• How do I sync two local file structures.

  Hi, I have two large source trees. One of them has some out of date image files. I would like to automatically update all the old image files (png, jpg, gif) in one source tree with the up to date image files in the other source tree. I am using Windows 7 but I have Cygwin installed. I have tried using rsync so far but with no success. I was hoping I could do something like: rsync -r *.png newSourceTree oldSourceTree Any help would be much appreciated.

• How to use Joomla to allow users to create/update data on my site?

  Right now Im using an extension called chronoforms but Im open to anything that works. I can make forms just fine, and it saves the submitted data to a table. Where I am stuck is, how do I then allow my front end users who filled out and submitted the form to go back, view their old answers, change them, and resubmit them or resave them. In order to do this I think I would need to be able to retrieve their last answers from the table on which it is stored, replug the last specific data record for that user only back into the original form on the front end and let the user change and resubmit it? Unless there is a better way to allow the user to change their answers to a form and resave them? If anyone knows how to do this, or if there is a better way I should be going about doing this, (perhaps there is another extension that handles this kind of thing) please let me know. Thanks!

• Makefile won't copy .o to obj/ and target to bin/ folders

  I'm trying to write a Makefile which will copy its target and objects to bin/ and obj/ directories, respectively. Yet, when I try to run it I get the following error: nasm -f elf64 -g -F stabs main.asm -l spacelander.lst ld -o spacelander obj/main.o ld: cannot find obj/main.o: No such file or directory make: *** [spacelander] Error 1 Why is this happening? Update I noticed when I posted the error that it was due to white spacing errors. After taking care of those, I still get the new error I replaced with the old one I mentioned prior. What is this??   I have a general question. I would like to have a window containing some buttons, radio buttons, text fields and so on. So, user can do something (write text, select options and press buttons). As the result of the user activity window should change it structure/appearance some element should disappear and some appear. How do I program such "updates"? Should I close an old window and open a new one or I can modify content of window without closing it?

• Visual studio 2010 doesn't make the changes when i do a build/compile

  Ok so i change some code, re-build it and then, say for arguments sake i had a print statement outputting 'test2', well if i change it to 'test3' its still re-producing the old code 'test2'. Ive deleted the debug folder and rebuilt but no good. Then randomly about 10 builds later it will catch up. Ive also closed VS2010 and then re-opened the project but that doesnt help. What can i do as i need to see the changes asap? ps it's definitely the correct file

  I am working on some old web forms application. When I changed from design to view source of the aspx page, the aspx markup becomes disarranged.   Hello everyone !! I´m trying to create a trigger on MySQL but I´m having a sintaxe problem, which I was not able to find. If someone more experient could help me it would be great (it´s the first time I use MySQL!)... The reason why I´m creating this trigger is for deleting all the orphan "labels", which has a many-to-many relation with "service_descriptor" (this two entities are linked by service_labels).   Hi: I have to update some fields of a table of access according to the value of parameter. If this paramter is "true" I need to update. Table idInvoice price percentageTax1 tax1 percentageTax2 tax2 total Example values: idinvoice: 12300 price: 100 € percentageTax1: 10 % tax1= 10€ percentageTax2: 5 % tax2: 5€ total: 115 € (result: 100€+10€+5€) Ok. If the parameter on that I have commented before is "true" I must update the percentages and then update the total. I need to replace the "old" percentages by new percent. Ok I can do it in 3 queries: update invocies set percentageTax1=20,tax1=price *(percentageTax1/100) where idInvoice=@number and percentageTax1=10 update invocies set percentageTax2=7,tax2=price *(percentageTax2/100) where idInvoice=@number and percentageTax2=5 update invocies set total=price+tax1+tax2 where idInvoice=@number . But my question is: is there any an alternative to do this in 1 query?

• discrepancy in google analytics pageview totals when tracking subdomains

  We are using the old urchin.js and are tracking 2 subdomains under the same profile. We have a “track subdomains” advanced filter defined (as per http://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55524) as well as 2 segments for presenting data in the reports: hostname matches exactly subdomain1.domain-name.com and hostname matches exactly subdomain2.domain-name.com When I apply these segments to our Top Content Overview report, the All Visits total for PageViews does not correspond to the # of visits reported for each subdomain. For example: All Visits = 53 subdomain1 = 24 subdomain2 = 32 Is there any reason as to why we would be seeing this discrepancy in numbers?

• Did anybody use the constream (constrea.h) lib?

  Two years ago, I used the conio.h (actually conio2.h for Dev-C++) to create a console form interface. Now I want to make the same thing, but C++ std lib does not provide the needed functions and I don't want to use the old C conio lib. I found some websites which highlights the constream lib, but I have no idea to use it on VS! I tried just copying the header file into my project, but VS show several erros. • AS3: Element stays on stage after manipulating the index(depth)

  Here is the problem I have: after I change the index of one movieclip using this code oldIndex=getChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target)); setChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target), numChildren - 1); when I give the object its old index setChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target), oldIndex); and go to another frame of the movie, this element I have changed the index of stays on top of all elements on the new frame. My question is am I doing something wrong and if not, what can I do so that this element stays only in the frame it is placed.

• Cannot access data from hbase with amazone ec2

  I have a single node hadoop machine in which hbase is running in the amazone ec2 instance. Due to some reason the server got restarted. So i need to start hadoop and hbase again. Then its working fine, but the old data in the hbase cannot be accessed through the web-servies. While i use the shell command its working fine, i am getting the data. So i created the scenario on my local server machine, but its working fine. The version details are as follows. hadoop-0.20.2 hbase-0.90.5 apache-tomcat-7.0.30 in Amazon ec2 medium instance And i use restful web-services with Orm-hbase to access data.

• How to change a remote repository URI using Git?

  I have a repo (origin) on an USB key that I cloned on my hardrive (local). I moved "origin" to a NAS and I successfully tested cloning it from here. I would like to know if I can change the uri of "origin" in the settings of "local" so it now pull from the NAS, and not from the USB key. For now, I can see two solutions : - pushing everything to the usb-orign, and copy it to the NAS again (implies a lot of work due to new commits to nas-origin); - adding a new remote to "local" and delete the old one (i fear I'll break my historic).

• JQUERY AJAX works on linux, but not on windows box

  I have a strange issue where the code works fine locally and on a linux server but not on a windows server... Works fine on: bijoudancewear.co.uk/mapper/ Doesn't work on: faringdongolfcourse.co.uk/mapper/ After clicking on map... If you click on 'Department Stores, fashion & Accessories' (2nd from bottom) it loads the appropriate data on the linux box but not on Windows. Also works fine locally on my mac, there is no ASP or PHP, this is good old fashioned html and jquery. Any pointers would be great.

• When open-sourcing a live Rails app, is it dangerous to leave the session key secret in source contr

  I've got a Rails app that's been running live for some time, and I'm planning to open source it in the near future. I'm wondering how dangerous it is to leave the session key store secret in source control while the app is live. If it's dangerous, how do people usually handle this problem? I'd guess that it's easiest to just move the string to a text file that's ignored by the SCM, and read it in later. Just for clarity, I'm talking about this: # Your secret key for verifying cookie session data integrity. # If you change this key, all old sessions will become invalid! # Make sure the secret is at least 30 characters and all random, # no regular words or you'll be exposed to dictionary attacks. ActionController::Base.session = { :key => '_application_session', :secret => '(long, unique string)' } And while we're on the subject, is there anything else in a default Rails app that should be protected when open sourcing a live app?

• Do you leave historical code commented out in classes that you update?

  When you need to obsolete a section of code (say either the business rules changed, or the old system has been reworked to use a new framework or something) do you delete it from the file or do you comment it out and then put in the new functionality? If you comment it out, do you leave a note stating why it was removed and what it was originally intended to do? I ask mainly because I've done a lot of contract work for different places over the years and sometimes it's like excavating a tomb to find the actual code that is still being used. Why comment it out and leave it in the file if source control has a record of what used to be there? If you comment out a method do you also comment out/delete any methods that were exclusively used by that method? What do you think the best practices for this should be?

• Is there a faster way to remove un-referenced controls from a Form's designer file?

  I started looking into the designer file of one of my Forms and noticed that a lot of the old controls I thought I had deleted are still being instantiated but are not actually used on the form. Is there any easy way to clean up these controls from the designer file that are not being used? Right now I've printed out a list of all the private fields at the bottom of the designer file that reference the controls of the form. I'm going down the list one by one trying to determine if the control is actually used or not, and then deleting those that I find are not on the form. The document outline is useful for figuring out what controls are on the form, but this is still a rather tedious process. Does anyone have a better way?

I have the three following tables: users (id, name) products (id, name) owners (userid, productid, date) One product can be sold by user A to user B and then back to A. Now, I want the list of all products currently owned by every single user with the date of transaction. Currently, my query is this one, but I'm stuck with old data (first association of one product to one user, and not the newest one): SELECT users.name, products.name, date FROM products JOIN owners ON products.id = owners.id JOIN users ON owners.id = user.id GROUP BY product.id Do you have some hints?   What do the clever programmers here do to keep track of handy programming tricks and useful information they pick up over their many years of experience? Things like useful compiler arguments, IDE short-cuts, clever code snippets, etc. I sometimes find myself frustrated when looking up something that I used to know a year or two ago. My IE favourites probably represent a good chunk of the Internet in the late 1990s, so clearly that isn't effective (at least for me). Or am I just getting old? So.. what do you do?

• OpenGL performance on rendering "virtual gallery" (textures)

  I have a considerable (120-240) amount of 640x480 images that will be displayed as textured flat surfaces (4 vertex polygons) in a 3D environment. About 30-50% of them will be visible in a given frame. It is possible for them to crossover. Nothing else will be present in the environment. The question is - will the modern and/or few-years-old (lets say Radeon 9550) GPU cope with that, and what frame rate can I expect? I aim for 20FPS, but 30-40 would be nice. Would changing the resolution to 320x240 make it more probable to happen? I do not have any previous experience with performance issues of 3D graphics on modern GPUs, and unfortunately I must make a design choice. I don't want to waste time on doing something that couldn't have worked :-)

I search for installation of SQL Server 2000 , but its not working over there. So what i did, i send the MDF file of database with exe application and make connection string and its also working. Now i change something in DB , and trying to update .mdf file but its not reflecting the new one mdf its getting the old one. i am Stuck...... am i did any wrong ? because its difficult for me to fix. OR i want to know what is the efficient way of use of SQL Server 2000 database on window7 or any else solution is there? Please help me...

  So I'm going through old code (2.0) and I came across this: object isReviewingValue = ViewState["IsReviewing"]; if (isReviewingValue is bool) { return (bool)isReviewingValue; } My first thought was to us the "as" keyword to avoid the unneeded (bool)isReviewingValue; But "as" only works with non value types. No problem, I just went ahead and did this: bool? isReviewingValue= ViewState["IsReviewing"] as bool?; if (isReviewingValue.HasValue) { return isReviewingValue.Value; } Question is: Besides looking a bit more readable, is this in fact better?

• Object directing to a property when accessed as an iterable

  I'm trying to figure out if there's an elegant and concise way to have a class accessing one of its own properties when "used" as a dictionary, basically redirecting all the methods that'd be implemented in an ordered dictionary to one of its properties. Currently I'm inheriting from IterableUserDict and explicitly setting its data to another property, and it seems to be working, but I know that UserDict is considered sort of old, and I'm concerned I might be overlooking something. What I have: class ConnectionInterface(IterableUserDict): def __init__(self, hostObject): self._hostObject= hostObject self.ports= odict.OrderedDict() self.inputPorts= odict.OrderedDict() self.outputPorts= odict.OrderedDict() self.data= self.ports This way I expect the object to behave and respond (and be used) the way I mean it to, except I want to get a freebie ordered dictionary behaviour on its property "ports" when it's iterated, items are gotten by key, something is looked up ala if this in myObject, and so on. Any advice welcome, the above seems to be working fine, but I have an odd itch that I might be missing something. Thanks in advance.

This is my command grep --include=*.rb -rnw . -e "pattern" Zsh tells me that zsh: no matches found: --include=*.rb It seems that grep doesn't support --include option. When I type grep --help, it returns usage: grep [-abcDEFGHhIiJLlmnOoPqRSsUVvwxZ] [-A num] [-B num] [-C[num]] [-e pattern] [-f file] [--binary-files=value] [--color=when] [--context[=num]] [--directories=action] [--label] [--line-buffered] [--null] [pattern] [file ...] no --include here. Is my grep version too old? Or is there something wrong with my command?

  How can I include the upper bound in range() function? I can't add by 1 because my for-loop looks like: for x in range(1,math.floor(math.sqrt(x))): y = math.sqrt(n - x * x) But as I understand it will actually be 1 < x < M where I need 1 < x <= M Adding 1 will completely change the result. I am trying to rewrite my old program from C# to Python. That's how it looked in C#: for (int x = 1; x <= Math.Floor(Math.Sqrt(n)); x++) double y = Math.Sqrt(n - x * x);
