• ViewController in programming

  ViewController is a term for classes that handle views in a framework. This is especially used in MVC frameworks. I go through various projects, written by various programmers, who implement MVC in different ways. Especially, i get confused, about the relation between the MainView ( parent view ) and some CustomView ( widget etc) in the framework. I personally pass reference of the MainView into the ViewController to be instantiated. All the subviews of ViewController are added to that reference of MainView. Additionally, ViewController itself is added as a child of MainView. Like this : Want to know, if this is the right way to relate each other ?

• grub rescue error, [on hold]

  I was trying to install a Linux OS to an partition alongside Windows 8 and Ubuntu, but I got confused and I just canceled the installation. Then I booted into Windows 8 and deleted the 20GB partition that I created. When I restarted the computer I got stuck at the following error message: error: no such partition grub rescue> I don't know what to do. I do not want to lose any data. Please help! Sorry for not selecting any answers, I overrited Linux with Windows XP and then repaired the Master Boot Record for Windows 8 and deleted XP, I'm now staying at Windows 8.

• Multiple domains

  I got 6 domains : company.ca and company.com (because both where free, but we are a canadian company but can do business with the rest of the world). Then, we sell sportwear because of the company name is totally unknown to the world. Our product is we have bought product specific domain : chandails.ca and t-shirt.ca as well as shorts.ca and shorts.com. So those 6 domains are mine. Now what is the best way to do? Now all are 301 redirect to the main company name (.com) or make micro-site, super simple one page optimized for just shirt and one for shorts, then tell people to know more, go to the main site. Because now, I cannot really find the benefit of the search word in domain name edge if never somebody see something in that domain... I got confused and don't find strait answer to this question.

  A simple question about rsnapshot. In order to perform daily backups I'm going to add lines to cron in my Ubuntu. Then, why do I have also these lines in the rsnapshot.conf ? ######################################### # BACKUP INTERVALS # # Must be unique and in ascending order # # i.e. hourly, daily, weekly, etc. # ######################################### interval hourly 6 interval daily 7 interval weekly 4 #interval monthly 3 If I use cron, should I disable them ? thanks ps. I've just realized that in the crontab I still have "hourly" and "daily". Should I then uncomment only the one I use in the crontab ? • Problems installing Ubuntu on unallocated space

  I've been trying to install Ubuntu on some unallocated space, but I'm getting confused with the manual partition setup. I didn't want to try the other options for it suggested that everything on my drive would be erased (but I might be wrong) I have an old(ish) laptop with a 60GB hard-drive. Theres a Windows 7 partition of 30GB, followed by 20GB of unallocated space, then HP's Windows recovery partition of under 10GB. Do I need to format the empty space in windows first? What's the recommended method in this case?

  I'm using the following tool to analyse how 'optimal' a site that I'm working on is for search engines: http://tools.seobook.com/general/spider-test/ I enter the URL for the site - http://ftmsuat.moneymate.com - into the search bar, and it returns a breakdown of the contents of the page. I'm a little confused by what I see though. According to the results, the page doesn't have a title, description or keywords. But if you check the source of the page, those elements are definitely there. So I'm wondering now, which is wrong? seobook.com or my page?

Now is the time now to branch things off as discussed in the article; http://drilian.com/2009/02/25/lightning-bolts/ Again however i am confused as to the meaning of the following pseudo code; splitEnd = Rotate(direction, randomSmallAngle)*lengthScale + midPoint; I'm unsure how to actually rotate this correctly. In all honesty i'm abit unsure what to-do completely at this part, "splitEnd" will be a Vector3, so whatever happens in the rotate function must then return some form of directional rotation which is then * by a scale to create length and then added to the midPoint. I'm not sure. If someone could explain what i'm meant to be doing in this part that would be really grateful.

  Is it possible to transfer Google Authorship from one account to another? Scenario: I have user A who is a legitimate Google Author in my WordPress site. When I search the 'keyword' in Google, his name and photo will show up in the search result. One day A left the company, so we don't want to use his name again as an author, and transfer it to another person which is B. Technically speaking, I can just alter the display name and Google+ Profile URL of A to B. And then I probably can notify Google of the changes happening. But what will happen then? Will Google get confused and think that I'm doing scam? Is doing this action even correct in the first place?

When I just return however, it returns CDC and works, however, exiting the function as return is meant to do. I am wondering how I can improve my code here to (1) make it work, (2) why my logic was faulty. For example, I understand that it generates say [DC], but I am confused as to how to go around that. perhaps index the value returned?

• Solving programming problems or contributing code?

  What are the best skills to develop for a college graduate?? Should one spend hours/days trying to solve problems on codechef or topcoder or contribute code to open source organizations? My personal experience says solving problems teaches you how to make optimal code and learn new programming techniques (which someone else has researched and made available) to solve problems, whereas contributing to open source teaches you how to organize code (so others can work on it), use coding conventions and make "real" use of what you have learnt so far, blah blah!! Also another thing to note is that many companies are hiring today based on one's problem solving skills (Is this something I should worry about?) P.S. I have done little of online problem solving and little of code contribution (via GSoC), but left confused what I should continue doing (as doing both simultaneously isn't easy).

• I'm trying to install postgresql on 12.04, and it's just not working

  I've got a new installation and I'm trying to get Postgresql working. The database was installed and I started a restoration from a dump on another machine, but that ran into problems because I had forgotten to install the "contrib" package. I used "pg_dropcluster" to drop the old cluster so I could start from scratch, and that's when things went weird. The first manifestation of this was that /etc/postgresql was just empty. I uninstalled the postgresql package and reinstalled, several times, to no avail. Is there something I can do to figure out why apt is confused here? I've done this many times on many systems and never seen anything like this happen.

• Ubuntu 12.04 lts cannot build a wireless connection

  Hi i just got a new notebook and it came with ubuntu 12.04 lts operation system. But it can't make a wireless connection. I plugged in my Ethernet cable and i can reach the Internet with it but I need wireless connection so much. This is the first time I'm using ubuntu so i'm really confused. I can see wireless networks (including mine) but i cannot use them. It seems like it's establishing a connection but soon it gives up. Please help, I don't have much time for this and I do not have any idea about operation systems.

• Nvidia Driver versions?

  I've looked all over and can't find any reason as to why or how Nvidia names their drivers. for example they have a 330.xxx/340.xxx series that are current but also a 300.xxx and i've found that they aren't always release in order by number. Here's an example on there site with version and release date 331.38 - January 13 334.16 - Feb 7 331.49 - Feb 18 I'm really confused about what driver to actually go with, a few different series versions seem to work adequately and I just want to have an understanding of it and what the best option to work from would be.   I am in a big dilemma here. I have a League, Team and Player entities. I have created a repo for the league only as a Team cannot exists without a League. At first I had bounded the players only with the team but then I realised I would have a problem with free agents so I also bounded the players to the league. Then I was wondering if a player could exists without a League or a Team and I am totally confused to that question. So would you make a player repository or include them in the league repo? Thanks

  I've been reading about collision detection and I saw that the first part was a coarse detection which generates possible contacts using bounding box hierarchies. I understand the concept of splitting up your objects in groups, to speed up the detection phase, but I'm a little confused on how do you actually build the hierachy, more so on what criteria is used to group them together. Do I iterate through all the objects in the scene, and check the distance between them to see where they should be inserted in the tree? Do you know some resources that may shed some light on this topic for me?

To say the least, I'm thoroughly confused as what are the best practices for managing internal and external links. Here is a list of some of my questions: Which internal links should be set to "nofollow"? Which external links should be set to "nofollow"? To what degree does actively managing links contribute to your PR? Should you use "nofollow" blindly on all links in comments? If a link to an external site is broken (404 or whatever), should you "nofollow" that link? What about "noindex"? As you can see, lots of questions. • So with HTML5 what exactly.....is "supposed" to become phased out.

  So I know HTML5 is the "replacement" for Flash...however it's obviously not mainstream just yet......but what else is it supposed to replace. I ask this because web-dev has always been a secret kinda side-passion of mine (even though I a firmware programmer mostly doing C/Java stuff). And anyway I want to pursue a side thing at doing web design (I know basic XHTML/CSS + some CSS3) But what exactly is I guess...."pointless" to study? JavaScript I assume will always be a huge part of web design? (HTML5 isn't replacing that is it?) What about Ajax and CSS itself?) And then there's Flash....not sure if thats really worth putting effort into? Also there's Adobe Flex/Air......I'm a bit confused if you can't tell.

  Recently I've been working on projects that heavily use threading. I think that I'm OK at designing them; use stateless design as much as possible, lock access to all resources that more than one thread needs, etc. My experience in functional programming has helped that immensely. • Nautilus uses different permissions for mounted drives

  I've written two bash scripts to give read-only or read/write access to my NTFS partition: read-only access: sudo umount /media/Data_Drive/ sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o ro,user,auto,nls=utf8,umask=0000,uid=1000 /dev/sda2 /media/Data_Drive read/write access: sudo umount /media/Data_Drive/ sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o rw,user,auto,nls=utf8,umask=0000,uid=1000 /dev/sda2 /media/Data_Drive It works perfectly if I only use terminal to work with the files. It also works with Nautilus in read-only mode but not in the read/write mode. In fact, Nautilus gives me an error when I try to copy a file to Data_Drive saying "The destination is read-only". More funny, when I look at the permissions (by right-clicking on Data_Drive and then properties-permissions) I have all the required permissions to write a file in Data_Drive! I am so confused why Nautilus behaves strangely. I appreciate if anybody could solve the mystery!
