  • Why would my mouse pointer be jerky when it can't get a signal from my router?

    I've got a fairly new PC but when moving the mouse across the screen, the pointer jerks as if the PC is freezing momentarily every second or so. Strangely, this only seems to happen if the signal from the wifi router is bad. If I move the PC closer to the router to get a full signal, it's fine. It also seems to affect the keyboard; Opening notepad and holding down a key shows the same momentary freezes. -- Update: It's a logitech wireless mouse, and a wired USB logitech keyboard.

    Hi, I have a USB drive with two partitions in it. one hidden and the other normal. i have an application which swaps the memory and runs the flash application in hidden zone. The problem is that the application works fine on windows7 and when run on WINXp, it swaps the partitions but doesn't run the flash applications but just keeps running in the background. I can see it in task manager. But, when i copy the application to desktop and run , it runs with no glitch I was facing the same problem on WIN7 too , but it was running as required when i ran it using "Run in Xp mode" and then i applied a SHIM and is running since then as required. the application is built using VC++ 2008 , What might be the problem.

    I have a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0 that was bought paired with a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000. They're both Bluetooth and use the same receiver. The keyboard no longer works. The receiver is fine, as the mouse still works. The keyboard is still detected by Windows when the receiver is plugged in. The batteries have been replaced. There are no on/off switches on the keyboard or mouse, and no re-sync button on them or the receiver. Results are the same when using the receiver in a different USB port, or on a different machine. Anything else I might try to fix this, or should I hold a funeral for the keyboard?

  • Is it possible to re-create the Windows 8.1 install image after the upgrade

    I have downloaded and installed the Windows 8.1 upgrade from the Windows store. The hardware was a 64-bit Toshiba P50 laptop. I need to upgrade a second P50 and wish to do so without another 3.6Gb download (I tried the instructions here but never got the chance to create the installation media, nor was I asked for a product key). I saw mention on superuser of creating USB rescue media after installation and using that to clone the upgrade onto another machine. Is this likely to be a viable option?

  • Prevent Windows 7 from unpluging External HDD [migrated]

    I have installed Windows 7 as my media server. I pluged in 500GB external HDD via USB. I have changed power plan to Best Performance and changed advenced power settings to never turn off HDD etc. I even yesterday wrote powershell script (create and delete folder on this disk) and I have added it to harmonogram to run every 5 minutes starting from system boot. And nothing! Disk after some time (I realy can't say when) is turning off and Windows show "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. Then only system reboot or disk reboot helps. Any ideas how to prevent Windows 7 from stopping my external HDD? Cheers!

    I have the Windows 8 32-bit ISO which fails to install when booted from a USB flash drive. It copies the files, the boot loader installs, but the install hangs when I boot into Windows 8 for the first time--it simply keeps on spinning forever. The Windows 8 Release Preview does not work either. I did a VHD install of Windows 8 Developer Preview and it installed fine. Looking at the partition from Windows 7, I can see that the files are present. What could be the problem?

    On my HP Compaq 6710b there's an internal WIFI network adapter. Attached to the same laptop there's also an external USB Alfa WIFI adapter. I live near campus and can pick it's WIFI signal. The problem is that when I am connected to the Internet Wifi using the internal adapter, and then connect to the home (non-internet) Wifi network's router, I lose the connection to the internet (it stays connected, but there's no actual connection). So how can I use the two adapters to connect to both networks successfully ? The router is Belkin N150 Enhanced Router Model F6D4230-4 V1 The external adapter is: ALFA AWUS 036NHR

  • How do I listen to my microphone through my speakers in Windows 7?

    I've looked about and before you say it: I've used the "Listen to this device" feature built into Windows. The issue is that it is a USB microphone and there is a second delay before when it plays on the speakers, literally making me go quiet because my brain doesn't work too well hearing myself a second after I say something. I use Realtek Audio, so it works differently from the monopolistic Creative sound cards. There is no "What U Hear" or "Line In" levels. It's just "Speakers" and "Microphone". Is there a software I can use that will not have delay? I want to wear nice headphones and still hear myself

    I'm thinking of bying 1 or more flash drives or an SD card to use with the readyboost function on by 64bit Windows 7 machine. I have a few questions regarding it before i put my hand in my pocket and buy anything. If i go ahead I would be using the fastest available flash/SD. I have 6GB of RAM current installed so will readyboost make any difference to boot / program load times? Will 2 x 2GB flash drives be quicker than 1 x 4GB or is the limitation on the motherboard? Would an SD card better than USB flash drive? thanks

  • System restore with no mouse or keyboard.

    I accidentally installed some USB drivers to my Windows 7 system, they were the wrong ones and now my keyboard and mouse won't work. A system restore would get rid of them, but obviously I can't control my computer to make that happen. Keyboard and mouse still work before windows has loaded, in the BIOS and boot system, so can I do anything from there? I've already tried booting into another OS, accessing my windows filesystem and deleting the Program Files entry, but it didnt work so they must go deeper than that. Or could i launch it from a remote machine? I've got some VNC server insalled so if i could get that running that could work.

    I attempted to install the perl module Net::Twitter::Role::API::Lists using WHM and after doing so my whole site came down. It seems that something that was updated with the install isn't functioning correctly and since our website it written in Perl none of our site scripts will run. In almost 8 years of working with Perl I've never had any issues arise after installing a perl module so I have no idea how to even start troubleshooting.   • cannot make ubuntu 64-bit v12.04 install work

    I decided it was time to update my ubuntu (single boot) computer from 64-bit v10.04 to 64-bit v12.04. Unfortunately, for some reason (or reasons) I just can't make it work. Note that I am attempting a fresh install of 64-bit v12.04 onto a new 3TB hard disk, not an upgrade of the 1TB hard disk that contains my working 64-bit v10.04 installation. To perform the attempted install of v12.04 I unplug the SATA cable from the 1TB drive and plug it into the 3TB drive (to avoid risking damage to my working v10.04 installation). I downloaded the ubuntu 64-bit v12.04 install DVD ISO file (~1.6 GB) from the ubuntu releases webpage and burned it onto a DVD. I have downloaded the DVD ISO file 3 times and burned 3 of these installation DVDs (twice with v10.04 and once with my winxp64 system), but none of them work. I run the "check disk" on the DVDs at the beginning of the installation process to assure the DVD is valid. When installation completes and the system boots the 3TB drive, it reports "unknown filesystem". After installation on the 250GB drives, the system boots up fine. During every install I plug the same SATA cable (sda) into only one disk drive (the 3TB or one of the 250GB drives) and leave the other disk drives unconnected (for simplicity). It is my understanding that 64-bit ubuntu (and 64-bit linux in general) has no problem with 3TB disk drives. In the BIOS I have tried having EFI set to "enabled" and "auto" with no apparent difference (no success). I never bothered setting the BIOS to "non-EFI". I have tried partitioning the drive in a few ways to see if that makes a difference, but so far it has not mattered. Typically I manually create partitions something like this: 8GB /boot ext4 8GB swap 3TB / ext4 But I've also tried the following, just in case it matters: 8GB boot efi 8GB swap 8GB /boot ext4 3TB / ext4 Note: In the partition dialog I specify bootup on the same drive I am partitioning and installing ubuntu v12.04 onto. It is a VERY DANGEROUS FACT that the default for this always comes up with the wrong drive (some other drive, generally the external drive). Unless I'm stupid or misunderstanding something, this is very wrong and very dangerous default behavior. Note: If I connect the SATA cable to the 1TB drive that has been my ubuntu 64-bit v10.04 system drive for the past 2 years, it boots up and runs fine. I guess there must be a log file somewhere, and maybe it gives some hints as to what the problem is. I should be able to boot off the 1TB drive with the 3TB drive connected as a secondary (non-boot) drive and get the log file, assuming there is one and someone tells me the name (and where to find it if the name is very generic). After installation on the 3TB drive completes and the system reboots, the following prints out on a black screen: Loading Operating System ... Boot from CD/DVD : Boot from CD/DVD : error: unknown filesystem grub rescue> Note: I have two DVD burners in the system, hence the duplicate line above. Note: I install and boot 64-bit ubuntu v12.04 on both of my 250GB in this same system, but still cannot make the 3TB drive boot. Sigh.     Hello. Background: I have an application that has to read from files on a network drive (Z:) This works great in my office domain, however it does not work on site (in a different domain). As far as I can tell the domain users and network drives are set in the same way, however I do not have access to users etc in the customers domain. In my network the application can already access the network drive, and if I try to impersonate the active user (exactly the same user, including the same domain) it will not be able to access the network drive.   • Backdoor in OpenBSD how is it that no developer saw it ? And what about other Linux ? [closed]

    It had been revealed that there have been backdoor implanted in OpenBSD http://www.infoworld.com/d/developer-world/software-security-honesty-the-best-policy-285 OpenBSD is opensource, how is it that nobody in the community developper could see it in the source code ? So how can one trust all the other "opensource" Linux Of course OpenBSD is only a case, the point is not about OpenBSD, it is about opensource in general. my question is not about Openbsd per se it's about source code os inspection especially c/c++ since most are written in these languages. Also once the source is compiled how one can be sure that it really reflects the source code ? If a law requires that a backdoor being implanted and obliges to deny that kind of action under the guise of security, how can you be sure that the system has not been corrupted by some tools ? As said there is there is a "nondisclosure agreement" My guess is that 99.99% of developpers in the world are just incapable of understanding os source code and won't even bother to look at it. And above all nobody wonders about why the gov wants such massive backdoor, and that of course they will pressure medias to deny.

  • Windows Server Backup "Reading Data; please wait..."

    On windows Server 2008 R2 I have recently added the windows server backup (WSB) feature. Opening WSB I get the message "Reading Data; please wait...". This message fails to go away, even after leaving the server for over 12 hours. I also notice in the task manager that svchost.exe (username: networkservice) is using all available processing power. So I terminated that process and then WSB comes on-line. However after restarting the server and WSB the issue reoccurs. WSB also fails to recognize my store-in-go flash drive (2gb). What is the underlying problem here?
