  • Mocking non-virtual methods in C++ without editing production code?

    Hello, I am a fairly new software developer currently working adding unit tests to an existing C++ project that started years ago. Due to a non-technical reason, I'm not allowed to modify any existing code. The base class of all my modules has a bunch of methods for Setting/Getting data and communicating with other modules. Since I just want to unit testing each individual module, I want to be able to use canned values for all my inter-module communication methods. I.e. for a method Ping() which checks if another module is active, I want to have it return true or false based on what kind of test I'm doing. I've been looking into Google Test and Google Mock, and it does support mocking non-virtual methods. However the approach described (http://code.google.com/p/googlemock/wiki/CookBook#Mocking_Nonvirtual_Methods) requires me to "templatize" the original methods to take in either real or mock objects. I can't go and templatize my methods in the base class due to the requirement mentioned earlier, so I need some other way of mocking these virtual methods Basically, the methods I want to mock are in some base class, the modules I want to unit test and create mocks of are derived classes of that base class. There are intermediate modules in between my base Module class and the modules that I want to test. I would appreciate any advise! Thanks, JW EDIT: A more concrete examples My base class is lets say rootModule, the module I want to test is leafModule. There is an intermediate module which inherits from rootModule, leafModule inherits from this intermediate module. In my leafModule, I want to test the doStuff() method, which calls the non virtual GetStatus(moduleName) defined in the rootModule class. I need to somehow make GetStatus() to return a chosen canned value. Mocking is new to me, so is using mock objects even the right approach?

  • ASA 5540 v8.4(3) vpn to ASA 5505 v8.2(5), tunnel up but I cant ping from 5505 to IP on other side

    I am having problems pinging from a 5505(remote) to IP 10.160.70.10 in the network behind the 5540(HQ side). 5505 inside IP: 10.56.0.1 Out: 71.43.109.226 5540 Inside: 10.1.0.8 out: 64.129.214.27 I Can ping from 5540 to 5505 inside 10.56.0.1. I also ran ASDM packet tracer in both directions, it is ok from 5540 to 5505, but drops the packet from 5505 to 5540. It gets through the ACL and dies at the NAT. Here is the 5505 config, I am sure it is something simple I am missing.   • Xcode Unit Testing - Accessing Resources from the application's bundle?

    I'm running into an issue and I wanted to confirm that I'm doing things the correct way. I can test simple things with my SenTestingKit tests, and that works okay. I've set up a Unit Test Bundle and set it as a dependency on the main application target. It successfully runs all tests whenever I press cmd+B. Here's where I'm running into issues. I have some XML files that I need to load from the resources folder as part of the application. Being a good unit tester, I want to write unit tests around this to make sure that they are loading properly. So I have some code that looks like this: NSString *filePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"foo" ofType:@"xml"]; This works when the application runs, but during a unit test, mainBundle points to the wrong bundle, so this line of code returns nil. So I changed it up to utilize a known class like this: NSString *filePath = [[NSBundle bundleForClass:[Config class]] pathForResource:@"foo" ofType:@"xml"]; This doesn't work either, because in order for the test to even compile code like this, it Config needs to be part of the Unit Test Target. If I add that, then the bundle for that class becomes the Unit Test bundle. (Ugh!) Am I approaching this the wrong way?

  • C++ iterator and const_iterator problem for own container class

    Hi there, I'm writing an own container class and have run into a problem I can't get my head around. Here's the bare-bone sample that shows the problem.   • Capistrano update causes C: to be placed in the current directory (cygwin)

    When I run cap deploy:update in a directory on my local machine (via cygwin), "C:" magically appears in the directory. Sure enough, I can cd to it and it's my windows C: drive. Now I'm afraid to delete it, but I definitely don't want it in this directory (a rails project under /home/username/blah/blah).   • Mongodb - how to deserialze when a property has an Interface return type

    I'm attempting to avoid introducing any dependencies between my Data layer and client code that makes use of this layer, but am running into some problems when attempting to do this with Mongo (using the MongoRepository) MongoRepository shows examples where you create Types that reflect your data structure, and inherit Entity where required. Eg. [CollectionName("track")] public class Track : Entity { public string name { get; set; } public string hash { get; set; } public Artist artist { get; set; } public List<Publish> published {get; set;} public List<Occurence> occurence {get; set;} } In order to make use of these in my client code, I'd like to replace the Mongo-specific types with Interfaces, e.g: [CollectionName("track")] public class Track : Entity, ITrackEntity { public string name { get; set; } public string hash { get; set; } public IArtistEntity artist { get; set; } public List<IPublishEntity> published {get; set;} public List<IOccurenceEntity> occurence {get; set;} } However, the Mongo driver doesn't know how to treat these interfaces, and I understandably get the following error: An error occurred while deserializing the artist property of class sf.data.mongodb.entities.Track: No serializer found for type sf.data.IArtistEntity. --- MongoDB.Bson.BsonSerializationException: No serializer found for type sf.data.IArtistEntity. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I should approach this?

    I am using Automapper for mapping my domain model and DTO. When I map Mapper.Map<SiteDTO, SiteEntity> it works fine. But when I use collections of the same entities, it doesn't map. Mapper.Map<Collection<SiteEntity>, Collection<SiteDTO>>(siteEntityCollection); AS per Automapper Wiki, it says the lists implementing ICollection would be mapped, I am using Collection that implements ICollection, but automapper doesn't map it.     I'm trying to cast an IEnumerable of an inherited type to IEnumerable of base class. Have tried following: var test = resultFromDb.Cast<BookedResource>(); return test.ToList(); But getting error: You cannot convert these types. Linq to Entities only supports conversion primitive EDM-types. In database i have a history table for old BookedResource and it can happen that the user want to look at these and to get the old data from the database entity framework uses classes with the same name as the tables to receive data from db. So i receive the data from table HistoryBookedResource in HistoryBookedResource class. Because entity framework generate the partial classes with the properties i dont know if i can make them virtual and override. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Say I'm trying to test a simple Set class public IntSet : IEnumerable<int> { Add(int i) {...} //IEnumerable implementation... } And suppose I'm trying to test that no duplicate values can exist in the set. Granted, testing for expected conditions generically covers more cases - but it becomes very similar to implementing the logic again (which is both tedious and useless - you can't use the same code to check itself!). Basically I'm asking whether my tests should look like "insert 1, 2, 3 then check something about 3" or "insert 1, 2, 3 and check for something in general" EDIT - To help me understand, please state in your answer if you prefer OPTION 1 or OPTION 2 (or neither, or that it depends on the case, etc )

I've gone over my code a few times and can't see that i've missed any of the for loop arguments.

    I am trying to json_encode an array, which is what returns from a Zend_DB query. var_dump gives: (Manually adding 0 member does not change the picture). array(3) { [1]=> array(3) { ["comment_id"]=> string(1) "1" ["erasable"]=> string(1) "1" ["comment"]=> string(6) "test 1" } [2]=> array(3) { ["comment_id"]=> string(1) "2" ["erasable"]=> string(1) "1" ["comment"]=> string(6) "test 1" } [3]=> array(3) { ["comment_id"]=> string(1) "3" ["erasable"]=> string(1) "1" ["comment"]=> string(6) "jhghjg" } } The encoded string looks: {"1":{"comment_id":"1","erasable":"1","comment":"test 1"}, "2":{"comment_id":"2","erasable":"1","comment":"test 1"}, "3":{"comment_id":"3","erasable":"1","comment":"jhghjg"}} While I need it as: [{"comment_id":"1","erasable":"1","comment":"test 1"}, {"comment_id":"2","erasable":"1","comment":"test 1"}, {"comment_id":"3","erasable":"1","comment":"jhghjg"}] As the php.ini/json__encode documentation says it should.     I have 2 gradle projects: an Android app and a RoboSpock test. My build.gradle for the Android app has . . . dependencies { compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: '*.jar') compile ('com.actionbarsherlock:actionbarsherlock:4.4.0@aar') { exclude module: 'support-v4' } } . . . and builds correctly by itself, e.g assembleRelease works. I'm stuck getting the test to work. I gets lots of errors such as: package com.google.zxing does not exist Those seem to indicate that the .jar files aren't being picked up. A Post can have many Tags and a Tag can be in many Posts. I'm thinking that I'll have a textbox where I can select multiple tags for that post (this part is already done), in my controller, I will check to see if the tag is already exists or not, if not, then I will insert the new tag. But I'm not even sure based on the models that I've created for EF, will they create a PostsTags table, or they are creating just a Tags and a Posts table and links between the two? How would I insert the new Post and set the tags to that post? Is it just newPost.Tags = Tags (where Tags are the one that got selected, do I even need to check to see if they already exists?), and then something like _post.Add(newPost);? Thanks.

    I am using PHP version 5.4.4, and a MySQL database using InnoDB. I had been using PDO for awhile without utilizing transactions, and everything was working flawlessly. Then, I decided to try to implement transactions, and I keep getting Internal Server Error 500. I have a number of tests that I'm executing manually and which I'm currently documenting using merely a plain text file. "Tools" can be interpreted rather loosely here, anything that's a step up from the plain text file would be useful: a template for some suitable application, supporting AppleScript scripts, a web-based system, a full-blown application ... Some things that would be great to have better support for (see also the example below): Checking off each step while you're manually executing the test. Showing the next step(s) in a small window that is always kept in front of all other windows. Automatically updating the 'last tested' and 'using svn revision' info. Keeping a record of all previous testing rounds (not just the last one). ... Any suggestions for any such "tools" that can be used on a Mac? An example (faked) entry from the plain text file to give you a better idea of what I'm looking for: - Check that exported web pages render properly in Safari. Last tested: 2010-03-24 Using SVN revision: 1000 Steps: - Open a new document. - Add some items to the document. - Export the document to a web page "Test.html" in a new folder "Export Test" on the Desktop. - Open the web page in Safari, script: tell application "Finder" open file "Test.html" of folder "Export Test" of desktop end tell Expected results: - The web page should appear properly with all items shown. Clean up steps: - Remove the folder "Export Test" from the Desktop. ( Note: for those unaware, the snippet of AppleScript in the above can be executed from most text editing applications through the Services menu by selecting the snippet and using: the application menu Services Script Editor Run as AppleScript. This is quite useful to automate some steps for tests that are difficult to automate as a whole. )

  • Zend Framework - How do make a hierarchy without it being a module?

    Here is my specific issue. I want to make an api level which then under that you can select which method you will use. For example: test.com/api/rest test.com/api/xmlprc Currently I have api mapping to a module directory. I then setup a route to make it a rest route. test.com/api is a rest route, but I would rather have it be test.com/api/rest. This would allow me later to add others. In Bootstrap.php: $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $router = $front->getRouter(); $route = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( 'api/:module/:controller/:id/*', array('module' =>'default') ); $router-addRoute('api', $route); $restRoute = new Zend_Rest_Route($front, array(), array( 'rest' )); $router-addRoute('rest', $restRoute); return $router; In application.ini: resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" I know it will involve routes, but sometimes I find the Zend Framework documentation to be a little hard to follow. When I go to test.com/rest/controller/ it works how it should, but if I go to test.com/api/rest/ it tells me that my module is api and controller is rest.
