  I'm currently stuck on this problem. I've hooked into the method_missing function in a class I've made. When a function is called that doesn't exist, I want to call another function I know exists, passing the args array as all of the parameters to the second function. Does anyone know a way to do this?   Hi, I have tree tables books bookmarks users where there is a n to m relation from books to users trough bookmarks. Im looking for a query, where I get all the books of a certain user including the bookmarks. If no bookmarks are there, there should be a null included... my sql statement looks like: SELECT * FROM `books` LEFT OUTER JOIN `bookmarks ` ON bookmarks.book_id = books.id AND bookmarks.user_id = ? In rails I only know the :include statement, but how can I add the second bookmarks.user_id = ? statement in the ON section of this query? if I put it in the :conditions part, no null results would get returned!   console.log takes a string and replaces tokens with values, for example: console.log("My name is %s, and I like %", 'Dave', 'Javascript') would print: My name is Dave, and I like Javascript I'd like to wrap this inside a method like so: function log(msg, values) { if(config.log == true){ console.log(msg, values); } } The 'values' arg might be a single value or several optional args. How can I accomplish this? If I call it like so: log("My name is %s, and I like %s", "Dave", "Javascript"); I get this (it doesn't recognize "Javascript" as a 3rd argument): My name is Dave, and I like %s If I call this: log("My name is %s, and I like %s", ["Dave", "Javascript"]); then it treats the second arg as an array (it doesn't expand to multiple args). What trick am I missing to get it to expand the optional args?

  I am working on a project that involves gps data collection from many users (say 1000) every second (while they move). I am planning on using a dedicated database instance on EC2 with the mysql persistent block storage and run a ruby on rails application with nginx frontend. I haven't worked on such data collection application before. Am I missing something here? I will have a another instance which will act as application server and use the data from the same EBS. If anybody has dealt with such a system before, Any advise would be much appreciated?

• Polymorphism in SQL database tables?

  I currently have multiple tables in my database which consist of the same 'basic fields' like: name character varying(100), description text, url character varying(255) But I have multiple specializations of that basic table, which is for example that tv_series has the fields season, episode, airing, while the movies table has release_date, budget etc. Now at first this is not a problem, but I want to create a second table, called linkgroups with a Foreign Key to these specialized tables. That means I would somehow have to normalize it within itself. One way of solving this I have heard of is to normalize it with a key-value-pair-table, but I do not like that idea since it is kind of a 'database-within-a-database' scheme, I do not have a way to require certain keys/fields nor require a special type, and it would be a huge pain to fetch and order the data later. So I am looking for a way now to 'share' a Primary Key between multiple tables or even better: a way to normalize it by having a general table and multiple specialized tables.

  Hi, we have a system where we collect data every second on user activity on multiple web sites. we dump that data into a database X (say MS SQL Server). we now need to fetch data from this single table from daatbase X and insert into database Y (say mySql). we want to fetch time based data from database X through multiple threads so that we fetch as fast as we can. Once fetched and stored in database Y, we will delete data from database X. Are there any best practices on this sort of design? any specific things to take care on table design like sharing or something? • rdlc - phantom page break, what to check?

  I have a RDLC report which has some controls on the first page, which are inside a rectangle and which display ok. Beneath the rectangle, i have a matrix, which spans more than one page both in width and in height. I want the matrix to start rendering on the second page. If I enable "insert break before" on the matrix, there is an extra blank page before the matrix(in print layout), which is my problem. If I reduce the amount of data, so the matrix does not span more than one page in width, there is no blank page, and all is well. I checked the Page and Body sizes, they are ok. Any tips? This has been driving me crazy all day, what can I check? Thx

  Hi guys, i'm adding and removing <li> elements with jQuery, that are shown horizontally with the following style: #my_ul { list-style: none; } #my_ul li { float: left; margin: 0px 15px; } For example, if i add four <li> to an <ul> and then i decide to remove the second one, after it has been removed the other two <li> elements on the right immediately move to the left. • Speed up compilation with mockito on Android

  I am currently developing an android app in eclipse using: One project for the app One project for the tests (Instrumentation and Pojo tests) In the test project, I am importing the mockito library for standard POJO testing. However, when I import the library, the compilation time skyrockets from 1 second to about 30 seconds in eclipse. The cause seems to be that the whole library is converted each time. So basically, each time a make a modification that I want to test, I have to wait 30 seconds. The only workarounds that I have found so far would be: Disable "Build Automatically" Create a project that includes only pojo tests and put mockito only there. Use another library that compiles faster (e.g. easymock) Any other suggestion?

• A cross between std::multimap and std::vector?

  I'm looking for a STL container that works like std::multimap, but has constant access time to random n-th element. I need this because I have such structure in memory that is std::multimap for many reasons, but items stored in it have to be presented to the user in a listbox. Since amount of data is huge, I'm using list box with virtual items (i.e. list control polls for value at line X). As a workaround I'm currently using additional std::vector to store "indexes" into std::map, and I fill it like this: std::vector<MMap::data_type&> vec; for (MMap::iterator it = mmap.begin(); it != mmap.end(); ++it) vec.push_back((*it).second); But this is not very elegant solution. Is there some such containter?

• changing Python code in the debugger

  Is there any debugger that allows Python code to be changed while debugging? In other words: run-time exception occurs, debugger stops, I change the code any way I like, and tell the program to continue. I am aware of the problems with this approach, such that references to functions would still point to the old definitions if I redefine the function on the fly, and so on. I am ok with that, since I just want to be able to make small fixes in very simple circumstances. On the other hand, I'm also interested in whether it's theoretically possible to allow changes to Python code without running into these problems: i.e., somehow update all the references to the objects that changed, etc. I'm nearly sure the answer to the second question is no, but if I'm wrong, I'd like to know. EDIT: If my goal (changing the code interactively when an exception occurred, and then continuing execution), is achievable without a debugger - that would be good as well. I don't need to use the debugger.

• SQL - query inside NOT IN takes longer than the complete query ??

  Hi every1, I'm using NOT IN inside my SQL query. For example: select columnA from table1 where columnA not in ( select columnB from table2) How is it possible that this part of the query select columnB from table2 takes 30sec to complete, but the whole query above takes 0.1sec to complete?? Shouldn't the complete query take 30sec + ? BTW, both queries return valid results. Thanks! Answers to Comments Is it because the second query hasn't actually completed but has only returned back the first 'x' rows (out of a very large table?) No, the query is completed after 30 seconds, not to many rows returned (eg. 50). • Projecting a targetting ring using direct3d

  I'm trying to draw a "targetting ring" on the ground below a "unit" in a hobby 3d game I'm working on. Basically I want to project a bright red patterned ring onto the ground terrain below the unit. The only approach I can think of is this - Draw the world once as normal Draw the world a second time but in my vertex shader I have the world x,y,z coordinates of the vertex and I can pass in the coordinates of the highlighted unit - so I can calculate what the u,v coordinates in my project texture should be at that point in the world for that vertex. I'd then use the pixel shader to pick pixels from the target ring texture and blend them into the previously drawn world. I believe that should be easy, and should work but it involves me drawing the whole visible world twice as it's hard to determine exactly which polygons the targetting ring might fall onto. It seems a big overhead to draw the whole world twice, once for the normal lit textured ground, and then again just to draw the targetting ring. Is there a better approach that I'm missing?

• Access 2007 VBA : Building a listbox with selection choices from another list box

  So there are 8 categories that may be associated to each order, but not necessarily all of them. So i was going to build a list box that allowed the user to double click each of the category they wish to associate when they have an "Order Detail" form opened up (unbound form that has hidden text boxes with all needed ID numbers). I want to have another empty text box right beside it that will allow me to append the selections (up to 8) so the user can see that they have been added. So one list box with the default choices, and when a choice is double clicked, it adds that choice to the second list box to see the tally so to speak.   I've seen objects defined in two different ways, which function similarly, but are, of course, fundamentally different. You can do it either like this: var myobject = {property: 'hello', act: function() { this.property += ' world'; }}; and like this: function myobject() { this.property = 'hello'; this.act = function() { this.property += 'world'; } } The second method could create objects like so var newobj = new myobject(); but you could do something similar using the first notation by making the object the return value of a function. The new keyword has the advantage of being able to pass parameters that can be used to initialize the properties of the object, but you could just as easily add an init function to the first kind of object. Just wondering if besides these two differences, if there was a fundamental difference that made one method definitely better than the other method.
