return a relative path based on where it resides itself. If the url contains a path in the query string, pathinfo returns incorrect results. • SQL Server Query Slow from PHP, but FAST from SQL Mgt Studio - WHY???

  I have a fast running query (sub 1 sec) when I execute the query in SQL Server Mgt Studio, but when I run the exact same query in PHP (on the same db instace) using FreeTDS v8, mssql_query(), it takes much longer (70+ seconds). The tables I'm hitting have an index on a date field that I'm using in the Where clause. Could it be that PHP's mssql functions aren't utilizing the index? I have also tried putting the query inside a stored procedure, then executing the SP from PHP - the same results in time difference occurs. I have also tried adding a WITH ( INDEX( .. ) ) clause on the table where that has the date index, but no luck either. • Does a PHP library exist to work with PRC/.mobi files?

  I'm writing a WordPress plugin to create an eBook from a selected category in most major eBook formats. I would like to support MobiPocket since that's the format used by the Kindle but I'm not sure how to go about it. From what I've read .mobi files are actually Palm Resource Databases (PRC) but I haven't been able to find a PHP class to work with these. I thought about using exec along with KindleGen but that would be undesirable as it would complicate initial setup. I've also thought about hosting a web service somewhere and using XML-RPC to accomplish this but that also complicates things. My question is: is there a PHP class/library (PHP-only preferred) that can work with PRC or even better, a class that specialises in creating MobiPocket ebooks? (needs to be open source since I'm releasing under the GPL) I've tried searching but haven't been able to find anything.

  Hello. Can anyone tell me how to insert special characters into a MySQL database? I've made a PHP script which is meant to insert some words into a database, although if the word contains a ' then it wont be inserted. I can insert the special characters fine when using PHPmyAdmin, but it just doesn't work when inserting them via PHP. Could it be that PHP is changing the special characters into something else? If so, is there a way to make them insert properly? Thanks!

  I've set up IIS6 with FastCGI to use php-cgi.exe. I have some php websites by external parties, that I'm trying to run in a test environment. One of the websites just plain gives me a FastCGI Error Page. Is there some way to enable logging somewhere so that I can get a bit more information on this problem? I have looked in - Eventlog - IIS Website log (c:\windows\system32\Logfiles) - PHP log But no results, except the IIS Website log mentions a return of a 500 page. • HTML stops at a PHP script made to connect to a mysql database. No errors printed.

  I'm trying to set up a login script for PHP using the tutorial on this site. The problem is that the site stops when it hits these lines, no error, no text: <?php $conn = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'password') or die('error line7' . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db('mydb', $conn) or die('error line8' . mysql_error()); ?> If I take out these lines, the rest of the html runs perfectly. I've double checked my passwords and everything, nothing is working. I know very little about php and mysql other than what I've learned trying to set this up.
